Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.Â
Â
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
Â
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional):Â WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
Â
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
 Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.Â
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.Â
1. Maureen
2. Lexington, KY
3. There will be 8 women studying in a small group in my home.
4. My ministry takes me to Africa several times a year and this travel schedule makes it hard to be in a long study. My elderly mother is moving in with us and necessitating me to be stateside for some time. I need the accountability and fellowship of godly women as we study God’s precious Word.
5. My Quirk is that I travel so much that I keep my clothes sorted in my cupboard according to county I am going to in Africa. (& toiletries always ready to go)
1. Kristen smith
2. Dafter, MI
3. Small group
4. I’m going thru a dry spell in my life and I need to reconnect with the Lord. Iv been so busy with a toddler and now we have another baby on the way. Iv sort of put God on the back burner. He needs to be #1 on my priority list.
5. I have to have my kitchen completely cleaned before I go to bed and my coffee pot has to be set and ready for the morning.
1. Debbie
2. Harrogate, Tennessee
3. Solo
4. I have been searching for a Bible study, thirsting for The Lord’s word!
5. My bathroom towels have to be folded a certain way! I ask my children this question and this is what they said my quirk was….lol, they know me so well!!
McDonough, GA
SOLO
Love all of Beth Moore Bible studies and this one just come out. Wanted to start a new one since school is out.
Lamps beside the bed must be turned on after I wake up and you cannot turn them off until I am ready to go to sleep. All other lamps in the house can not be turned off, EVER:)
Roanoke, VA
I love every Beth Moore study I take, and I cannot wait to see what I need to learn from Thessalonians!

4. I crave bible study!
5. I love words especially unique words and words in other languages.
1. Victoria
2. Richmond, VA
3. with one friend
4. sounds like a great study
5. I talk to my dog like she’s a person. Is that TOO quirky? I’m pretty sure she understands most of what I say!
Deborah from Gibsonville, NC. This will be my third year to participate in Siesta Summer bible study. It is a perfect format. I have been going solo, but this summer will be in a small group. I collect “bee’s”. Not the live ones-but replicas.
Lisa H
Bloomington, Indiana
Small group of 5-6 of my girlfriends meeting at my home on Monday evenings.
Similar small group did Gideon last summer & most were excited to do another summer study this summer. We love the every other week format. And we love diving into God’s Word together learning from Beth’s insights and from one another as we share in our group. Small group studies are one of my preferred ways to be obedient.
One quirky thing is I can still toss a triple & quad on a rifle(marching band colorguard)even after 20 years since I last marched.

4. To dig deeper into the Word

3. Solo
4. I’ve not been involved in a bible study in a number of years. I feel like I’m always so lost in Sunday School because I haven’t studied the Bible enough. I’m hoping this bible study makes me stronger in my walk with Christ and begins an interest in studying the Bible more.
5. BONUS question: I don’t like lots of little things (i.e. goosebumps).
1. Con Schafman
2. Clarkston, Washington
3. Small Group (a buddy and myself)
4. Why? I adore any journey with the intent to discover more about Jesus, through His Word and in fellowship. To share a moment with a friend applauding God’s glory in and through us centered on His truth is a DELIGHT and a REFRESHING to my soul.
5. I frequently smell my food (and beverage) before that first taste. It’s totally weird. Another quirk (this one’s about Bible Study): If I am somewhere not at home and either journaling or studying with a workbook, I usually right down the outside-of-home-location in the margin and if I am eating or drinking something, I make a note of that in the margin as well. And sometimes I draw a picture of what the weather is or of the food or drink I am enjoying. I figure that history is in the making and I wanna journal about it. Even the tedious.

2. Ridgeland, MS (near Jackson)
3. Solo…. Although I am challenging all of my Facebook friends to join me in the word this summer!
4. I simply HUNGER for the word, and DESIRE His constant prescence! And from that He has opened doors and gifts I could never imagine. I have through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, began to write myself. It began with painting, poetry and devotions, now some of my devotions I have been asked to develop into a study for the youth at my church. I am also honored to be a co-teacher of my Sunday school class! But with all this, I feel it is of the utmost importance for ANY TEACHER of any kind to ALWAYS remain a student!!
One of a long list of quirks!! Is that I always have a huge bag/backpack with me at all times! At least 3-4 Bibles all different translations. Binders full of paper, and drives of pens and pencils. And most times a small notebook computer! When I recieve a word from The Lord I want to be ready!

I’m Sheree Poole from Columbia, SC. I am one of the leaders at the Women’s Bible CafĂ© online, and we are doing this study as a group. Our small group meets in a private Facebook chat room.
I have to be in Bible study at all times. I never want to take a day off being in the Word, and so that’s why I’m in Bible study. I absolutely love God’s Word, and I need a fresh word from Him everyday in all seasons.
My quirk? Okay, don’t laugh!! I love the smell of books. I have a Kindle, but I do not like to read books from my Kindle. I’d much rather hold a book in my hand because I love to use my highlighter and smell the most amazing aroma of a new book. Isn’t that crazy? I only read Christian books and Bible studies, but I have to hold that book in my hand.
I am really looking forward to this summer Bible study with Beth Moore and the Women’s Bible CafĂ©.

4. I was actually planning to begin this study on my own this week to prepare to facilitate it after my Sunday School class concludes the Sacred Secrets Study. I just happened to notice this Summer Bible Study Blog today while on Facebook. I am looking forward to gaining different perspectives of this portion of God’s Word through this forum. This will allow me to better facilitate the discussions in my Sunday School group when we begin this study in July.
This time last year, I had such a rush after attending the Beth Moore Conference in Duluth, GA. I felt God leading me to begin our first Beth Moore Study during the Sunday School hour at our church. We had a wonderful experience working through Jesus, The One and Only Study and likewise are gaining new insights in the Sacred Secrets Study. I anxiously await to see how God uses this study in my life.
