(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)
Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.
If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.
OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.
Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)
I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.
My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.
What’s your favorite something, Siestas??
Oh, man, I totally broke the rules! I told two favorites. How did I miss that? I’m really not a rule-breaker, I promise. I get a bad grade on blog commenting today!
Amy, I am guilt too. It must be one of our favorite things is to write and especially on this blog! lol
You are so like me! ๐
My favorite perfume is called Jessica McClintock
I have been wearing it for over 25 years- am still getting compliments on it every single time I wear it- never fails- strangers stop me to ask ” What is the name of that perfume you are wearing?” It makes me smile that they love it as much as I do.
Me, too!!! I love that perfume! I get compliments, too, every time I wear it…and they want to know what it is.
My favorite meal is from the Cheesecake Factory:
Passion Fruit Iced Tea
Santa Fe Salad
Craig’s Crazy Carrot Cake Cheescake
Sadly for my palate, but Luckily for my waistline, the closest Cheesecake Factory is 179 miles away. ๐
Oh my! Once I tried Craig’s Crazy Carrot Cake Cheesecake, there was no turning back! I refuse to try any other cheesecake there because I KNOW it won’t measure up! It’s divine!
Ooooh, I love The Cheesecake Factory!
Next time try this: Chicken Buffalo Blasts, Four Cheese Pasta, Banana Cream Cheesecake… the best meal ever!!
My favorite chocolates are Lindor Milk Chocolate Truffles. My sweetie got me some for Valentine’s Day and they were so yummy!
At Christmas, my boys (18&20) went all out to buy mom her favorite -Lindor and I ended up with over 300 little balls of yummy! Still enjoying that present ๐
My favorite drink EVER is a Route 44 Dr Pepper (at happy hour, cause everyone loves a bargain)!
My favorite Mocha ever is a custom drink from Starbucks. I get a Grande Mocha with only 2 pumps of Mocha, 1 pump Caramel, and 1 pump Raspberry. It’s like a truffle! So good!
you should try the new cocoa cappuccino when it debuts in a few weeks! creamy yummyness, and you could still have the caramel and raspberry. can you tell i’m a barista?!
I was a Barista for a while too! Now, just a boring desk job.
me too, holly. i loved being a barista, but it wasn’t paying the bills. now? boring desk job…
My favorite sewing machine is a Singer Featherweight. It truly does sing along as you sew!
I love love my featherweight too Carol. My mom gave my daughter one when she was 9 and she made a queen size log cabin quilt with it, wonderful machine for young sewers.
I knew there would be a sister quilter in this blog!
My favorite mexican food dish is Chuy’s Chick a Chick a Boom Boom….oh now my mouth is watering dog gone it!
Currently my favorite thing EVER is my Nook e-reader. Love it!
I’m addicted to mine, too!
My favorite place to relax is Sombrero Beach in Marathon, Florida!
My favorite time of day is first thing in the morning with my journal, Bible, and cat on my lap and strong coffee on the cedar chest in front of me. It’s tricky juggling all that on my lap sometimes, so it overflows onto the couch. Not the coffee, hopefully.
Bibby!!! My favorite gift EVER was when I unwrapped a present from my daughter-in-law. She had wrapped her “positive pregnancy test stick” in a box and it was 2 weeks before Christmas that year. She had suffered from infertility for 3 years and I instantly became Gran Jan. Oh I praise You Jesus!
My sis in law wrapped up her positive test to tell me I was going to be an aunt. It was great! I was in shock…I was 17, I had to figure out what I was holding!
that is just priceless.
PJ aka GJ Now that is a true CHRISTMAS GIFT!!!!!
And I was crying and squealing and laughing and my sweet husband wanted to know why Carrie had given us a “thermometer???” When I told him what it was he commenced to crying and hollering too! It was a night I will never forget. The day before was the day they found out their scheduled adoption had fallen through…and not only fallen through, it was a scam.
What a difference a day makes!
Jan
Dear siesta, my husband won a trip thru work to Turks & Caicos….I have paid extra to get my passport and now there are some snags…we leave Sunday @ 7am, PLEASE pray this works out. We have never done anything like this in 18yrs of marriage and I really don’t want to worry about this….but trust God to work it out.
MY FAVORITE BLOG EVER IS THIS ONE!!!!!
Praying now for you…
Just prayed.
Hope this helps. My husband was going on his first mission trip ever and he too applied for his passport(six weeks in advance and he paid extra)it was down to the wire it was delivered at 10 am the day before he was to leave. There is much to this story, and truly a GOD story. Also, You may want to call your congress representive. Praying for you.
I know this is late, but I’m praying for you. Let us know how this works out!
Texas girls.. you have to know this. I am from California, but I do enjoy some big hair.. My new favorite hair product?? Beyond the Zone Rock On Volumizing Powder. AMAZING. It is a silicone powder that you sprinkle on your roots on the crown of your head and then rub in. It makes it look like you teased that crown up good, but you didn’t. AND.. best part.. it can be re-activated throughout the day if the hair should fall slightly.
Get some. ๐
where do you get this? salon or supermarket?
searched online and found out this is a sally beauty supply product! yay–i can get this tomorrow!
my stylist just turned me onto this stuff too…is it not the best! I have never been able to get my baby fine hair to hold any kind of volume even if I teased it till it sobbed!!! I love this stuff!!!
My favorite devotional book ever is ‘Jesus Calling’. Every day is SO meaningful and I feel like Jesus has spoken the words to me personally each day.
Yes!!! God’s words to me through that devotional have been so meaningful and effective in drawing me closer to Him!
I actually have a copy of this book I would love to send someone. If you will email me at [email protected] with your mailing address, I’ll mail it to the first response.
My favorite TV show EVER is NCIS – never miss it and will watch re-runs if I can’t find anything else on.
I ditto this one-for sure!
Leroy Jethro Gibbs for President!
I’d vote for him! But Abbie has to run for VP. ๐
My favorite thing right now is my ipod filled with praise & worship music. I clip it on my workout pants and it keeps me focused on Kingdom things and leads me in worship at the gym (where it is easy for me to get distracted by the news of the world on all the TV screens in front of the cardio machines.) This same sweet ipod has kept me company on nights when I couldn’t sleep or days when I needed help to think the things of God in a time of hurt or confusion. Really! I LOVE my ipod full praise & worship music SO MUCH !!! I’m taking it with me to our women’s retreat where 6 to a cabin can cause sleep concerns…no not me, I’ll be plugged in if necessary. ๐
My favorite fiction book(s) ever…The Mark of the Lion Trilogy by Francine Rivers. This should be required christian reading, if I do say so myself ๐
I’m on the third book now. This series has profoundly impacted the way I view walking by faith and being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry (James 1:19)
thumbs way up! i’m in the middle of the last book and i’ll be so sad when it ends!
you should ck out her two newest books, “Her Mother’s Hope” and the sequel, “Her Daughter’s Dream”. I’m addicted to the second one right now and will probably have it read in two days. ๐
I don’t read a lot of fiction but I could not put that series down. Those were the best fiction books I have ever read. I read them probably 7 or 8 years ago and I still think about them. Great, great books!
I agree, absolutely! I recommend it to all my friends, believers and unbelievers. How much we can learn from Hadassah.
My favorite book in the Christian fiction genre is “The Hawk and the Dove” by Penelope Wilcock. Don’t miss it!
I love this book, too, Julie! Absolutely wonderful!
i used to work at the publishing company that brought that book to the states back in the early 90s! it is a great read. i’ll have to dig it out of my stash and reread it.
I like The Robe and how it all come together. The movie is alright but the book has more detail. In the book you can see how the various people are coming together in a way that you can’t in the movie.
My absolute favorite time of the year is fall. Nothing quite like it in Northern Michigan!! I can say that winter is definitely 4th on the list…today I’m working from home…SNOW DAY:O,
The sound of Diet coke being poured over ice is one of my favorite sounds…It makes me happy.
My favorite thing right now is a very hot bubble bath and a book. Read till the water gets cold then finish up quickly.
My favorite movie ever is Sense and Sensibility – I’m a hopeless romantic!!!
Great movie! Have you seen the new bbc version? I think I might like it better than the movie.
My favorite thing to do is “jam out” with my two teenage boys in the vehicle. We have spent MANY hours/miles in the vehicle and all 3 love country/gospel/bluegrass music. We crank it way up and don’t worry about our “tune” just enjoy the moment. LOVE IT!
My “current” favorite book is ‘One Thousand Gifts’ by Ann Voskamp. I’m on my second time through it, and I’m getting so much out of it. I read it on my Nook then just had to purchase it in hardback so I could mark up all the parts that especially speak to me.
My favorite hair implement – a banana clip… and I hear they are making a comeback! Hello 1980s!
LOVE IT MARY!!!!!!
I think my favorite is little kids who do not pronounce words correctly.
like tookies for cookies
undernair for underwear
muskik for music and other such funny words. I’ve even been known to ask for certain words over and over and I never correct those most precious words that will eventually disappear.
My niece would say, tookies for cookies.
Also Pockies, for pockets (imagine sticking her leg out to point to said pockies)
Also, her parents had a jacuzzi but it came out as ‘batuzzi.’ As in where are your parents…’in the batuzzi.’
My all-time favorite was my daughter’s “peezle puss” for puzzle piece. She doesn’t believe me that she ever said that!
Your comment reminds me of my now 10 year old as a four year old talking about C3PO in the Star Wars movies. He’d say, “SHREE PEE PEE OOH” ๐ I never once corrected him, either, and it disappeared much too fast!! Thanks for that sweet memory ๐
My 4 year old son calls cupcakes ‘pupcakes’. Love it!
yeah… i love that too….. my niece calls my other niece… baby biolet… and her name is baby violet… sooooooo precious…..
My favorite Starbucks drink is a Grande Non-fat Chai Latte. That drink has gotten me through more bad mornings than I can count.
My favorite moment of the day is the ritual of making a cup of tea. Fill the kettle, listen for the whistle, catch a whiff of tea perfume when the hot water hits the tea bag, steep for 5 minutes, add sugar, milk, stir and sip. That first sip is the best moment of the day.
My favorite “chick flick” ever is Sense And Sensibility. I don’t know how many times I have watched this movie. Ahhh, my man is out of town tonight – I may have to watch it AGAIN. LOL.
My favorite book EVER (beyond the Bible) is So Long, Insecurity: You’ve Been a Bad Friend to Us. And I earnestly mean that. I have recommended this book so often and to so many women. I’ve shared the link online to read it and bought it for someone as well. I’ve printed out the prayer and given it to women. It was the catalyst to rebirthing a 32+ year friendship that satan was surely tearing apart. The truths in this book brought light to some very dark places which brought me even closer to my Savior. I cannot stress enough what a glorious blessing this book can be to a woman’s life.
My favorite ice cream ever is Blue Bell Mocha Almond Fudge.
That is definitely my favorite ice cream EVER!
My parents loved that brand (BlueBell) so much, they made my brother transport it from Houston whenever he came to Dallas because it had not yet made it into the Dallas stores. Now it’s my favorite.
Well, this may not be practical to all the rest of you, but the only favorite on my mind right now is my favorite person EVER – who happens to be my husband. I’m staring at him right now. He’s my favorite not just because he’s so easy to love, but because I choose to love him and prefer him even when he’s not easy to love. He makes me smile. ๐
My favorite trips EVER were the trips I took from my home in Southern California to my mom’s in Southern Utah. I drove with my then-small children, traveling at night to make it easier on them (and me!) We drove through Las Vegas to get there, and as we could see the lights of the city on the horizon, I popped in Elvis Greatest Hits in the tape player and we sang Elvis all the way through Vegas. I flat wore that tape out, and still laugh over and love the memories we made on the road.
My favorite thing to eat is the mediteranean tuna salad at Rao’s Bakery in Beaumont Tx(I think there is one in Spring too) and of course a fabulous, dark, rich, creamy, sweet cup of coffee!!!
My favorite hair color is Nice N Easy,,,cuz it is. LOL
I love Burts Bees lip balm! My husband says he’s the other man in our marriage!
Use it every night right before I go to bed. I love their hand cream, too!
Beth
I love Burts bee hand cream also I have one sitting right in front of me and it is the almond one it smell so good.
Carol
I use it every night too before bed, along with my Tropical Traditions hand and body lotion in Lavender scent. Heavenly!
I cn not go anywhere without it. I won’t leave the house without it. it is even in my ID badge pocket right now at work.
hahaaa.. yes, that makes me think about my body pillow. ever since being pregnant (our girl is 2 months old now) i can’t seem to sleep without it. he calls it the other man in our marriage. sometimes in frustration he just throws it from the bed and i die laughing.. and promptly retrieve it. ๐
i have a burt’s bees that stays in my desk at work, one that stays in my purse, and one that stays on the table beside my bed ๐ good stuff!!
My favorite moment is when we cross the Oregon Inlet Bridge in Hatteras, NC. That means we are almost to our little cozy beach house where there are NO demands. Just lazy days!
My favorite Happy moment Ever!
Was two days ago!!!!
I don’t have friends, (shy girl + not knowing how to make friends) left me a 31 year old who is lonely. I had been praying recently and specifically to the Lord Jesus about making friends that love HIM and are my age and are fun!!!
Well, two days ago I got invited to a Avon party (never been, it was fun! I like the glosses if anyone wants to know) The girl that invited me is a neighbor and a little younger than me and the friend that went with us is nearer to my age and…they go to my church.
After the party, we impromtu, went to sushi, and I found myself sitting there having a conversation with these two young fun woman that love Jesus and we were having great food and it was totally me. And I thought, ‘Jesus, look at me, I’m having dinner with my friends.’
Silly I know, but it was new for me and my prayers were answered and I am excited about what GOD is doing in my life.
Thanks for reading/listening –
PS: I also adore the discont. mascara. ๐
I love this…making new friends and finding yourself at dinner already!
Isn’t is the Best to know that Jesus hears our desires and provides for us. He met the desire of your heart <3
{{{HUGS}}}
I rejoice with you! I know what you mean, dear sister…it’s these little encounters that brighten our life and I have often thanked God for times like this that just encouraged me and showed me how much our Father loves us.
May the Lord multiply this into more special times with friends!
We here are all your friends too!
IYour post brought tears to my eyes. I’ve prayed that you will know the richness of fellowship with Him through the love of other Siestas more often.
You are perfectly made, even in the things you think are imperfect. He said so, and He “Don’t Lie”!
PRECIOUS!!!!! thanks for sharing with the Siestaville. We ALL WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND/SIESTA!
My favorite thing is making or finding THE PERFECT gift for someone I love and experiencing the joy of watching them open it and treasure it.
my favorite memory of being a single mom to 2 sons (now 20 and 22) is playing in their room on a Friday night…ramping matchbox cars off the Little Tikes 3 foot mountain to find the best ramper.
My favorite smell is tobacco being fired in the barn (it’s a western Kentucky thing). It makes me homesick and brings back so many wonderful memories of my childhood!
My favorite season EVER is fall!! Only God could create something so beautiful.
especially fall in New England…It is AWESOME!!!!!!
And yes,, only God…. Can….
My favorite Brownie Mix in the whole wide world……ALDI’s!! It’s the fudgiest, hormone-appeasing mix on the market ๐
That is SO TRUE. I hate name brand brownie mix. Nothing measures up to aldi’s!!
My favorite eye brow pencil EVER is the It Cosmetics Brow Power pencil. For every one you buy, one goes to a breast cancer patient. I am in treatment for breast cancer right now and although my eyebrows did not fall completely out, this pencil really helped fill in the thin places.
Beth, know that you are being sent a hug! Not only do you have Brow Power for your beautiful eyebrows, you have Sis Power rooting you in in your treatment here! ๐
Thanks Jo! I live in Eastern Europe as a missionary and am so glad to have Siestas praying for me!
My favorite thing ever (right now) is Ann Voskamp’s book, One Thousand Gifts.
Oooo and I love the movie Pride and Prejudice … the most recent one with Keira Knightly and Matthew Mcfadyen.
My favorite vacation ever…..Disneyland with the whole family! JOY. FUN. RELAXING. CRAZY. SPECIAL. Thank-you Mr. Disney!
Moosemama, your name caught my eye. That’s my user name on a Boston Terrier forum I’m a member of! I have 4 bostons, that I lovingly refer to as “the mooses”. ๐
YOU AND I WILL HAVE TO GO TO DISNEYLAND TOGETHER ~ any other Siesta’s want to join us?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE D I S N E Y L A N D!!!!!!!!!!!!
“When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true.”

My favorite day ever was marrying my husband, JJ!
My favorite method to keep the house clean & organized is The Fly Lady!!
I love the Flylady too Lisa, still have some of her saying in my head after years. “Vacuuming the middles still blesses your family” or “a swish and swipe” or “It’s not the potion, it’s the motion(referring to cleaning products)
