Hey, my dear loved ones!
I believe God has placed something on my heart for us to do here in our community for the next several vital days on our nation’s calendar. It will take place in two parts.
Part One: Today and for the next twenty-four hours in comments to this post, those who are willing are going to comprise prayers drawn from Scripture for our new president and the nation he will lead. These Scriptures incorporated into prayers don’t have to be limited to the ones we’re most accustomed to seeing for leaders. By all means, look at those but also consider a Bible-full of precepts that speak to character and integrity and the many qualities that comprise a great leader. See how the Holy Spirit might lay them on your heart and turn them into intercession. Also consider Scriptures that speak to issues like protection from harm for our president and for our nation and wholeness of heart.
If you need a launching point for your thoughts, think about how you’d want people to pray for your husband if he were elected president tomorrow. Go from there. Make it any length from a few sentences to a meaty paragraph but not long. Remember what Jesus said about those wanting to be heard for their many words in prayer. Keep it succinct and sincere. This is really important and you’ll see the reasons why during Part Two. The comments to this post will be limited entirely to prayers. Please add no other words or comments or even greetings or replies to one another on this one. Let’s just do the thing that really makes the difference. Refrain from signing your name to the bottom of it because you’re going to see in Part Two that others will be using it. Just sign off with an “Amen” or similar benediction but do indeed list any references for the verses your prayers were based on.
The most important discipline of this process is writing our prayers before we know who our president will be. Needless to say, other petitions specific to the man who is elected will be vital throughout his presidency but for this public format and for this 24-hour period of time, we’re going to write our prayers without knowing who it will be. I think (and hope!) we will find this approach very effective and helpful in our focus and prayer-direction throughout Part Two. Oftentimes, heightened emotion and opinion cloud focus, clarity, and wisdom in our prayer lives, especially with so much at stake. It’s hard to pray according to the Holy Spirit when our flesh is inflamed. Remember at the end of all of this, our God is sovereign and at no time does He lose control.
Your prayer will need to take this basic skeletal form:
Address God the way you feel led (Dear Father in Heaven or Creator of Heaven and Earth or Sovereign Lord, etc.)
Write the petition for our new president and for our nation.
Conclude it “In Jesus’ Name, Amen” or with something of similar intent and assigned authority.
List all Scripture references that your prayers were drawn from or based on. (Just the locations. You do not need to write them all the way out.)
Part Two: 24-hours or so after this post opens for comment, it will be closed. In other words, by mid-morning Tuesday, November 6th (Election Day) there will be no further way to leave additional comments but you will have full access to all of those already written. (Comments that come in after work hours this evening will all be posted before the 24-hour closure so don’t worry. If you write a prayer before the 24 hours is up, it will get posted when Lindsee is able to complete all moderations. It takes a while.)
After the election results are in, here’s what I’m suggesting. This is the time we get to reap the harvest sown in Part One. Come back to this post and start voicing a number of these prayers that resonate most with you. More importantly perhaps, consider voicing the ones that may be harder for you but you know they are godly, sound, and Scriptural. If you’re less sure about some of them, look up the Scripture references the intercessor listed and see if the context gives you any insight or direction. You can use this as a resource for your prayers not only in this 48-hour period but in days to come. Consider praying several of them per day until you work your way through them. That’s what I’m going to shoot for. I’m hoping to print them out and stick them in my prayer journal and voice several at a time over the weeks to come until I’ve agreed in prayer with practically all of them.
I’m not remotely suggesting this is the only way to pray for the next few days and in the weeks to come. It’s just one way but I really do believe this is the approach God placed upon my heart for our blog community. I’m looking so forward to harvesting some of this fruit in the coming days and there is no doubt in my mind that it will help direct my petitions and cause me to intercede for things I would have overlooked. I am continually inspired in my prayer life by the powerful prayers of others. Aren’t you? Let’s do this, Sisters. I think blessing awaits us and, far more importantly, awaits our new president.
I love you so dearly, ladies. My word, we’ve been around long enough to spend our second election together. I pray with all my heart that God will be pleased with this community and will use it to encourage and edify the Body of Christ in a way only He can empower or explain. He is so worthy of our trust and He is well able and willing to respond to earnest prayers that align with His will and come to Him through the glorious, saving Name of His Son.
Before I sign off, all three Moore-Jones-Fitzpatrick girls could use your prayers! We are all headed to the other side of the world and to two different locations. Later today Melissa and I will board a plane for Greece for a dual-purpose trip over the next 7 days. (Voted early) As guests of Nick and Christine Caine, we will have the privilege of seeing some of the work of the A21 Campaign (Abolishing Injustice in the 21st Century) from a much closer angle and attend (and serve at) a conference there. I love nothing better than seeing what God is doing around this globe. God is using this time on the Kingdom calendar to expose horrendous injustices – particularly in the areas of human trafficking – that need to be fought by the Body of Christ. (See Isaiah 58!)
Melissa and I are also beginning a new Bible study journey together and, with the help of a guide, will be doing research in some very strategic places involved in the series. You will not waste a prayer on us! Pray for God to show us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3) and bless us with powerful encounters and insights and help us to serve people effectively and affectionately there amid such cultural differences. We are certain they will be a blessing of God to us but we want so much to also be a blessing of God to them. THEN, Amanda follows right behind us two days later (on Wednesday) heading to India for a very important mission trip with the organization “As Our Own.” Even in our very different destinations, all three of us will be serving in areas where human trafficking is appallingly prevalent and believers are being mobilized slowly but surely to cry out and labor for its end.

On this Election Day eve, we ask You, Lord to give us Your wisdom. You are eager to bless us and our President and all governmental leadership positions, as Your children. Help us think supernaturally with divine wisdom as we go to the polling booth tomorrow (today) and make our choices for local and state offices, Congress and the United States presidency.

I come to you asking for you to bless our President. Lord I ask that you would bless him with knowledge, and spiritual understanding and wisdom according to your will. Lord I ask that your Holy Spirit would be a teacher to him, revealing to him the secrets of your Word. Lord, I pray that you will give him wisdom and a heart that will ask you for wisdom when needed. May our president bear good fruit and grow in knowledge of you,giving you thanks in all things.
May he be ever mindful that you are sovereign Lord and that although man may throw the dice, it is God who controls how they land. Give our president the grace to be humble and to seek your face Lord. Provide for him supporters who will be supportive and truthful, and keep those from him that would draw him away from your truth.
Lord, I pray that you would keep our President physically safe and healthy and guard him from the evil one. Supply his needs Lord so that He may see and be reminded of your marvelous deeds. Bless his wife Father, help her to have a noble character and to grow in your grace. Dear Father and GOD Almighty! You are the Ruler of ALL heaven and earth- all will bow down to you for now and forever more! Earthly kings,presidents and world leaders are under your dominion, and are only in power for a day.
I pray that you place the man of your choice in leadership over America, and that he will be a man of strong character, GODly convictions and courage to lead our country! As your word to Joshua was to “be strong and of good courage”, I pray that you instill these words into our new president and national leaders (both Senate and Congress).

O God how I pray for this country. We need you to show you presence tomorrow in this election. I pray with all of my heart that YOU WOULD CHANGE THE COURSE of America. I pray O God for the man that will be put into office……. That his heart would be like a stream of water in your hand and that YOU would be the one who directs it and that YOU would be the giver of his WISDOM. We plead for mercy on America. Dear gracious Heavenly Father,
Fill our president with the fear of the Lord and give him wisdom for every decision he makes. May he reverence You and Your ways and seek to know Your truth. give him discernment to make decisions based on Your revelation. Help him to make Godly choices. Take foolishness out of his heart and enable him to recognize error and avoid it. Open his eyes to see clearly the consequences of any anticipated behavior. We pray he will be a man who listens to godly counselors and not be a man who is unteachable. Give him the strength to reject the counsel of the ungodly and hear Your counsel above all others. We declare that although “many are the plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel will stand.”. We pray he will do what is right rather than follow the leading of his flesh for we know that the wisdom of this world is foolishness. May he keep his eyes on You and tune his ears to hear Your voice.

Most Holy LORD we come to You with a serious request. For we have read in your word, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in government & authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (2 Tim 2:1-4) And You say in 2nd Chronicles 7:14, ” If My people, called by My name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” So please dear Lord, cover us again with protection and turn our hearts to YOU. We know You have the hearts of kings in Your hands and You will direct them. We are asking for Your direction in our government. We need You, we need a revival in our country and we need the spirits of those in our government to be awakened to Your Holy Spirit. We need knees on the floor in somber prayer and hearts united in Christ. Ps 36 says, “Let all the faithful pray to You while You may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are our hiding place; You will protect from trouble and surround us with songs of deliverance. Please God for those in government and for me too, instruct us and teach us in the way that we should go; counsel us and keep Your loving eye on us. Don’t turn away from us Lord. Show those who love You how to lead others to a saving knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Don’t let us be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding and must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but Your unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in You. So we will rejoice in You and be glad, the righteous will sing! Praise You Jesus and in your capable name we ask these things, AMEN

May Your will be done in this election, and may our leader be guided by Your Word. May he love Your law. May He mediate on your statutes, obey your precepts, and hate every wrong path. Father in the name of Jesus I come to you and ask that your will be done in this election. Regardless of what the outcome is I pray for the man you will appoint to us as leader. I pray that you will have your way on Tuesday and that you will begin to prepare his heart to lead this great nation to better and grater future in Christ. I praise You that You are the LORD God Almighty, the Maker, Creator, & Author of our lives and our nation. I praise you that You know all and that You have our best interest at heart. I praise You that You will not turn Your back or leave Your children no matter what.
Father, as Nehemiah prayed – I bow before You confessing my sins, the sins of my family, & the sins of America. We have sinned grievously before You. Remember us our merciful Father & forgive us. Regather us, Father, that our hearts may be unified & that You may be glorified!! Revive our land, our Covenent Maker & Keeper. May You become so obvious that people flock to You seeking to turn their hearts back to You. May our President turn to You. Fill him with Your wisdom, discernment, & knowledge to lead this nation truly forward – not with his personal agenda but with Yours.
May Your church truely be what You intended it to be – a family that loves, as You love. Teach me & us to love as You love, especially those we have grievance with, even our enemies. Lord God, my Sovereign Father, I come to you in the mighty name of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. By His blood, I come with confidence and boldness, and I ask that you hear my prayer. Father, your word says that you set the times for us and the exact places we would live. And you’ve placed so many of your dearly loved children right here in the USA in the year 2012. Help us to live as lights here and to be burdened to regularly pray for our President, a man you have sovereignly placed in this role. I think of Nebuchadnezzar and how you used him for your glory, to accomplish your will. Please use our President in the same way. And as you did for Nebuchadnezzar, bless him with the highest privilege of coming to know the Most High God for himself. Let it be that our president would be able to declare, like Nebuchadnezzar, “the signs and wonders which the Most High God has done” for him.
