Siesta Summer BIble Study III Launch
Video greeting from Kelly Minter
_______________
I can’t believe the blog has been around long enough for us to be having our third annual Siesta Summer Bible Study! Wow! We had an amazing time studying Kelly Minter’s No Other Gods in 2008 and Jennifer Rothschild’s Me Myself and Lies in 2009.
It’s finally time to announce the book that we’ll be going through together in the summer of 2010 – Kelly Minter’s Ruth: Loss, Love & Legacy! We’re thrilled that Kelly has written another study and can’t wait to dive into it with all the Siestas.
Let me fill you in on some details.
Who: As before, we want you to assemble a group of in-real-life friends, co-workers, family members, acquaintances, church family, Siestas in your town, neighbors, or whatever mix of ladies God puts on your heart.
What: Spend the summer together in the Word! Our workbook (also called a “member book”) is a 6-week Bible study on the Book of Ruth. We will meet every other week to discuss two weeks of our homework.
When: We are partial to Tuesday since that’s our normal night for Bible study at LPM. So we will launch our SSBS3 on Tuesday, June 22, and “meet” every other Tuesday until August 3. Yes, you can meet another day of the week if necessary but you’ll see when the time comes that it’s the most fun when we all do it on the same day.
I’ll give you the basic schedule now so you’ll know what to expect but Beth will have much more to say about it closer to the time of our launch. If we don’t answer your questions now, save them and see if they get answered within the next several weeks.
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 (1st Mini-Session/LAUNCH/Group instructions)
(DO WEEKS ONE AND TWO OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)
Tuesday, July 6, 2010 (2nd Mini-Session/Group Instructions)
(DO WEEKS THREE AND FOUR OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)
Tuesday, July 20, 2010 (3rd Mini-Session/Group Instructions)
(DO WEEKS FIVE AND SIX OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)
Tuesday, August 3, 2010 (4th Mini-Session/Conclusion)
Where: Wherever you are most comfortable. Kelly’s workbooks are part of the Living Room Series. Her core group of ladies meets in her living room and they always share a meal together. In fact, you’ll find recipes in the workbook if you’d like to use them. We think that’s a really fun part of the experience. The first summer my group met in a different house each week and last summer we met in the same house each week. We’ve had some siesta groups meet in restaurants and coffee shops. Do whatever works for you and your ladies.
Why: A summer lived in Bible study is one lived in victory!
How:
1. Get your workbooks. LifeWay will have plenty of them for us, but you won’t want to wait until the last minute. You can find them online on LifeWay’s web site and on Kelly Minter’s web site.
2. Assemble your small group. You are more than welcome to participate solo or with an online discussion group, but for the sake of richest fellowship and best accountability, try as hard as you can to enlist three or four other women to meet with you every other Tuesday. Let the ladies know that the gatherings will be low on stress and high on much needed fellowship and rich discussion. Keep the emphasis on a relaxed and refreshing atmosphere where you can develop some wonderful relationships in Christ.
3. Sign up on the blog on our official Launch Day- Tuesday, June 22. We’ll ask you a few fun questions about your group.
4. Beth will facilitate the study by posting 15-minute videos on the mornings our meeting days. They will have instructions for discussion questions and activities that will be based on the previous two weeks of study. The videos will be like the ones you’re used to seeing on this blog – very casual and homemade! The idea is to incorporate the videos into the beginning of your meeting times if possible. In case the video aspect of the study doesn’t work for you, you will also find the discussion questions typed out on the blog.
5. After your gathering, you’ll check back in by telling us something about your meeting via a comment on that same post. Don’t worry if your group can’t meet on Tuesdays. You’ll still be able to find the post and comment throughout the week.
What if:
-I want to use the discussion questions in the back of the workbook instead of the ones on Beth’s videos. Go for it!
-I really, really want to do the study but it’s not in the budget. Email me.
–I’ve already committed to doing another Bible study this summer? That’s great! Stick with it.
-I don’t want to participate but still want to be a part of the blog. We totally understand and want to see you around Siestaville this summer. Know that the Bible Study will only take up one post every other week.
We look forward to getting started next month!
Love,
Amanda
I have never done an online study before, can someone explain how this works and if there is any costs outside the members book? My Bible study group is very interested in this. Thank you.
I’m so excited about this study! I work from home (all alone except for my two canine office-mates!) and I love how the Internet connects me with so many others… it’s like one big virtual office party!
I’d also like to do the study in-person, and am looking for any others who might be doing the study in the Fleming Island/Green Cove Springs area of Northeast Florida. Please let me know (you can email me if you’d like, at thecaldwells(at)me(dot)com)
I have a group of friends who are getting together on Tuesday nights at my workplace …..looking forward to working through this with the rest out there in cyber space
Would LOVE to do this. Already formed a group of women that were going to meet for the summer, we just didn’t know what we were going to do. I popped on here for the first time ever today and saw this–awesome!
I’m sure they’ll be excited about it too. Count us in!
Seven of us here in Lakeway are looking forward to next Tuesday!
I’m in! Anyone in the Pingree Grove, Huntly, Hampshire, Elgin, IL area?? I’d love to hear from you!
looking for a group….Jacksonville, Fl
I consider myself a Siesta although I don’t know how to set up a blog. My question is how do I show the video from the computer onto my t.v. for our group?
Thanks!!!!
Setting your laptop up on the tv was essentially easy, but difficult find the right cords etc. If you have your tv manual, it might walk you through it. I used VGA cords to connect. Then the only problem I had was turning the VGA on, on my laptop. I found using the function button plus f8 key turned it on. That might just help you.
Freeport IL, couple of ladies looking forward to this study…just recieved the book on Friday…we’re ready when you are, blessed this summer.
I have my book and I am ready in Orlando, FL for my Bible Study. I just finished SLI and I am happy to start a new study. I am also reading Breaking Free in preparation for my Fall Bible study which will be the new Breaking Free study. I am so glad to be able to stay in God’s Word because I know how helpful it is to our Daily living. Thanks Beth for all you do for us women.

OK…I have a quick question for those of you who have done this before. Our small group will get together tomorrow (Tuesday) for our first session. Where will we find Beth’s opening video, and will it be ready by 1:00 pm edt time? There are 5 of us, we were originally a small group 3 years ago and now we’re back together. I’m so excited to be with them and with all of you too!
You will find the opening video right here on the blog early tomorrow morning and in plenty of time for your gathering. So happy to serve you and your small group, Noelle!
Anyone in the Atlanta (GA) area who would like to get together?

Hi Deirdre,
Thank you for your response. I live in the Dunwoody area and work near Cumberland Mall. I’m not sure when your gatherings are and I appreciate the invitation, but I don’t know if I would be able to make the meetings because of where I am located.
I pray that your recovery from surgery be speedy!
Kimberly
Looking forward to the launch of the study tomorrow! Trying to confirm with a couple of Sunday School friends and a friend who lives away on how we will “connect” to do this. Everyone has crazy schedules in the summer and it is difficult to find a time when all can physically meet; may have to resort to a new adventure for all of us – doing an online discussion; hope to get it worked out today!
I can’t wait!
Kelly Mentor study HERE WE SIESTA’S COME!!!!!!!

I am starting a women’s group at my church and this is our first study. We will be a week behind you, but happily following along.
I cannot find the feeds, videos, questions, etc. maybe I am to early. We are really excited to begin.
Ruth was the first book of the bible that I read, I had to borrow a bible to read it as I did not have one of my own. Hard to believe.
I thought I published something yesterday, but can’t seem to find it . . . so here we go again. I’m so excited to do this study!!!! I had planned on doing it solo, but after talking to a friend yesterday I think she’s going to join me. God works in amazing ways b/c I was telling my husband the day before that was what I was going to miss most was the one on one discussion. Praise God!
I am so excited about this Bible Study on the book of Ruth. My daughter and I are doing it together online because she lives in Long Island and I live in Tennessee. This came at just the right time for both of us,since we both just finished a bible study, and we really needed another one for summer. Thanks, Beth, Kelly, and all involved in this. I know God will greatly bless you guys. Love you dearly, my sisters in Christ.
Hi, I am here in Los Angeles (SFV) and I just watched the video. I am doing the SSBS with my 84 year old Mom and my Sister in Port Angeles, Washington. My sister and I are woking on getting our two adult daughters to join. A three generational perspective could be fun and insightful!
That is so cool, Sister.
We began the journey in Ruth today in the tip of the mitt of Michigan! There are 5 of us and our ages range from 30 to 40 to 50 to 60! How is that for diversity? We were knit together by God in the past and He is bringing us together for His purposes again. Our keywords were, transition, adventure, waiting and perplexed. We are all looking forward to seeing what God has for us in the future and how He will be using our past in ways we can’t even imagine. He is the ultimate teacher and healer and we are excited to do this with Him and all of you.
I am looking forward to starting!
Help!!
I ordered my book (through the local Christian bookstore) 3 wks ago and it still hasn’t come in. I checked yesterday and they said that the Canadian distributor for Lifeway still has not received the books in their warehouse. Please pray that they will come in soon.
I’ve spoken with a few other Canadian women who are hoping to do the study so I guess we are all in the same boat with no books.
Do you know if Lifeway would consider putting an exerpts of the 1st 2 chapters on their website for a while? Just a thought.
Any girls looking for a group in Houston, TX? First learned about Beth this past semester… I’d love to do this summer study with a group! =)
Is there any way to go directly to the newest posts instead of threading to each set of newer pages?
Greetings from the Carolina Beach Siestas!
Our group of nine women met last night and kicked off our study of Ruth. We live at the coast of North Carolina, on a small barrier island. Some of us met through the local Shag Club. (For those of you who don’t know, the Shag is the state dance of both Carolinas.) There are nine of us and most of us are in our fifties and sixties. One is only 39, but we love and forgive her. Last night we all felt an immediate bond as we shared information about ourselves and our “one word”. We’re excited about getting into God’s Word together this summer while we grow closer to the Lord, to each other, and to all of you other wonderful women out there.
I will be joining solo here in Lenoir City, TN….I can’t wait!
Greetings to all from the great state of Ohio. We actually started this study last week, but as if God knew exactly what our intentions were, we only got through the introduction to the book. I had no idea about this summer series, yet we had already picked this study. My original intention for the group was to do a Beth Moore study, but we are a small church in a small town, and the finances were just not available. Imagine my surprise when I went to the livingroom series website and found this link! God is sooo good!!!
We are a group of ten women, ranging in age from 21 to 70+. We have a few widows in the group, several women married for twenty plus years, one newlywed, one engaged to be married, and one divorcee. Needless to say, we are an ecclectic group. I think that I speak for all when I say excitement and knowledge are in store for all of us.
When doing the things that Beth asked us to do for the first week, it was good to know that several of us are in the same spiritual season, only using different words to describe them. We had words from hectic to busy to happy to blessed, with a few things in between. Most all of us were on the same wavelength when it came to why we were doing the study–to become closer to the God that we love and to be in the presence of other women who love Him just as much.
I told the group that if this is anything like other Beth Moore studies (which I have thoroughly enjoyed and grown from) we will be better women at the end of the six weeks and I can’t wait to begin this journey with them, with Beth and Kelly, and with all of my sisters in Christ who are currently taking the time to do this study.
God bless all of you and I look forward to reporting back in two weeks!!
Michelle
Hello! We are a small group of five. But there are over 20 women signed up at Crossroads Community Church in Madison, Ohio. this is our first Siesta Summer Bible Study, too! In our small group our words varied challenging, chaotic, trials, elation, and retaining wall. Oh are age range is 30’s to 70’s. We are all here at Bible Study for similar reasons: commitment to the word and female fellowship. All of us our in different places in our walk.
Reidsville Christian ladies’ study started tonight with seventeen women. What a joy to hear their goals: to be more disciplined in study; to grow closer to God; to open up confidence and walk in love; to focus, prioritize; to have a better understanding of Ruth, to learn more about the Bible, etc. These women have chosen to be purposeful in God’s Word in study together for the summer. Intentional choices. We look forward to traveling together back in time with Ruth to understand how her story connects with our own stories. May we learn from her commitment, faith, focus and daring. We have a God Who loves us beyond comprehension. May we each know Him better because of Ruth!
My sisters and I are so excited! We are doing the study via SKYPE! It’s our first Summer Bible Study and we just cant sit still due to excitement! We are in Texas and Louisiana between all of us! Looking forward to an awesome summer study!
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – 4 friends joining (one by phone from Davenport Iowa). We are meeting at my office here at the local community college in town. We have all been frinds for quiet awhile and share our lives in many ways (but mainly through scrapbooking). With our busy lives we really wanted to set aside some time for us to be together as friends and thought doing that while studying God’s word would really make that time together so much more valuable and meaningful.
Joining solo from east of El Paso, Texas. Really excited to join.
We are a group of 2 Siesta Sisters here in Elizabethtown. Just watched the video together. Thanks, Beth for keeping us in line this summer with the WORD! We are 2 busy grammys who lead Bible studies. One of us is a very gifted Bible teacher (that’s not me!). We also got on Kelly Minter’s web site and watched her short videos for session 1 and session 2. They are very good. We spent time with the discussion questions you suggested, Beth, and are ready to begin our homework! See you in 2 weeks!
Forgot to say Elizabethtown, KY!
This is my first online Bible Study with Beth. I have completed numerous ones in my home with a small group and always walk away wondering how does she do it? They are always so insightful and life changing.
I have completed 3 of the first weeks homework on Ruth. I thought I had read and studied Ruth everyway possible BUT not true. I am already seeing things that I have not seen before. Thank you for being obedient to Him and for loving all of us so much.
Thanks from Whitsett NC.
Carleen
Looks like I will be solo since my work travel schedule is so crazy this summer. All my friends aka co-workers have a crazy travel schedule so we just couldn’t get a time that worked.. not even for 2 of us?!?
So excited…praise the Lord for the gift of technology!
Starting next Tuesday. Playing catch up and then falling in on the following Tuesday. My divorce is about to be final and this study looks like it would be very helpful. I just “happened” to run across it. But we know there is no happenstance with God, is there? Thanks!
Oh and it will be me and two friends in Newnan GA!!
I am on board and excited about it. Going solo from Decatur,Al. My word is frustrated. I really had many words but they all seem to dwell under and from this word. I think this study is what I need see I am already excited hey that sounds like a good start from frustrated to excited to grow and learn in Jesus. I am 53 year old Mom of two grown sons that have blessed me with six grandchildren all 11 years old and under. (Energy needed) I also have a 29 year old deaf and special needs daughter. Last but not least I have a wonderful husband. Love and prayers to all, MimiSix
I am learning so much from this study. I just received my workbook yesterday, finally, so I am playing catch-up I’m on Day 5 and have a yellow highlighter, a red pen and a black pen. The highlighter I use for I must remember this, the red pen I use for remember this it’s worth remembering (sometimes I use red and highlight for the same phrase when it’s this is worth remembering extra always.) and my black pen is for answering questions and making notes in the margin as well as my Bible and sometimes when it’s really really good I use the red pen and the highlighter in my Bible too. Yes, sometimes it gets the double alert red and yellow. I Circle in red what I want to use for fb status comments and I am so happy there are a lot of those to share with fb friends. Well gotta go day 5 awaits. I have the rejoice in the Lord bug can you tell thank you SSBS. 🙂
Excited to start a new study. Just finished “The Inheiritance” Wednesday night. I will be doing this on my on. Have already finished week one.
4 of us from Renton, WA will be joining you also. So excited.
How long will be the videos be up and can be viewed? My group is a little behind (I was going to do it solo but I have found siestas interested) but we can’t have a 1st meeting until this Thurs. night (7-1-10). We will try to catch up.
The Daniel study is AMAZING! (Really lines up with what Walid Shoebat has to say as well…)
I just got back from the St. Louis Living Proof Conference and it was amazing, Reflecting the Image of God!!! What a message!!! We’re (our church women’s group, on our last week of “The Patriarchs” study, and I am so excited to do Ruth. The women in our study group wanted a summer break for a few weeks, “(we’ve doubled the 11 week Patriarchs study into 21 weeks because we didn’t want to rush through and miss the little golden nuggets of God’s Word) so I am excited to be able to tap into a new study group such as the “Siestas” to do a short summer study before our church women’s group launches our fall study. I don’t like to take breaks from in-depth studies of God’s Word and meaning in our lives. I thank out precious Heavenly Father for never taking breaks in in in-depth details in our lives. 😉 So excited! See you girls in here in a little over a week…
Tiffany from Lawrence, KS
sorry for all of the typos, I’m outside with the kids by their little pool, trying to watch them and type 😉

I’m a solo studier because I’ve been intrigued by Ruth and want to delve in more. I’m late getting started, but I’ll catch up! Got my workbook in hand and ready to go.
tonight was our first meeting. we had 6 ladies in attendance in powder springs, ga. we are primarily made up of “naomis.”
the main part of our discussion started after reading the last verse in judges and about how this generation coming along seems to have a disconnect with the things of God and having a personal relationship with Him.
we are looking forward to finishing this study victoriously and closer to Him.
I am one member of a group of 8 in Swannanoa, NC (just outside of Asheville, NC). We had a great discussion in our first meeting tonight at our church, First Baptist Swannanoa. We each seem to be in a variety of challenging circumstances in life, and we are searching for God’s plan. We want to grow closer to him and cannot wait to learn more about him in this study this summer.
I am a part of a group in Denton, Texas. We are a mother/daughter group. There are three moms and our daughters. We are very excited to study the word of God with our friends and our children. We will be meeting every other Tuesday, as requested. We already met once and are looking forward to our next time together. We havce already learned a lot from our study and are enjoying it a lot.
