Yes, Beth Moore! Thx for that. So very good.
On and off again for 3 years (3 years!!), I’ve been trying to memorize the book of James. Can you tell that focus is not my strong suit? So frustrating. It’s not that I don’t do anything, it’s that I go chasing too many rabbits at once! Scattered rabbits, like the blocks you described. Not coincidentally, I picked up the memorizing again this morning prior to seeing this video. I would so love to bring this goal to completion, to have the Scriptures in my bones.
Anyway, what I do have memorized so far, most of the first 3 chapters, 4-5 pretty sketchily… I can testify that reciting these verses in the middle of the night has brought much peace and needed sleep to this wandering and worrying mind of mine. Thank you Jesus. Also, on the rare occasion I thought of it, a joy it has been to speak the words of life over my once-baby, now-toddler twins while rocking them to sleep. 🙂
Maybe this is just for me, but any who might hold back from memorizing Scripture (or other acts of obedience) for fear of pride, refuse to believe the lie that keeps you playing small. Humility is found in realizing that any good we ever endeavor to accomplish in memorizing, has first been stirred up in us by God. It’s his work, enabled by his Spirit, so don’t be afraid to let him do great things in you. 🙂
