You Amaze Me

This is just the quickest shout-out to say that you nearly took my breath away in your comments to the last post. I have never been so humbled and so thankful and blessed to be part of this community. If you haven’t had a chance to glance at the ministry going on between sisters in the faith, even just letting your eyes scan down the comments and seeing the interchange between the phrases,ย  “Little Sister here…” and “Big Sister here…” will put tears in your eyes. You amaze me. We are flawed people around here and all of us have some degree of brokenness but, Sisters, God formed something real in this community over the last years – something we couldn’t have conjured up with the best of plans, talent, and organization – and His Son has never been more obvious among you than in that last post. I cannot thank you enough. You mean so much to me.

I’m keeping it short because we have our big Siesta Summer Bible study post going up first thing in the morning but I want to ask you for one more thing. I am so pleased to hear from many of you that you’re agreeing to memorize Psalm 25. By all means, older sisters, join in, too, if you could really use those words in the marrow of your bones. Read it and see. Memory work is often done best in the framework of accountability. If you want to be held accountable to memorize it, would you please make a comment to this post and let us know you’re taking on Psalm 25 and what version you’re using? (The version is completely up to you! This is just to provide you a chance to sign on the dotted line, so to speak.) Some of you could also pair up and use the same version and agree on how you’re going to approach it and what Scriptures you’re taking on each week. My little sister in the faith that God used to spur on the whole previous post – remember, the one I ran into in the grocery store? – is going to memorize the same version as me so that we would be able to say it together. It just makes it extra fun and gets it done.

I love you guys so much. Now, let’s get out there and live in victory. Jesus, be obvious in Your daughters this day. This week. This lifetime. You are all to us.

Big Sister here, I could not participate in the fellowship over the weekend; my husband needed my computer for work. I am thankful for the chance share.

Little Sisters, if I had room here to share everything I have been through since committing my life to Christ 25 years ago, it would shock you. I have known somehow since the beginning that it was necessary because I was so messed up by the events of my past.

But as I sit here this day with tears running freely, surrounded by circumstances that would make most anyone speechless (advanced cancer, finances destroyed by cancer, personal appearance destroyed by cancer), I can honestly say that my life has never been better.

You see it is as we struggle to overcome, that He gives us His life in exchange for ours, the more of Him, the less of me. And His life is the only one worth having.

โ€œEnter by the narrow gate . . . . Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life . . .โ€ โ€”Matthew 7:13-14

โ€œIf we are going to live as disciples of Jesus, we have to remember that all efforts of worth and excellence are difficult. The Christian life is gloriously difficult, but its difficulty does not make us faint and cave inโ€”it stirs us up to overcome.โ€ Oswald Chambers

I am going to memorize Psalm 25 in the NKJV.

This little sister is committing to memorizing Psalm 25, NLT. I’m not currently in a season of struggle or intense spiritual warfare, but I think it’s an awesome time to build my fortress in the Word for when those struggles do come around. Psalm 25 is an excellent portion of scripture to have in my heart for even those everyday struggles. Thank you so much for the direction and encouragement, Beth and fellow Siestas.

Beth, I’m a “big” sister, but as much as I wanted to, I did not post on the last blog entry. I have been under such a spirit of oppression on and off for the last couple of months that I just didn’t have the words to say to our little sisters. Everything I could think to say, just felt phony to me that day. My spiritual gift is exhortation, and it pained me to “not” have anything I could say. As I look back on that day, I know that was satan as sure as I’m sitting here now. He fights so dirty and I just allowed him to knock me down again. If there is one thing that I have learned in this journey with my Jesus….it is this sisters….. He is always there to “have our back.” Even in the times that we don’t see it!! He loves us so very much and He has proven to me time and again that He will provide whatever provision is needed!! Thank you Beth just for being you……….you will never know this side of heaven what you have meant to me..I know that I am not alone in my feelings here. I pray that God continues to use you and your ministry for His glory!! Love you much!! Oh and P.S. my memorization skills are horrible, but I am going to attempt this Psalm 25 beginning today in the NKJV!!

I’m currently fighting breast cancer. Thanks for the encouragement to tuck the WORD in my heart. As an encouragement to others, the day I was diagnosed as I was praying God brought to mind a verse I memorized years ago but hadn’t thought on in ages. Psalm 118:17 says “I shall not die but live; and proclaim the works of the Lord”
Signing on the dotted line – will memorize Psalm 25 in the NIV ๐Ÿ™‚

Little sister here (barely). Sorry, I was too late to get in on the weekend post. We had another family crisis over the weekend. My niece overdosed yesterday. She is expected to be fine physically (the pills were the over-the-counter), but she’s going to be spending the next couple of weeks in the psych hospital and after that we don’t know. We’re worried about living arrangements for her 3yr old daughter. Just one more thing in a painful year.

I’m memorizing Psalm 25 in the ESV.

I got out the voice version, and it’s very bold. I’m not only memorizing it but painting the letters on paper to hang in my apartment. There were a couple parts of it that got me teary eyed,
“DEMONSTRATE your ways O Eternal One.
EASE me down the path of your truth.
FEED me Your word because You are the True God who has saved me.
I wait all day long, hoping, trusting in You.”

  41. 91

Yes, Beth I am memorizing Psalm 25 using the NIV 1984 version. I also asked one of my (biological) sisters if she wanted to memorize it with me and she has a agreed to as well. Even though she hasn’t memorized anything in a long time, I remember well in childhood how good she was at memorizing. One of her sunday school teachers worked at a lingerie factory and promised the girl that memorized the most a gift from there. My sister was the one. She received several gowns, pajamas and panties with the days of the week on them. I can remember it all laying out on her bed and all the family oohing and aahing over it. I know she will probably conquer the psalm long before I do, but I will try. In the past when I have memorized verses, I have been more like Barney Fife reciting the Preamble. I do have to tell you that I now have 2 index card notebooks of scripture that I go over often and that one discipline alone has helped me so much with having a peace filled mind and minimizing anxiety. The reward has been great!

Big Sister here. I use index card notebooks too and carry one in my purse. I use it to pray scripture out loud when I am in the car. It fits well on the steering wheel, so i can glance down at it often.
