For You in Your 20’s and You Who Will Pray For Them

**UPDATE: We are just so happy to have all of you 20-somethings flock to requesting prayer! Our faithful God surely hears, and cares to His core! If you do not see a specific partner reply to your request, know that the LPM Staff have adopted you. We will pray for each of you, joyfully!

One of my favorite things about Twitter is that we can come to really love someone we wouldn’t have even known to like. Someone from an entirely different part of the country or the planet. Someone from a totally different tradition of our faith. Someone in another generation who serves God in a way that is fresh and exhilarating to us. I have a whole mental list of those and just this morning prayed for a number of young women that I’ve gotten to “know” there on that ridiculous stream of social media that I love. It is a young man that I’ve come to appreciate so much, however, that prompted this post. His name is Jefferson Bethke. I didn’t know anything about him until 6 months ago when Melissa, my youngest daughter, told me she enjoyed following him on Twitter. He is a great communicator God clearly has His hand upon and a poet who creates fantastic thought-provoking videos. I’m glad to have the privilege to tell you about him but that’s not why I’m bringing him up today. A week or so ago on Twitter he mentioned sitting on the airplane, moved with emotion over various testimonies he’d been reading of lives dramatically changed by Jesus Christ. It hit me right then that one of the things I loved best about him is that the young man simply has a pure heart. He just flat-out loves Jesus and loves people. It’s consistent in everything he says and writes. I felt an urgency right that moment to ask God to protect that holy passion and sustain it the length of his days.

And that’s when I thought of all of you in his same generation who really do want to honor God and fulfill the purpose for which He planted your feet on this earth.

Here’s what I want to say to you: you really can maintain a pure and fiery heart toward Christ and His mission on earth but make no mistake: you will not do it by accident.

If you want a pure heart, you better be willing to fight for it. You will not keep it any other way.

The first big relief is that we can’t conjure one up on our own. God alone can create in us a pure heart and renew a right spirit within us. (Psalm 51:10) He alone can set it ablaze with holy passion. But out of God’s sovereign wisdom, He determined that guarding the heart He formed and lit within us would, in many ways, fall to us. We’re to own part of that job.

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

Our second huge relief is that we can have a pure heart whether or not we have a pure past. Thank You, Jesus. If not, I and many others would be stuck for a lifetime with dark distorted hearts and deformed desires.

There are many other things more effective voices could tell you about guarding your heart toward Christ, toward people He’s sent you to serve and toward His mission on this planet. Ask them and learn from them. My purpose today is to pitch into the mix a couple of things that I’ve learned – and keep learning – in case any of it resonates with you. I also want to pray for you and call others to do the same. Here goes:

*Your heart will cool off if you do nothing to guard it. Jesus warned us in the 24th chapter of Matthew that “because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” (V.12) We’re exposed to so much suffering and violence, pain, pretense, and wrongdoing in the world that, even as a defense against feeling so much, we’ll naturally thicken up. I’m certainly not suggesting we be less informed. Uninformed Christians can be a waste of light in the darkness. What I’m suggesting is that, if you want to keep a warm, feeling heart, you better be prepared to fight like mad for it.

*Over time, you can get really cynical. For one thing, cynicism can be really funny so we get drawn to it. It also tends to be cooler. You have to be willing to be one of those that the cynics could make fun of.

*You have to realize that guarding your heart means guarding its willingness to love and be exposed out there where it can get wronged or wounded. A couple of years ago I was researching God’s self-disclosure in Exodus 34:5-7 and stumbled onto something that totally changed the way I looked at guarding my heart. Here’s the segment so you can see it for yourself:

5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love…

See that word “maintaining”? It is a form of the same Hebrew term used in Proverbs 4:23  for “guarding” our hearts. In other words, a huge part of guarding my heart is maintaining love. It was a total game changer for me because somehow I had associated guarding my heart with keeping it sheltered. Try to fathom that God actively maintains His love toward us. He guards it. Using that same concept, He calls us to maintain our love toward other people. If I want to stay in love with my husband, for instance, I better actively practice maintaining it because, left to its nature, it will grow cold.

One of the things that God keeps teaching me to do is pray with everything in me and on an ongoing basis to love Jesus more than anything I can see or touch in this human realm. He promises in Scripture to grant us everything we pray in His will and in His name. (1 John 5:14-15)  Since His greatest command was that we love (Mark 12:30-31), you can pray for it with absolute confidence that He’s going to do it. In fact, every time you ask God for it, go ahead and thank Him in advance that He’s going to accomplish it. He will. Then when He starts doing it, you start guarding it with all your might.

Ask Him continually to stir fire in your bones for His Word and for His mission. Ask Him to sustain it in you and teach you how to guard it through every inch of your lifespan. Only put up with a sense of spiritual flatness for a matter of days. That’s completely normal. But when it begins to turn into weeks, go face-down on that floor and ask God to give you insight into what seems off and to revive your heart. Don’t just accept coldness. Fight for love.

What is it you want from God? Pray for it feverishly! “Pursue love and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts.” That’s what 1 Corinthians 14:1 says.

Also ask others to pray these things over you. That’s what I am hoping this blog post will be about today.

Here’s what I’m asking all of you to do if you’re willing:

*Those of you in your 20’s, tell us at least your first name, where you’re from, and a little bit about you in a comment so that we can personalize our intercessions for you.

*The rest of you choose one of them to pray for (or two, if you have the time), let them know in a reply under their comment that you are adopting them for intercession for the next 14 days. Tell them where you’re from as well. I think they’ll like knowing that, too. As long as every 20-something gets signed-up for, it doesn’t matter if a number of you are praying for the same individual. If they’re like us, they’d be ecstatic to have the extra prayer covering. Pray as you feel led by God but, within that intercession, pray particularly for God to stir up and sustain a holy passion in them for Himself, His mission, and for people on this planet, and that they will be alert and proactive in guarding their hearts to last a lifetime. Ask God forthrightly to deliver them from any area of bondage, strengthen them in temptation, and deliver them from evil. Love them with all your might through prayer.

Let’s partner with this generation and intercede powerfully for them. They are the rising future of the church of Jesus Christ at this tumultuous time on the Kingdom calendar. Let’s pray them out there.

Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you, and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.  1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 ESV

PS. To our regular blog community: I put this in a comment but I’m afraid many of you may not see it.

I am grateful beyond expression for your participation on this post. Please move at the same pace that you see our 20-somethings sign up. In other words, if at our first moderation there are 15 of them, see that all 15 are spoken for then, instead of doubling and tripling up on the same small group, watch for others to be posted and claim those. Assume in about 48 hours that we’ll probably have around 80% of the 20-somethings that will end up participating. Still, check every couple of days for about a week to make sure everybody gets covered if you don’t mind. Sisters, this woman right here KNOWS how powerfully you pray. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it. You are solid gold in the Kingdom of God! Pray for these young people like you’d want somebody to pray for your own children, whether or not you have any. Take them on as blood. Pray with faith and holy fire. Pray like the near future of the church depends on Jesus revealing Himself through them. They are so worth it. JESUS is so worth it.

I love you guys madly.

Beth

    Tashi says:

    Hello,
My name is Tashi and I’m 26 (I’ll be 27 tomorrow!) years old. I live in Houston, TX. I could use some prayer because I so desire for my relationship with Jesus to be white-hot in love with Him and for all people. I feel like recently that “white-hot” has cooled a bit as I just went through a break-up and have been sucked into the vortex of work responsibilities. In 1.5 weeks, God has me going to China for two months for work so I urgently request prayer for faith and boldness to share the Gospel. I will miss the girls I do life with and mentor, so I ask for prayer for Christian community… Sometimes business trips can be a little lonely as you go back to an empty hotel room. I pray instead it will be a sweet time of proximity to Jesus. Overall, I pray that God will do something significant for His glory through my life; it’s not that I need to know what that is, but I confess that I find myself focusing on the type/place of ministry rather than focusing on Him and trusting that He will lead me in due time.
Thank you for your kindness in ministering through prayer.
    Blessings,
    Tashi

Sweet Tashi, It is my honor to pray for you over these next 14 days. I will be praying that the Lord will minister to you so intimately while you are in China and that He will be glorified through it. I pray that He will renew your zeal for Him and that you will feel so in love with Him that your mind stays steadfast on Him. And, happy birthday!

Hey, Tashi, I’m Kristi in Fayetteville, AR and I can’t wait to pray for you.

Father, use Tashi in a powerful way on China. Surround her with your power and make her a missionary and an encourager to everyone she meets there. In her moments of loneliness help her to fall more and more in love with you. In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.

For god to comfort you from your recent breakup. For safety for your trip to China and that during those two months away that Jesus would become so dear and real to you that your life would ever be changed.
Love and blessings to you sweet one!

      Hello Tashi-
My name is Darla. I am 32 and live in Grand Prairie, Texas. I will lift you up in prayer for the next 14 days. I know that God will do an awesome work through you in China! I will pray for your boldness and strength in the Lord, however, I would also like to encourage you in this time dealing with a recent break up. I know relationship shifting tend to throw people into places of self doubt and questioning who we are. Just know that in your weakness His strength is made PERFECT. When we loose control and meet our limitations, that is when God truly steps in! God does a work through us inspite of our insecurities and percieved limitations and I am sooo thankful for that. Aren’t you? Christ’s love will shine through you perfectly I have no doubt! I am believing God to show you how to rest in that in this season of your life. He has chosen you for such a time as this 😉

Learning to live in His Grace,
      Darla

Mary G in St. Paul, MN says:

      Dear Tashi,
Happy Birthday girlfriend!!! I pray that God will wrap you in His arms as you heal from this break up. That God will be your number one in your heart mind and soul. That the love of Jesus would so fill your being that it would just overflow to everyone you encounter. I pray that Jesus would fill you with such boldness in sharing your faith that you will be blown away knowing that it was only something He could have done. I pray that your fellowship with Jesus will be so blessed that your time alone will not seem one bit lonely, but as a sweet gift because of sweet fellowship with the Savior. I pray that God would be glorified in and through your life dear one. Most of all I hope you know how dear you are to Jesus and how proud He is to call you His own. I am committing to pray for you everyday for the next two months while you are in China. Blessings to you!

    Megan says:

My name is Megan, I am 26 years old, single, and am currently living in California, away from my family in Indiana. I work in full-time ministry on a worship arts team at a large church. Lately I have been experiencing burnout and struggling to hear God’s voice amidst the stress and fatigue. I have not felt valued, loved, trusted or shepherded by the leadership over me, which has stripped me of my confidence, joy, energy, and ambition… which used to be trademarks of how I lived my life. It has left me broken, but thankfully not without hope. I once read that it takes courage to have hope… and I never fully understood that until now.

Please pray that during this time I could be patient until I hear God’s voice, and that I would be able to discern when God is speaking to me and use wisdom in any decisions that may need to be made (vocationally or otherwise). I have a huge passion for music, photography, travel, mentoring/pastoring (especially women), and missions. Please pray that God would make it clear how He is calling me to use these gifts/passions to glorify Him! It is easy to get lost in the stress and chaos, but pray that my heart, soul, mind, and strength would remain intensely focused on Him. Lastly, pray that I would encounter the presence of the Holy Spirit in a way that would bring about fullness of joy (Psalm 16:9-11).

Thank you for this amazing community of women who can gather around to love, support, encourage, and pray on behalf of one another. This is truly amazing! I am so thankful for the prayers that will be lifted up.

Hi Megan, my name is Jen, I live in Ohio and I’m 32. I am super excited about and desperately want to encourage women in their ministry roles and giftings. It would be my honor to lift you up in prayer. I will be praying for discernment, trust, peace, and positive leaders in your life. I can tell just from your comment that you a special and full of life and joy. Stay strong, sister, and know that you are lifted up.

      • Megan says:

Jen, I am thankful for you! As strange as this may sound, it means a lot to have someone praying for me from the midwest, where the rest of my family is at (several relatives live in Ohio), who I miss so much during these harder times. Thank you for your prayers… and for being a sister who cares deeply. I’m so encouraged already, just knowing that you are there, 2,300 miles away, praying for me. 🙂

      Gretchen says:

      Hi, Megan,

My name is Gretchen and I live in Southern California, too – Thousand Oaks.

I will be praying for you, dear one. Maintaining hope certainly does take courage and I will be asking the God of Hope to fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you might overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is with you, child, and He will show Himself faithful.

Know that I will be on my knees praying for you as a precious daughter for the next several weeks.

      With love,

      Gretchen

      • Megan says:

Gretchen, your words touched me profoundly and brought tears to my eyes: “I will be asking the God of Hope to fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you might overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Thank you for the words and prayers, and for reminding me of God’s faithfulness. I love that though we live fairly close to one another, we have not met… and yet God has brought you into my life as a prayer warrior on my behalf. You are setting an example of what I want to be for other women as well! And who knows… maybe someday we’ll run into each other and I can thank you in person for your prayers and share with you how God moved mightily during this season of life. 🙂

        • Gretchen says:

          Hi, Megan,

I’m so glad the Lord encouraged you with that verse! I should have refernced it in my post- it is Romans 15:13 and was one of my memory verses a few years ago. He is, indeed, the God of Hope, and I’ve been praying that and so many other things for you! Please do let us all hear about how God has been working in your life!

I hope we meet someday, too!

          Blessings,

          Gretchen

    Tabitha says:

My name is Tabitha, I’m 23, and from Southern Oregon. I would like prayer for God to refine my love – to teach me Agape, 1 Corinthians 13 love 🙂 I would also like prayer for peace, patience and trust as I am waiting on the Lord to fulfill a promise I believe he’s given me. So thankful for it, but it’s easy to get discouraged when things seem to be moving slooooooowly! Last thing: to pray that my inner beauty in Christ would shine brighter in the eyes of those around me bright enough to outshine any outer beauty I might have to offer. Thank you so much!

      Hi Tabitha,
My name is Joni, I’m 54 and live in Littleton CO. I am wife, mom of 3, Grammy of 3 and I LOVE Jesus for how He has healed and loved this broken vessel. I would be honored to pray for you for the next 14 days.

I don’t know much, but I KNOW that our God is faithful, trustworthy and true. I know about waiting, and it’s in the waiting that we truly get to experience His faithfulness.

Praying for you sister…I am “ruined for Him”, Joni

The verse I heard in our sermon last Sunday is “love keeps no record of wrong”…totally spoke to me and when I read that you would like prayer for love…I felt compelled to pray for you.

Hi Tabitha, my name is Kim and I live in North Texas. I am honored to pray for you as you learn to love others with an agape love. I will pray for you to see steps toward the promise you believe God has given you. I believe God loves to fulfills the promises He makes to us and while we are waiting, He is working out the details. I totally get the beauty thing inside and out. I recently gave a talk on it at my church. You stay close to God in reading your bible daily and spending sweet time seeking Him. I want to share one more thing, in 2009 while spending time with God, I journaled that I believe God was calling me into full time ministry. I just found that journal last week where I wrote it and believe it or not, I had forgotten that I wrote it. I cried when I read just how good God is and how He blesses. I went into full time ministry almost two years ago in 2011. God has even gone further than I imagined by using me to start a new Women’s Ministry at my church that I had been praying about for 5 years. Keep believing God sweet sister and know you have someone in Texas praying.

      Hi Tabitha!
I also live in Southern Oregon. And I will be praying for you as if you were one of my own and am honored to do so! I pray that you would be anxious for nothing but by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, you will make your requests known unto God and the peace that passes all understanding will guard your precious heart and mind (Phil 4:6-7). May His love surround you and fill you and may you trust in Him more and more! Hang onto the promises He gives you, no matter how long those promises take to come into reality! Be blessed with His supernatural peace, un-daunting love for Him and all around you. And may you find favor in His sight and the sight of man! May the beauty of the Lord shine so bright in you, that you are seen as one who has been in the presence of our precious Lord Jesus Christ!

Hi I’m Ashlee from Charlotte, NC.
I’m 22 and a student right now; I will be student teaching in the Fall. Please pray that I can be a light to my students, and love them well!
Also, my dad pastors a Hispanic church plant, and I’m very involved in it. The people are growing spiritually, and the church is getting larger! It’s so exciting to see the Lord work there. I love being a part of this church and I LOVE the people in it…but I’m currently struggling finding community and Christians my own age to grow spiritually with.
The church could use a youth pastor, if you wouldn’t mind praying for that as well.
Thanks so much for your prayers!!!

Not sure if you’ll see this, but I’d like to give a shout out to Mrs. Beth Moore: Thank you so much for your passion for Christ. I have seen you speak several times at Passion and the fire in you is so real. I am so very encouraged and challenged by you, and the Lord has used you greatly in my life.
God bless you, I pray the Lord continues to use you in such a mighty way in other women’s lives!

With all the stresses of job hunting, moving, wedding planning, and graduating, life is pretty crazy. Prayers for peace, the Lord to lead my fiance and I, and for job opportunities for us both would be much, much appreciated.

I am praying for your future and all it holds. Dear Marie,

My name is Shelly and I’m from Portland, Oregon and I’m 48 years old, married, with a 16 year old son. It will be an absolute honor to cover you in prayer and stand in the gap for you over the next 14 days. I can relate to those desires of your heart. I will ask that God fill every empty space inside you and that He stretches out inside your being where you know, without a doubt, that He is with you always and in all things. May you see yourself as He sees you and find true identity by knowing to Whom you belong. You are so precious. Know that, even if we never meet this side of Heaven, I love you, sister.

Hello, Marie! I am honored to pray for you! My name is Gail, I am 40, married, with 3 daughters, living in central WA. I, too struggled with keeping my security in the things Eternal, rather than things of this earth. I also went through a time of doubting that God would, even if He could, supply all my needs. I can so relate to your requests! I will most definitely be praying, also for His will for your companion. My favorite verse that got me through these very struggles was Psalm 62:5, “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.” Wait only on Him! Put all your expectations in Him, and Him alone! He has been with me every step of the way, and I know He will see you through! What a privilege, to pray for each other!

Hi Marie! I’m Elizabeth–I’m 32 in Broomfield, CO. One of my best friends is in a similar place as you, so I’m grateful to get to pray for you because I’ll remember her too if that makes sense.

Father, thank you for Marie’s desire to be close to you. Above all, be the shelter at her right hand. May she put her hope in you and you alone and may she know herself as your daughter first and always. Protect her heart in relationships and help her to believe that you are preparing a wonderful man for her in your time. Give her strength to trust you when it seems like your time is a LONG time. And may this season of waiting just be a sweet time between Marie and you where she can see more and more who you’ve created her to be. Amen!

My name is Kali and I live in Florida. I am 26. I have just started teaching and I really feel like God is calling me to do something more with it but I don’t know what. I struggle with depression and anxiety but this past Sunday was my 3 year anniversary for no longer self harming. Pray that I can continue to fight that battle. I am really in a place of struggle right now as to what the future holds for me and really struggling in the waiting. I know all the truths about God in my head but I can’t get them to sink into my heart. I really want a renewed passion to be stirred up in my heart and it’s something I have been praying for but would love more prayers.

Thank you for this – and for praying for me. May God return the blessing to you.

Hey y’all!! My name is Ashley and I live in East Tn. I’m 23 yrs old and currently am within a few months of graduating with a bachelor degree in business. I also work full time as a teller at the local bank. I have engaged in bible studies within the past year and a half, the first one being James. Ever since then I can’t get enough of studying the Word and long to be obedient in His will for my life. I pray that I will not be a wimp (like I have been the past 2 weeks), and will fight the good fight. This post has meant so much to me and has lifted me up today, it’s nice to know we’re not alone in the battle but should unite together in prayer in Jesus’ name and that’s exactly what we are doing!! Thank you sweet sisters for the prayers and may He bless each one of you and grant you the strength to press on in His name!!!!!

Hi! My name is Sloan, I recently turned 26 and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. This could not have come at a better time! I am getting married in 11 days (eek!!) and I am very excited, but somewhat overwhelmed with things to do, along with the fact that I will be living with a boy!

Over the next few weeks, if you could pray for me and Ryan, that our marriage would be one that glorifies God and that we seek His will for our lives and love Him first.

Also, if you could pray for my job. We are in the midst of doing some big things, but these big things need financing that is not currently there.

And personally, if you would pray to give me a hunger for God’s Word. It often seems like I forget until it is after time for me to go to bed, so I just do that instead. Please pray that I make it a priority in my life.

I would love to pray for whoever is praying for me also. Thank you, Beth, for this wonderful ministry and community.

      Amanda Cross says:

Hi Sloan! I live in Arkansas. Your request about hungering for God’s Word really stood out to me. I’m 34 and for most of my Christian walk I have been inconsistent in Bible reading until last year. The beginnings of it started two years ago when I did the Bible in 90 Days challnege. I have come to treasure the Word and read it daily. Last night I devoured the first 10 chapters of Proverbs. I kept seeing the phrases: pay attention to my words, hear, listen, hold onto my commands, etc. God has so much to teach you in His Word to guide your life. If you have children, you will be responsible to teach them God’s Word too. It really is your life. Praying for you and Ryan, for your marriage, and future.

      • Sloan says:

Thank you for your encouraging words, Amanda. I know that the more I read, the more I will want to. It’s just coming to a place where I do it consistently. I don’t doubt that I’ll get there!

    Hi!

My name is Renee and I live in Brooklyn,NY. I’m turning 24 and graduating from law school in June. I would really love prayer regarding my purpose (I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to be a lawyer). I feel called to work with trauma victims (rape, domestic violence etc.) and eventually to open clinics around the world. However, that’s the big picture and I have no idea what my next steps are after graduating law school. I’d also like to pray for courage and boldness regarding this. Finally, I’d like to pray for healing over past trauma and hurt in my life. Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it!

Hi Renee, I am from Kansas City, and am actually 28 years old. I’m not sure I’m supposed to sign up to pray or just sign up to be prayed for, however your story caught my attention and I feel led to pray for you. I graduated from law school 2 years ago and can relate to the confusion and frustration of getting out of school in this economic climate and feeling like maybe I made the worst financial and career decision possible. I also realized that the dreams God planted in my heart didn’t align with this career I chose several years ago when pursuing my own plan. I began to despise my decision and my degree because I also feel led to work with women. I was offered a job I didn’t seek out as an assistant DA shortly after passing the bar exam. God has recently been showing me that my position as the now Domestic Violence prosecutor can lead to opening doors in the sex abuse and sex trafficking industry. For the first time in two years I feel like maybe it wasn’t a waste of a degree after all, and am starting to trust God that He can use this career for Him even if I don’t understand exactly how. I pray the same for you. We serve an incredibly creative God, and I pray He would guide you to the right places and begin to reveal to you His plan. I will also pray you would have peace not understanding the whole plan right now, but would trust Him throughout every stage. God is bigger than our mistakes or bad choices, and He will work all things together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Sorry for typos, I’m on my phone)

Hi! I am Sarah and I am 23 years old. I currently live in Chattanooga, TN with my husband of almost ten months. I am a social worker specifically working with widows on putting their life back together and stabilize. I struggle with my job because there are so many to help and I want to take them all as clients and I can’t. It is also hard because many of them do not know Christ, and due to my employer I am not allowed to share any type of spiritual beliefs with them. I am also not allowed to “friend” them outside of any type of work situation. I keep wondering if this is really where I am supposed to be. I love this, and hope we, twenty-somethings, will get the opportunity to pray for the rest of you as well. Love siestaville.

No one said life would be easy, in fact the Word of our precious Lord says that in this world we would have trial and temptations and I pray over you…that you would be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might! Be of good courage for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go! He is so faithful when we just rest in Him and trust Him to do His work, even if we may not see it! Keep your chin up and know that you are a daughter of the King…a princess of the Most High and His light will shine through you!

    What a great idea!
I’m Haley. I’m 22 and from Lexington, KY. I’m in the process of finishing up my second of three semesters of graduate school. I am studying diplomacy and development at the University of Kentucky. My husband and I have been married for almost three years and are moving through a lot of changes in our work and school lives. I have a passion for victims of exploitation and human trafficking. My heart for justice is leading my husband and I to live in Cost Rica this summer for two months, working with an organization that reaches out to victims of exploitation in the San Jose area. We are suuuuper busy and stressed out right now, so extra prayer is a welcome offer.
    My prayer needs:
Peace. My parents and siblings just sold their house and more moving three hours away. It’s a hard transition time for us. I am also in the midst of finals. Which is well, really stressful.
Courage. I am really nervous about this summer, but also so very exciting to see where God uses us as a couple. I need courage to go where God is leading me.
Health. I have been having some annoying, but not serious, health issues lately that are distracting me from the work I need to do. Pray that I can either work through these challenges or be healed from these issues.

    Thank you so much.

Hi, I’m Laura and I’ll be 27 in May. I live in Northern California with my family. My passions in life are Jesus, baking, and Italy. I’m involved in a local church body where I serve as the media person (maintaining our website, etc). I also write a baking blog and dream of writing a cookbook.

I’ve struggled with anxiety for the last few years. The Lord has done a great work in my life, but there is still healing to be done, so I’d love prayer for strength to overcome fear. As for my blog and career, I’d appreciate prayers for wisdom and direction as God brings me to new opportunities. My greatest desire is that I’d be known by my love for Jesus. Lastly, there’s a young man in my church body who has a heart for the Lord that I greatly admire. I’m praying that God would do a work there if a relationship would bring Him glory.

Thank you so much, this post encouraged my heart today!

I work full-time as an event planner for pharmaceutical companies but I also have a photography business and I sell gourmet sugar cookies — just tonight finished an order of 150 guitars for a rock-and-roll themed banquet. Fun! I SHOULD write a blog but maybe one day …

I also struggled with anxiety in my 20’s. It’s “under control” now but still follows me around taunting and rears it’s ugly head now and again. So I know what that is like and I also know what it held me back from with all of it’s empty “promises” of what if’s happening that never did. I will specifically pray for you for that. My name is Katherine and I’m 25 years old. I’d really appreciate prayer as my husband and I are going through a major year of transition…moving overseas for full-time ministry soon, our first child due in July and I’m just feeling overwhelmed and stressed. We’ve also continually battled various health issues (I was just diagnosed a couple weeks ago with gestational diabetes), which doesn’t help my stress or emotions. All these things take a toll on me, on my time with the Lord, and on our marriage. I don’t even know exactly how to ask for prayer, but these are the things that overwhelm me right now, so I would just ask for you to pray as you feel the Lord leading you. Rebecca says:

Hello! My name is Rebecca, and I am 20 years old. I am from Sevierville, but currently live in Johnson City, TN to attend East Tennessee State University.

First of all, I ask that you please pray that God will show me what direction that he wants be to go in for graduate school and a career. I feel that He is leading me into occupational therapy, but I have a tendency to doubt if I am headed in the right direction sometimes. I worry about “missing out” on what I am supposed to be doing.

Secondly, I ask that you pray for my health. I have been diagnosed with a health condition that makes it imperative that I eat right and exercise regularly. It is sometimes hard to do the right thing when others around you don’t have to make the same choices that you do, but I would like to make eating right and exercising regularly just part of my everyday lifestyle.

Lastly, but probably the most important is that you please pray for my attitude towards relationships. The part of the post where Beth talked about being cynical really grabbed my attention. I did not uses to be this way, but after several events happening over the past three years, I have found myself feeling “cold.” Between my health condition, the feeling of abandonment of most of my friends, and a recent heartbreak, I feel as if the only way to guard my heart is to not let anyone in. I know this is not the way to be, and I have a wonderful family that helps me and prays for me everyday. I ask that you pray for me to get out of this cynical, hard-hearted place in my life and back into listening to what God wants me to do.

I really appreciate the prayers, and thank you so much!

      Hi Rebecca,
I would be honored to pray for you! I can relate very much to what you wrote, although I am about 10 years older than you:) I live in Florida and work as an occupational therapist…so your mention of OT caught my eye. I’m not sure what direction you feel the Holy Spirit leading you, but I can assure you that you can bring much glory to God through OT. I understand about the fear of “missing out” on other opportunities; however, God does way more than we can ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20)Example-I went on a mission trip to Haiti last year and was able to do therapy with special needs kids in an orphanage..never imagined doing that when I was in graduate school! God uses our passions to influence our purpose. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians 3:17
I will also be praying for discipline and energy to eat right and exercise on a consistent basis-I think a lot of people probably struggle with that. I was reminded this summer when I was on a walk how brillant God is to design excercise to make us feel better-so it’s not only good physically but also mentally and emotionally.
Last, I will be praying for your attitude toward relationships. Funny you mention being “cold” because I had a good friend recently tell me (in a honest but loving way) that I was acting like an “ice queen” toward a specific relationship. God gave me an opportunity to practice love, like Beth talked about in her blog. We know that love is a fruit of the Spirit, so the more Spirit-filled we are, the more we can love well.
Thanks for being open and sharing your needs!
      Kristin

    Sarah says:

I’m Sarah, I’m 22, and I’m from Warner Robins, Georgia. I continue to struggle with if I being consistently in love with and on fire for Jesus. I feel stuck in this very lukewarm area of Central Georgia and as much as I’ve tried to fight being sucked into the “coolness”, I’ve adopted a spirit of defeat and failure. I want to be obedient to God and I want Him to be able to fulfill all the plans He has for me, but it’s hard to know what my part is and just what to do. I’m losing hope quickly. I want more than anything to believe that there’s hope for me to hear God’s voice, to consistently walk with Him, to know how to live, and to be passionate about Him all the days of my life, but lately my hope for that is dwindling rapidly.
Please just pray as Beth mentioned, for God to stir up and sustain a holy passion in me for Himself, His mission, and for people on this planet, and that I will be alert and proactive in guarding my heart to last a LIFETIME.
Thank you so much, it means the world.

      Sandra says:

      Sarah,
Do not lose hope. I will pray for you to know and follow God’s will for your life. It may not be dramatic or attention-getting but you are probably already following His will by studying His Word and doing whatever tasks you do each day. He may be preparing you for something special but you may have a wait before you realize what it is. I am Sandra and I also live in Georgia. I have found that each experience that God allowed me to have was preparing me for things in the future—for example, becoming a Sunday School teacher of 35 wonderful women and teaching in a Ladies Bible Study where we go book by book in the Bible.
Basically what I am saying is don’t worry so much about what is God’s will for your life, just trust Him to give you the wisdom and the faith to do what he wants you to do each day. I pray for you to find some strong Christian women who will help you to find your way.

    Erin says:

Hi! My name is Erin. I just turned 26 and live in Terre Haute, IN where I am in my second year of medical school. This post is ever so timely. I just finished radiation treatment for parotid cancer and have begun returning to “real life”. I just caught myself so overwhelmed by the urgency of things I need to do like study, pay bills, study, eat, study and sometimes even sleep that I forget to rest in the Lord and pursue eternal things. The only reason I chose to pursue becoming a physician is so that I can serve in medical missions wherever the Lord might send me, but it is SO easy to get wrapped up in the here and now. I would love some prayer for my physical health (I have yet to receive a “clean” scan), but more importantly my spiritual health. I want to be a woman that actively pursues the Lord and maintains a heart of love for Him and his people. I want to have a passion for his word and prayer life that is never ceasing. I want to know and follow Him every moment of every day regardless of how many I have left on this earth. Thank you Beth for presenting this opportunity! With much love,
    Erin

I lift you up to the Lord and ask Him to send His Word to heal you, dear one!. May the Lord keep you in the fold of His wings and speak to your heart so that it fills you with fire from above. His promises are faithful…let God be true! I pray you always have the hunger and thirst for Him and His Word, for the Word says that the good work He began in you…Will be completed on the day of the Lord Jesus Christ. Lianne says:

    Hi! My name is Lianne,
I am nearly 27 and a wife to my dear husband and mother of 2 young boys and currently on standby for the arrival of our 3rd boy in May. As a young family in the last few years we have experienced some hard hits but have seen God’s involvement and using of these sometime devestating events as tools and building blocks and possibly foundations of a future ministry. Oddly enough I get excited to look and see where and what God has brought us through. But I have to be honest in saying that lately in the trials I feel conflicted and robbed of my joy and my hope and utterly overwhelmed with the high demand of motherhood. Our current situation has us living with family that claim to be believers, but there is no evidence of fruit and a lack of mercy and grace and love but plenty judgment that it leaves my soul and spirit worn and crushed as well as confused. I find it challenging to find grace to give to them as we’ll as my own children and husband as well as myself. I am crying out desperately it seems everyday for Gods mercy and spiritual Renault of a fire and passion to continue to burn even at the times when I feel most exhausted. I don’t want any fire to go out! Just knowing that there are prayer warriors lifting us up is such a huge encouragement as we forge ahead to where God is leading us. Thank you!

I am in my mid 30’s with 2 children and a husband so I feel your stresses sister! I can also relate to the stress that family can weigh on you personally. I will pray that God first of all gives you an awesome joy in your heart, a passion for him and serving him. Next, I will pray that God protect your mind and your heart from the devices of the enemy that often steal our joy and rob us of our desire to do anything for God! I will ask God to draw you to him like never before and lead you in his ways. Remember Beth said it doesn’t come by accident which I have learned the hard way. Stay faithful to him dear sister no matter what! You won’t regret it!! 🙂

    Laura says:

    Hi everyone,

My name is Laura, and I’m 27 years old and I live in Portland, Oregon. I would so appreciate prayers over what the next steps are for me to take in my life. I have grown up in the church my whole life but for most of that time my Christianity was very cold and legalistic and I was plagued by a performance mentality and I constantly doubted my salvation. Over the last 8 months or so God has brought me on a journey that has been incredibly painful, but I’m so thankful for it because it shook my faith down to its very foundations and caused me to reexamine everything I said I believed, and now I can finally, joyfully say with confidence that I belong to Christ. I know I am His and that my eternal destiny is secure. However I’m still cautiously asking Him to show me His character and I still desperately need to know that He is gentle and that He genuinely cares for me, not just in the sense that He cares about my eternal destiny but that He cares about my day-to-day, that He cried with me when I am sad and feels tenderly toward me. This is what everyone tells me is true of God, but I’ve lived so long with a me tall picture of Him as angry, distant and uncaring that its hard to just do a 180 and immediately leave behind those old lies. So I would love prayer for my heart.
I also would love prayer in another big area, which is that I think God may be asking me to move away from Portland, my hometown, and go to Dallas Theological Seminary next fall to pursue a biblical counseling degree. I love the program at DTS but I question whether it is wise for me to move so far away from home–my whole extended family is in Portland, and I have a phenomenal church here in Portland that I love and where I am really well connected and have had a safe space to grow spiritually over the last couple of years. So it’s really hard to think of walking away from that. An additional factor is that there’s a guy who I was involved with who is connected to this church and may be moving back to Portland to attend this church in the fall. It’s a long story, but te short version is that my heart is still really aching over the situation. And I need wisdom for how to handle that situation, and I also don’t want it to unduly influence me one way or the other in my decision.
Finally, there’s one more thing I would really love prayer for. This is sort of connected to what I said above, how I’m still re-learning God’s character. As I’ve been going through this journey of deciding whether to leave Portland and go to Texas, I have mainly sensed Fos leading me toward DTS but I also sometimes have thought that I sensed Him leading me to move somewhere else, San Antonio specifically–which is weird because I know absolutely no one in San Antonio and there’s no school there, unlike Dallas. And whenever I think of moving to SA I get this put of fear in my stomach at the idea of just moving to a new city all alone, with no rhyme it reason. And I don’t know if this is from God or from the enemy. I don’t feel confident in my ability to discern the difference. So I need wisdom, and I need to get to know the voice of my God well so that I know Him and know when what im hearing is just satan trying to convince me that Go wants me to be alone, lonely and out of relationship (which is what I think SA would be).

Whew–I apologize for writing a novel. Thank you so much for your prayer–it means more to me than I can express.

    -Laura

    Marie says:

    Hi,

My name is Marie and I’m 28 years old. I would appreciate it if you would pray with me regarding:

    1. A sense of purpose. I feel rather adrift these days. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m not sure where I fit within the Body.

    2. Knowing and standing on God’s love and acceptance. A friend recently told me that I’m always beating myself up, and he’s very right. I get afraid that if I’m not “perfect” (an ever-elusive goal) that God won’t want to have anything to do with me.

    3. Developing a warm heart. This post was very timely, as I’ve been through more than a few rounds with more than a few unsafe people. Being cynical is easy, but I know that’s not what God wants.

    4. My husband, Chris. (He doesn’t mind my asking). That he would continue to pursue the Lord’s call on his life. That he would be a man of integrity.

    Thank you so very much!

My name is Teri and I live in Washington DC. My husband and I are new to this area after being firmly established in our former home so I get the “Where do I belong?” struggle. I would love to lift you in prayer over the next 2 weeks!

      Heavenly Father-
Bless sweet Marie and her courageous transparency. Guide her Lord as she tries to find her way and her place in the body of your church. Lead her to Godly sisters who will embrace her uniqueness and support her. Make her aware of boundaries but surround her with safe companions with whom she can share her heart and her walk. Reinforce your love in her life with the assurance of your grace not based on anything she is achieving or earning but purely from her desire to live in your light as waiting for perfection is an impossibility. Dearest God, bless her husband Chris that he will find your calling in his life and that he’ll have the desire to walk with you in honor and righteousness. And finally, Lord wrap your arms around both Marie and Chris and bless their marriage with love and attentiveness so they can grow and worship together. Amen.

Bless you both! Know that I will lift you up daily sister!

My name is Jenny and I am 29 years old. This post has already been an answer to prayer. I have a lot going on in my life… That awful word “busy” seems to sum up everything about life right now. With that I know my love for the Lord is not red hot, and I need for my love to be on fire again. I am blessed to have an amazing husband and a beautiful 21 month old daughter. My husband works on Sunday mornings and that makes going to worship with my squirmy, loud little miss really hard. I also am struggling with loving the church we’re attending, which isn’t helping my relationship with The Lord either. My husband and I are both working full time (and more) and trying to love our daughter with all we have, but it feels like we’re being stretched from all sides. I’m not sure how much longer I can keep up this pace and keep my sanity. I know the only thing keeping me going is my relationship with The Lord, but I need prayers for that relationship to be red hot again and for me to find time to spend with The Lord in His Word and in prayer. Thanks Beth for calling out cynicism, because as a former church worker that is such an easy trap for me to fall in. Thanks in advance for the prayers, they are needed and appreciated!

I am moving back to the States in June, but I hope to still be involved with the people of China in some capacity, once I transition back. Prayers for guidance in that area would be appreciated. Also, I just returned from an amazing ladies retreat this past weekend, and I want to be sure this fire that was lit this weekend doesn’t grow cold. I want to maintain and fight for love!! Hey Priscilla! It is a joy to be praying for you! I would love to email you and share more about the experiences she shared. I will do that very soon! Just wanted you to know you have been in my prayers daily! It IS a blessing and privilege to be able to pray for others even though we have never met!

    Angela says:

I’m Angela, 27, and I live in Houston. I work for a local non-profit serving some of the most vulnerable and forgotten of our society. I was raised overseas and have just in the last couple of years or so resigned myself to the fact that I may not live overseas again for a long time. Currently, I’m praying through the timing and program I want to begin to pursue my master’s degree in social work so I can better do the task God has given me, and to equip myself for whatever He may place before me in the future.

    Stacy says:

Hey there! My name is Stacy and I’m 27 years old. I’m from Benton, LA and I’m the children’s minister at my church, Cypress Baptist.

I’m getting married in 10 days! Please be in prayer for Brian (my man) and me as we enter this marriage. With so many marriages and families falling apart (including my own parents) it’s hard at times not to worry we will end up the same way. I trust Brian’s relationship with Christ completely and I know that we are both ready and willing to fight for our marriage. But I would love to know that others are praying for and encouraging us.

Also, I am in need of a fresh vision for my ministry. I love what I do and feel confident I’m in the position and place The Lord wants me. But I kind of feel like I’m in a rut of doing the same thing over and over. I can’t wait to see what The Lord will do in our community through our church and in our kids in our ministry!

    Thank you!!!

    Claire says:

My name is Claire, I’m 29 and in Birmingham, AL. I am finishing up my first year working in ministry and it has been a really great experience. My desire is to see college students make their faith their own…not their parents, and to be radically changed by what Christ did for them.

Personally, I have been struggling in my relationship with the Lord for about a year and a half. I have realized that I don’t ever remember feeling truly loved…not by God, by (most) friends, or my parents. I have no idea what joy feels like. I pray constantly that God will show His love to me, that I would be marked forever by it. That I would have some understanding of what Jesus did on the cross and that it would wreck me. I do my best to confess and repent of sins as often as I can, and I ask the Holy Spirit to fill me with His power. I don’t know what it tangibly looks like to ‘walk in the Spirit’. I don’t do well with abstract concepts, even though I believe everything in the Bible. I know that I am a Christian. I’m just in a rough season right now. Also, I have never had a love for people which makes ministry very difficult. I would love some prayer for that too.

I’m going on a mission trip overseas this summer and am in need of financial support. Also, if I don’t see any more monthly support come in, I won’t have a job in the fall and I am in the midst of a big financial hardship. I would very much appreciate prayers!!

Thank you Beth for your obedience to the Lord…you’ve made a HUGE impact to my spiritual growth over the last few years!!

      Tomi says:

      Hi Claire!

I’m Tomi and I am honored to get to pray for you 🙂 I am 39 and I live in Des Moines, IA with my husband and 3 children (13, 12, & 10).

I hear you sister! I. Hear. You. I spent the first few months of this year studying Galatians 5:22&23 on the fruit of the Spirit. I want it too and only God through His Spirit living inside of us can produce it in our daily living. Pray to love God above all else! I pray that as you humble yourself before Him and love Him above all else with all you’ve got, that you will live in the Spirit’s control and His fruit will be manifest in and through you.

I pray too that you will know His love and have His joy! Check out Psalm 143:8 NIV and pray it for yourself. I’ll be praying it over you as well as Romans 15:13 NIV…

Heavenly Father, cause Claire to hear your loving kindness each & every morning as she trusts in You. Cause her to know the way in which she should walk as she lifts up her soul to You. You are our God of hope and I pray You fill her with all joy and peace as she trusts in You, so that she may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

HIS Word. Spoken. Believed. Claimed. IS POWER in our lives.

      In His Amazing Love–Tomi 🙂

      • Claire says:

Thank you so much, Tomi! Just read all of Psalm 143 and it is literally what my prayer has been for I don’t even know how long. It’s reassuring to see that David, a man after God’s own heart, felt the same way I do.

    Sara says:

Hi! My name is Sara and I am 20 years old. I am currently a student at Arkansas State University. I am in nursing school, which is definitely the hardest thing I have ever done. Being a nurse has been my dream since I was a little girl. My biggest love though is Jesus. I have such a wonderful opportunity to minister to each of my patients, literally serving the least of these. I am asking for prayer in a few areas. One, that my job as a nurse and faith will be united and not separate parts of life. Two, that I will have opportunities to share with my patients. And lastly, just for strength to get through all this school and enjoy these moments that I have in college with so much freedom to serve Jesus in ways I may never get to experience again.

Sara, my name is Cindy and I’m from Kearney NE. I am a nurse and would be honored to lift you up in prayer. Nursing school can be quite a challenge. I know first hand the joy of ministering to my patients physically, emotionally and spiritually. Not all will want to hear about The Lord, but when they do it makes every second of it worthwhile. God bless you my sister!!!

Hi Sara! My name is Ellen and I live in Sevierville, TN. I would be honored to pray for you. I have been a nurse for 25 years and like you, it was my dream since childhood. I have done all types of nursing; hospital, home health, and am currently a school nurse at a primary school with around 750 students grades K-2. Hang in there with school. It is difficult, but you can do it! I can tell you that your faith will most certainly be a part of your job as a nurse. I will also pray for you that you will have opportunities to serve others through you career. Being a nurse opens up many doors to share your faith. Enjoy every minute of your life at this stage; it goes by way too fast! Praying for you, Ellen

Sara, I just wanted to let you know that I have been lifting you up every day and will continue to do so! May God bless you in your desire to know Him more, in your studies as you move ahead in your classes, and may He open your eyes to the people He is placing in your path for you to minister to. God be with you my sister!!

    Amy says:

Hi, my name is Amy, I am 25 and live in Savannah, GA. This blog post means so much to me.
I would say by far my greatest struggle and prayer request is to remain content and at peace during this season of singleness when I have desired marriage for a very long time. My older sister of 28 is in the same situation. It is deeply painful for both of us and often wonder why God continues to say “no.”
Please pray for joy in my life that only the Lord can give, and that He will help me not have thoughts of envy or bitterness.

    Thank you so much.

    Jill says:

First of all, thank you Beth/LPM for this wonderful blessing – I could definitely use some prayer. 🙂
I’m Jill ~ 29 years old, California girl, first grade teacher, married for seven years and expecting a baby girl this fall (finally!).
After losing my father to cancer two years ago, my faith was tested and I’ve only recently begun to work through the grief and pain of that loss. My father was not a believer, so the comfort that can come from a loved one’s death was non-existent.
I felt lost among friends/fellow believers who ‘didn’t understand’ and found little support from my church (despite reaching out), which led to my husband and I pulling away from church, community and, eventually, daily communication with God.
With our baby girl on the way, my husband and I both want to reignite the desire to follow God and build our family into something that honors and pleases the Lord.
Please pray for this new path (new church, making new friends, preparing for our girl) and that God will soften our hardened hearts so we can resume the relationships we once had with Him.
    Thank you. 🙂

    Kristin says:

My name is Kristin and I’m a college student from Charlotte, NC going to Liberty University studying women’s ministry. I just need prayer that my desire for the Lord would stay strong, especially in this culture, and that I would not waver in choosing things that He wants for me. I have a hard time wondering what people will think of me in my hometown, particularly, with choosing a path that not many take. Thank y’all so much!
