Wow! Beth, I am not a blogger but wow! Thank you. I almost turned off the video just for the reasons you mentioned—in fact I went to see if any posts had been posted. I thought I could listen and read at the same time. But, the video stopped. Well, I can’t easily leave something that I start so I came back to the video. I know now I needed to hear your thoughts.
I am one, who after 40 years of marriage, my dear husband decided someone 20 years younger would make him happy. He left me a note on the counter to read when I arrived home from work. He told me he could not love me the way a husband should love his wife. Wow! I took the blame he bestowed on me for 9 months until I found out the real truth. So, here I am four years later still praying daily for his restoration to God. I ask God daily to help me not to think of him and care for him as I do. I have actually felt guilty and others have told me I need to move on. Yes, I know all that. And, I really have moved on the best one can in this situation. My love for the Lord and His return of love to me has been wonderful. God has graciously filled and continues to fill the hole that was left when my husband made the choice to no longer be in the lives of our family. God’s loving mercy can fill that hole and is filling it daily. The two gifts my husband was responsible for giving me, our son and the grandson he has never met or has asked to meet, are a part of that daily filling and I can never thank him enough for them. They are so precious and I value these gifts more than any other gifts he gave. Even though I know and have experienced his rejection, I care for my ex-husband. Today, again in my quiet time, I asked God to take my thoughts and care of him away. I know he has moved on through marriage and accepting another family as his and rejecting ours. Why do I still think and care for him is my daily prayer to God. And, then this evening I heard your post. Thank you for your encouragement to thank God and the persistence to care.
In this month, he celebrated another birthday. After much thought and prayer I emailed him how delighted I was for the day of his birth when God gave him life and brought him into this world. I let him know as well God still delights in him.
As we know, delight means giving much pleasure. I know that our God is saddened with his choices and life he has chosen but I am still very grateful that our God continues to delight in us, even in our failures. Since hearing your words today, I am now so glad I shared with him my thoughts. Your thoughts were what I needed to help me to know, that just maybe, how others can see Christ in me is the love and care I still have for one who has hurt me and rejected me.
But when others don’t seem to understand how and why I still care, my thoughts and sometimes, when I feel brave, my actual words surround the cross and I think and say,” but my Heavenly Father continues to love me daily even if my love does not match His.” My prayer request to God again this morning was that others would be able to see Christ through me. I never thought that my desire to still choose to love someone who rejected me could be that reflection. I know that he will not be back in our lives and I do pray that God will do more than I can ever expect and bring him back to God in His perfect timing. I also pray that God may choose to bring someone into my life someday that I can shower care and love for and they in return. But, now as I continue to wait on my God who knows all my needs, it is okay to steadfastly love one who has made a choice to walk away. No one has ever expressed my heart as you did this day in your video and blog post. Thank you for listening to God to encourage others who want to be a reflection of God in all of life and to remember that God’s love never quits.
