For You in Your 20’s and You Who Will Pray For Them

**UPDATE: We are just so happy to have all of you 20-somethings flock to requesting prayer! Our faithful God surely hears, and cares to His core! If you do not see a specific partner reply to your request, know that the LPM Staff have adopted you. We will pray for each of you, joyfully!

One of my favorite things about Twitter is that we can come to really love someone we wouldn’t have even known to like. Someone from an entirely different part of the country or the planet. Someone from a totally different tradition of our faith. Someone in another generation who serves God in a way that is fresh and exhilarating to us. I have a whole mental list of those and just this morning prayed for a number of young women that I’ve gotten to “know” there on that ridiculous stream of social media that I love. It is a young man that I’ve come to appreciate so much, however, that prompted this post. His name is Jefferson Bethke. I didn’t know anything about him until 6 months ago when Melissa, my youngest daughter, told me she enjoyed following him on Twitter. He is a great communicator God clearly has His hand upon and a poet who creates fantastic thought-provoking videos. I’m glad to have the privilege to tell you about him but that’s not why I’m bringing him up today. A week or so ago on Twitter he mentioned sitting on the airplane, moved with emotion over various testimonies he’d been reading of lives dramatically changed by Jesus Christ. It hit me right then that one of the things I loved best about him is that the young man simply has a pure heart. He just flat-out loves Jesus and loves people. It’s consistent in everything he says and writes. I felt an urgency right that moment to ask God to protect that holy passion and sustain it the length of his days.

And that’s when I thought of all of you in his same generation who really do want to honor God and fulfill the purpose for which He planted your feet on this earth.

Here’s what I want to say to you: you really can maintain a pure and fiery heart toward Christ and His mission on earth but make no mistake: you will not do it by accident.

If you want a pure heart, you better be willing to fight for it. You will not keep it any other way.

The first big relief is that we can’t conjure one up on our own. God alone can create in us a pure heart and renew a right spirit within us. (Psalm 51:10) He alone can set it ablaze with holy passion. But out of God’s sovereign wisdom, He determined that guarding the heart He formed and lit within us would, in many ways, fall to us. We’re to own part of that job.

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

Our second huge relief is that we can have a pure heart whether or not we have a pure past. Thank You, Jesus. If not, I and many others would be stuck for a lifetime with dark distorted hearts and deformed desires.

There are many other things more effective voices could tell you about guarding your heart toward Christ, toward people He’s sent you to serve and toward His mission on this planet. Ask them and learn from them. My purpose today is to pitch into the mix a couple of things that I’ve learned – and keep learning – in case any of it resonates with you. I also want to pray for you and call others to do the same. Here goes:

*Your heart will cool off if you do nothing to guard it. Jesus warned us in the 24th chapter of Matthew that “because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” (V.12) We’re exposed to so much suffering and violence, pain, pretense, and wrongdoing in the world that, even as a defense against feeling so much, we’ll naturally thicken up. I’m certainly not suggesting we be less informed. Uninformed Christians can be a waste of light in the darkness. What I’m suggesting is that, if you want to keep a warm, feeling heart, you better be prepared to fight like mad for it.

*Over time, you can get really cynical. For one thing, cynicism can be really funny so we get drawn to it. It also tends to be cooler. You have to be willing to be one of those that the cynics could make fun of.

*You have to realize that guarding your heart means guarding its willingness to love and be exposed out there where it can get wronged or wounded. A couple of years ago I was researching God’s self-disclosure in Exodus 34:5-7 and stumbled onto something that totally changed the way I looked at guarding my heart. Here’s the segment so you can see it for yourself:

5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love…

See that word “maintaining”? It is a form of the same Hebrew term used in Proverbs 4:23  for “guarding” our hearts. In other words, a huge part of guarding my heart is maintaining love. It was a total game changer for me because somehow I had associated guarding my heart with keeping it sheltered. Try to fathom that God actively maintains His love toward us. He guards it. Using that same concept, He calls us to maintain our love toward other people. If I want to stay in love with my husband, for instance, I better actively practice maintaining it because, left to its nature, it will grow cold.

One of the things that God keeps teaching me to do is pray with everything in me and on an ongoing basis to love Jesus more than anything I can see or touch in this human realm. He promises in Scripture to grant us everything we pray in His will and in His name. (1 John 5:14-15)  Since His greatest command was that we love (Mark 12:30-31), you can pray for it with absolute confidence that He’s going to do it. In fact, every time you ask God for it, go ahead and thank Him in advance that He’s going to accomplish it. He will. Then when He starts doing it, you start guarding it with all your might.

Ask Him continually to stir fire in your bones for His Word and for His mission. Ask Him to sustain it in you and teach you how to guard it through every inch of your lifespan. Only put up with a sense of spiritual flatness for a matter of days. That’s completely normal. But when it begins to turn into weeks, go face-down on that floor and ask God to give you insight into what seems off and to revive your heart. Don’t just accept coldness. Fight for love.

What is it you want from God? Pray for it feverishly! “Pursue love and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts.” That’s what 1 Corinthians 14:1 says.

Also ask others to pray these things over you. That’s what I am hoping this blog post will be about today.

Here’s what I’m asking all of you to do if you’re willing:

*Those of you in your 20’s, tell us at least your first name, where you’re from, and a little bit about you in a comment so that we can personalize our intercessions for you.

*The rest of you choose one of them to pray for (or two, if you have the time), let them know in a reply under their comment that you are adopting them for intercession for the next 14 days. Tell them where you’re from as well. I think they’ll like knowing that, too. As long as every 20-something gets signed-up for, it doesn’t matter if a number of you are praying for the same individual. If they’re like us, they’d be ecstatic to have the extra prayer covering. Pray as you feel led by God but, within that intercession, pray particularly for God to stir up and sustain a holy passion in them for Himself, His mission, and for people on this planet, and that they will be alert and proactive in guarding their hearts to last a lifetime. Ask God forthrightly to deliver them from any area of bondage, strengthen them in temptation, and deliver them from evil. Love them with all your might through prayer.

Let’s partner with this generation and intercede powerfully for them. They are the rising future of the church of Jesus Christ at this tumultuous time on the Kingdom calendar. Let’s pray them out there.

Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you, and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.  1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 ESV

PS. To our regular blog community: I put this in a comment but I’m afraid many of you may not see it.

I am grateful beyond expression for your participation on this post. Please move at the same pace that you see our 20-somethings sign up. In other words, if at our first moderation there are 15 of them, see that all 15 are spoken for then, instead of doubling and tripling up on the same small group, watch for others to be posted and claim those. Assume in about 48 hours that we’ll probably have around 80% of the 20-somethings that will end up participating. Still, check every couple of days for about a week to make sure everybody gets covered if you don’t mind. Sisters, this woman right here KNOWS how powerfully you pray. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it. You are solid gold in the Kingdom of God! Pray for these young people like you’d want somebody to pray for your own children, whether or not you have any. Take them on as blood. Pray with faith and holy fire. Pray like the near future of the church depends on Jesus revealing Himself through them. They are so worth it. JESUS is so worth it.

I love you guys madly.

Beth

Hello All! My name is Ashley, and I’m from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I am 29-years-old, so the 20s are drawing to a close, but I could desperately use your prayers as I am ever-dependent on Father to guide me through this time of transition. Everything is shifting for me – job, housing, relationships, ministry – and to what exactly He is still in the process of unveiling. Thank you so much for covering our generation in prayer! What a tremendous blessing it was for me to read these words today. “Create in me a clean, pure heart” is almost a daily prayer I breathe – God bless you!

I am 58 years old from Windsor Colorado and am just finshing my 3rd year of going back to school to train for Christian Counseling. Through the years God has given me a heart for young women seeking Him in their lives, so i am very happy to be a part of this wonderful time of prayer for our young Christian women and especially for you Ashley. Be assured you will be on my heart as well as in my thoughts and prayers!

I will be praying for you daily that you will walk in an ever deepening trust and surrender as God reveals more of His plan for you. I will also be praying for wisdom and direction as you seek His will. And of course, that you will fall more in love with Jesus every day.

    Olivia Ragland says:

My name is Olivia, I’m 20, mother to a precious baby girl and a wife to one amazing man. I grew up in a family where the idea of Christianity was looked down upon. As I came into my teen years I was swept up by all of the worldly temptations.

A year after Jake and I started dating, we found out we were pregnant. A swirl of emotions came over us, mostly scared. After hours of discussion, we chose life for our sweet baby girl. Even though we were terrified, we knew how special this gift was.

Months later we chose to get married. Though we knew we were in each others “life plan” we had no idea how fast things were going to move, God did. He had this plan all along, to bring us together, to make us into a sweet family.

Jake’s parents have been God’s shepherds for us, they have spoke years of marital wisdom into our hearts. I thank God everyday for them and their beautiful marriage. Debbie and David have shown me what a relationship with God looks like, I could not be more thankful for that.

Right now I need prayers for my heart, my mother, and my husband. This world is so tough for a new believer. I need prayers for my spiritual roots to grow deep so that I can be all that God has intended me to be. I need prayers for my mom and I’s relationship, it is hard and full of twisted knots of sadness and anger. We need to forgive each other, please pray for forgiveness in our hearts. I also need prayers for my husbands heart, he is resisting God’s pull on his heart. He grew up in such an amazing faith based home, but he grew weary of it. He wants to do it all on his own, and I know it’s impossible. Please pray for God to open his eyes to His glory and grace. And please pray for our marriage, that the pulls of this world will not effect it, and that we continue to pursue love everyday.

    Thank you so much.

      Donna says:

      Hi Olivia
I live in Laguna Niguel, CA and would consider it a privilege to pray for you.
My granddaughter is also Olivia (5 years old) and I love her to pieces! So I was drawn to your post immediately. But then I read it through and realized that your situation is much like my Olivia’s mommy and daddy (my daughter in love and son). My daughter in love was not raised in a Christian home and is not encouraged even now by her mother – my son was raised by parents who love The Lord (that would be us) and he does as well….not so much that you would notice ….as he is striving to do it all himself now. So the momma of that family is carrying that load herself and she is fairly new to the faith.
All of that explanation to share with you so you can know that I will pray for you, Olivia, as I pray for my kids. You and your family will be right in there too.

One other note regarding your mom….my own mother accepted Jesus late in her life and it was my privilege to lead her to that point where she realized that Jesus loves her, died for her, and rose again to give her eternal life. So don’t give up and I will pray that healing will begin now between your mother and you.

      • Olivia Ragland says:

Donna, I could not be more thankful for your prayers. I’ll be praying for your son and his family as well. It humbles me to see how much love complete strangers, from all the way across the country, can pour out in the name of Jesus!

        • Donna says:

I feel as you do Olivia that there is a special bond between us because we both have the spirit of Christ living in us. Thank you for praying for my son Jamie, Courtney and two of my grandchildren Olivia and Rory.
I will continue to pray for you and your husband, daughter and your mom.
You may contact me directly if you wish at [email protected]……if you should feel comfortable doing that.
Your husbands parents must be so proud of you and now you are standing in the gap for their son as well as your mom……I can’t help but believe God has His hand on this family And He is pleased with your faithfulness and your open heart. I’m expecting great answers to our payers
Love and blessings to you, Donna

I am 29 years old. My husband and I have been blessed with 9 years of marriage and 4 amazing kids ages 7, 5, 2 and almost 1 🙂 The biggest desire of my heart is that my kids know God as their personal Saviour and that they love him with all that they are. That they cling to God at all times. I want to be a good Mom to them and I want my husband and I to have good relationships with them. I want them to be close siblings and that there wouldn’t be any division in our family. That we would all love God and love each other. That there would be joy, care, support and honesty and respect and loyalty in our home. And that we would bring God glory and show his love to others.

Thank you not just for this post but for your entire ministry. It is such a blessing. Thank you for the support a d encouragement and challenge to lift one another up in prayer.

Hello! My name is Angela and I am 29. I could really use prayer for my marriage and for raising my two young sons. I would love to have some direction on God’s purpose for my life…but raising a family and working doesn’t leave me much time for prayer and reflection. My boys don’t sleep through the night, so I am tired much of the time which makes things harder. I sincerely appreciate your prayers!

Hi Angela, my name is Beth. I’m 55 years old with a 30 year marriage & we raised 2 sons. I understand what you are going through to some extent and I will pray with you and for you. I know that you might feel overwhelmed and overly tired but God sees your heart & is right there just look for Him. The word tells us when we wait upon the Lord we will gain strength, it’s the great exchange, take advantage of that. If you don’t have time take it when you are doing a mindless task. My favorite time to steal away with Him is while I’m folding clothes or washing dishes. Exchange your weakness for His strength.
      I believe in you!

I found during the time when my boys were little and I was barely getting food on the table and laundry done that short devotionals worked best in keeping my heart tender towards God. I would love to send you one of my favorites as a way of investing in your journey. If you want to, email me at keri@ me.com and I will ship one to you from one boy mama to another. Hang in there!!

    Ami A. says:

Hi, my name is Ami and I am 26 years old. I live in southern Alabama with my wonderful husband, beautiful preschool daughter, and our three furry ones.

Where do I begin? I am at a place in my life where I need more. I need to get back to my roots and turn it all over to God like I used to. He has more for my life than what I am living right now. I need His heart.

I am commuting to a job I hate and have been praying for a better, closer job but nothing has changed. I am trying to figure out what my purpose is when I feel like I don’t have one sometimes.

I need to be the woman of God that my husband and daughter need me to be. I need to be the woman God created me to be, and He has to have my heart to do that. I need a desperate touch of His Spirit again.

I am in the process of writing a novel that has been on my heart for several months. Writing is my passion and I know God would not have placed the passion, talent, and desire inside of me if He didn’t plan on using it for His glory.

God is greater. Than every circumstance, than every doubt. We all need to remember that, especially when we feel so far away from Him.

Hi Ami! My name is Laney. I am 35 and am from Southern Alabama (Mobile). I now live in Jacksonville, FL with my husband and 3 children. It would be my absolute honor to pray for you. I can totally relate to being in a season of life where it feels like you have kinda left God. Where you just don’t have the intimacy you once had. I can assure you that you so have a purpose and God has a beautiful plan for your life (Jer. 29:11). I will ask God to meet you right where you are. He loves you so much!! I will be praying for your job situation and also for your novel. That’s awesome that you are a writer! Just the fact that you know you need Him more in your life is a great starting place. Spend time with Him. Be honest and real. God bless you Ami!!

      Amelia says:

Hey Ami! I’m only 22, but your post caught my eye because we have much in common. I am getting married in August and am moving to Alabama, I am desperately trying to learn what it means to be a godly wife, and I am about to graduate with a degree in journalism (writing a book is on my bucket list!)

I understand what it’s like to feel like I have no purpose, and I know what it feels like to deeply long for God’s Holy Spirit to move in a powerful way. I need that so desperately too. I just want you to know that, even though I’m not one of the older women who read these posts, I will commit to pray for you in all your endeavors. It is obvious to me that you desire the Lord and that you are seeking Him, and those who seek Him with all their heart will surely find Him.

If you want to keep in touch, let me know!

      • Ami A. says:

        Hi Amelia!

Age doesn’t matter. 🙂 What part of Alabama are you moving to? Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Marriage is such a wonderful partnership, through the good and bad. Being a godly wife is something that I am trying to learn how to be and we have been married for almost five years. I think it is something that will take a lifetime to learn as God molds us.

I love that you are getting a degree in journalism. That is what I always planned on, but I let others sway my decision. Good for you for doing what YOU want!

I’d love to stay in touch. 🙂 My email is [email protected].

I’ll be praying for you, as well. God sees your heart and He has plans for you beyond anything you could ever imagine.

My name is Frances. I’m 23, I live on O’ahu in Hawai’i. I desire God’s will in my life. Please pray for me as i’m commiting to go on mission trip to Thailand, pray for the financial support needed, and the work we’ll be doing there with the Khao Dee orphanage. Also, my 4year relationship has come to a close. That relationship was not encouraging my growth towards Jesus and was not bring honor/glory to God. Pray for strength to get through it, pray for contentment to be alone with Jesus. He is all that i need, and i will wait until he brings that person into my life. That person whose heart beats for Christ, who loves Jesus more than anything in this world.

      Melissa says:

      Dear Father,

I lift up Frances to you. Oh, how wonderful it is to desire your will for our lives. We know that it’s the best. We know you are good. And yet, there are twists and turns that sometimes make us wonder. The race is a long one also and endurance is needed. I ask that you would help Frances to hear you and know you more fully today. I pray that you would open her eyes to a special touch of grace. May she be strengthened for the future by the work that you are doing right now and the reminder of what you have done in the past. May she find sweet refreshment in your Word. May she stay strong and focused as your truth fills her.

Lord, I pray for her upcoming mission trip. Thank you for providing this opportunity and for all that she will need. I ask that you will give her the financial support that is needed. I pray that you would place a deep love in her heart for the children/people she will be working with.

As she works through the end of her relationship, I pray that you would protect her from the wrong things and comfort her with the right things. I pray that her heart would remain sensitive to you and trust you and your timing. I ask that you would help her adjust to this time period of not being in a relationship. I ask for your grace and wisdom as she works and waits for you to reveal what is next.

Father, thank you for Frances. Thank you for creating her in your image, for calling her, for redeeming her, for giving her all she needs for life with you. Thank you for the opportunity she has today to live for your glory. May those that know her be touched by you. I ask these things in your precious name, Jesus. Amen.

Hi! My name is Tricia, and I am 20 years old. I’m a Junior at Liberty University and I am loving my time here in school. I’m originally from the great state of Ohio, but I live in Virginia year round for work and school. Please pray for the end of my semester, as I have more to do than I have the time for. I work 35 hours a week and am a full time student, so it’s not always easy to balance all of my commitments. Please pray for my relationship with the Lord as well. I haven’t been as committed to my quiet times because of my crazy schedule. Thank you so much for your support and prayers!

I would be happy to pray for you as you finish your school year. My name is Carrie and I’m a 32 year old happily married mom of two from Indiana. I work full time and understand the struggle of balance. You’re balancing work and school and trying to find a quiet time and I’m balancing work and kiddos/home and trying to have a quiet time too! I’ll pray that you find time to accomplish all you need and the peace to see the Lord in it all!

    Allison says:

Hi ladies! My name is Allison, I’m 27, and from the Springfield, MO area. I am SO encouraged by the idea of being kept in your prayers! I’m a mom to a beautiful almost 1 year old, a wife to an amazing man of God, and a part-time professional who works with very young children with developmental delays. I have been feeling “antsy” to fulfill the Lord’s calling in my life. I know He gave me a heart to honor Him in my roles as a mom, wife, and professional, but He has also given me such a heart for women! My husband has a ministry idea on his heart that would honor the Lord SO much, but would mean him being away from our family for long periods of time. I would love prayers for boldness in trusting God’s plan for my family’s life as well as clear opportunities to serve the Lord (and be satisfied) in whatever opportunities He brings my way. Thank you!!!!

      Diane, Houston TX says:

      Hi Allison,
I’m sure that the Lord is blessed by your heart to serve Him wherever He places you, whether at home or with women one day in the future. I will pray for you these next few weeks that He will satisfy your heart in the daily routine as well as reveal opportunities with people that He brings your way. I will also join you as you and your husband pray about the ministry idea he has.
May your heart be light and expectant and full of hope as you trust in Him!
I have two daughters near your age and one of the things we talk about frequently is to not “unwrap” your future; let Him “unfold” it for you in His timing. He’s faithful and He will do it!
      Many blessings,
      Diane

      • Allison says:

Thank you so much Diane for your prayers and words of wisdom! I LOVE the saying about letting God unfold my future in His timing. I KNOW He is faithful and His plans are so much better than mine! Your daughters are blessed to have you as their mom. Thanks again!

    Pray

Good morning ! What a good morning it is because this blog post was so what The Lord knew I needed to read . My name is Grace. I am a 22 year old young mother and wife . I have a 10 month old daughter who is the biggest blessing. My marriage did not start out on the right foot nor has it been a strong one. Satan has thrown a lot our way that is for sure. My husband has struggled w the stronghold of addiction and it has been trying to destroy my family since the day we got married. The Lord is so full of grace and mercy though. One day he came home and told me he wanted to become a Marine for his family and that he did . He is now a Marine and providing for his family again. Praise the Lord. My struggles right now that I need prayer for though is not to have a cold heart for all that I have been through but to have a heart of mercy and most importantly hope . Because when The Lord is involved we should always have hope. I’m just feeling lost in the place I’m at in my life . I need someone to relate to me , to not feel so alone . There are not many or any 22 year old christian married moms that I know and I just need some fellowship badly. So if you could pray for hope and some godly women that can relate or guide me I would really appreciate it. I have not asked for prayer in a long time but this post has really lead me to realize I can not do it alone. Thanks sisters 🙂

    Hi,
My name is Emily and I’m 26 years old. God has done a radical work in my life and continues to drawn me closer to Himself everyday. I used to live a life of legalism and serving out of fear and He has shown me that it is through love that I come to know Him intimately. I will be attending graduate school in the fall for clinical counseling and have recently lost quite a bit of weight. I am fearful of regaining the weight and slipping back into old habits. Thankful for all of you prayer warriors out there!! Much Love!

    Jaclyn Sugg says:

Hi! My name is Jaclyn Sugg. I am 22 years old and I am a full time student at the University of Texas at Arlington (close to Dallas). I am studying accounting and excited to see how God is going to use that for His Kingdom!

Recently, He has been faithful to show me what I should do for the summer. I am going to be taking summer classes, helping with starting a coffee shop at my college, and starting a chapter group in Dallas for a ministry based in Colorado.

In addition to what He has already revealed to me, I would like to go somewhere where I could see extreme poverty. I have read a couple books over the past year involving Uganda and would like to be able to go and be Christ’s hands and feet and physically help the poor and destitute instead of just reading about it. Earlier, I didn’t think it would be possible for me to be able to do anything like that, but since then, Jesus has changed my plans…as He often does. 🙂 With the summer quickly approaching, I am praying that God would provide a good trip for me to go on and the money to get there. I know He is SO faithful and that if He wants me to do that He will provide a way.

As far as school is concerned, I am praying that God would renew the passion within me to reach out to those around me AND give me great opportunities!! Last semester I tried and tried to reach out to people and became very discouraged when people did not reciprocate the friendship. In addition to that, I attended some Christian groups on campus, but the students were very “cliquey”. I attended regularly for months and finally left when I realized I had not made any friends. This semester I have become good friends with a Muslim girl (Soha) who is very interested in reading the Bible and a gay guy (Andreas). Andreas and I will be spending much of the summer and fall together taking classes and I am praying for opportunities to share Jesus with Him AND boldness! …sometimes I coward when I get opportunities to talk about Jesus. :/

    So, to sum it up:

    1. That God would show me a short term mission trip that I could be a part of and money for it.
    2. My passion for people at school.
    3. That I would make good Christian friends at school that would help me reach out to others.
    4. My friends Andreas and Soha.

Thank you VERY, VERY much for your prayers! I am excited to see what God is going to do!
And thank you as older sisters in Christ for being faithful to pray and love on us younger girls! We are grateful!

    –Jaclyn 🙂

Hi Jaclyn: I am 56 years old with a 13 year old daughter and an 18 year old son. I saw your post and it touched me on many levels. We attend a church outside of Atlanta where youth involvement is tops. My son is very connected, yet my daughter is still trying to feel comfortable there. Your comments reminded me of some things my daughter has said, although she is much younger than you. Also, you mentioned Uganda, which is where Katie Davis has started her non-profit (Amazima). Look up her book, “Kisses From Katie”. Yes, I will be praying for you — for a mission trip, to feel connected to Christian friends at school, for your new friends, and for your passion for people at school. We serve a big God — one who wants to get in a personal relationship with Him. The way to hear his voice is to get to know Him. Jesus said his sheep knew him and knew his voice. Make God the primary focus of every day and you will hear where God wants you to go, step by step. Love, Kristin

    Hello!

My name is Amelia and I am from Florida. I am a 22-year old college senior who is graduating in 3 weeks! I am also engaged to a wonderful man of God and will be getting married in August. However, this transition from college life to adult life (with wedding planning, looking for jobs, moving to a new city, learning what it means to be a godly wife, etc.) can be overwhelming and scary at times.

Please pray God would still my anxious heart and give me the wisdom, discernment and strength to be obedient to him in all things and to not let the many distractions and worries of this world steal my attention away from serving the Lord with all that I am. Also, please pray that God would bless my upcoming marriage and that my soon-to-be husband and I would grow more and more in love with each other and with our Savior.

    Thank you so much!

Hi there!! My name is Ashley, I’m 25, and I live in the Portland, OR area

I am so excited to see this post, how perfectly timed it is as I will be seeing Beth in Eugene tomorrow & Saturday!!

God is lining up very powerful things in my life, and it’s assisting me to grow at a very accelerated rate. 3 weeks after I see Beth in Eugene, I will be flying to Kenya for 10 days to serve the orphans and the widows in the name of Jesus.

I love these sections from Beth’s post, ” I’m certainly not suggesting we be less informed. Uninformed Christians can be a waste of light in the darkness. What I’m suggesting is that, if you want to keep a warm, feeling heart, you better be prepared to fight like mad for it.”
    and
“*You have to realize that guarding your heart means guarding its willingness to love and be exposed out there where it can get wronged or wounded.”

      Hi Debbie,

My name is Barbara. I am from dry West Texas. Oh what a exciting time in your life. I am so thankful you are desiring to seek after Jesus with all your heart. It is a great honor to pray for you. I am praying for God to give you a hunger and thirst for HIS righteousness. To guard your heart from the fiery darts of the evil one and give you discernment and strength to recognize temptation and run from it. Lord Jesus keep this sweet girl’s heart pure for you! I will be praying boldly for you each day! The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Kelley Coke from Odessa, TX – –

I am 25 yrs old – i live in windy west texas, graduated from the University of Alabama (insert roll tide here!!!) I am blessed with the opportunity to hang out with my siblings and their spouses, nieces, and my parents on a daily basis.

My biggest fear is being ordinary and not being used for Gods Kingdom. I feel very ordinary with my daily routine lately. I have a not so cool job, that doesn’t keep me busy, and isn’t at all what i went to school for. I am still single and looking for Mr. Right, and i’m unsure where my future is taking me.

I really desire to do Gods will and to be used greatly.

I appreciate your prayers and my sister in law who directed me to this blog and this amazing opportunity.

    Love from Texas. -Kelley

      Kelley,
Sounds like you are fertile ground for a mighty work of our Mighty God! Sometimes God uses the ordinary times in our lives to prepare us for what He has planned. We know He’s always up to something! I will love praying for you for the next two weeks. God loves you so much.

I will be praying for you! David in the Bible was ordinary. Actually he was the least of his brothers and look how God used him. He prefers a servant heart over a heart of self seeking and pride. I pray that you will find joy in letting God use you for his kingdom and purpose. Even if your job is ordinary God can use you right where you are so that he might be Glorified. It’s all for him! Be all for him!

    Samantha says:

My name is Samantha, I’m 21 and a junior at Mount Holyoke College. I’m at a place right now where God is doing a lot of healing in my heart and a lot of work in me. I would really appreciate prayers for guidance from God and for the upcoming week, Final exams week. I also resonated with this post from Beth Moore, I catch myself sometimes not having a fiery heart for God and when I realize it, I immediately turn back to him and ask him to put that fire in my heart again. I want to freed from cycles of things I know don’t please God. I want to be able to feel his presence more and to do what he wants me to do with my life. I want a pure heart for God.
Like I said, I’m a junior and even though I have a year left of college, I’m not sure yet where God wants me to go after college and what he wants me to do. I want his will to be done but I also want to know clearly what that is so I can follow it. Prayer for courage to do his will would also be great.
Thank-you so much for praying! May God bless you and Living Proof Ministries!

Hi Samantha, I’m Joy and I’m 37 and still searching for what God wants me to do with my life. NO!! Don’t get discouraged at that. I’ve just learned that His path is not always straightforward but it is good. I’ve had hard times, and boring times and times when hope seemed on short supply but He was proving Himself unshakeably faithful and making me strong. I was so excited to hear you say that God is healing and shaping you and you are responding to Him. Best thing you could possibly do.

Heavenly Papa, please bless Samantha. Please continue the beautiful healing you have begun in her heart. Shape her into the woman you designed her to be from the beginning of time. Show her the next step in her life and allow her to be so aware of Your presence; that You hold her by the hand. She is never, never alone. Give her rest and energy for her finals. Please inspire her as she writes her papers and bring back to her mind all that she has learned this quarter. Give her favor and influence with those around her and the courage to use this for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

    Katie Rider says:

Hi! My name is Katie and I am a single 25-year-old woman living in Atlanta, Georgia.

I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in counseling and will be starting my clinical internship at an eating disorder treatment center in two weeks! Having struggled for thirteen years myself with anorexia, I am in awe that the Lord would see fit to use me in the lives of other young women who are struggling with similar issues. On the other hand, I am terrified of failing Him in this calling!

Following completion of my master’s degree, I hope to pursue my PhD in counseling psychology and, eventually, to teach at college level in addition to doing clinical work.

Ultimately, I would also love to become married and have a family and am praying that the Lord will save a godly man for me. I have also been praying that the Lord will make me into a woman who is equipped to serve Him in the roles of wife and mother.

I can’t thank you enough for this post and for any prayers offered in response. For me, it has proven quite timely.

    Blessings,

    Katie

Hi, my name is Danielle and I live in Southern California. I’m 29 and I’ve been married to the most amazing man for 9 years. Two years ago I developed a nerve disease called CRPS, which causes constant pain and has spread to both of my feet and my left hand and arm. It’s changed our life drastically, but I’m so thankful for my husband who adores me and takes care of me. Through everything, God has been so good to us and has used this affliction to draw us closer to Him. I just want to love God with all that I am and show His strength through my weakness.

I also pray that you are able to take some time of rest after all the hard work you have put in.

    Rachel says:

Hi Ladies! My name is Rachel, I am 24 years old and work full time in an office as an assistant. I grew up in a Christian home and was taught to love and serve Christ with my life. It was in College that I walked away from the one who Created me for the empty pleasures of this world. I was imprisoned by my sin and seemed to sink deeper as time went by. It is by God’s Grace that I am where I am today. He has healed me and has used my story in ways I never thought possible. I am so very thankful for my Jesus and the undeserving love He continues to show me. More than ever I desire to know Him for who He truly is: the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Moses. The Great I Am. I want my heart to burn with such love for Him that it is impossible not to see Christ in my very eyes. My desire is to want nothing more than to look forward to seeing His face and anticipating His return. Unfortunately, my life tends to be centered around myself rather than my God. My prayer is that I will bring Him glory with my life. My God has already won the War, but no longer do I want to allow the enemy to win anymore battles in my life. Thank you so much for the prayers. I love that we can come together as family through Christ to pray for one another! Please feel free to leave a request in the your reply so that I can pray for you as well. 🙂

However in order to student teach in the fall I will have to quit my current full time job. Please pray God finds a way to enable me to student teach. Also I have been fighting for my complete marriage restoration for over 2 years. Very early on during our troubles God placed it on my heart to fight and He would restore it all. One of my deepest desires is to start a family and I know God is the only one who can make this happen. Please pray that God sends Dan home soon and we start our life together with God as the foundation. Thank you so much!

I pray Dan’t heart would be open to your love, desire to be his wife, and the submission to God’s will. I pray Dan would see Jesus in you and desire to become the husband God has planned for him. God always has your best in His heart and I pray you both see and feel that as you walk together into the future He has planned and purposed for you as a couple and family. I pray doors would open that would enable you to continue your education to become a teacher and He would provide for your needs each step of the way. Beth says:

Strangely, this is my first time visiting Beth Moore’s blog and I came upon the post. Jesus must want me to have more prayer!

I’m 21 years young and a business student in Arizona. Being at a large public university, in a sorority and involved in the lucrative business world I am in continual need for prayers. First off, I need discipline in my devotion to prayer, dwelling in The Word and truly, truly trusting the Lord.

2012 was a HUGE year for my relationship with Christ as I began to notice answered prayers and true faith. This year I got very involved in my local congregation, lead Sunday school and a bible study in my sorority. I also am signed up to go on a mission trip to Berlin in the summer.

Right now I need prayer for Berlin. As it is my fist mission trip I need the Lord to continue to build my strength and boldness and to allow me to trust the Holy Spirit when I am Abroad. Additionally, I need prayer to help me not dwell in my singleness and trust that in this time I need to devote my time for Christ. As much as I try to trust the Lord it’s hard for me to continue to see more friends and ex boyfriends in relationships without getting sad. I definitely need prayer for patience and trusting Jesus in this aspect!

I pray that you will grow in the Word, and that your relationship with Jesus will blossom so much that others will see your joy, peace and trust, and marvel at His greatness!!!

I am from Omaha, Nebraska, I am 25 years old and this post really hit home for me. I know that I have not been guarding my heart and have done things in the past that I am not proud of (who hasn’t). I know God has forgiven me for my past, and I am moving on and becoming the woman God wants me to be. Recently I have gotten more into the Word which has been so wonderful! I feel like I need to be doing more, sharing my faith more, being more on fire for the LORD. The only thing is I am shy, introverted person, and tend to only share my faith with those who already know Jesus. My prayer (and if you could please pray for me) is that God would put it on my heart or show me who need to hear the good news and that I would actually do it. I know He is calling me to do more, but I sometimes struggle with how people might receive what I have to say or how they will think or react, or not knowing what to say to them.

Thank you for all of your prayers! God bless!

I also can relate to the not guarding your heart, I have been challenged with that a lot lately and God has really been keeping that in the forefront of my mind. Hello! I’m Katie, I’m 24, and I live in Colorado. I got married almost three years ago. About a year into our marriage, my husband was diagnosed with a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease. That has added a really big strain on our marriage. We didn’t have the best role models for marriage, my parents hate each other and are still married while his hate each other and are divorced.

I think that our marriage has just become cold, I know we loved each other a lot when we got married. I am still trying to figure out who I am while trying to learn what it means to be submissive (I am very independent). I would ask for prayer for my heart. That God would heal all the parts that hurt, and protect and guide my path as I pursue what I feel called to do, go onto nursing school (which just adds one more strain on our marriage). Thank you for your prayers and support.

I can only imagine how much more difficult it must be so early in a marriage. Please know I am keeping you and your husband and your marriage close to my heart, asking the Lord daily to give you both the strength to endure the trials as well as the hope that can only come from knowing Him. Trust fully that the Lord can, and will, bring your heart to full healing from the hurts and disappointments of this life on earth. Don’t give up!

May the Song of Songs become your love song to one another. May He give you clear direction for your path in nursing and help you to be the woman HE created you to become and be! Dear Abi,

I’m an introvert too and I think I know your struggle. As I’ve gotten a tad older (I’m 32) I’ve come to recognize that God wires us differently for different kinds of speaking- I am praying that God will give you opportunity to speak boldly and the courage to know when to say and what to say. I’d also like to encourage you not to compare yourself with others. I have a younger brother who is gifted to speak very boldly (and in front of large groups of people!!!) about Jesus. I so admire that in him.

God works something different in me, creating friendships with people who are not in Christian circles, bringing up conversations, questions, etc. It still requires boldness, prayer, effort, practice and obedience- but sometimes it is more of a boldness of heart and less of a boldness in the tone of my voice.
I hope that makes sense and encourages you.

Pray for opportunity- it will come! Dear Abi, you are loved by Jesus so much! He sees your heart. He knows.

      I’m praying for you.

    Melissa says:

I’m Melissa, a 29 year old divorcee. I’ve never introduced myself that way before, but its how I introduce myself in my head whenever I meet someone. I am heavily involved in my church, in leadership in many capacities and love the Lord deeply, but I feel like both in the church and in the eyes of many I am marred by a scarlet D. I feel this makes me less useful to God and the Church and that it makes me unworthy of marrying again, despite reassurances that my divorce was acceptable Biblically.

Now, all of that being said, I love my life. I have literally never been happier, as odd as that may sound given what I just said. I have an incredible (and I mean incredible) church family, wonderful friends and a loving family. I am so richly blessed and feel it daily. I am honored that God would choose to save me, then rescue me from the pit I ran to, then use me in even a larger way. His math makes no sense to me but I praise Him for that!

So, I guess what you could pray for would be this: true, deep and complete healing from the death of my marriage, contentment in.where I am in life right this moment and for me to be disciplined and humble. My hearts desire is less of me and more of Him.

      Hi Melissa!
I’m Jill and would love to pray for you. I’m 35, married and have two crazy kids. Your last sentence connected me to your comment because I’ve prayed that often.
I’ve never been divorced, but at my age, I’m seeing it more and more. And I FULLY believe God can and will restore you. Jesus’ death covers it all, and I know for a fact that satan loves nothing more than to tear you down so he can tear down any ministry you have. You are more than a conquerer so keep going! You are prayed for and loved in Arkansas…

      Annie says:

      Melissa,
Your post spoke to me! I am praying for you. Praying for healing, that you will not feel guilty or have those “what if” thoughts. I too divorced my husband, at the age of 26. I did have biblical grounds, but I can tell you that didn’t stop Satan from messing with my mind. I felt ashamed and like a failure. Those thoughts are not from The Lord. I admire your heart and your devotion! Praying He will just shine through you. He loves you dearly!!
Your divorce does not define you. The Lord used my situation to help others, and I am praying He will do the same for you. It was after I went through that The Lord showed me that He was and is my true love. Praying that for you.
I am now in my 30’s and have remarried. I am happy! Sometimes my mind goes to that place of shame, but I remember God’s grace. My past helped define God’s grace. Praying for you sweet sister!!!
A friend gave me this verse during my divorce, and I still think of it often.
      Philippians 4:8

    Hilary F. says:

Hi there! My name is Hilary Flook, I’m from Flagstaff, AZ, and I am 21 years old. I graduated from Northern Arizona University in December of 2011, and am currently attending Calvary Chapel Bible College (and, this semester, have been attending the campus in New Zealand). For quite some time now God has been working in me a heart for missions, for ministry, for worship, and for young people, and I feel the Lord calling me back to another semester in New Zealand in the fall. Though, ultimately, I hope to someday be a godly wife and mother, my greatest desire is that God would use my life for His glory and His purposes, whatever that may look like. I could really use prayer in 1) surrendering my life and my plans to the Lord, 2) trusting that He knows my best better than I do (and, thus, that I can rest and wait patiently in His promises, and 3) that the Lord would guide and direct my steps (and, in that, I would be boldly and unreservedly obedient to His voice). Thank you so much for your prayers–they mean more to me than you may ever know! 🙂

Dear Hilary, Consider your prayers lifted to the throne room of our Most High God. He edlights in your desire to give Him all the glory in each situation. He will answer according to His plans and purposes which you desire to follow. It is such a privlige and blessing to intercede on your behalf knowing full well He has been, is and will be working it all out each step of the way! God bless you and keep you safe spiritually, mentally and physically while you serve Him daily-moment by moment!

    Meggan says:

My name is Meggan and I am a Stay-at-Home mom to my two beautiful children. The last year has been the hardest of my life… The birth of my second child, a stunning revelation about my marriage, and deep financial problems because my husband has lost two jobs and is severely underemployed. I feel like God is asking me to stay the course, but I feel beat-down and I desperately want that on-fire-for Christ feeling again. I want my experiences to be a testimony to others, but I feel so incredibly broken sometimes. I want to have a love for Christ that is so deep, that the things of this world do not phase me. Thank you for your prayers.

Isaiah 41:13 “I am the LORD, your God, who takes a hold of your right hand and says to you: Do not fear;I will help you.” and for your husband, that the Lord would establish the works of his hands and make is efforts successful. Hi Aroha, my name is Eva and I will gladly be praying for you in the following weeks and beyond! My son studied abroad in NZ last Feb – July at Univ. or Otago and LOVED every minute of it! I think NZ might be THE most beautiful place on Earth:) Anyway, I will be praying for you as you seek Jesus; for God to surround you with godly people to help you, encourage you, pray for you, listen to you, and whatever else to help you on your faith journey. Delve into Beth’s Bible Studies, devotionals, quick Word from the Word on her website, etc. as time allows. Listen to podcasts, Christian radio, find a loving church to attend, and pray that He will give you the desires of your heart as you follow Him. Specifically, I will pray for courage and strength to fight for His Love. May God bless you now and in the days to come.

Hi Aroha, I saw you were from New Zealand and since I have two daughters in Bible College there in Rotorua, AND, recently visited your beautiful country with my husband, I was immediately drawn to pray for you! I am married and have 4 daughters who are all in their twenties, so I know the great challenges you face firsthand. I will pray that you have courage, boldness, and strength to love and follow Jesus more each day! God is with you always, and He is leading you toward Him with His great, unimaginable love. Praying!

    Brandy, Roseburg.

I’ve been married for 6 1/2 years to my best friend and we have 2 wonderful little kids. (My son is 3 1/2 and my daughter is 9 months). I sure would love some extra prayer. My husband has just been accepted to be a Chaplin in the Army and will soon be leaving for training. This is going to be a very difficult time for us. On top of that, I have been really angry lately and don’t know why. I really feel like I’m in a spiritual battle…and I’m losing. God has been so good to me and my family, we are so blessed, I have no reason to be so irritable.

My name is Regina and I am a 4th grade teacher from California. I will be praying that GOD will give you the strength and patience to handle life while your husband is away. Thank him for his service for me (and thank you and your entire family as well!).

I can relate to being angry and not knowing why. = ) I will absolutely pray that GOD will give you clarity of mind, a peaceful spirit, and strength to endure.

      GOD bless you, sister!

      AnnaMarie says:

Brandy, I’m AnnaMarie from Pittsburgh and it is my privilege to cover you in prayer for the next two weeks and beyond. Dear heart, moms of wonderful kids get irritable sometimes and the prospect of acting as a single parent while your husband is gone for training can make you feel angry and fearful too. Know that God is for you, not against you. The battle is the Lord’s and it has all ready been won. The enemy is trying to tell you differently but don’t you believe it! Praying for God’s grace, protection and provision for you and your family during this time. Praying for a renewed sense of His presence and peace in your life and strength and wisdom for the days to come. You are not alone.

    Janet Sewell says:

Hi my name is Janet, I’m 29 and I grew up in Iceland.

For the last 9 years I’ve been living in Greece as a missionary. As my 20’s are coming to an end, there are major transitions in my life. I am radically changing the focus of my ministry from being in Greece to internationally and online. My vision is to do apologetics on the internet through videos, blogs, and articles.

As I move forward please pray for wisdom, a pure heart, the gift of discernment, creativity, and that my passion for the Lord will keep growing. He’s given me an incredible journey in my 20’s and I want the rest of my life to build upon that, that is, I want to be more passionate in my 60’s and 70’s than I ever was in my 20’s! And my ultimate prayer is “Here am I Lord, send me!”

Thank you all for your wonderful ministry to us!

    May the Lord bless you!

Hi Janet, I’m 62. I love your desire to be more passionate when you reach my age than you are now. That is exciting!! What a privilege to pray for you.
I am an online GMO missionary. May God carry your vision of apologetics through to fruition and may thousands, hundreds of thousands of young people learn why they believe, and how to defend their faith. May you hear his voice and obey each step, trusting and knowing that he is guiding you along his perfect plan for you. (I think I wrote too much.) Just can’t keep it in…God’s love is so immense. He is enough.

      Jennifer Nahrstadt says:

Janet, what courage it takes to step out and follow God wherever He leads, and to continue to do so over the course of your life.

I too am in a place of transition, and that’s why your comment struck me. I believe that He has put in all our hearts to live lives of significance on His behalf. As a mom to a high school senior, I’m about to be an empty nester, so I’m working to understand what God would have me to do with the days ahead.

I have a passion for those in missions, and I will pray for you for the next 14 days as you have requested. A hymn that has spoken to me lately is “All the Way My Savior Leads Me”.Google it to find the words.

go forward boldly, janet! the Father loves your heart and vision!

Janet, Hi my name is Becky and I am 44 years old. I live in the United States. I live in a small town in midwest Missouri names Bolivar. I love the Lord and it is my greatest pleasure and passion in life to intercede! Thank you for the chance to pray for you. I commit to do so for the next 2 weeks but as God is oft to do– will probably keep you on my heart for years to come.:) I was drawn to your post because of the statement “Here I am, Send Me.” This has been the cry of my heart for 15 years and what a journey it’s been! I pray for clear direction for you~ One of my favorite scriptures is ” He goes before me and behind.. He hems me in.” Also, that he would walk behind you and whisper “go to the left” or “go to the right” and you will hear. He is great and mighty and has “laid his hand upon your head” ~ May these be so and may you enjoy the absolute richness of life with him and HIS adventure! In prayer for you, Becky Myers
