Picture Overload

Right after Jackson was born, my dad gave me a really nice digital camera. It’s fast and it takes pretty pictures. With my limited photography skills, I’m unworthy of having such a great camera, but I love it. Scores of parents have learned the hard way that when you’re taking pictures of squirrely kids, slow digital cameras just don’t get the job done. You say “One, two, three, cheese!”, your kid flashes an over the top grin and squints his eyes, and then five more seconds pass before it takes the picture. By then your child is either picking his nose or running to the breakfast room to make another spit drawing on the glass table top. (Not that my child does those things.) The camera my dad gave me has been such a blessing. Melissa just got one for her birthday and I can’t wait to see what she does with it.

There are two drawbacks to my nice camera. One, it’s heavy and not very fun to lug around sometimes. It’s not one that you can just tuck away in your purse in case something cute or funny happens. Two, I miss out on some good picture taking opportunities because I refuse to take it near water or leave it in my pool bag while I play with the kids. If it gets damaged or lost, I can’t replace it.

Those are the times when Mom has my back. She always says, “Honey, take mine!” Hers is a little point and shoot camera. I took her up on the offer last weekend. When I uploaded the images onto my computer, all 256 pictures that she’s never done anything with came right along with the ones I’d taken.

You may be wondering why we had never done anything with these pictures. Well, the cord that connects the camera to the computer got lost long ago and, until a few days ago, Dumb and Dumber didn’t know you could just stick the photo card straight into the computer. (There I go using bad words from my thought closet!) I wasn’t going to share this detail, but Mom insisted I let you know that she didn’t even know how to review her pictures on her camera’s little screen. Bless her heart.

Your faithful Siesta Mama and Siesta Daughter thought you might like to see a sample of the smorgasbord of pictures from the last year and a half. It’s never too late to share, right?

Here’s the back of Melissa’s head when she was doing a wedding hair and makeup trial run.

There’s a story to this but I don’t remember what it was. That was before the puppies came and obliterated the back yard. (Mom just reminded me that this was when Dad asked her if she had gotten a new makeup smock. He had no idea she was going to wear this to work.)

Here’s my dad with his two-year-old cowboy. This was the day we took Jackson to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for the first time.

I had to include this one because of Sunny.

The miniature Wranglers were just too much.

We ran into one of my best friends, Kay, and her little boy.

We’ll try that one again.

We had a lot of fun watching the baby goats. They’re so naughty.

A carnival ride.

Bibby and Jackson on the carousel.

Mom spending a few minutes in the correspondence office at LPM. The person who sent her those slippers must have just done Daniel.

Starley McFarley as a wee pup!

Bad Dog Geli laying on the furniture. Nowadays she jumps on tables. She’s very goat-like.

A deer feeder at the ranch. There were a ton of beautiful pictures from there, but I think we’ll do a separate post for them.

A view of the sunset from the ranch.

This is a statue of St. Francis of Assisi. Mom took this when Jackson stared at it and said, “Bibby, birds love Jesus.”

Here’s my family on a carriage ride last December. I was sweating in that track suit with my hot chocolate. That’s Houston for you.

Absolutely no idea.

Bibby and Jackson playing some air hockey at our church.

Jackson was making a Popeye face.

You may not know that the Chick-fil-a cow recently visited LPM.

Mom loves Chick-fil-a.

This was my mom’s birthday lunch at P.F. Chang’s. Praise the Lord.

Star on her way to work. Part of me thinks she should be in a 5-point harness.

This is what happened when Mom snubbed the perfectly good milk that had technically reached its expiration date. Dad was terribly offended.

The milk carton says, “For Keith Only” and the drawing is supposed to be a skull and crossbones. Welcome to the family freak show.

Love the milk shot and Star on the way to work —– can't wait to see what shows up at the end of next year in the camera!!!!!

As a photog with a DSLR, I know about the water and etc. – got a small point and shoot credit card size for the purse – though I always have the DSLR close!!!

I laughed so hard at this because my kids have had to help me so much with my digital camera! Just be kind to your mother and continue to help her. We in the over-50 crowd need repetition, repetition, repetition!

Seriously LOL-ing about the milk carton. My darling hubby and I JUST had that very conversation this week. He says drink it, I say toss it. Thank goodness it was Tuesday and that's "trash night". Too funny!

Oh and for what it's worth, my bird dog jumps on the counter!!! I walked into the kitchen and literally told myself out loud, "I'm not REALLY seeing this, am I?" To which Joely (our bird dog) smiled at me (I swear, she smiled!!!) and jumped down all as innocent as you please. ARGH!!! Talk about goat-like!

Great pics. Thanks so much for sharing.

One more thing! Chick-fil-A is the best "fast food" around. I love their chicken sandwich on the wheat bread.

Proud to say the restaurant chain started here in Georgia and Mr. Cathy (founder, owner) is the real deal and he has a camp for boys and taught Sunday School for years at his church. They are CLOSED on Sundays and help their teenage employees with college expenses!

Also – the best ice cream ever! Tastes like homemade. They are featuring a peach milkshake right now! YUM!

I loved the pictures! As far as the memory card in the computer-not all computers have a slot for it. The first laptop I bought 7 years ago didn't have one, but the one I've had for 1.5 years does have one. So some of you siestas may not have know that because your computer doesn't have a slot. Also, the whole expiration thing is hilarious! 6.5 years into our marriage, I'm still trying to talk my husband into drinking the milk past the "sell by" date. He can't seem to understand that surely you can drink it several days after it can be sold. That's NOT when it expires! ๐Ÿ™‚

Isn't it fun when you find random pictures that bring back a flood of "Oh, that's when…" I love finding old pics!! Thanks so much for sharing.

And by the way, Chick-Fil-A is truly the best. We don't have one in Wichita Falls anymore, so anytime we drive anywhere…we are on a chicken hunt!!!

Love the pics! By the way, in my sick sense of humor, the milk carton is my favorite one! I absolutely refuse to drink milk or let the kids have milk once it hits "the date". (They put that date on there for a reason, you know…) If my husband wants to throw up all night, he's perfectly welcome to drink it, if not, I'll throw it out. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Thanks for the laughs!

Dumb and Dumber–I'm right there with you on the digital stuff. I love the random pictures!! That was fun, I remember the one of your Mom in her 'smock' in the backyard and of course, the ones of Jackson going to the Rodeo. He was such a little Dude in those boots. I noticed, too, that the coat on the St. Francis statue is the same as our blog heading!!! Is that a coincidence?

Does Geli mind being left at home when Star gets to go to work? I bet she keeps the office working smoothly! What a great assistant she must be to Michelle!!

    Love y'all,

Oh, one more thing, my husband won't drink milk close to the exp. date either. When he was a kid, his mom forced him to eat cereal in, what she didn't know, was spoiled milk … chunks and all. He can gag today just thinking about it.

I'll be seeing you at Life Today this weekend, too, Siesta Mama, if the good Lord is willing! I've got tickets … yahoo!

Those were fun – I still like the Gandolf/St.Francis/Pseudo-Jesus looking figure with the birds.

And most of all, I'm glad to know that others in Siestaville (apparently the founders themselves) might just be as clueless as some of the citizenry (referring to self here). I have no idea how to "do" the photo side of things. I'm still just so proud of myself that I figured out how to comment on this blog.

Maybe one day I'll feel esp. smart and start my own blog. Then I'll be having myself a Smart and Smarter day. But I'm not holding my breath til then….

Have a fun last week of July,

LOL! I love the skull and cross bones. I have told my beloved husband that I will not be a bit sorry if he dies from eating ancient leftovers, etc., etc. from the fridge. (Actually, I would be sorry. I just say that to prevent him from consuming toxic stuff).

I used to work at chick-fil-a. and I STILL love the food.

We used to have to greet every person with the words
"It's a great day at chick-fil-a! How may I help you?"

Do you know it is impossible to speak those words without ending up feeling good? Even if I was upset or disgruntled when I came to work, by the time I left I would be happy and bouncy. Just proof that what we say influences our thoughts. So speak praises today siesta and see what comes of it.

Loved the pictures. I wouldn't say the Moore's are a freak show. I would say they are the typical family that enjoys life to the fullest and know how to have fun. I refuse to admit that my family is a freak show.

I have to say I love the picture of Geli on the chair. I see a bit of attitude in her face. One has to love animals with attitude.

HAAAAA!!!! I've got to say, I think in the milk situation, I'm more like Keith and my hubby's more like Bibby. I'll use eggs that are weeks old (come on, if they're cooked in something they're fine, right?), but my hubby absolutely refuses to touch anything if it's reached its expiration. Shoot, he'll throw things away several days before it expires, just to be sure. I'll have to practice drawing my skull and crossbones…they just might have to make an appearance in my fridge ๐Ÿ™‚ Love the pictures!!
