There’s a story in the Moore family lore that involves my mother teaching her Sunday school class while she was in labor. As soon as she was done, my parents snuck out of church and headed to the hospital to have me.
We have a new story to add to the family lore that involves Curtis teaching Sunday school and sneaking away to the ER as soon as it was over. A few hours later, he was having an emergency appendectomy. The appendix had already ruptured (it was a “contained rupture”), so we are probably going to be here in the hospital for 2-4 days. My mom is helping with the kids right now and Curtis’ mom and dad will come toward the end of the week. I’m so thankful for their help.
Rich sent me the Living Proof Live – Tampa recap video, but my computer isn’t liking the Internet connection here and I can’t embed it. Here’s a link until I can make that happen:
We would greatly appreciate your prayers both for Curtis and for my mom, who is preparing for the So Long Insecurity Simulcast that will take place next weekend. If you’re interested in finding a host site near you, justΒ click here. Thank you, sweet friends!
Love,
Amanda
i just looked at all the churches hosting the simulcast. amazing! but i didn’t see any where in Canada or Australia!! Will it be on the internet as well at the same time or after?
praying for you all
Oh Amanda,
We are praying for healing for Curtis. So scary, but thankful it was all found and fixed! Hope Curtis will have a quicker recovery than normal! And paying for Bibby while she’s got the kids. . they will love it!
Wendy
I’m so sorry to hear about Curtis and you are so blessed for family that live close by and those that are willing to come and help. Will certainly keep you guys in my prayers. A very similar story happened to me except I was attending a Bible study led by my Pastor’s wife and was having some abdominal discomfort during the whole thing. I kept squirming in my seat because of it – though I’m sure those around me thought I was under conviction! π
Ended up in the ER with an ectopic pregnancy that had ruptured and I had lost almost a liter of blood! Scared and heart broken I went to emergency surgery at 3:00am leaving my 2 small boys at home. But our Faithful Abba Daddy brought a precious little baby girl into my life 2 years later. Not replacing the loss, but filling my empty arms again. I’m sure He’ll have a blessing in all this for you too! Keep watching for it!

I am praying…
I am looking forward to saturday…I have my ticket and will be bringing 3 others with me…I am so praying over all and know God’s Word is such that it accomplishes that which He sends it out and will not return to Him void.
Love to all,
Deborah
Still praying for healing for Curtis, safe travel for your folks, strength and safety for MamaBeth this weekend and for comfort and peace for you through this.
Looking forward to the simulcast.
Amanda, when you get a chance, let us know how Curtis is doing.
Love to you all
Oh, girl, I’ve been there and done that, except I had to sneak out of a movie theatre to go to the ER. Just remember to tell him one very important thing- DON’T LAUGH! After abdominal surgery like that, laughing sucks, and not doing so is really hard if you have funny friends (or a funny wife, or cute kids who Say the Darndest Things).
Anyway, that’s my apendectomy advice from one person missing that organ to another.
Praying. π
Oh, my!!! I know exactly how you feel. Three weeks ago I waited as long as I could before telling my husband I needed to go to the emergency room. That was Saturday morning and on Sunday morning they operated on my heart. Very scary but it happened so fast I didn’t realize how serious. I will be praying for your family. I know how hard it must be with small children.
Praying for your hubby Amanda and dear Mama Beth as she prepares. I am so excited as I get to go to the simulcast in my area. Praying all will be on the mend and back to good health soon.
love to you all
Amanda, hang in there. Taking care of a sick husband and two little ones can be tough, you are not overlooked by our Father. Please tell your mom thank you for me. The Tampa conference was so uplifting in a time when I needed it most. There is NOTHING like the Word of God to satisfy a hungry soul!
Oh Amanda!!
I am so sorry to hear that
Bless his heart
I will be praying for complete recovery for Curtis
and for a safe trip for his parents
Got your mom covered for next weekend too!
Much love
Amanda,
I am praying for strength for all of you today! You have had quite a week. My hubby just preached last Sunday after a concussion. Anytime he stumbled on his words I was nice enough to point to my head and mouth, “It’s the head injury.” Lifting you up in prayer as you care for your hubby and family.
Much love and prayers,
Jennifer
Oh, and she looked so cute on Saturday! π
Good morning, Amanda. I pray Curtis is feeling better and gaining strenth everyday. I pray for you to have strength beyond measure during this difficult time. It’s hard when you feel like you should be two or three places at the same time. But God has blessed you and Curtis with loving parents to help with your precious children. What a blessing that is! I am praying for your mom, too. I pray she have clarity to speak what God has in store for us this weekend at the simulcast. I am so excited! My friend and I are taking our two teenage daughters and one of their friends to it in Kansas City, MO.
May God bless and keep all of you,
Mary Jane
We have a great family story of driving home to Missouri from a family ski trip (3 generations, 10 people in 2 cars) across CO, KS and into MO, with my brother’s appendicitis. He wanted to have the surgery at home. He did – after a 12 hour car ride.
It makes for great family lore. We still laugh about it!
Prayers to you all.
A follower in MO.
Wow, So glad to hear that your husband is doing OK. What a blessing that you have family and friends to help you out with the kids. I’m so excited about the “So Long Insecurity” simulcast this weekend. It will be my first simulcast. I’m praying I can see Beth when she is in my area in August. Will be praying for a quick and smooth recovery.

Amanda–
We’ve been praying for your mom at our SLI team planning meetings. This weekend is sure to be a blessing b/c it seems the devil is trying to throw all sorts of obstacles in the way. We’ll add Curtis to the prayer list as well.
Speaking from personal experience, I know what it’s like to have a husband recover from a ruptured appendix. While my husband wasn’t teaching Sunday School, he was flying an aggressive air to air sortie that day, and then decided later in the day to drive himself to the doctor on his motorcycle b/c he was afraid it was just an upset stomach and didn’t want his fighter pilot “brothers” giving him grief over going to the doctor for indigestion. By the time he limped into the office, they took one look at him, and told him he needed an emergency appendectomy. He got up to leave and they asked him where he was going, to which he replied that he was going to drive himself across the street to the hospital. Thankfully, they convinced him that he needed to ride in an ambulance…and thankfully, You have a supportive extended family that can tend to your little ones so you can be there while Curtis recovers. Prayers for an easy recovery and rest for you all. Also, praying for prayers of protection for everyone involved in the simulcast this wkd.
In His Love,
Donna Benjamin
Had a similar experience w/my sweet hubby whose body decided to reject his appendix (not sure why God gave us those anyway…) the day of his daughter’s 6th grade graduation…sigh. Tending to a 6th grade girl and a sick hubby was “fun”…but was so thankful for grandparents who could fill in the gaps and love on our children while I tended to my husbands needs. God is good…even even in those times when our bodies take detours we had NOT planned on..amen?! Praying for all of you – may you have God’s strength, stamina, quick healing, and even those humourous God moments that get blogged about!!
Praying for you. My husband had his appendix out several years ago. It had begun to rupture, but he was fine. Sore, but fine. And when he came home my young girls didn’t recognize him with a few days’ growth of beard!
Ugh, these seasons of medical drama are just the worst, aren’t they? Makes me realize that it really is true when people say, “Well, at least you have your health.” Praying that Curtis, and every single person in your family, regains their health quickly.
Good Afternoon Amanda, Beth and the whole Moore Family! I just wanted to stop by and let you all know you are in my prayers. Having your appendix rupture is a bad experience. I never had mine rupture but i have had to take mine out at age 5, i remember the painful journey Sooooo Curtis, i definitely pray for you…
So sorry i havent kept up with the blogging that has been going on in the past few months congrads on the move.. I lost my sister this past week to ovarian, lung and brain cancer so its been a rough journey for my family. just 2 short months ago she was diagnosised and the Lord seen fit to take her home. I will continue to pray for your family, please keep mine lifted up, especially my mom, she had it hard burying her girl.
Love
Amanda S
Oh, Amanda, I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister. I’m praying right now for your comfort and peace.
Amanda S.
I am so sorry for your loss. I will be praying for your family during this hard time.
May God pour out His comfort over you and fill you completely with it sweet one.
With child #3, my labor started very early on Sunday morning, but I went on to SS and my husband and I taught 4yrd old children’s church, contractions and all. Problem was, my contractions were all over the board, I knew If I stayed home, they would stop and no baby, If I we went on to church, maybe the contractions would continue…they did. but it was early evening before they started getting closer. Finally by 8 or so it was time to call the Dr…Babies they have a mind of their own…..and the things we Momma’s do, while having contractions or not.
All of you are in my prayers! I had my gall bladder removed on April 9th and can relate to the toll of recovery and how all the extra help can take it’s toll on everyone around you! May God richly bless you and your family during this time of recovery.
Blessings,
Julie
Praying for Curtis and for the whole family.
I’m praying for your family, Amanda, and for your mother’s simulcast.
There’s a big group of us meeting an hour and a half before the simulcast to pray for the event. I believe this is going to be a powerful move of God and I’m so honored to be praying for it. I can point back to the simulcast in August of ’08 as one of the huge catalysts that challenged me to move forward with God in a daily, intimate journey that has since changed my life completely. I live for Jesus, think of Jesus, and dream of Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus….it’s all about Him. I’m praying that there are many, many transformations like that from this simulcast. I gave Him my untouched soil as I was challenged to do and I prayed that I would be the deep, good, fertile soil. And He was so good to answer my prayers.
I love you and your family. Praying for showers of abundant blessings….
Praying for you and your sweet family! Thanks so much for all you do for us Siestas. This blog has been such a blessing to me in the short time since I have discovered it. I am at a similar stage in my life with 2 young kids and you have been such a inspiration to me, along with your mother of course. I am so looking forward to this weekend! If your mom is anything like mine, she is over prepared anyway and watching your kids is just want she needs!
Praying for all of you! Hope Curtis feels better soon! Love you guys!
Just wanted to say how truly blessed I was (and still am) from the conference in Tampa this past weekend. It is awesome to see how God continues to use Beth to minister to others. Thank you again to Beth and Curtis and the praise team for a wonderful weekend…I was reminded of how much power and freedom we stand in through Christ. Much love and prayers to you.
Oops! Correction…Travis and the Praise team! I guess I had Curtis on the brain because of his visit to ER.
My prayers are with you all and that Curtis would recover and come through this stronger than before. I am attending the Simulcast, along with 5 other ladies most of them from the Breaking Free Bible Study we are doing in a local church. I am so excited and there is no doubt in my mind that God will be amazing. Beth – I will be praying for you as you prepare and I tell people that you love me too! And praying that God will give me that “agapeo” love for Him and for others! Love you!
Tampa video was a super blessing to me, all those bebes and the women praying for each other. Looks like ya’ll had fun:)

I hope that your family is doing better and Curtis is better soon.
I wanted to also share with you my “Tampa Story”. On the way from work on Friday evening to make it to Idlewild, I was rear ended by another driver. My first thought was, this is going to make me late. Luckily, I pulled over and jumped out to see a man in tears apologizing for hitting me. I quickly said, “it is okay, don’t worry about I am on my way to see Beth.” (He now loves Beth Moore, I am sure because he seemed to have a little fear about what could happpen next if cops were called – LOL)
My friends passed me in their car and called to see if I was okay. I assured them I was fine and just did not want to be late.
After getting in the car, I figured I best call my dear husband and tell him about the “accident”. He asked if all was okay and I said sure. He said “Is there still a bumper?” I actually paused and said “yes, I am sure there is – I think”
Seriously, there was nothing wrong and the car was fine but when I got home my husband said “I knew bumper or no bumper you were not going to miss Beth Moore speaking live so I was worried”.
The point is that hearing what God had to say via you on Friday and Saturday would have been worth a bumper!
