Such a timely reminder! I moderate a discussion group of alumni from the Christian college to which I went. For a while a group of us have been praying that we could turn the tide of the discussion to something more positive and towards Jesus. In the last couple of weeks God has brought some of the most amazing people to the group and we have started an online discussion of the book of Philippians and we just did the passage you mention this week.

We do it a paragraph at a time and when the discussion dies down we move onto the next paragraph. It has been cool to go through the Word in that manner. There are so many hurting in our group and in need of the hope and healing only Jesus can offer.

Charlotte was amazing! Beth, your “2 words” from God to “Hold Fast” went straight to me heart. And every time I hear Travis Cottrell sing “Till He returns or calls me home…” from the song “In Christ Alone” my heart leaps and the tears start flowing.
Oh, and I’m in the 3rd picture, front row, 4 from Beth to the right in the flowery shirt. 🙂
I am so grateful that God told you to share those words on being critical with us today, especially when you talked about how you thinking of how critical someone else was made you critical. That truly hit home.
    Oh, and I’m not a lipstick girl, but I think even I could try a nude-type color… hummm…..
    Much love!

I was there!! I was there!! Beth, I want you to know that God WAS there….and He used you and Travis mightily on those two days!! Thank You for your willingness to yield to Him and for your obedience in following His direction and giving us His word! I did not participate in the Siesta meeting afterwards, because I could not remember if I needed a special ticket or invite or how it worked….Thanks to your staff and the rapid response—I will meet your next time! (Can’t wait!!)

Amazingly, I actually have that exact verse taped to the inside of my locker at work to remind me daily and to help me to avoid a critical spirit (of which I struggle greatly with!) Our God is Faithful and His word is true and because of this, I struggle less with being critical simply because His Spirit within me is constantly telling me to “STOP it!” many times before the thoughts even hit my lips. I just L.O.V.E. HIM!!Thank You God!!

Thank you for this message Beth. I live 2 hours east of Houston so I can really relate to the weather comments. As a high school teacher, I sense young negative spirits all around me. Sometimes I think this stirs a negative spirit in me because of what we have to endure throughout the school day. Thank you for that sweet reminder about Philippians. What perfect timing.
    Thank You,

Gosh, what lovely ladies, inside and out!

These pictures reminded me that we are just a part of a HUGE plan that God has for us. Thanks to everyone for the ongoing support and commitment we share in Christ!

My summer has been so much fun with my family, but not that good in the study dept…I’m so excited to begin study again in the fall!!

Thanks for the Word this evening. Still chewing on the Word you spoke in Charlotte. I was in picture #2 with the lpl t-shirt. Enjoyed the whole weekend with the siesta’s I met in Greensboro a few yrs back.

    Laura.Gruner says:

My gracious, my Siesta Mama is looking more like my much younger sister! Seriously one of my first thoughts was, “Wow, Miss Beth looks so much younger today!”

And while the dramatic eye/pale, high shine lips did something I think that fighting the critical spirit and letting God win His victory is what did it 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing God’s word, a reminder that I needed! I had memorized Phil 2:14, but not verse 15 which provides the very important reason why I am do all things without grumbling or complaining. In this world we will have trouble, and it’s not going to be easy to do all things without crumbling or complaining, but I can do all things through Christ who stregnthens me and God’s Word is alive an active in me. And praise God for His great mercy!

Much love to you, our hip Siesta Mama!

My 14 yr. old daughter and I drove from Atlanta to Charlotte last weekend and had a blast together! That morning, it was as if Satan was trying to cause me to stumble in my attitude….somehow a blue crayon landed in my dryer and got all over the dryer and clothes that were in it, so I had to take the time to clean it, my 6 yr. old messed up the bathroom I had just cleaned and then I got a speeding ticket 15 min. after I left home. I just had to laugh over it all.
We had seats up front on the floor, which were perfect. When we came back to the hotel on Friday night, we were laying in the bed and she was writing phrases of thing you had said on the hotel notepad pages. : ) I was so excited, because I knew she had heard what you said. It was a wonderfully, perfect weekend…..we were so sad that we didn’t get to stay after for the Siesta’s. Had to get on the road for our 3 1/2 hr. trip home.
Now, I LOVE the paler lips! You look younger and fresh! (Yes, my tweet to you was “younger, fuller looking lips and keep the eyes a little more dramatic so you don’t look dead” : ) Of course, you looked so beautiful on stage in Charlotte, too!

Loved the word of caution on a critical spirit and watching my attitude. I needed a reminder of that this evening. Thank you! Those words were meant for me as a great reminder! God has given me the gift of discernment and I definitely struggle with not allowing that to turn into a critical or judgemental attitude. God is really working in my life right now and I have been praying for Him to sanctify my through and through. I want there to be only Christ in me and nothing else. God is so good!!!
    I love you, Beth!!

I missed the picture and the secret gathering too! I also know of at least 4 more Siestas from here in Florence who missed the Charlotte meeting. Along with them and the others here who missed the picture there must be 100+ Siestas here in the south!!! Can’t wait to all get together! Charlotte was amazing and I continue to be reminded of the blessing!

Beth, I really do like your pale lipstick color! It looks so pretty with your blonde hair! And i notice your hair is getting longer! It’s so pretty!! Thank you for saying hi! Can’t wait to dive into James with our women’s group at church! Love you!!! Sometimes just hearing your voice makes me thrill for the Lord! Is that weird? Your voice is so synonymous with Bible study I can’t help it!

Just before listening in I printed out something that ended like this…
Did you win the day or lose it? Was it well or poorly spent? Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent?
I think I will post it on my bathroom mirror or maybe by the rearview mirror in my car or maybe both! Once again, God is getting all up in my business and making me look at things I would rather ignore. Thank you, Beth for being sensitive to what God puts on your heart. Charlotte LPL was more than I ever expected…I have been all tore up since in a hard, but good sort of way. The music, The Word, God’s presence was indescribable! I will never think of that weekend without thinking H.O.L.D.F.A.S.T

    Dear Momma Beth –
That awesome scripture was posted on a classroom wall in my boys’ school last year. I took note and thought I may post it on my wall as we homeschool in September… but now I realize it won’t be so that THEY will ‘do everything without grumbling or arguing’ –okay, that would be a bonus — but so that THEIR MOTHER can be reminded to do so! The blessings and generational impact that verse promises should be motivation enough for me!

And you are runnin’ the gloss/light shade/dramatic eyes beautifully! Hugs to Star (sooo cute) — I am praying for her mommy as you finish up those last days of James. So excited for that study!

Ugh! Let the righteous wound me and it will be counted like a kiss. Hard truths that I needed to be reminded of. Thank you, Siesta Mama, for speaking the truth in love. I hate that I didn’t get to come to the siesta meeting. I was in a group and they were not siestas and needed to get back home. I love H.O.L.D.F.A.S.T. God has set His love upon me. That is really ministering to my everyday life right now.

I just love you so much Beth! I’m so happy to be a Siesta, even though I don’t post a lot. Thanks for your word of encouragement over our attitudes, I SO needed to hear that! The only thing I can change in some situations is my attitude, with HIS help! Thanks for all you do!

Just this past weekend my sisters and I went to a Mary Kay party where it was stressed to have “dramatic eyes and pale lips”—great minds!!
Thanks for the Word–needed to hear it.
Praying as you complete your James study–and cannot wait to do it next spring.
    Love to all in Siestaville!

    Yanna Westmoreland says:

Okay I’m starting to think like Beth! When you were saying attitude. I broke it down in my head. “Att It U”
satan is at it at u when we have an attitude. Then I looked up the suffix meaning of ed (ed definition, a suffix forming the past tense of weak verbs) cause in my head I misspelled it then writing it here I saw I had the de transposed…but it still fits! I am not going to let satan get att it u to my attitude it becomes a weak verb when I do! I love me some Beth Moore. 🙂

We are looking forward to having you here in Columbus….we have been counting down the days!

Siestas, please pray for a huge spiritual harvest as we head to Camp Chautauqua next week with hundreds of kids in need of Christ. Thank you Beth for the positive attitude reminder before I head off for a week of no sleep, extreme heat and humidity, and constant girl drama. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to show Jesus off to a bunch of kids. Serving the Lord is the most fun I’ve ever had!

The following weekend after camp….Beth will be HERE!
Thank you in advance for boldly approaching the throne of grace for these great kids….see you in Columbus!

This message about the critical spirit is EXACTLY what I need to hear! The Lord has been teaching me that message all over the place… and my stubborn self has been blind to it. Criticism is such an easy and slippery trap to fall into.

Hey, I was at the NC Living Proof live along with 7 wonderful friends. I really wanted to attend the siesta meeting but we had to get on the road. It was a powerful weekend! Kristi says:

Beth, you crack me up! I love that on this blog we can debate something as silly as lipstick (which I really liked on you by the way. I’m currently trying to go from big hair to straighter hair and really struggling with it!)
and also get a word straight from God about our daily walk, all in about 8 minutes! This blog and the ladies in it feed my soul with joy, laughter, and challenges me to push for more in my Christian life.
I can’t wait for James! I’m planning the kick-off party for our Bible Study already! Any ideas out there?

    Siesta Mama –
    Love the new lipstick!
Star definitely lives up to her name.
Thank you for sharing the word about a critical spirit. I’m traveling the peri-menopausal road right now and hormonal days can do nasty things to my attitude. God is bigger than any hormone and the HS will help me be a witness.
Jesus and chocolate will get me through. *grin*

Thanks Beth! I had asked God for a word today…little did I know He would remind me of an area where He wants to “clean” up in me. Thank you for following the prompting of the Holy Spirit–I so needed that Word!

Thank you for the word today. I needed that today. Been there, done that…convicted and forgiven! My heart’s desire is to hold out that Word of Life.

    Tina says:

Can’t wait for you to get to Columbus……..Had my ticket since last September…..Bringing my Mom and a whole bunch of friends……..Hopefully I’ll see the screen about the picture and be there for that too. Thanks also for the word about a critical spirit…..I needed to hear it, that is me these days. There are a couple people in my family that I am way too critical of, I know this but haven’t wanted to stop. Now I know it’s time to get serious about my attitude and quit worry about them. God always knows what I need to hear and when I need to hear it. Thanks Beth for letting him speak through you. See ya in Columbus.

    G.J. says:

Beth – Girlfriend, you are always hip and current and that is the truth. You looked especially pretty today!

Also you spoke a true word to me and something that I as a pastor’s wife battle…a sometimes critical spirit. I do have the gift of discernment and the first sign to my heart is when I get a whiny-hiney point-the-finger critical attitude. It is “nit good.” I will say that fatigue contributes to this attitude, but more than anything it is lack of prayer and being in the Word. Praise helps me so much!

Gran Jan time is a great healer of my spirit too! Last night Zeke spent the night and he said right before bedtime, “Gwan Jan, put my cup on your nightstand so I can have it in the morning before we have coffee…”
    He is a delight!

Much love to you my friend,
    G.J.

i am goimg to columbus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a tad excited can you tell? This will be my first live event and I am beside myself to see what Jesus is going to do. Much need a refreshing with other sisters after a challenging but overwhelming blessed summer. How will I know where to meet the other siestas??? Is there a code?? haha if not – we should make one!!! Love and prayers as it is crunch time!! May the Lord strengthen you all as you finish the race He has set before you!!

    Missy S says:

    Hey Beth,

So great to hear from you! First things first, that top you have on in the video is ADORABLE!! Love it so much! (Haha – priorities, jk!)

Now, for the truly more important, I was blessed to attend Charlotte w/ my mom & mother-in-law, and it was so wonderful. (My mom & I are in picture #3.) Anyway, the “HOLD FAST” message could not have been more timely for me. You see, the last season of my life had been a wilderness season, where I was begging God and trusting God to bring me to my Promised Land. Then, I finally reached Gilgal earlier this Spring. And, since then, for some reason, it was as though I plopped down on the edge of the Promised Land, refusing to go any farther. I had been praying for God to bring me to the Land for so long, and when it finally came to the point of doing the hard work in order to “take the land,” I became complacent. I’m sure the “Up, Resume” word spoke to many people in Charlotte, but I have no doubt that God intended it specifically for me!! He is so faithful to speak right into our circumstances! What a great God we serve!

Love you! And praying for you & Melissa as you complete Mercy Triumphs!

    Katie says:

    Hey Mrs. Beth,
Just to let you know…..My 4 yr. old (who is extremely current) is in love with bright lipsticks!! She doesn’t ever go out in public without hot pink lips! If we get in the van to go out and she has forgotten it, she will insist I give her some lipstick from my purse before we get to where we are going. I love that precious little girl! She is nothing but pure joy. I have two little boys, and while they are precious to me, she is my girlfriend and I am SOOOOO glad I have her!!!!

  45. 145

    Crazy about you too Beth!!

That Word really resonated with me. I am normally a very upbeat Sanguine personality but for the last couple of days I have felt really critical(no, I don’t have the monthly excuse right now 🙂 )

On a different note. I have dark hair and fair skin. I have never ventured toward pale lips. I am going to give it a try!
Wonder what the best pale lip color is for me. Anyone have any suggestions?!?!

    Kimberly says:

    Beth,

I am SUPER EXCITED for COLUMBUS!!!!!! I’ve had my tickets since last September. My husband, mother, friend and possibly daughter are coming. I am sure that God will be there with a word for me! I have never left an event that God hasn’t spoken to me. In Pittsburg two years ago you spoke on “The Perfect Storm”. At that time I was on the edge of one. God used that weekend to help me to understand that He is always in control and will take us through whatever storm we face. Looking back now, I see the plan and purpose and can state with confidence Romans 8:28 “all things work together for good”.

I believe in the deepest part of my soul that He has something for me again this year because He never fails to bless me! He is so faithful.

Love you and your lipstick! You look beautiful no matter what. I can’t wait to see you!!!!

Loved hearing from you again! I must say that your comments on having a “critical spirit” were words I needed to hear. I too have become critical in some areas of life. Now you have given me a new area to focus on in my walk with Christ, Thank you Beth!

Pale lipstick: I do love it on you. I think we are probably close in age and I too have tried it, oh how I miss my lip liner, :O(

Your sweet “Star” is adorable. What would we do without our pets.

Well I must get to work now on my current spirit. Prayers for you and your team as you minister in Ohio!

    Beth,

SOOOOO looking foward to seeing you in Columbus, OH—we are Buckeyes here—some say it’s a “worthless nut” but I just say we are nuts and crazy about Jesus and life!!!!
Blessings to you as you continue to get the Word that God has for you to give to us!! He is such a personal, loving, involved in each of our lives God!!! Ohh, Wow!Will be sweet to see and meet other Siestas in Ohio. I’ll be coming with a fellow siesta and many Beth study friends.

Thank you so much for that! It was so good to hear 🙂
I believe I will be trying the lip gloss.. it looks great on you!
I LOVED Charlotte! We didn’t get to stay after, but so wish we had. I haven’t stopped thinking about this past weekend and catch myself singing “H.O.L.D F.A.S.T God has set his love upon me” all the time!
