Hey, my dear loved ones!
I believe God has placed something on my heart for us to do here in our community for the next several vital days on our nation’s calendar. It will take place in two parts.
Part One: Today and for the next twenty-four hours in comments to this post, those who are willing are going to comprise prayers drawn from Scripture for our new president and the nation he will lead. These Scriptures incorporated into prayers don’t have to be limited to the ones we’re most accustomed to seeing for leaders. By all means, look at those but also consider a Bible-full of precepts that speak to character and integrity and the many qualities that comprise a great leader. See how the Holy Spirit might lay them on your heart and turn them into intercession. Also consider Scriptures that speak to issues like protection from harm for our president and for our nation and wholeness of heart.
If you need a launching point for your thoughts, think about how you’d want people to pray for your husband if he were elected president tomorrow. Go from there. Make it any length from a few sentences to a meaty paragraph but not long. Remember what Jesus said about those wanting to be heard for their many words in prayer. Keep it succinct and sincere. This is really important and you’ll see the reasons why during Part Two. The comments to this post will be limited entirely to prayers. Please add no other words or comments or even greetings or replies to one another on this one. Let’s just do the thing that really makes the difference. Refrain from signing your name to the bottom of it because you’re going to see in Part Two that others will be using it. Just sign off with an “Amen” or similar benediction but do indeed list any references for the verses your prayers were based on.
The most important discipline of this process is writing our prayers before we know who our president will be. Needless to say, other petitions specific to the man who is elected will be vital throughout his presidency but for this public format and for this 24-hour period of time, we’re going to write our prayers without knowing who it will be. I think (and hope!) we will find this approach very effective and helpful in our focus and prayer-direction throughout Part Two. Oftentimes, heightened emotion and opinion cloud focus, clarity, and wisdom in our prayer lives, especially with so much at stake. It’s hard to pray according to the Holy Spirit when our flesh is inflamed. Remember at the end of all of this, our God is sovereign and at no time does He lose control.
Your prayer will need to take this basic skeletal form:
Address God the way you feel led (Dear Father in Heaven or Creator of Heaven and Earth or Sovereign Lord, etc.)
Write the petition for our new president and for our nation.
Conclude it “In Jesus’ Name, Amen” or with something of similar intent and assigned authority.
List all Scripture references that your prayers were drawn from or based on. (Just the locations. You do not need to write them all the way out.)
Part Two: 24-hours or so after this post opens for comment, it will be closed. In other words, by mid-morning Tuesday, November 6th (Election Day) there will be no further way to leave additional comments but you will have full access to all of those already written. (Comments that come in after work hours this evening will all be posted before the 24-hour closure so don’t worry. If you write a prayer before the 24 hours is up, it will get posted when Lindsee is able to complete all moderations. It takes a while.)
After the election results are in, here’s what I’m suggesting. This is the time we get to reap the harvest sown in Part One. Come back to this post and start voicing a number of these prayers that resonate most with you. More importantly perhaps, consider voicing the ones that may be harder for you but you know they are godly, sound, and Scriptural. If you’re less sure about some of them, look up the Scripture references the intercessor listed and see if the context gives you any insight or direction. You can use this as a resource for your prayers not only in this 48-hour period but in days to come. Consider praying several of them per day until you work your way through them. That’s what I’m going to shoot for. I’m hoping to print them out and stick them in my prayer journal and voice several at a time over the weeks to come until I’ve agreed in prayer with practically all of them.
I’m not remotely suggesting this is the only way to pray for the next few days and in the weeks to come. It’s just one way but I really do believe this is the approach God placed upon my heart for our blog community. I’m looking so forward to harvesting some of this fruit in the coming days and there is no doubt in my mind that it will help direct my petitions and cause me to intercede for things I would have overlooked. I am continually inspired in my prayer life by the powerful prayers of others. Aren’t you? Let’s do this, Sisters. I think blessing awaits us and, far more importantly, awaits our new president.
I love you so dearly, ladies. My word, we’ve been around long enough to spend our second election together. I pray with all my heart that God will be pleased with this community and will use it to encourage and edify the Body of Christ in a way only He can empower or explain. He is so worthy of our trust and He is well able and willing to respond to earnest prayers that align with His will and come to Him through the glorious, saving Name of His Son.
Before I sign off, all three Moore-Jones-Fitzpatrick girls could use your prayers! We are all headed to the other side of the world and to two different locations. Later today Melissa and I will board a plane for Greece for a dual-purpose trip over the next 7 days. (Voted early) As guests of Nick and Christine Caine, we will have the privilege of seeing some of the work of the A21 Campaign (Abolishing Injustice in the 21st Century) from a much closer angle and attend (and serve at) a conference there. I love nothing better than seeing what God is doing around this globe. God is using this time on the Kingdom calendar to expose horrendous injustices – particularly in the areas of human trafficking – that need to be fought by the Body of Christ. (See Isaiah 58!)
Melissa and I are also beginning a new Bible study journey together and, with the help of a guide, will be doing research in some very strategic places involved in the series. You will not waste a prayer on us! Pray for God to show us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3) and bless us with powerful encounters and insights and help us to serve people effectively and affectionately there amid such cultural differences. We are certain they will be a blessing of God to us but we want so much to also be a blessing of God to them. THEN, Amanda follows right behind us two days later (on Wednesday) heading to India for a very important mission trip with the organization “As Our Own.” Even in our very different destinations, all three of us will be serving in areas where human trafficking is appallingly prevalent and believers are being mobilized slowly but surely to cry out and labor for its end.

Father, I’m thinking of Proverbs 21:1 right now. I ask that you would turn our President’s heart wherever You wish, just like you do with streams of water that run on the ground. I’m also thinking of Romans 13:1 which tells us that the authorities that exist have been established by You. Help us to realize that no mater the outcome after the election, we know that You are in control and have a plan. You will not be surprised by the outcome. Help us to trust You the day after the election just as much as (or more than) we do today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

My dear sweet Jesus, I pray for your blessings upon our country and that you would have your hand of direction and wisdom on our president. You alone knew him before he was formed in the womb and set him apart for your purpose before he was even born (Jer 1:5). Each day of his life you have ordained before he took his first breath (Ps 139:16) and I pray that you would give him your wisdom and mercy to trust in you at all times and pour out his heart to you so that he might find refuge for himself and our nation (Ps 62:8). Heavenly Father, our lives and our country are in your hands. You know everything before it happens. You are the Alpha and the Omega. We look to you Lord because you know the hearts of men. We come before You today to lift up the man that you will establish as our next President. Heavenly Father we trust you with our future and know that it is all in your control. We are praying for the one elected for this postion as leader of our great nation. As Isaiah 43: 7,21 says, “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. This people have I formed for myself, they shall shew forth my praise.” We know that you have created this man, we just pray that he would be drawn to you so that he would depend on you God for his wisdom in leading us into the next 4 years and may you receive all the honor and glory for everything that is said and done. I come to you and ask for your protection over the man who will lead our great nation. For protection over his family. His wife, his children, and those he loves. (PSALM 4:8). God, I pray for protection from the schemes that the evil one will try to use against him. I pray for peace in his heart and mind as he awaits the final count over the next days. (ISAIAH 26:3). Lord, I pray that the man who leads this country would be a man of humility and integrity looking out not for his own interests but the interest and concerns of others.(PHIL. 2:3-4) (PSALM 101:2).

As we read in Phil.1:6, “He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ, developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.” Father, help us to see and cooperate with your perfecting and completing work in our President, all of our public servants and of course, in ourselves. You know best what is for the good of all. May we be present, available, awake and loving as we hear Your voice and strive to carry out your calling. Thank you, Father, in the name of your Son.

Oh Lord, this verse has always spoken to me about Your sovereignty. You are not surprised by this election. You are not impressed or disappointed in the leader our country has. You simply want him as Your own. Father God, it is in Your hands that our country lies. In the Bible, You have used believers and non-beleievers to accomplish Your purposes. I pray Lord, that our leader learns to grow more in love with You daily. But I also pray he is humble enough to know he needs You, daily. He cannot do this job to his full potential without realizing that You are his strength and his wisdom. Lord, let us as a nation look to You and humble ourselves. Let our the leader of this country lead the way.
Oh, sovereign and gracious Lord, my heart is greatly burdened for our nation and I bring this petition to you on behalf of our soon-to-be-elected president. Father, I pray that you would graciously grant to our leader a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. I pray that the eyes of his heart would be enlightened so that he would know what is the hope of his calling, what are the glorious riches of his inheritance among the saints, if indeed he may be numbered among the saints (and if not that a new revelation in the knowledge of You might bring that relationship to exist), and what is the immeasurable greatness of Your power toward us who believe. (Ephesians 1:17-19) Father God, I ask these things in the precious and holy name of Jesus, the name above all names, in the hope that the mystery of the gospel might be revealed to our next leader. I pray that Jesus may be lifted high, for there is salvation in no one else and there is no other name under heaven by which anyone can be saved. (Acts 4:12) In the name of Jesus, Amen.
If my president is not saved, I pray that John 3:16 will become a reality in his life. I ask that he be given clear understanding of his need, and of Jesus’ ability to meet that need, and that there is no other way. I ask with thanksgiving in the sweet and powerful name of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before as a unit of believers asking for your guidance and wisdom for our nation’s president. We can not see into the future to know who our leader will be, but we have faith that You have already written that next page in the history book. We trust You with our country’s future,and we pray for our president now. Isaiah 42:16 says that You will lead the blind and turn darkness into light. Please make our President’s rough places smooth and don’t forsake him. Also, help our president to do what Romans 12:2 says . He should not conform to the world, but be transformed by renewing his mind. Help him to be able to test and approve your will for our country. We need your guidance and wisdom in our land, Lord. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen

Please hear my prayer. I am asking for Your mercy and grace, for Your goodness to continue to provide for our country Lord. I ask that You would draw our president’s heart to Yours. I pray you would fill him with the knowledge of Your will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that he would walk worthy of You Lord. May he fully pleases You and being fruitful in every good work. I pray that his knowledge of you God would increase and that through Jesus Christ, he would be strengthened, according to Your glorious power. Please give him patience, longsuffering and joy that comes only from knowing You. May he be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. May his heart be one filled with reverent gratitude and may his life reflect the transforming wonder of Your Love. Father, this is my prayer for our president. Let no one deceive him with fine sounding arguments. Let no one take him captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy. O Sovereign God of creation! We know father that you set up kings and remove them (Daniel 2:21) so we trust you father in this election. We declare that your will be done! We know God that you are resolving all of the darkness into yourself the light and that ultimately no man can fix what you are trying to break. Your word in revelation and many other parts speak of Babylon falling so father we know that no matter who wins behind it all is you our Lord and master bringing your prophetic purposes to pass. So we will not fear and we will keep our hope in you strong knowing that our trust should not be in mortal man. May our president be a willing vessel Lord but either way we know you will use him to accomplish your purpose as your word does not come back void!!
Heavenly Father, Thank you for this country we live in and the freedoms we have. I pray for our president today. Give him wisdom and discernment, always looking out for the best interest of the country and not for his personal gain. I ask that you bless him with confidence, strength and humility.
