Just Saying (an obviously sleepy) Hello

Siesteville from LPV on Vimeo.

Hey, Sweet Things! Amanda, Melissa, and I are on a night-or-two-close-by-getaway and we watched that silly video together last night and nearly laughed till we cried over how tired that woman was. The irony was that I actually thought I had rested up a bit. (And said so.) I could hardly put two words together. BUT, it was done with love! If not brain cells! You are good sports.

Martha, My heartfelt prayers go out for Robert and his mama Nina. I have a friend whose son has had two bone marrow transplants in his young life. I know there are so many complications that can occur with these surgeries. He had one at age 7 and another at age 15. So far he is doing well. Bless you Martha for being a prayer warrior on Robert’s behalf.

Martha, I’m praying for that little family. For healing for this child and peace for his family and friends.

I too had a friend who had a 5 year old with Leukemia. She is now a grown woman with a daughter and a Degree in Nursing.

The greater the problems, the more mercy He shows. Jesus is there so Miracles can flow.

Love the jacket! Thank you for letting us partner with you in the study through prayer. So cool that as we’re praying for you, God is writing/speaking through you things that we will need later.

So cool too that God gave you ideas for the set and directly told the set guy exactly how to build it. If y’all need help with those in the future, let me know. I would love to work on that.

We’re crazy about you too, Beth! <3 πŸ™‚

    Beth-

Thank you for letting us know about the POWERFUL work of the Holy Spirit!!! It is so encouraging to hear about the awesome things that happen when we pray.

Coming from a traditional church background it tickled me to hear you talk about using oil to be a symbolic representation of the Holy Spirit’s annointing. Using Crisco just topped it off πŸ™‚

Praising God today as my daughter is graduating from Trinity International University in Illinois this weekend. Beth, Absolutely can’t wait for James study. Feel so privileged that I had the opportunity to pray for you and the ministry as you worked to complete it. I have come to truly appreciate the intimacy of prayer and long for more. Crisco oil story made me laugh out loud. Now I think I’ll use it to annoint my kitchen for Momma. Momma does most of the cooking because I’m afraid of the stove! Well, just wanted to say thank you for the sweet message and love you! Hugs, Lynda

I love it when I can see & hear u. Isn’t it amazing how accustomed we can get to the faces & voices of those we love? Funny story……
I walked into wk at my church last week & heard a recording of you coming from some office somewhere in the distance down the hall. I blurted out “Ah. Someone’s watching Mama.” Everyone just chuckled & one person commented that I always blog & speak about & quote u in a way that I would talk about one of my best friends. I laughed as I realized you ARE one of my best friends. Only in the Kingdom of Jesus do we get to say that about people we’ve never even met yet. Dude…….that’s just rad!

I know what you mean, Elisabeth. My friends went and saw Beth one time and I happend to pass her in the hall. Beth is so familiar to me, that when I saw her my first thought is that she was one of our group.

I almost told her, “Hurry up, Beth is about to start!” Now I wish I had run over and hugged her. Oh well, one day in heaven we All will hug for all eternity.

    Hey Beth,

We had a similar anointing oil experience at my church a number of years ago. An interim pastor’s wife asked to be anointed and apparently didn’t give any warning of the request. So, while the worship service was in process, my brother and one of the deacons ransacked the church to see if anybody actually had any. They came up with motor oil, cooking oil and even baby oil (from the nursery), but no anointing oil. I have no idea what they settled on.

We’re a little better about such things now, but I can imagine the consternation as they tried to figure out what kind of oil to bring you! I’m sure the Crisco worked just fine.

    • 26.1
      diane Bailey says:

I’m laughing about the idea of the Motor Oil. And I love to hear about a man who is so passionate for the Lord that he would go all out to find what the Lord had provided for that moment.

    Heather Smith says:

    Hi Beth-
As I was watching the video, my 4 year old son came in and asked who you were. I answered without thinking, “My friend, Beth.” He said, “Oh. Does she go to our church?” πŸ™‚ My answer was too complex for his little mind… “Sorta…. she teaches a lot of us at church, and we love her like she is one of us.”
I guess that sums up how I feel… It was like chatting with an old friend as you shared what our prayers meant last week! And even though we only met briefly at one event, I know you understand how I could honestly answer that in one way you are my friend. Funny how Bible study and a blog do that!!
Thank you for pouring your everything out last week to serve. And thank you God, for answering our prayers and doing what only You could do.
I can’t wait to do James!!

Thanks Beth, for your kindness and love for this community…it really is a blessing.

Hi Beth! I LOVE YOUR STORY ABOUT THE CRISCO OIL! I teach first grade. Each year I anoint my room prior to students entering. A month into the year, I was given a “Very challenging” boy. After the first day ended, I felt God nudge me to anoint my room once again. I had no oil…but I did have hand sanitizer! πŸ™‚ I lifted it up to God and said, “I hope this is okay and not disrespectful”. On the contrary…it seemed like the perfect item to use for the situation. HE ANSWERED BIG TIME, and we’re almost done with the school year.

I think HE may have enjoyed a good laugh!

Just wanted to let you know I am leading Kelly Minter’s “Ruth” right now with my small church in Missouri. I am using some of your archived messages and some of Kelly’s taped messages. I am so glad you leave the archived blogs out there. We just discussed weeks 3 and 4 last night and it was one of our best discussions. This group tends to be very quiet so some times it is hard but last night was such a blessing. I really felt God in the room with us.
Can’t wait to do “James” with you.

    Angel Haynes says:

I think the heaviness of Crisco must represent the heavy anointing of God on the taping!

Our church finished James a couple of months ago and turned us all upside down. We then heard a series that was titled Blessed Are the Merciful and now we are heading into Ruth. God is blowing our minds with what He is teaching us about mercy and believe He is asking us to start significant ministries of mercy to the poor, widow, orphan, and immigrant in our city. It is overwhelming and we are having to trust God like never before. So good! Can’t wait for the study to come out because I believe God will use it to continue to confirm what He’s currently doing in our midst!

    Kathy B says:

Well, the Crisco explains that funny stain on my clothes. JK. But I did have the sheer delight of joining you on Thurs evening. And may I share something I’ve never had this perspective to know (seeing as how I’m braggin’ and all)?

I’m one among many who’ve sat in class and watched you on video for going on twelve years now. But this was my first experience at a Bible study taping. And the thing that impressed me was that all these years, each time I’ve felt like I was right there in the room with you and God was relaying the full emotion and power of His Spirit, I wasn’t just imagining it. Somehow God really had translated the full “punch” of the lesson to each and every video learner in full measure to what He had poured out on the live audience. As I live and breath. Doesn’t our God just beat all?

Is that what you call boasting in the Lord? I sure hope so. And seriously, Beth I appreciate in a new way just how much self sacrifice you put into these sessions. May I thank you on behalf of the darling gals that, Lord willing, I’ll have the privilege of studying James alongside next year.

      Beth,
As you were sharing here about working through James and that it is difficult and that you are tire. Girlfriend our ladies understand. We studied through James Precept upon Precept. It was a wonderful study and we learned so much! At the same time it was grueling because it stepped on our TOES!! We were challenged to see where our temptations and sin start and to deal immediately. We say the responbibility we have as Christians. We learned to “count it all joy” during our trials and temptations because God is doing a work in us. Even now we will just look at each other and say count it all joy.
I look forward to your study of James!

Of course, I know it’s not “work” but doing God’s will and His work is soooo enjoyable. I cannot wait for the James study to be released. I absolutely love the book of James. James was my favorite Bible study I taught to my 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class. It was a Precept study by Kay Arthur on James entitled “Boy have I got problems!” and God worked in a mighty way with the children…it was incredible!! What a blessing to be able to be a small part in what God is doing in the lives of women. Which spills over onto all those around. Thank you, thank you for your commitment to teaching women God’s word and teaching us to apply it to our lives.
