Just Wondering What You’re Up To

Hey, Darling Things!

I’m working from home today and thought I’d take a little break and let my study-brain relax a minute and tune my heart into Siestaville. Let me tell you how proud I am of you for clocking in with the same general number of 2nd verses as you did your first verses. The hard part is not the start. It’s pressing on all the way through the year to the finish. But, then, like all runners that make it across that beautiful line, we get to celebrate a huge victory that only comes to those who sweat it out. We give all praise and glory to our empowering, sustaining God and sit back for a reflective moment, take a deep breath, and feel His glorious good pleasure. Community will become more and more essential as we realize that, without making a public commitment and running the race beside a host of others in this Scripture memory marathon, we’ll probably fizzle out. There is no doubt in my mind that we’re more successful at this together than we are separately. It’s God’s way.

Yesterday was a really fun day at LPM. I already put this on Twitter but it took about a half a dozen of our staff members to put together additional shelves for the books Melissa has acquired since she last worked within the ministry office.

I have promised Melissa my library when God takes me Home, but if she keeps this up at this rate for the next fifteen years, she’s going to pass me by and I’m going to leave mine to Curtis. (That threat won’t mean much to you but it will get Melissa and her dear brother-in-law  sparring again over who gets the books which, in turn, gives me a great laugh.) Amanda has been promised other things like what sits on my left hand. But I might spite them all and live a really long time…with colored hair and firm foundations (and I don’t mean the latter in the religious sense. Or the former for that matter. I cannot find hair color in the Scriptures unless I get to count head coverings which, to me, is not unreasonable. In that way and others like unto it, I am a very submissive woman). We’ll see how that pans out. (The timing of my demise not my hair color.)

The other really cool thing we did yesterday at LPM was preview the movie Courageous. It’s the new movie by the people that gave us “Face the Giants” and it comes out in September. (www.courageousthemovie.com) I will remind you guys about it when the release day gets closer but I can’t wait till then to tell you about it. Sisters, it was so good. I don’t want to give away the story line but I can’t quit thinking about it. They have done such a magnificent job with it. We honestly laughed out loud and cried and cheered. I can hardly wait until it comes out. I think God has something far beyond good, solid family entertainment for this film. I’ve told you guys before that, after retiring from the Army, my daddy ran movie theaters so I love few things on this earth more than good movies and great popcorn. (Yes, we popped corn yesterday. And I ate mine with a Starbucks instead of a coke which was an odd pairing and one I might not venture to combine next time.) The primary message of Courageous is targeted to our men who we all know are also targeted by our very vicious enemy. I really believe I can tell you in advance that the guys in your life will love the movie. Mine will and he’s not easy to please. Courageous scores very low on the cheese factor which we know drives most guys crazy about any form of Christian entertainment or encouragement. I dare say that we may be a tad cheesy in Siestaville but we try to keep our Velveeta loaded with jalapenos.

Lastly, I’ll tell you that we started our January Bible study on Tuesday night with one of the best groups God has ever brought our way. We were flabbergasted. May He be greatly praised and glorified in that sweet sanctuary where He’s met with some of His people so many times. We’ll be talking on here about meeting on Tuesdays but we won’t be talking on here about the material because I’ve established a gag order. Laughing. The on-site participants are previewing a (very little) bit of homework so that their experience will be richer but, for copyright’s sake and for future publishing, we’re going to keep it and the session materials low key. It’s not that we’re hiding something. It’s that it’s just a long way from being finished. I also don’t want hype. Ick. Even well meaning hype from those who are sweetly biased. I just want to study Scripture as God presents it to us in His own good time and His own good way. I won’t actually do the LifeWay taping for this series until late April when we do it with a studio audience and I’ll still write through most of the summer. I am reluctant to keep bringing up the series on here because I don’t want to build it all up in anybody’s mind. A curriculum that speaks to one person can hit another person cold. How this turns out is all up to the Holy Spirit but what I can tell you in advance is that, God willing, we will do our best to know that brief Book of the Bible by the time we’re done.  Whether anybody will actually “like” it or not is up for grabs. James isn’t necessarily a party bus.

Well, I’ve had about as much of a break as I can afford today. You’re on my mind every day and I pray for you often.

Oh, and this is one reason I got on here today! You know what we’re doing to stay in the Word this early 2011 but what are each of you doing? (Besides memorizing!) Tell me what you’re studying right now!

I love you guys.

Beth last fall a group of women from our church did the Faithful Abundant and True. Now for the first study of the year, we are doing Anointed Transformed and Redeemed. I can’t tell you how blessed we feel to be a part of this group. Not only to dig into the word, but to hold each other accountable in our walk with Christ. I have also been given the honor to lead a group of High School girls at the Christian School where I work. Instead of having a chapel every week we have what is called flipped fridays. It consists of multiple Bible studies with Jr. High and High School students some student lead and some Adult led. The group I am leading is Faithful Abundant and True. Another Adult is leading the Esther study. The hope is that more students will lead these studies. The group I have love the videos and I can’t tell you how incredibly blessed I feel to be a part of these two groups. Bless you Beth for your faithfulness to God’s word and bringing it to the world in such a way that is exciting and life breathing. Your love for Jesus is contagious. Keep on doing what the Lord is calling you to do. Love you.

I am fairly new to the blog but am fired up about scripture memory. I have bible study at my house on Monday. It is small group that started with 15 women from my neighborhood and now is down to 6 faithful WOMEN. We have done about about 5 Beth Moore studies and just finished Breaking Free. It was so awesome to see each one of us released from one strong hold then another. Thank you Living Proof and Beth Moore for your dedication to our LORD and women. It is so awesome to see change us from the inside out. I have been a christain for years but just in last few years have come to love and depend on GOD’S HOLY WORD. I love the LORD because he first loved me.

In my personal quiet time I am using Beth’s study ‘Living Beyond Yourself’. On the introductory DVD when Beth said my name attached to a very pertinent comment I knew it was a nudge to ‘Come Out’ of my own self made tomb.
I just finished ‘Jesus One and Only’. WOW my heart is full and over flowing.
In my bible study group we are following ‘Believing God’ which we started last year and are savouring every word. Much discussion as we are a very varied group in age, wisdom and learning.
Praise the Lord that Beth has such a gift for leading us through the Word.

My work siestas and I are really enjoying Jesus the One and Only. We meet twice a week in a little conference room during lunch. We start the homework on Saturday, view the video on Tuesday and by the time we meet for Thursday lunch we review the homework together. It has been such a wonderful time of personal growth and growing togethers as siestas in Christ. We studied Esther (oh ya, it’s hard to be a woman…) last summer and Daniel in the fall. We are sooooo very excited you are coming to Fresno in April (on my birthday I might add) and will all be joining you there. Keep cranking out those Bible studies!

My best friend and I are finishing up a book study called, “God’s Outrageous Claims” by Lee Strobel. It’s pretty fascinating…I’m a relatively new Christian (just a year and a half into this) and I am almost 44 years old. It’s just remarkable and exciting for me to learn about what is TRUTH. I come from a very complicated and difficult background, so this is all just amazing to me. God has blessed me immeasurably with a deep LOVE for His word. We are starting Jesus the One and Only in two weeks…with a group, but my friend is leading it. I have been dying to do this study for about 9 months, so I’m just completely pumped to do it! Got our books a few days ago…and I know it sounds crazy, but I love the smell of a new book!

Life is difficult BUT WITH GOD it can be a victorious, abundant journey. To HIM be ALL the glory!

Doing Beth’s newest edition of “Breaking Free” with my women’s Bible study (did the old one a few years ago) but feel like I’m doing it for the first time. SO much the Lord has been speaking to me about! Also doing word studies on a few key words in my memory verses for the SSMT. It’s helped so much – not only making the memorization easier but also making the meaning of the verses stick with me so much more! I’m loving it!

We just began Priscilla Shirer’s Jonah study with 58 women on Tues night and Wed morning. We are so excited that the women from our last few studies are getting out there and inviting others to study God’s word.

In our Women’s Sunday School class we are doing a verse by verse study of Jeremiah. We are going to see how far we get by the end of May. It’s amazing to see the light bulb go off when someone reads a verse and realizes that one verse has such a powerful message.

Hey there, siestas! I am thrilled to be participating in the lpm memory scripture team this year and honored to be counted a siesta! I am currently studying, “Stepping Up” and LOVING IT! For those of you that are not familiar with Beth’s study of the pilgrimage psalms, let me tell you, it is a delight!! I have learned so much about the festivals that the Israelites and our beloved Christ celebrated and their very personal meaning in our own lives. A few months ago, God did the coolest thing. I had printed out an article from the web where Beth was talking about her trip to Angola and how the hungry people there were eating seeds instead of sowing them into the ground so that they would produce crops and related this to how we eat the seeds of God’s word instead of sowing them into the hard ground of our lives, and IT CLICKED WITH ME!!! I printed it out and actually listened. (Wow!) As I opened the study “Stepping Up”, God directed me to the exact SAME STORY. Apparently Beth had taken the web article from this study or vice versa. Anyway, THERE IT WAS! The very same story that had been so instrumental in getting through my thick skull, and I KNEW this was the study for me! I have so enjoyed my pilgrammage thus far and thank the Lord for Beth Moore who is so attentive to what God is saying to her and so adept at passing it on to us!

Delray Beach Fl, If anyone is out their this am please pray for me neighbor and her fiance. He went into the ER last night and four hours later they took him in and he was in liver failure. They have no answers yet but while in his bed in a shared room, the older gentleman next to him was on an oxygen mask, got up and attacked my neighbor, pulled his IV out and hit him them both with the IV stand. They are now in a private room, and the specialist is coming in this morning. I have reassured her that talking to GOD and asking him to be with her now is the one thing I can do for her and for her to do the same. I could think of no better place then right here amongst you all, your faith moves me and inspires me. Please pray for them and the peace, calm that comes with reaching our for GOD’s hand. Thank You…

    Hi,

I am wondering if someone can tell me if there is some way to find a specific comment here on the blog. I was reading yesterday and there were a few people who had asked for prayer and were going to give updates and now there are over 1000 comments!

Probably won’t do me much good to answer here because I have no clue how to go back to what I posted either. Maybe someone would be kind enough to email me. I will just give the general email address on my business site.

My life is a bit crazy right now! I am taking a class once a week for my job which has nothing to do with studying Scripture. However, aside from memorizing Scripture I still have my nose in the Book; I am reading it through as well as reading “My Utmost for His Highest” devotional.

You’ve got me all excited about the new movie “Courageous”; didn’t even know they were coming out with another one; can’t wait!!

I am studying your new study on “David”. It is comforting to know that David had some of the same feelings and emotions that we have on a daily basis. I am also taking my Siesta Scripture Memory seriously this year. Our pastors are preaching on Proverbs in 2011 and have asked each of us to read one chapter of the book each day in January. It’s cool that there are 31 chapters in the book and 31 days in the month. My accountant mind loves when numbers work out that way!! Each day we read the chapter and underline a verse that speaks to us. Then we pray about it, take action on it and journal about it. It has been a treasure to my thirsty heart. So glad for this challenge.
