(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)
Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.
If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.
OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.
Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)
I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.
My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.
What’s your favorite something, Siestas??
My favorite song from joining the Choir at my Church is “Angel Carol” by James Ward. (It is a Christmas song but I can sing ALL year and every day, that’s how much I love it!).
My favorite person to talk to and laugh with(other than my man) is my sister Sharon. We solve all of pur problems together, laugh over everything, and have saved our husbands an extrarodinary amount of money they would otherwise have to pay for professional counseling sessions. My favorite ice cream is Trader Joe’s Ultra Chocolate. And my favorite feeling is God’s peace. There’s nothing like it.
My favorite television–Masterpiece Theatre and BBC series, “Lark Rise to Candleford”. My favorite feeling ever is the security and peace I feel when I crawl into bed and cuddle up next to my hubby. Oh, and I can’t leave out an ice cold Coke–in the can.
My favorite ice cream ever is Blue Bell peach ice cream. I haven’t had it since I moved to Nebraska in 1993! I haven’t been able to find it when I’ve visited Texas because it is seasonal.(
We have that in Tennessee, you should come for a visit. Ilove all Blue Bell ice cream too.
My favorite thing (right now) is waking up to find that we have a snow day and I don’t have to go to work! An unexpected surprise day off!
My favorite picture is of me sitting on my Mom’s lap when I was around 3 & 1/2. She died when I was 20, and I remember being little and sitting on her lap and the smell of the newspaper as she read it and smelling her coffee breath. Seeing that picture fill me with memories of her.
Next year I’ll be the age she was when she died. 49
My favorite thing is a sleepover with my three BESTEST friends!!! Nothing better than a Friday night!
Love it, Olivia… you are absolutely right! (This coming from a 30 year old who hasn’t had a sleepover in years… but has so many great memories of them!!!) God bless you, girl! =)
My favorite ice cream is Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla – tastes like Dairy Queen used to when I was 10 and would eat it in Kansas on vacation because they did not have it in Texas yet.
And for whoever wanted a mascara that doesn’t run – I have used CoverGirl professional super thick lash (red tube, I think it originally had another name) for years and you have to use cold cream or some sort of remover to get it off.
Mmm, so many choices. My favorite food is a chicken salad sandwich from a local restaurant. I’ve searched high and low and there is NO better chicken salad on this earth ๐ I have to eat it every time I come home!
I haven’t read all 553 comments to see if this one has already been mentioned – but my new addiction (which is the honest way for me to say “favorite thing ever”) is Shellac nail polish. Of course, to keep me humble, the only petite thing on my whole blessed body is my nail bed. (Makes you want to say “seriously, God?”) Anyway. They’re too small to have regular acrylics applied and my nail lady doesn’t do custom sculpted nails, so she puts Shellac polish on me instead. This stuff is a FINGERNAIL MIRACLE. It seriously never chips, never bubbles, never loses its shine…and best of all, it’s dry the minute the manicure is finished. She can say “have a good day,” and I can stick my hands straight into my purse for my keys. It has revolutionized my entire life. I have no idea how I lived before its invention. (Dramatic, but true.)
Is that not the best thing EVER??? Worth the little extra to have 10 PERFECT nails for 2-3 weeks with no chips! Love my Shellac french mani!
My favorite place is Rainbow River in Dunnellon, Florida.
My favorite kind of friends are the ones I’ve had since high school. (35+ years now!) They know my background stories and live life in such depth with me. Thank you, God, for longterm girlfriends! (Notice I said “girl” still!)
ONE of my favorite movies EVER isโฆPride and Prejudice (The Kiera Knightly one). Followed closely by Secondhand Lions. I cheated and gave two favorites!
Secondhand Lions is really cool isn’t it! and I hardly ever run into someone else who knows about that movie.
I love Secondhand Lions. And the Pride and Prejudice movie with Kiera was my first ever Jane Austen movie/book. Since then, I can’t seem to get enough of her writings/movies made from her books.
You must watch “Emma” with Gwyneth Patron if you haven’t already. One of my favorites!
You must watch “Emma” with Gwyneth Paltrow if you haven’t already. One of my favorites!
Goodness Ms Moore! How can a body possibly pick just one thing to share?!?!?! I was going to share my favorite place, then my favorite tea but then I decided to share something that might actually be useful. Spot Shot carpet cleaner. (Yes, I have a tremendous streak of the practical) This cleaner has got out everything I have tested it on, even red hot candy stains on my cream carpet! It is absolutely fab – give it a try!
My favorite thing ever is nursing my baby boy! Just love the closeness and the adorable chubby cheeks and the milk dripping down his chin! I cried when I had to stop nursing my daughter and I’m sure I will again!!
It’s the best thing ever. I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but here we are 8 months later and still going strong. I’m sure I’ll cry too when she is done!
And having someone brush my hair.
My favorite time of the day “Mornings”! Yes, I AM a morning person, quiet time, first cup of coffee and this time of year watching a glowing fire in the fireplace. I start my day with my Bible reading and quiet time with Him.
I’m with you, I love mornings.
My favorite thing is Covergirl remarkable waterproof mascara. It is waterproof(which a girl who sweats, and crys needs) and yet it is able to be wiped off with just a baby wipe if need be. A tough mascara that holds up , yet comes off easy.
My favorite worship leader is Travis Cottrell! Praising our Savior is never more fun than when lead by Travis. So many favorite songs couldn’t begin to share my favorite one.
My favorite musical artist is Natalie Grant.
a McDonald’s cheeseburger……….. ๐

My favorite kind of dog is a dachshund. So stubborn, self-centered, strong-willed. Just like me without Christ. ๐ You can’t tell because the picture is so small, but yes – that is my dachshund in my lap. His name is Link (get it? sausage link?)
We are “owned” by two of these at our house and I’d never quite pictured them that way…but you are sooo right!
My favorite kind of hot chocolate is the single serving recipe from the side of the Hershey’s Cocoa container. It’s sooooo chocolate-y and I make it with whole milk!! Yum!!!
One of my favorite things is Sally Hansen’s Maximum Growth for nails. Used for over twenty years now and it is just plain ole awesome!!
My favorite time of the day is the early morning hours(5:30am) I am up before my kids are awake:) I light a candle, hug my favorite coffee mug, and spend some quiet time with my Lord! Then my kids awaken…let the chaos begin (which I love!)
Sounds like the perfect start to a wonderful day!
My favorite dessert is turtle cheesecake. Chocolate, caramel, pecans and cheesecake….YUM!!!!
I have a few favorite things… Here are three of them.
1) My favorite place to grocery shop — Trader Joe’s hands down;
2) Getting to the church early on bible study Saturday… I get the coffee brewing and things setup and then have quiet time to spend praying and studying the Word before the gals arrive at 8:30; and
3) This one I have debated sharing, but here goes: My favorite actor – Stephen Moyer. Not only is he a very talented actor but he also seems to be a kind, compassionate and generous person. He is inspiring in how gives his time and gifts to others, including a family who has lost their father, mother and sister tragically in Venice, California where he now lives and being a patron to the community theatre in his hometown of Brentwood, England.
Blessings,
Mary Ann, Woodbury, MN
Favorite feeling EVER… holding my newborn babies with their head on my shoulder and feeling their sweet breath on my neck. It’s the most precious feeling ever.
My favorite food ever is Pizza with italian sausage, peppercinis, feta cheese and roasted red peppers from Red Elephant. I could just bury my face in it and not come up until it is all gone…..so good!!
I had a favorite lotion to use at night after a nice hot bath–Silk Pajamas by Healing Garden—it is so relaxing. Or I guess I should say that it ‘was’ relaxing but since I can no longer find it anywhere, it has caused me much stress! Why do they do this to us???
My favorite way to spend my birthday is ALONE (for at least 8 hours)… This never happens for me and my family is happy to allow me to stay at home, or the movies, or wherever I want to go in solitude. It is my one day of the year that is just about me…. I love to have us all together in the evening, but from 8-4, “it’s all about me” (for a while anyway)
My favorite memory is sitting alone in the hospital room feeding my newborn daughter. After all of the hustle and bustle of the birth, visitors, and so forth, I just loved the quiet moments that it was just the two of us, staring into each other’s eyes, getting to know one another. I didn’t take the time with my first daughter to savor moments like these, but this second time I’ve been much more intentional about remembering to cherish each tender moment, because they go so fast.
Love Mally’s mascara. The best! Now I need a good eye liner that will stay put in the inner rims. Suggestions? Thanks!
My favorite pancakes -Cracker Barrel’s with warm maple syrup.
My favorite vacation National Park is Yosemite. Used to camp twice a year and my grandparents ‘owned’ space 18 in Lower Pines each Fall and Spring. Of course, this was all so many years ago– great memories.
Favorite popcorn: Chicago-style, a mixture of cheese popcorn and caramel popcorn. It was love at first bite!
My favorite thing right now is Australia’s Darrell Lea Soft Eating Strawberry Liquorice you can purchase at Target. I love ’em! All Natural flavors!! 3 very satisfying pieces are 130 calories! Enjoy!!
My favorite thing to do with one of my sisters is perform “Sisters, Sisters” from the movie White Christmas. If we all hang out long enough, someone starts singing and then everyone else starts laughing…too fun!
My favorite chapstick is Burt’s Bees!
My favorite drink in the morning is fresh hot coffee with hazelnut creamer and a spoonful of white sugar. HEAVEN!

My favorite thing to do is at Christmas time, going Christmas tree hunting in the pastures with my boys and husband. Sometimes it’s snowing or like this year it was warm. This year we all (6 of us) loaded up on a 4 wheeler and road around until we found it!! (and the dog) :o)
My first thought was –my favorite thing is to be at home with all of my family –and then I realized my greatest desire is to one day be in my heavenly home surrounded by all my family. It will be glorious when we are all there together. I love this siesta family.
Best Bronzer!!! Too Faced Snow Bunny in the winter and Sun Bunny for summer. Makes any day better to have a little tan in a compact!
Hmmm…this is tough. I have A LOT of discontinued favorites. My newest greatest ever is my Sharpie Liquid Pencil. I order the office supplies at work. My local rep dropped one off as a “try it”. I use pencils for Bible Study. Some days there’s tons of erasing involved. So I took it home. LOVE IT!!!! It writes like a pen, super smooth. It erases well. Works great in a Bible, doesn’t smudge or bleed through pages. After about 24 hours, the graphite “sets” and becomes permanent. If Sharpie discontinues this pencil, I’m sunk. It also lasts quite awhile and is affordable to replace. ๐
my favorite time of day is snuggle time with our boys in their footie pj, with their freshly scrubbed little boy smells (um, the good kind of smells ๐ )
My favorite names for children are Mary Mitcham and James Henry. Both incorporate family names; I pray God blesses me with a husband and children so that I can carry on this piece of a family legacy.
My favorite vacation was a cruise in Alaska!
My favorite MASCARA ever is L’oreal Voluminous (with the curved brush) in black-brown, and I’m praying this is not the one that has been discontinued. I have used it for YEARS and no other brand or version compares!
My Autistic son belly laughing from the bottom of his soul at his big brother…I swear it’s God smiling at me in the midst of the craziness of Autism on our family and our baby.
