Just in a Visiting Mood

Hey, Siestas! I just printed out Day 1 of Week 5 of the James manuscript (ultimately, there will be seven weeks of homework, God willing) and decided to take a few minutes before I dive into the next thing. Actually, I wish we could just sit and talk for a little while. I’m in a chatty mood. One day soon we’re going to figure out how we can do some informal live streaming video and skype some of you guys on here. Wouldn’t that be fun? I have one of my trusty coworkers looking into that right now and I’ll keep you posted.

I’m working from home today because Keith is out for the day and two dogs are WAY too many to take to the office. Talk about mass pandemonium. Geli (Keith’s bird dog) is big enough to jump the back fence at the office and, when I bring her inside, she decides that any toy Star picks up is exactly the one she’s always wanted and barks her head off with that really jealous kind of yelp. So, I’m home today and getting to take a break right at my very own breakfast room table. (And dining room table and all-purpose visiting table and our only table.)

I wish you were sitting right across from me and, while we were taking our Bible study break, I’d fix you some of this, too.

That’s one of my favorite afternoon snacks. It’s actually tea instead of coffee because it goes so well with the Milano Cookies. I dip them into the hot tea so the chocolate melts and then I hold it on my tongue until it disintegrates. Yum. That sounded so good that I’m stopping for another bite. Lord have mercy. I’m so glad He gave us tongues.

Amanda is the one who got me started on a spot of tea. (Just a small spot. Not a true devotee.) She never got into the coffee mania of renown with her sister, father, and me but we were ecstatic when she developed taste buds for hot tea while she and Curtis lived in northern England. She took to their very basic (cheap) variety and it’s a good thing because it’s easy to get here in the States. I keep a box of it in the cabinet at all times so she can have tea when she’s over while Lis and I have coffee.

As I sit here sipping tea, these are a few of the thoughts rolling around in my bleached blond head…

How much I loved what I got to see earlier on a stroll by myself:

I totally dig turtles. They’re such a mixture of hard and soft.

How I love looking at Star after she’s been to the groomer. I took her today for her second hot-weather cut. Once I realized she wasn’t going to be shamed by it (grin), I asked them to go a little shorter. She’s just darling. Looks just like a puppy. I wish you could see her tail because they left it really fluffy. It looks so odd that I can’t quit grinning at her. I keep telling her that I’m laughing with her and not at her but that’s what my girls say to me and I know better.

How fresh this verse is hitting me. It came up in my quiet time yesterday (out of the fifth week of “Brave”) and I thought how much that one half-a-verse answers. Just think about it! Revel in a pure-dee NEVER, EVER! In a life of grays, give me some black and white! I took it to staff prayer time yesterday and we worked on memorizing it together.

One by one we coworkers mentioned various concerns we had, all the way from personal to global issues, then we followed each one up by saying the verse together in unison. We truly felt the power of God fall on us. Then we played a goofy word game. On rare occasion, I feel just devious enough to see if I can bring out the friendly spirit of competition in my very godly staff members. I was feeling it yesterday. I had printed multiple copies of the verse out in a big font and in as many different colors as I had coworkers. I then cut out each word, threw them all in a bag, shook them up then, after our lesson, poured them out on the table in a big mess and said, “GO!” They had to choose a color (some shades were gleefully similar) and arrange each word of the verse in order. As I explained the objective and was just about to pour them out, one of them said in a frenzy, “Are we trying to see who can do it the fastest?” No, I said. But I wouldn’t mind if you tried. And it was a free for all. Made me really laugh. It’s a wonder they didn’t draw blood. Love them so much.

Let’s see what else has been going through this head…

How I cannot BELIEVE that we are going to see THIS SIGHT TONIGHT:

TOO MUCH!!!!!! Amanda has cried two dozen times and I’ve cried one dozen. Curtis is so proud he can’t stand it but he’ll bite his lip bloody trying not to join Amanda and I in our sappiness. Our man-child! We’ll have a kindergarten student in three short months. Good grief. Somebody stop how fast this is going! He is one of the most wonderful things that has ever happened to this family. So full of life. So hilarious. So BIG in all his feelings and reactions. He left these by Melissa’s old bed last week when he went to sleep at our house and I can’t bring myself to move them one single inch.

And, lastly, BUT FAR FROM THE LEAST, I am thinking about hopping on that plane and heading to Eden Prairie, Minnesota this weekend for Living Proof Live.

I am so excited about this one! (I know you’re thinking “You say that every time,” but somehow God stirs up a unique brand of anticipation in my heart for almost every single one. Sometimes it comes from pain. Sometimes from joy. Sometimes it comes from passion for a Word burning a hole through me but it always comes with a feeling toward that event in particular. Only Jesus can do that.) God began speaking to me about the subject matter a week or so ago and I’ve been trying to listen hard and wide. I’m sad to say that we won’t have a ticket giveaway this week because this one blew our minds by selling out a while back. We’re in a church this time so there’s not the seating of an arena but it’s still a whopping forty-three hundred women. Make no mistake. That is a big group! Anything past 200 gives me a serious case of butterflies and, if there are any men in the less-than-200, that gives them to me worse. Give me girls, Lord.) We are thrilled to be in a sanctuary and cannot wait to meet the group God is drawing. Any time an event sells out, we think, “Wooooo-EEEEEE!” (Hear that like Jed Clampett) “If God has stirred up that kind of expectation, He must be up to something! We don’t want to miss Him for the world!” Well, OK. I’m probably the only one that actually says “woooo-eeeee” (well, Travis – AKA Jethro – does, too) but we all feel a blast of anticipation if that body of believers shows a heightened expectation of God in any discernible way. If they’re especially excited, so are we!

Well, look what’s gone and happened:

I guess break time is over but, man, you were good company while it lasted. I think of you everyday. I’m so proud of you guys for pursuing Jesus amid the train wrecks and derailments of life that I hardly know what to say. He is so worthy, Sisters. He is so worthy.

Keep turning your eyes to the skies…

“For You, Lord, have NEVER forsaken those who seek You.”

    Beth,
Thanks for the verse. I have it taped to my computer today as I anxiously await tomorrow when I drive up to see you with my small group ladies. I have been blessed to see you before, in Chicago, and now I get to share the time with some friends who, I know, will be so excited to hear the Word of God and see you for the first time in person! But most of all I am excited to see what God has laid on your heart. Your messages touch me so deeply and I am so thankful for you. Thanks Beth! Be safe in your travels!

    Beth,

Just read your post while I am eating my lunch and running a file. Thank you for sharing the verse and your thoughts.

So looking forward to seeing you Saturday in Eden Prairie. We got quite a number of God’s G.A.L.S. coming in our new light blue t-shirts.

    Blessings to you,

Speaking of tongues…mine is numb right now from the dentist this morning. And it really irritates me as I’m trying to eat (swallow down) some lunch! Which has to be rice and beans for now since it’s soft.

I do love milanos….and would be so excited to Skype with you! However, I do think during the school year would be more fun lest the kiddos interrupt. Maybe you’d think that would be more fun… 🙂

I am trying to pick a Summer Bible study since LPM is not hosting one =( for my back porch Bible Study girls and I need advice. I have LOVED the last two years of the LPM blog choices because they were easy to do without a dvd package. I need suggestions of studies that are made to use the Member Books without the dvd’s. I did No Other Gods by Kelly Minter last fall and it would have been perfect! So I am sad that I did it already. Can anyone suggest something??? I was looking at “Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed: A Study of David” with Beth, Pricilla and Kay but I don’t know if it will work without the dvd’s.

    Thanks for any suggestions Siestas!

I needed this verse this morning…..a family member has developed a mental illness over the past few years and no longer speaks to me….. I needed this verse not for me………but for her. In her healty days she sought the Lord with all of her heart. I know that even in her illness….He will not forsake her. A word. A word from the Lord this morning. I am so grateful.

Beth, thank you for all you do for us. There are days when I don’t think I will make it. When I read your blog, your thoughts/words pull me out of the pit and I know I can go on. God has used you in a great way in my life for many years, and I am soooo thankful!!!

I am going to facilitate Vicki Courtney’s “Get a Life” study in my home this summer. Last summer we did Kelly Minter’s “Ruth” study and we all loved it. We will begin after Memorial Day, take a week off for VBS in June, and finish at the end of July. We are all excited!! We enjoy getting together, especially to study God’s Word.

I have enjoyed your bible studies so much & even use you in my S.S. lessons. especially when you say “and GOD spoke to me” the 1st time I heard that was during the B.S. “Jesus the One and Only” I thought “how come God talks to her. I want God to speak to me to!” it took some time for me to realize HE does speak to me in my heart. But I do want to tell you of the time HE did speak audibly to me. 8 mnths ago I was trying to decide whether to quit work or not. had asked my S.S. to pray for me for over a year. Even went & checked out filing for early social security. was at Church labor day weekend sitting in a pew when I heard the word “NOW” I looked around to see who had said it & no one was there. then when I repeated “NOW” the greatest weight lifted from my shoulders. I was on such a high for 2 weeks that I got sick & even ended up with pneumonia. but it was worth it. So now I can say “GOD spoke to me” & know that HE can in my heart & in my Head & in my ear. Isn’t that something. Can’t wait for Deeper Still in Louisville Ky Thanks again for all you do. God Bless

Thank you from a siesta that sometimes feels she is hanging on by the tips of her chewed off nails to a splintery windder (that’s window to some of ya’ll) sill (and that word right there has at least 2 syllables). My current roller-coaster ride is bearable only due to Jesus. There are so many miracles stuck in the middle. GOD is just so precious to me now. Thank you for pointing HIM out. You are often like the friend who will say “well what do you know, look at that…” and there HE will be just watching me grow. I am growing a garden right now and I just watch those seeds. Dear Beth,
Thanks for taking that break with us. I totally identified with the preschool graduation celebration (and tears). Our grandson graduated from preschool this past Wednesday evening and one of the parts that moved us all to tears was that when they were giving the kiddos their certificates, they told what the children said they wanted to be when they grew up. Children are such fun. It ranged from Supergirl to Ironman to various professions. Our grandson said he wanted to be a youth minister (our son, his dad, is a youth minister). I looked over at my son and tears glistened in his eyes. And all our eyes.

Praying for you and all the team and ladies (and men) who will be attending LPL in Eden Prairie, MN. God bless you all!

just how do you get to the place of expectation? i dont have any doubt that God can and does do amazing things as well as ordinary things but i have every reason to doubt that He would do them for me. that isnt to say that i expect Him to jump when i say jump (though i guess sometimes i do) but i would like to have that expectancy of answered prayer without always expecting the answer to be no, are you out of your mind, or how stupid can you be.

and by the way… i looked for lipstick print on the tea cup. i thought if i squinted my eyes i could see the teensiest bit on the very rim but that must be some good extra long lasting lipstick. i guess that is how stupid i can be.

Thanks for the Words from the Lord. You have inspired me in that the Bible has once again become a Living, Breathing Word of Life to me- a welcome change from the lukewarm complacency that I had fallen into with regret. I enjoyed your little “visit” over a cup of tea this morning….from TX to NJ. I totally relate to the wonder of watching a child graduate…only mine is graduating high school, my oldest daughter. She lives up to the name that the Lord led us to give her 18 years ago…Sarah Joy. She has been a constant joy to my heart, and I am struggling with the thought of her leaving home, and spreading her wings. I know she has firm faith in God (which she has shown to many, not just her Mom through many church ministries.) but just knowing what life can hold brings fear to this mama’s heart. I wish she was still that little girl that a bandaid and a kiss could heal all wounds. Okay, becoming a weepy-eyed sap right about now, so I’ll hush. Thank you again. I appreciate your ministry. I have spent many hours these past few months in a struggle of cancer, ministry (I’m a pastor’s wife), and other “issues,” but your ministry has proved to be a great encouragement. God bless you.

Praise God for speaking through you – we must guard against Spiritual Attention Deficit Disorder – Yes! Thank you again for taking me to the mountain top. I just returned home from the conference. I am overwhelmed with processing everything I learned and experienced! Worship was so powerful. I was blessed to be among the 4300, and will be reading my notes over and over to really absorb and put into practice everything Beth taught. I love sitting under her gifted teaching.
The visual of the braid -vs- all in one binder will help me to remember the point forever.
Thank you for coming to Minnesota!

    Precious Beth,
Had the incredible delight of sitting in the very tip top balcony section of Grace in Eden Prairie, MN this weekend to hear you make famous the name of our Jesus of Nazareth.

When my three dear girlfriends and I bought tickets ages ago I had no idea that it would be one of my last weekends in MN before the Lord moves my family to New England. No idea that I’d be so tangled up because the pressures of packing up my ridiculously blessed life amidst my darling (and active!) little girls that it would indeed feel like life was about to kill me.

But the Lord knew. By Saturday afternoon (after we’d laughed ’til we cried the night before having the biggest bunch of fun in a local hotel) my girlfriends and I found ourselves before the Lord’s throne committing to put and end to the distractions that keep us from true and vital intimacy with Him. We know that we know that we can do this thing well and may your sweet head be richly blessed for all that you poured out to us in truth, affirmation, and absolute anointing from our dear Father.

I head east knowing that I bring my siestas with me — my Siesta Mamma with me, too 🙂 And looking for opportunities to bless the name of the Lord in one of the most liberal parts of our nation.

Blessed by the name of the Lord.

    Your Untangled Siesta

Beth – my husband introduced me to PG Tips when we were dating and tea has never been the same since! I’m a tea or coffee gal, but PG Tips is my favorite of all. And on another note – that verse shot through me like a rocket. Thank you for the reminder. Blessings to you!

Oh Beth how I love these posts of bits about what is going on…

LOVE PG TIPS!!! I did my internship in England in 2000…I also LOVE it…along with some good ol’ English Cadbury chocolate…not the eggs!!!

I went to the Cadbury factory during my time there and they gave us nearly a dozen free candy bars during our visit AND have a ride similar to It’s a Small World at Disney…

    Anyhow, thanks for sharing!

OH!!! Also, I got an iphone and was stoked to download my Siesta Scripture memory app…LOVE IT!

Also…somehow I posted this under the wrong account and wanted to repost…SORRY!
