For You in Your 20’s and You Who Will Pray For Them

**UPDATE: We are just so happy to have all of you 20-somethings flock to requesting prayer! Our faithful God surely hears, and cares to His core! If you do not see a specific partner reply to your request, know that the LPM Staff have adopted you. We will pray for each of you, joyfully!

One of my favorite things about Twitter is that we can come to really love someone we wouldn’t have even known to like. Someone from an entirely different part of the country or the planet. Someone from a totally different tradition of our faith. Someone in another generation who serves God in a way that is fresh and exhilarating to us. I have a whole mental list of those and just this morning prayed for a number of young women that I’ve gotten to “know” there on that ridiculous stream of social media that I love. It is a young man that I’ve come to appreciate so much, however, that prompted this post. His name is Jefferson Bethke. I didn’t know anything about him until 6 months ago when Melissa, my youngest daughter, told me she enjoyed following him on Twitter. He is a great communicator God clearly has His hand upon and a poet who creates fantastic thought-provoking videos. I’m glad to have the privilege to tell you about him but that’s not why I’m bringing him up today. A week or so ago on Twitter he mentioned sitting on the airplane, moved with emotion over various testimonies he’d been reading of lives dramatically changed by Jesus Christ. It hit me right then that one of the things I loved best about him is that the young man simply has a pure heart. He just flat-out loves Jesus and loves people. It’s consistent in everything he says and writes. I felt an urgency right that moment to ask God to protect that holy passion and sustain it the length of his days.

And that’s when I thought of all of you in his same generation who really do want to honor God and fulfill the purpose for which He planted your feet on this earth.

Here’s what I want to say to you: you really can maintain a pure and fiery heart toward Christ and His mission on earth but make no mistake: you will not do it by accident.

If you want a pure heart, you better be willing to fight for it. You will not keep it any other way.

The first big relief is that we can’t conjure one up on our own. God alone can create in us a pure heart and renew a right spirit within us. (Psalm 51:10) He alone can set it ablaze with holy passion. But out of God’s sovereign wisdom, He determined that guarding the heart He formed and lit within us would, in many ways, fall to us. We’re to own part of that job.

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

Our second huge relief is that we can have a pure heart whether or not we have a pure past. Thank You, Jesus. If not, I and many others would be stuck for a lifetime with dark distorted hearts and deformed desires.

There are many other things more effective voices could tell you about guarding your heart toward Christ, toward people He’s sent you to serve and toward His mission on this planet. Ask them and learn from them. My purpose today is to pitch into the mix a couple of things that I’ve learned – and keep learning – in case any of it resonates with you. I also want to pray for you and call others to do the same. Here goes:

*Your heart will cool off if you do nothing to guard it. Jesus warned us in the 24th chapter of Matthew that “because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” (V.12) We’re exposed to so much suffering and violence, pain, pretense, and wrongdoing in the world that, even as a defense against feeling so much, we’ll naturally thicken up. I’m certainly not suggesting we be less informed. Uninformed Christians can be a waste of light in the darkness. What I’m suggesting is that, if you want to keep a warm, feeling heart, you better be prepared to fight like mad for it.

*Over time, you can get really cynical. For one thing, cynicism can be really funny so we get drawn to it. It also tends to be cooler. You have to be willing to be one of those that the cynics could make fun of.

*You have to realize that guarding your heart means guarding its willingness to love and be exposed out there where it can get wronged or wounded. A couple of years ago I was researching God’s self-disclosure in Exodus 34:5-7 and stumbled onto something that totally changed the way I looked at guarding my heart. Here’s the segment so you can see it for yourself:

5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love…

See that word “maintaining”? It is a form of the same Hebrew term used in Proverbs 4:23  for “guarding” our hearts. In other words, a huge part of guarding my heart is maintaining love. It was a total game changer for me because somehow I had associated guarding my heart with keeping it sheltered. Try to fathom that God actively maintains His love toward us. He guards it. Using that same concept, He calls us to maintain our love toward other people. If I want to stay in love with my husband, for instance, I better actively practice maintaining it because, left to its nature, it will grow cold.

One of the things that God keeps teaching me to do is pray with everything in me and on an ongoing basis to love Jesus more than anything I can see or touch in this human realm. He promises in Scripture to grant us everything we pray in His will and in His name. (1 John 5:14-15)  Since His greatest command was that we love (Mark 12:30-31), you can pray for it with absolute confidence that He’s going to do it. In fact, every time you ask God for it, go ahead and thank Him in advance that He’s going to accomplish it. He will. Then when He starts doing it, you start guarding it with all your might.

Ask Him continually to stir fire in your bones for His Word and for His mission. Ask Him to sustain it in you and teach you how to guard it through every inch of your lifespan. Only put up with a sense of spiritual flatness for a matter of days. That’s completely normal. But when it begins to turn into weeks, go face-down on that floor and ask God to give you insight into what seems off and to revive your heart. Don’t just accept coldness. Fight for love.

What is it you want from God? Pray for it feverishly! “Pursue love and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts.” That’s what 1 Corinthians 14:1 says.

Also ask others to pray these things over you. That’s what I am hoping this blog post will be about today.

Here’s what I’m asking all of you to do if you’re willing:

*Those of you in your 20’s, tell us at least your first name, where you’re from, and a little bit about you in a comment so that we can personalize our intercessions for you.

*The rest of you choose one of them to pray for (or two, if you have the time), let them know in a reply under their comment that you are adopting them for intercession for the next 14 days. Tell them where you’re from as well. I think they’ll like knowing that, too. As long as every 20-something gets signed-up for, it doesn’t matter if a number of you are praying for the same individual. If they’re like us, they’d be ecstatic to have the extra prayer covering. Pray as you feel led by God but, within that intercession, pray particularly for God to stir up and sustain a holy passion in them for Himself, His mission, and for people on this planet, and that they will be alert and proactive in guarding their hearts to last a lifetime. Ask God forthrightly to deliver them from any area of bondage, strengthen them in temptation, and deliver them from evil. Love them with all your might through prayer.

Let’s partner with this generation and intercede powerfully for them. They are the rising future of the church of Jesus Christ at this tumultuous time on the Kingdom calendar. Let’s pray them out there.

Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you, and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.  1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 ESV

PS. To our regular blog community: I put this in a comment but I’m afraid many of you may not see it.

I am grateful beyond expression for your participation on this post. Please move at the same pace that you see our 20-somethings sign up. In other words, if at our first moderation there are 15 of them, see that all 15 are spoken for then, instead of doubling and tripling up on the same small group, watch for others to be posted and claim those. Assume in about 48 hours that we’ll probably have around 80% of the 20-somethings that will end up participating. Still, check every couple of days for about a week to make sure everybody gets covered if you don’t mind. Sisters, this woman right here KNOWS how powerfully you pray. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it. You are solid gold in the Kingdom of God! Pray for these young people like you’d want somebody to pray for your own children, whether or not you have any. Take them on as blood. Pray with faith and holy fire. Pray like the near future of the church depends on Jesus revealing Himself through them. They are so worth it. JESUS is so worth it.

I love you guys madly.

Beth

Hey there!! My name is Melissa and I am 22 years old and am from Georgia. I am finishing my undergraduate degree in history this Summer and will be starting my masters degree in European History at Liberty University in the Fall. I am so excited to see what God has in store for me the next few years. My sister and I will be moving away from home and that always comes with big transitions for my whole family as we are very close to each other. I pray for peace and a smooth transition as we move and get established in Virginia.

Also please pray for my spiritual walk. I so desire to go deeper and really be on fire for the Lord. I do not want to become complacent in my relationship with God. I don’t want my love to grow cold for the Lord and I pray that I will be actively fighting for and maintaining a pure heart! This post was definitely something I needed to hear. I truly appreciate your prayers!

      Hi Melissa!
My name is Beth, and I live in Robinson, Texas. I’m forty years old, have been married for 18 years, and we have two teenagers. Although we are in different phases in life, I desire exactly what you do in my walk with Christ. I consider it an honor to pray for you! I will lift you up constantly, and I will pray for your smooth transition to Virginia.
Blessings to you, dear sister in Christ!

      Hi Melissa,

I am from Georgia. I would love to pray for you! God is good and will be you with during this transition. The scripture I am meditating on right now is Psalm 28:7, The Lord is my strength and shield, my heart trusts in him and helps me…. I will pray this scripture over you for the next two weeks. 🙂

You are going to love Liberty! It is so beautiful there!

    Allie says:

Hi all! What a beautiful expression of the body this is! Thank you all so much!

My name is Allie. I’m 25 and I live in Robbinsdale, MN. I recently starting working at Starbucks again after a year and a half hiatus. During my time away I worked in a temp job with very little room for growth and realized that God was calling me back into coffee shop life to see how He can grow a ministry there. I know that one day I will have my own place, but for now as a recent college grad with student debt and no managerial experience I’m hoping to work my way up through Starbucks and learn all that I can. I feel God blessing my obedience in this job as I’ve been working for a month and am preparing already to step into a supervising position – starting Monday! There is so much excitement mixed with so much nervousness. My prayer is that I would be a positive influence in this work environment where the way to be welcomed into the group is to hear the dirt on all your co-workers.

My hope for this store, and others like it, would be one where we build one another up in both our work and personal lives. I feel such a responsibility to be a leader in that, but am also uncertain how some of the veteran employees will react to “the new girl” coming in and rocking the boat. I love this work, and I know that God has a vision for my gifts and passions. But there are days when I struggle to see that. I am praying for continued joy in obedience. And for a fire and passion to really run after God in this time. I feel like I’ve been waking up in my life and I want to really LIVE it! I KNOW God’s goodness – I am living in freedom daily, but there are still fears and questions and worries that get in the way. Praise God that He gives us room to wonder and has the answer and the next step when we are ready for it!

Thank you so much for this opportunity to share and pray for each other! It is so humbling and fills me with awe at the Church God designed at the same time!

    Blessings,
    Allie

      Hi Allie,

I am 54 and I live in Auburndale, FL. I frequent a special Starbucks twice a day. So I really feel drawn to because I am also a professional. I love this Starbucks because everyone there is a Christian and so laid back. I know that God will give you the skills, the wisdom, grace, and the love that you need to do this job. It really is a ministry because everyday these people touch my life and I love it. I know that only through God you will succeed but it sounds like that you are meant to do this. There are a lot ministry opportunities with Starbucks world wide that you will be exposed to especially now that you are going to be put in a management role. God has big plans for you! How exciting! You are on your way sister and I am already praying for you. You are going to be getting kisses from the King through this job.

      All His Love,
      Tami

Hi everyone! I am 20 and am from Houston. I am so encouraged to see so many fellow 20-something’s with a desire to follow Christ! I am still searching for God’s will in my life, but feel that I have been called to children’s ministry. I just want to love them all! I am definitely struggling with that contagious cooling heart though. I thank you all so much for your prayers! 🙂

Colleen, I’m from San Marcos, Texas and I would be honored to pray for you. Being called to children’s ministry is a very precious thing and also requires a lot of patience. I have two little boys, 6 and 3, so I know your audience very well. I wish we were closer to you and your ministry because I find it very important to teach our children from an early age about God’s love and all the wonderful bible stories. My husband and I taught our 6 year old the Lord’s Prayer and he recited it next to me yesterday in church. My heart was very happy! I pray that God will use your calling to children’s ministry to be a blessing to Him and hundreds of children. God bless you!

    Amy says:

My name is Amy, I’m a 28-year mama of 2 living wih my in-laws in Georgia while my husband is deployed to Kuwait. We only have 2 months left of our 10+ month ordeal, but I can definitely use prayer! Living with my mother in law has been interesting, to say the least. I struggle with giving grace and love because 1. I didn’t grow up in a house that had those and 2. She seems to have a bitterness and anger about her that can drain and frustrate me like no other! Plus my two littles are 6(girl) and 3(BOY!) and are exhausting in their own right. I struggle so much with showing love, kindess, grace and patience. My prayer is definitely to have a renewed spirit and a love for Jesus that is overflowing from every fiber of my being. I get so wrapped up in wanting to go out and minister to the world, I forget that my family is where I am called to serve. I feel like I’m not doing enough to further the Kingdom because I see all these other moms of LOTS of kids doing amazing things and I can barely get my oldest to school on time…
Thank you so much for taking the time to lift me and my little family up. Please know that it is deeply appreciated.

I don’t have kiddos, I don’t currently have a mother in law (although I’ve had one before!), I don’t have a husband overseas and I live by myself with a greyhound… but I still feel like I can relate to your situation so acutely! It will be an honor to pray for you and your family, that the fruits of the spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness and self control – will just overwhelm you daily and pour out from your life. I’ll also be praying for your husband to come home safely and quickly!

    Well Hello!
My name is Lauren, I am 23 and recently graduated from Northwesr Nazarene University in good ol Idaho. I actually just got home from my bible study, James: Mercy Triumphs, which I am sharing with an amazing group of ladies! Beth, your bible studies have truly been a blessing in my life and through studying scripture along side of you, God has renewed a passion for His word in me. Our group has recently finished the Esther series and it was amazing to see women transform through the love of our Savior! Can I say praise The Lord?!

I would love prayer for some big decisions that have been put before me! I pray that I truly follow God’s will for my life and that I will glorify the Lord in which ever direction He takes me. I pray that doors will be shut if they do not align with His will. It is great to feel loved by your sisters in Christ! Thank you for praying for this generation.

      Hi Lauren,
I will be praying for you! Don’t we all wish that God would just shut the doors that He doesn’t want us walking through?? I’ll be praying for wisdom, guidance, strength, perseverance and love to get you through your decisions.
BTW- I did the James study last year and just fell in love with that book!

Hi! My name is Brittany and I’m 26 years old. I’m originally from the Boston area but currently live in San Diego. My husband and I both teach and work for a Christian school and church. In June, we will be moving back to the east coast to plant a church. My husband’s first words to me when we met in college in the midwest were “We’re going to have to get married then because I’m going to start a church in Boston.” That was 7 years ago and we feel that God has opened the doors for us to go in June. Please pray for us-our marriage, our faith, open doors, moving back near family with issues (and I mean issues!!)… I am so grateful for this. Thank you!

      Mary in NH says:

Hi Brittany! I live in southern NH, just north of Boston and would be happy to pray you guys back east! Usually I feel I’m praying for my Pastors – who have family and issues in some other part of the country, which is not easy! Since we’re blessed to have all our family close by, good and not so good as that sometimes is, I still see it as a blessing. The Boston area really does need bible-believing churches, especially churches that can reach out to the young adult age group. So many lost college students! God Bless!

    Jenna says:

Hello, I’m Jenna. I’m 22 and about to graduate from Colorado State University with a bachelors in Zoology. I feel called to reach out to those in the science community who otherwise often are forgotten. They are often really a tough bunch to witness to because of their strong faith in science, but God has been equipping me and already providing me with opportunities to reach out to my peers and teachers. I was hired on at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for the summer and I’m really excited to continue ministering to people there. I would especially love prayer for wisdom and courage in speaking with those who don’t believe in Christ, that I would really use the time I have left at CSU for God’s glory to reach those I’ve built relationships with these past 4 years and that I would be bold in my new workplace. Thanks Ladies for praying and thank you Beth for coming up with this! This past year my Bible study group has gone through the James and Daniel studies and they have been such a blessing!

      Jenna!
Your post jumped out at me for two reasons…first, I am married to a Physicist who loves the Lord with all of his heart. Being a part of the science community is tough but he, too, believes that they need Jesus and are constantly searching for the Truth.
Second, one of my daughters is crazy about animals and is just a year younger than yourself. I see her pursuing a career in this area. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo sounds amazing.
Prayers for wisdom and courage for you my dear! Keep studying His Word. It will keep your focus on Him and the lines of communication wide open between you and your Heavenly Father.
      Blessings!

Hi Jenna. My daughter, also a science major, and I will pray for you. I also have a science degree, and I agree with you that some scientists can be tough to reach, and are often forgotten. I am praying that God is giving you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, that you and those you witness to will know Him better, and that the eyes of their hearts will be enlightened, so they will know the hope to which He has called them… (Eph. 1:17-18). My co-worker has taught me a lot about lifestyle evangelism. He is always cheerful and kind, and prays for others, waiting to witness to them until they start asking him questions, which most of them do. God bless you!

I live in Denver, CO 🙂

Have just been cut from a professional program that I thought God’s hand was definitely over. And its been hard..because I am almost 30 and I am living in the tension of just being around the corner from it and.. you know, looking forward to the next stage of life but haven’t quite finished this one yet..and no one has written a guide book to how to get through your late 20’s… and it’s like…if its not this, then what is it? what has all this time spent toward this been about? He has provided a job–and praise Him for it–but just prayer for His guidance and peace in this time.

I really appreciate your prayers (anyone’s prayers!)–thank you so much!

    Sincerely,
    Kari

    Brittney says:

Hi there, my name is Brittney. I’m a sophomore Organizational Communication major at Northwest University in Seattle, Washington. I have a huge heart for ministry and worship, as well as the fight against human trafficking.

I am a songwriter and would love prayer for direction in what to do over these next few months as I begin to share my songs with those around me in hope of healing and ministering.

I am also staying here for the summer instead of going back home so I would like to find the perfect job to pay my rent. I come from a nonChristian home so I would love prayers for my family to be saved as well.

Lastly, God has been giving me opportunities to believe Him for really big things lately and its been a crazy journey to keep standing on things He’s promised me, so I would appreciate prayer in that area.

    Thank you so much!

Hi there and thank you so much for your prayer! My name is Jennifer, 25, from southwestern Missouri. My husband (27) of four years this June (7 total together) and I separated (for the first time ever) a month ago this Friday due to some ongoing issues that we’ve had for years. Neither one of us feel that it is irreparable, however, we desperately need help. We can’t seem to get through to one another. My husband has sincerely agreed to go to counseling with me at a new church that we’ve never been to before – their main focus is marriage. My prayer request is that through God and his vessels, we can truly learn how to have a marriage that HONORS GOD and lifts one another up. Also, for the past week in a half, I have felt God’s silence…and have realized that my fire and desire to constantly pursue after Jesus has lessened tremendously – perhaps because I’ve tried to keep myself busy and have not made my time with Him a priority. I want my heart to be ignited again! I know it should be so easy, all I need to do is pick up my ‘sword’/Bible and pray…but I’ve found that I’m dragging my feet to do so and I don’t understand why. There is no way I can contribute my part to making my marriage everything God intended it to be and be the woman He created me to be if I am not including Jesus in my everyday life. I’m praying that not just me, but my husband as well, will have our eyes, hearts, ears and mind completely tuned into Jesus – we’ve thrived together before like that, I know we can do it again. So, whoever you are, thank you for your time, your intercession and your obedience to God. Also, thank you Beth, for asking on behalf of all of us twenty somethings for prayer. It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.

Hi there! My name is Claudia. I’m 26 years old and I live in Castro Valley, CA. I’m a student at CSU East Bay in Hayward, studying Health Science. My dream is to help people live healthier and happier lives through investing in their own community, making healthier choices, and loving people.
I’m so blessed with an upcoming opportunity to travel to Honduras in September with my university. The organization is not faith-based, but I am so excited for this opportunity to minister to the communities in Honduras as well as the other students I will be traveling with.
God is teaching me so much about who I am and how He wants to use me in this life. It’s been a hard couple of years, but I am grateful for the LP women around the world and everyone else who God uses to bless me. Thank you for your prayers!

My name is Jessica and I’m 24 years old. My husband and I have been married for two years and love it. I graduated from Northwest University in 2010 with a BA in Children’s Ministries and serve as the Children’s Pastor at our church in Kenmore, WA. It’s interesting- I invest my life telling kids that God has an amazing plan for their life but sometimes I forget that He has the same in store for me! I struggle with self confidence. People see strengths in me that I don’t see. I want to do what God wants me to do and I don’t want fear to get in my way!

Once I am married, I will move to Salt Lake City where my fiancé is working with a College ministry at the university of Utah. Pray for the ministry there as it is very hard to minister to a student group on such a predominately Mormon community.

      Dear Olga,
I will be praying hard for you, your fiance, and his ministry. My name is Karen and I am in The Salt Lake City area, actually Sandy, just south of SLC. There are many Christians in this area and God is opening up many avenues of ministry. Sometimes you might feel you are drowning in a dominate culture, but we are here to love and support each other!

I get strength from Christian music, so let me share some words from Building 429’s, We Won’t Be Shaken.”Whatever comes our way, through fire or pouring rain, we won’t be shaken, whatever tomorrow brings, together we’ll rise and sing, that we won’t be shaken.”

I will pray everyday for you, your marriage and your new life in SLC. God loves you so much. The walk with Him is awesome! Enjoy every minute of it.

Hi, Erin! My name is Tracy and I’m 35 with 2 beautiful little girls as well (ages 3 and 5). I totally understand and relate with how you’re feeling! It is very hard to juggle all of our mom responsibilities while maintaining our relationship/ time with God and trying to be a good wife all at the same time. I know for a fact I can’t do it on my own, so I often think of the verse=”I can do all things through Christ who stengthens me.” Phil 4:13. I will definitely be praying for you, sister!! =)

    Kerry says:

Hello 🙂 My name is Kerry and I live in Baltimore, but am from Northern Virginia. I really need this prayer because I find myself surrounded by temptation. I know the evil one is working very hard to stop me from doing what’s right and follow his path. I’m tempted by a number of things: the rich and famous lifestyle, alcohol (in excess), drugs, flirtatious behavior, pornography, and what seems and feels like every wrong act or behavior in the book!!!

I’d also love for someone to pray that God shows me my calling. What I’m meant to do to glorify Him. Right now my life feels like wake up, work, home to do chores, feed family, and go to bed. While work is necessary to put a roof over my head and help provide for the family I feel as though I’m meant to be doing something more. More service.

    Thank you in advance 🙂

    Christina says:

Hi my name is Christina. I am 23 and I have been a youth director for high school and middle school students for the past 2 years. I am about to go to Southeast Asia for 3 months to serve and love those who have never heard the gospel. I want to love Jesus more than I love my life, my comforts amd my security. I want to see the cost of following Jesus and be all the more joyful because I realize I have found something worth losing everythin else for. I lived most of my life in bondage and fear and I dont ever want to go back. Pray that my love for God and for the scriptures would grow and deepen. Pray for strength and wisdom while I am away this summer. Pray that I would guard my heart in the shelter of the Almighty one.

    Blake says:

Hi. My name is Blake. I’m 29 years old, live in Dallas Tx., and I just recently left a football marketing job with Nike to “GO FOR IT.” I took the job 18 months ago after the pursuit of professional football left me impoverished and aching from 5 orthopedic surgeries. The job was a tremendous blessing. However it is not my passion. My passion is to inspire people to believe in themselves according to the spirit and the power of Jesus Christ that dwells inside them and it breaks my heart when they can’t see the great things God created them for. In November, my father, mentor, and lifetime coach passed away after a 25 year battle with multiple sclerocis. I always saw the joy it brought to his soul to see his son glorify God by giving every last God Given gift to what his hands had found to do(football). Because of that I promised him that he would one day see his son perform on the highest level. Now, that I can survive without income for I while, I believe the time has come for one final shot at the NFL. Not for my fame, or financial gain, but for his Glory. I believe God has brought me to the brink of the humanly impossible so that he will be glorified and I will have nothing to boast about. “He is greatly glorified when we are enabled to do what we’re unable to do.” (Beth) Rest assured that it is not my physical ability but rather my circumstances that render this pursuit impractical by human standards. I did play 3 years of professional arena football and currently train and compete everyday with NFL athletes. I am currently 5 months removed from hip surgery and just getting back to 100%. I hope to have some NFL workouts coming up in the next month after they see my workout/highlight video. I hope to one day tell my story to a 14 year old kid who doesn’t believe in himself and inspire him to do great things for the kingdom of God. There is more to this story but I have probably already gone on too far. I pray for strength of heart, for courage, for bold confidence, for tremendous faith in God’s plan and power, for doors to open, for clarity of his will, that this pursuit brings hope to others, but above all, that this journey brings Glory to God no matter what that requires of me and no matter where it’s final destination for that is the only reason I exist. I am overwhelmed with gratitude that you would bless my life with the power of your prayers. You are a tremendous blessing to me. THANK YOU!

Thank you LPM for doing this! It is wonderful!

My name is Brittney. My husband Ben and I are both 24 years old and have been married for three years. We are both college students in Southern Illinois. I am majoring in Deaf Studies/Interpreting. I have a year left in my program, and he has a year and a half and then will graduate with plans of becoming a high school English teacher. Both of us being full time college students has certainly been a challenge. We are actually moving back home to Northern Illinois at the end of this semester and taking a year off of school and working to pay off some debt, and save up some money. We are both a little apprehensive about what this next year will hold for us, but we feel strongly that this is what God is asking us to do. I am a planner, and it is very hard for me to let go of the plans that I have for our life, and let the plan God has take over. We are both very eager to start a family, but are wanting to be responsible about it and finish our schooling first and this move seems to just push that back even further.

Thank you so much for praying for us! I am grateful.

    Melissa Crutchfield says:

    Hi there!

My name is Melissa and I am 24! I am currently living in Bologna, Italy serving as a missionary with Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ). I work with university students at the University of Bologna. An area of my heart that I am constantly struggling with is hopelessness for the students I work with. The university that I work at has 100,000 students and less then 10 known believers. Day after day, I talk with students who have no interest in Jesus or God. Most of them are atheists. My heart just breaks for the students here, because they have no idea how loved they are and how fulfilling a life with Christ is.

Can you pray for my heart as I work with these students? My prayer is that I wont become hopeless but I will trust that God can do immeasurably and abundantly above all than I can ask or imagine. Thank you for this kind blog post, Beth and your prayers, siestas!

    Sydney MacNaughton says:

Hello! My name is Sydney, and I am a 21 year old student majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences at Portland State. I am currently in the midst of planning a combined missions trip/internship in Eastern Europe for the second half of this year. In the Czech Republic (where less than 1/3 of 1% is Christian) I will be working with Josiah Venture to spread the gospel at English camps. I will then move on alone to Ukraine for 3-4 months to teach English and love on to Gypsy/Roma children at an orphanage. This trip will be life changing, but more importantly allow me to use my skills from my major beyond academia, and as well as my skills as a native English speaker, to further the gospel in some very spiritually dark places. Please pray for these people, that my skills may be utilized, and that I may become a learner of a culture and people group so different from my own. Also, although I have most of the trip already covered, my (non christian) parents have asked me not to fundraise for the last bit, and it has forced me to walk a delicate line between encouraging my amazing church community to pray for and support me, and honoring my parents. Please pray that I can strike that balance. So thankful for this community.

      Hi, Sydney!
I am excited to hear that you are at Portland State! I am a 22yo from GA, and I will be moving there in September to be a campus minister at PSU.
I will be praying for you as you continue to seek God’s will for support-raising. I am in the middle of that for Fall and I understand how it can be, especially when relating to parents! I will pray the Lord will mold their hearts as well as He seeks to mold you.
From one support-raising sister to another, keep your focus on His glory and He will provide for your needs! May He do immeasurably more than all you can ask or imagine! (Eph. 3:20)

Hi, my name is india. I live in brisbane Australia! I’m 27 years old. Married for 4.5 years. I work in a Christian school as a chaplain. We are so blessed here in Australia to have the option for chaplains in our school!!! (Google su qld chaplaincy for more info) chaplains are basically youth workers/pastoral workers in schools. I work in a Christian school so get to actively tell kids about god in my pastoral work. I also plan and run chapel services weekly for our younger school (age 5-11). I also work with the high school girls and I would LOVE prayer as I am constantly giving out to the kids in my school. I am so conscious of being a good role model especially in the high school. I need gods fire and inspiration daily and i long for Jesus to be known to kids in my school through me. I long to know the word of god. To live and breathe it as i work in school. To walk daily with god and whatever he has for me. For divine inspiration in planning chapel services! For the fire and hunger of god to fall upon the students at school. I need intercession in my marriage also. We are not experiencing all of gods fullness in marriage. Unanswered prayer for 4.5 years. Oh we need such breakthrough! Thankyou so much for this wonderful ministry and for praying!

My name is Tamara and I’m 26 years old from Arroyo Grande, CA. I am single and loving this season of my life, serving in my church home with youth ministry and music/worship ministry. I am an interim worship leader at my church for our Jr High and High School youth groups. But I am praying about the next opportunity God will open for me to serve, hopefully in full time ministry. God has given me a great passion for leading worship through music and there is nothing I have found more beautiful in this life than watching God’s children offer themselves fully in worship of our creator. God has given me so many amazing opportunities thus far and I can’t wait to see what is next. Please pray as I try to trust and take each step of faith as they come. And pray for me as I lead young girls, trying to point them to God in every situation and to love them well. Thank you so much!!

I am studying social work and have absolutely no idea what God wants to do with my life. All I know is I want to live to glorify Him. Just last week, my life was flip upside down by 6 high school girls. I saw their brokenness and need for love and changed my plans to stick around my school for the summer so I can mentor them. Please pray not only for me, but these girls. I desire for them to know God’s love, but I am weak and powerless with out the almighty King.

Thank you for your prayers. It is so assuring to know people that don’t even know me will take the time to pray for me!

    Jessica says:

My name is Jessica, I’m 25 and have two girls. I attend a wonderful church but often have a hard time participating in ministries or activities because of my wonderful blessings (ages 3 and 9mo). Sometimes this can be discouraging to my husband and I.

I also am reminded so often of my lack of wisdom and patience when it comes to raising my girls.

I feel sometimes like I don’t have the energy for spending time with God. I know it’s so wrong. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have the time, because I do. I love the time I spend in the Word when I do, but it just seems so much like work to get there. Once my kids are in bed I just want to relax. I know that’s my flesh talking. Please pray for me. I want to be so in love with Jesus that it just flows out of me.

I’m thankful for you all and your encouragement and would love for you to pray for my fiancé and my marriage, growing closer to and thirsting for God everyday and that we would maintain fiery hearts for Jesus that would overflow into our ministry and touch others ‘ lives. Also, we are believing God for an apartment in the area that would allow us to connect with our neighbors and share the love of Christ! Please pray that God would lead is to the right area and help us form relationships with those we live around.

    Lisa says:

Lisa from Pennsylvania, I’m 26 years old. The past couple of years my heart has just been lit on fire for The Word of God. It’s completely changed my life…my hobbies, my music, my relationships, pretty much everything. I’m in a season of faith, along with the rest of my family as we wait for my brother to return to The Lord and give up his lifestyle that has caused him to wander. Some days The Lord grants me peace and other days I want Him to just hurry up all ready. I would also ask for prayer for a wonderful man that I dated for a long time. The Lord asked me to surrender the relationship to him at the beginning of the year. My pure desire is to have a relationship and marriage that totally centers around and glorifies Jesus. Satan tries to mess with that desire constantly!

This weekend I am the prayer team leader at my church for the Priscilla Shirer Simulcast. I would ask for prayer in the areas of wisdom and guidance. I need the Holy Spirit to guide me on Saturday so The Lord can use me to help and pray with other women.

Thanks so much. It means so much to have someone faithfully praying for me.

I’m a young woman who loves God and wants to honour him with my life but the past couple of months have been very challenging for me. I also feel the call of God on my life to serve him in ways I can’t really put together. And I don’t know how to go about it. The past couple of months have been challenging for me. It’s been almost a year I graduated from Med School but have been unable to secure a place for my internship. I believe that God has a plan for me that never changes but sometimes I just don’t understand why I have to stay this long at home. Sometimes I just lose it and somehow it negatively imparts on my faith. All I want is to enter the fullness of what God has for me no matter what and to know for sure what it is He wants for me. Thank you very much.

My name is Faith and I’m from Waldo, Ohio. Thank you so much for your post Beth! God used you at just the right time for me!
I just turned 21 years old and have been struggling off and on for months in my relationship with God. I love God and I always will! I want to live my whole life for Him the best that I can, but I have just been feeling so very distant and disconnected from Him. I am so busy all the time and I’ve asked God to show me what, if anything in my life that I can give up right now so that I won’t be so busy. I don’t know what to do. All that I’m doing in my life is “good” stuff, but I’m so tired most of the time. I don’t feel driven to do hardly anything anymore. For most my life I’ve felt called by God to be a missionary to Japan, but I’m doing so much here that it feels like I will never be able to go. I know God is just preparing me for the future, but I don’t have a lot of patience. Sorry if this doesn’t make much sense. I really appreciate your prayers!

Hi Faith, I am so pleased to be able to pray for you. Your story sounds a lot like mine when I was your age. I now know that I had people praying for me throughout my struggles. One thing you can be absolutely sure about is that God knows exactly what your struggles are.
I will be praying specifically that your relationship with our loving Heavenly Father will become so real and alive for you, and that He will make clear your path in life. I have found with the benefit of hindsight that even when I felt distant from God, He was not distant from me at all. I am praying for rich blessings and Gods rest in your life.

My name is Elizabeth and I live in Mechanicsville, VA. I am 29 and been married for 5 years. I work full time at a life insurance company but through a tragic experience and God working on my heart, I have returned to school to go into nursing. This has been a huge commitment of time, money, and energy. Some days after working all day and then attending school at I night, I am too exhausted to carry on. God is sustaining me and I am succeeding well. I have exams next week and then a huge test for entrance into the nursing program May 17th. I know God has called me to do this and I am excited to see how he will bless my life and hopefully my patients’ lives once I complete the schooling. I did have to put on hold starting a family which was a difficult decision for both me and my husband. I appreciate all the prayers for wisdom, for money as I will have to quit my job once I start the program in the fall, and for remembering why I am doing this.

My name is Rachel and I am 26 years old. I am the daughter of a pastor and have recently moved with my parents to Alabama. When I was 18 my parents took in a foster child and it totally rocked my world. Once that little girl left our house she never left my heart and I knew that I was called to adopt. Looking back to 2 years ago when I found myself madly in love with a guy who was 16 years my senior. In the beginning we talked about marriage, kids and the house we would build together. Unfortunatley as time passed the man I had grown to love turned into a different man and became abusive all of my hopes and dreams for my future came crashing down as I ended the relationship. I kept praying that God would reveal what I wsa to do now that I was hopelessly single. God has shown me that I am to adopt right now as a single woman. So far I have been on a waiting list for 8 months and will hopefully be a mom sometime after Christmas! Please pray that God will provide the rest of the money I need to cover agency fees and lawyer fees! He has consistently shown me in my times of doubting that this is his plan for my life!

I also serve as the children’s minister at our small church. This post was so wonderfully timely for me today as this past few weeks I have not been protecting that fire and passion. I can also see the results of that decision, as I struggle more with temptations and discontent. Please pray for me in that area as well as for a man who loves God passionately, that can be my partner in ministry one day! Love all you ladies!

    Ashlie says:

Hi there, I’m Ashlie, 28 years old, married 7 years to my highschool sweetheart, and mama to 3 sweet little ones (3 under 3!) I love Jesus so much and want desperately to see Him glorified in my life, from the smallest to biggest thing. I often get tired and discouraged, this is a busy season of life for me. First of all, I’d love prayer to fulfill my calling as a wife and mom. For strength, energy, and passion to shepherd their little hearts and to love my husband. Secondly, I’ve known for a long time that God wants to use me in some aspect of ministry (aside from my family which is my first ministry). But the direction and timing is foggy…and I so I wait, learn, and seek. A friend and I started a young adults ministry at our church when we turned 18 because after getting out youth group, there was nothing for us. That was amazing and we saw God move miraculously. That chapter has closed as I had to step down when my second daughter was born, but the passion burning in my heart to reach souls, share His word, love the hurting, see captives set free, and encourage the broken has not waned. (Isaiah 61 comes to mind) Specifically women. I have no idea what that looks like and I don’t want to step into anything unless God is totally IN IT. I’m content to serve wherever He has placed me, but I want to make sure my ear is inclined. I struggle with fear. Fear of man, fear of success/failure, mostly fear of discerning wrong, and not wanting to do something that is “my” idea. Especially because how I spend my time affects my sweet family. I have a blog, and have thrown around the idea of writing/speaking, but I’m just letting God have that to do with what He pleases. His plans are always much better than mine. I am just struggling a bit right now with knowing if He’s calling and I’m not being obedient out of fear, or if I just need to sit tight. The back and forth of this has often caused me to retreat, make my world small, and that’s when I tend to grow cold. I DON’T want that! Hope that makes sense! Thank you, Beth, for doing this and to you sweet ladies for your prayers!! 🙂

I am currently in grad school in Ohio and it has been a challenge–being lonely, having trouble finding relationships, feeling inadequate at my job, struggling with singleness, and questioning whether I made the right choice to start grad school. I turned down a job I loved to begin this opportunity. I know Christ is faithful and I believe He opened doors for me to be here but I’ve been discouraged. Wow this is such a wonderful idea!

My name is Kristen and I am 24 years old. I will graduate with my doctorate in physical therapy in just 2 weeks. And I am entering into a brand new season in my life. I wil be out of school for the first time ever and will begin my career in PT. I start a job in August that requires moving from my family in Georgia and starting in South Carolina in a town where I know no one. It’s all very exciting and full of opportunity and promise! But a little scary too!!! I would greatly appreciate prayer for this new season and that my passion for The Lord would not fade but would increase tenfold in this new beginning that I may grow where He has planted me!

    Thank you all!!!

Kristen – I’m going to pray for you… especially as you start this new move on your own away from family. Praying God brings people in your life to be your ‘chosen family’ while you are away.

Don’t be scared… God is already in your tomorrow… 7 already in South carolina too 😉

      Ellen W. says:

      Dearest Kristin,

My name is Ellen from central Louisiana. I believe the Lord directed me to your post specifically. It will be my privilege to pray for you as you step out in a new location and new season of life. I have a son(a few years older) who is doing the same thing. He has graduated from Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas, TX and will be moving to Indiana to work. I know he also has struggled with some fear about going to a place where he knows no one, especially so far away.

However we have a heavenly Father who is in charge. He knows your heart and will be thrilled to give you ALL of your desires concerning Him. I am sure He has awesome plans for his daughter (Jer. 29:11)

Now every time I lift my son(who will be in Indiana) before the throne, I will be reminded to pray for Kristen from Georgia(who will be in South Carolina).
How exciting and comforting it is to know that no matter where we are HE is there also(loving, protecting, and guiding) us.

    Simone says:

Hi, my name is Simone. I am 26 years old, from Ontario, Canada. My prayer request is to become more sold out for Jesus Christ. I’ve been having a tough time getting into the word and having that passion for Christ. I’m so thankful God led me to this Blog today. I feel like this a good first step. Part of the reason why I’ve lost a bit of my passion for Christ is that my husband and I are struggling with infertility. We’ve been trying for 3 years and found out recently after many treatments/surgery that we have no chance of conceiving our own biological child. I really need prayer for that too and just to follow and trust Gods will for us. Thanks so much for your prayers 🙂

    Julia says:

My name is Julia and I’m single, 28 years old & live in Columbia, South Carolina. I work at a church in the youth ministry and have had a stirring in my heart that God is working and about to do something big in my life.. I have no clue what yet, but I know He’s working on something.

I’ve been praying about a “career” and know it’s in ministry somewhere, I can’t imagine enjoying doing anything else. I am in the beginning process of selling my house so I can afford to continue to work in ministry and also be prepared & ready to “go” when God says “Go!” Please pray for direction & wisdom to proceed with that.

My other prayer request is this: My “dream” is to be a mom and minister to my own little family, it’s the only “job” I’ve ever wanted to have. Obviously, without a husband this dream cannot proceed. Pray for my patience with the Lord’s timing with this and for Him to direct my path right into my husband’s. Pray for my preparation as a wife before I get to that point so I will be ready for it when it comes. Pray for my watchfulness of the Lord and to keep my eyes on Him, becuase I am confident in Him, and He is faithful.

      Dear Holli,

I pray God will give you protection through your travels and will thrill you every step of the way. May your journey be blessed with the presence and grace of our Lord and Savior. I am praying Proverbs 31:26 over you. That Holli will speak with wisdom and she will teach others to be loving and kind as she travels to Costa Rica and China. May Holli shine the light of Jesus everywhere she goes. I ask these many things in the mighty name of Jesus.
