Hey, my dear loved ones!
I believe God has placed something on my heart for us to do here in our community for the next several vital days on our nation’s calendar. It will take place in two parts.
Part One: Today and for the next twenty-four hours in comments to this post, those who are willing are going to comprise prayers drawn from Scripture for our new president and the nation he will lead. These Scriptures incorporated into prayers don’t have to be limited to the ones we’re most accustomed to seeing for leaders. By all means, look at those but also consider a Bible-full of precepts that speak to character and integrity and the many qualities that comprise a great leader. See how the Holy Spirit might lay them on your heart and turn them into intercession. Also consider Scriptures that speak to issues like protection from harm for our president and for our nation and wholeness of heart.
If you need a launching point for your thoughts, think about how you’d want people to pray for your husband if he were elected president tomorrow. Go from there. Make it any length from a few sentences to a meaty paragraph but not long. Remember what Jesus said about those wanting to be heard for their many words in prayer. Keep it succinct and sincere. This is really important and you’ll see the reasons why during Part Two. The comments to this post will be limited entirely to prayers. Please add no other words or comments or even greetings or replies to one another on this one. Let’s just do the thing that really makes the difference. Refrain from signing your name to the bottom of it because you’re going to see in Part Two that others will be using it. Just sign off with an “Amen” or similar benediction but do indeed list any references for the verses your prayers were based on.
The most important discipline of this process is writing our prayers before we know who our president will be. Needless to say, other petitions specific to the man who is elected will be vital throughout his presidency but for this public format and for this 24-hour period of time, we’re going to write our prayers without knowing who it will be. I think (and hope!) we will find this approach very effective and helpful in our focus and prayer-direction throughout Part Two. Oftentimes, heightened emotion and opinion cloud focus, clarity, and wisdom in our prayer lives, especially with so much at stake. It’s hard to pray according to the Holy Spirit when our flesh is inflamed. Remember at the end of all of this, our God is sovereign and at no time does He lose control.
Your prayer will need to take this basic skeletal form:
Address God the way you feel led (Dear Father in Heaven or Creator of Heaven and Earth or Sovereign Lord, etc.)
Write the petition for our new president and for our nation.
Conclude it “In Jesus’ Name, Amen” or with something of similar intent and assigned authority.
List all Scripture references that your prayers were drawn from or based on. (Just the locations. You do not need to write them all the way out.)
Part Two: 24-hours or so after this post opens for comment, it will be closed. In other words, by mid-morning Tuesday, November 6th (Election Day) there will be no further way to leave additional comments but you will have full access to all of those already written. (Comments that come in after work hours this evening will all be posted before the 24-hour closure so don’t worry. If you write a prayer before the 24 hours is up, it will get posted when Lindsee is able to complete all moderations. It takes a while.)
After the election results are in, here’s what I’m suggesting. This is the time we get to reap the harvest sown in Part One. Come back to this post and start voicing a number of these prayers that resonate most with you. More importantly perhaps, consider voicing the ones that may be harder for you but you know they are godly, sound, and Scriptural. If you’re less sure about some of them, look up the Scripture references the intercessor listed and see if the context gives you any insight or direction. You can use this as a resource for your prayers not only in this 48-hour period but in days to come. Consider praying several of them per day until you work your way through them. That’s what I’m going to shoot for. I’m hoping to print them out and stick them in my prayer journal and voice several at a time over the weeks to come until I’ve agreed in prayer with practically all of them.
I’m not remotely suggesting this is the only way to pray for the next few days and in the weeks to come. It’s just one way but I really do believe this is the approach God placed upon my heart for our blog community. I’m looking so forward to harvesting some of this fruit in the coming days and there is no doubt in my mind that it will help direct my petitions and cause me to intercede for things I would have overlooked. I am continually inspired in my prayer life by the powerful prayers of others. Aren’t you? Let’s do this, Sisters. I think blessing awaits us and, far more importantly, awaits our new president.
I love you so dearly, ladies. My word, we’ve been around long enough to spend our second election together. I pray with all my heart that God will be pleased with this community and will use it to encourage and edify the Body of Christ in a way only He can empower or explain. He is so worthy of our trust and He is well able and willing to respond to earnest prayers that align with His will and come to Him through the glorious, saving Name of His Son.
Before I sign off, all three Moore-Jones-Fitzpatrick girls could use your prayers! We are all headed to the other side of the world and to two different locations. Later today Melissa and I will board a plane for Greece for a dual-purpose trip over the next 7 days. (Voted early) As guests of Nick and Christine Caine, we will have the privilege of seeing some of the work of the A21 Campaign (Abolishing Injustice in the 21st Century) from a much closer angle and attend (and serve at) a conference there. I love nothing better than seeing what God is doing around this globe. God is using this time on the Kingdom calendar to expose horrendous injustices – particularly in the areas of human trafficking – that need to be fought by the Body of Christ. (See Isaiah 58!)
Melissa and I are also beginning a new Bible study journey together and, with the help of a guide, will be doing research in some very strategic places involved in the series. You will not waste a prayer on us! Pray for God to show us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3) and bless us with powerful encounters and insights and help us to serve people effectively and affectionately there amid such cultural differences. We are certain they will be a blessing of God to us but we want so much to also be a blessing of God to them. THEN, Amanda follows right behind us two days later (on Wednesday) heading to India for a very important mission trip with the organization “As Our Own.” Even in our very different destinations, all three of us will be serving in areas where human trafficking is appallingly prevalent and believers are being mobilized slowly but surely to cry out and labor for its end.

Father God, I pray that you will fill our President with your wisdom so that he may do what is right in your eyes for this country. As Moses admonished the people of Israel in Deuteronomy 4, let us in AMERICA take heed to your comamands and obey them – let our leader be the instrument you use to help lead this nation towards your will.

I pray in faith that our President will have the riches of complete understanding, in order that he may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I pray that no one will deceive him with fine sounding arguments. I pray in faith that our President will receive Jesus as Lord, and will continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as he was taught. I pray he will overflow with thankfulness (acknowledging the Giver of all good gifts). I sincerely pray that no one takes our President captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human traditions and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Thank you that will not leave or forsake your people – those of us who love You, draw near to You, and who are living at this time in this great country for YOUR purposes. We praise you that You are working out YOUR good plans through the election process this week. Though we may not see them now, we cling to the HOPE we have in Your that you are working all things together for good and for Your glory… AMEN!
For our new President, I pray that he would direct his heart to keep your commandments – even if he does not know them as ‘yours’, I pray the bits and pieces of your Word that he has heard throughout his life will guide him. For we know that a long, peaceful and meaningful life are things that come from living by Your principles. I pray that mercy, kindness and truth will not be forgotten, that he would bind these things about his neck and write them on the tablet of his heart. For by doing this he will find favor, understanding and high esteem in your eyes and in the eyes of the world which he will lead.
May his heart lean on, trust and be confident in YOU each day, may he not rely on his own insight and understanding in the situations he will face. In all his actions and decisions may he acknowledge You so that You can direct and make his paths straight. May he not be wise in his own eyes, but learn to reverently fear and worship You, turning entirely away from evil.
Father, from all we are able to see and know of our next leader’s heart, they both need to first call upon You as their Savior. So I pray that both of them will see and be overwhelmed by Your love and be drawn to receive Your gift of salvation so they may enjoy life to the fullest with You in whatever leadership role they will fulfill the next 4 years.

Oh, God Most High, I pray that our President will turn his heart to you. I pray that he will commit to follow you, and surrender himself to your leadership. Father, I thank you so much for knowing that You are in control during this time when things seem so out of control not only in our country, but around this world. Lord, we confess that our nation has forgotten You our Maker and we have bowed to idols in our hearts. I hold up to You this election and its outcome and the man that is elected as our president. May this man know You and worship You and You alone. May your name be glorified through him and by him. You alone are the only righteous judge, blameless and all knowing. We acknowledge Your authority over all the earth, over our country. May our hearts submit to the authority you place over us to lead our nation these next four years. Silence our temptation to talk foolishly against our new president, but help to live as your servants, under the authority of our president, who ultimately will be under your authority. Help our nation to show the proper respect for the incoming president, and be diligent to bring him before your throne of grace.

I pray that You will shower our President with your Holy wisdom and that he will receive, in understanding, Your instruction in righteousness, justice and equity. Lead him in the way everlasting.

Dear Abba, Father I pray for Your mighty hand to be seen on our nation and it’s choice of our earthly leader. I claim Daniel 2:19-22 that You are the One who determines the course of the world and removes and appoints kings. We pray Your light is upon the one chosen to lead our country, the land of the plentiful. I give thanks to the Lord, whose love endures forever (psalm 118). In Your great and MIGHTY Name, Amen.
Father God, we ask that even now you would begin to fall upon our next leader that you would prepare his heart for what you have in store for Him. I pray that our President would be humble, humble enough to recognize that apart from you they can do nothing. I pray that they would seek you in all things with the knowledge that your ways are not our ways but they are far above for even your thoughts are high above ours. Your word says that there is a way that may seem right to man but will lead only to death. So I pray that you Oh God would give wisdom to the man that you have called for such a time as this! Thankyou Lord for hearing our cries. I ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!

Dear Jesus, I pray over our president. I pray that he will turn to You and seek You. I pray for his trust to be in You and for him to rely on Your strength. I pray that You would protect him and shelter him. I pray that you would be his refuge and that you would protect him under your wings. He is undertaking such a huge task for one human man. I pray that You would bring along encouragement to him that he would draw close to You and seek Your face and that You would cover him in Your love and protection. Thank you for hearing our prayers. Father God,
Thank you that because you are Sovereign, you see the big picture. You already know who will be leading our country in the days to come. May integrity and uprightness protect that man as he leads, because our hope is in you, God.
Praying this in the name of resurrected Jesus, Amen
Holy Father-
I know that you are in complete and total control of all things. You will decide who leads this country, and You will use him according to your purposes. I pray that whoever You choose will turn his heart toward your statues and not toward selfish gain; that You would turn his eyes away from worthless things, and preserve his life according to Your word. Fulfill your promise to your servants so that you may be feared. (Psalm 119: 36-38). We ask you for a leader that will be strong and courageous, and that has a heart that loves You completely, willing to live and to lead to Your glory. May there be revival in this land.

Father God- it would seem we are so lost as a nation- but you are in control and you have us here for a reason. We don’t know who our next president will be yet, Lord- but you do and you are sovereign. You are in complete control God and we ask that whoever is elected will have a soft heart to the teachings and truths of your Word. We pray that next president would be saved and washed in the blood of Christ. We ask your blessing on our nation and that many hearts would turn to you, oh God! Find us faithful to pray for our president and our nation not only today but throughout his years in office. You are so good, God. We praise you and we thank you.

Dear Heavenly Father:
I add my voice to the others who are asking for a miracle. We are asking for a man of politics to lead this nation in the path of spiritual intelligence. While I believe it is entirely probable for a politician to be devout and a believer, I do believe it is difficult for a person with that much power, with this many different agendas, with so much protocol… to be able to live his convictions. I’m asking for that. For the person elected to be convicted to #1 – Be totally yours. #2 – to base every powerful decision he makes on the loving law of God.

Father, I praise You for America and the foundation this country was built on. I thank You for the blessings and prosperity You alone have given this country. “You are righteous, O Lord, but we are humiliated this day, for we have sinned!” We have done what is wrong; we have rebelled by turning away from your Word. Yet, You are compassionate and forgiving and a merciful God. Please Father, have mercy on us. Not because of our righteous deeds, but because your compassion is abundant. (Dan 9)
I pray Father for the man that will be elected tomorrow. The man You chose as our President because You alone establish times and seasons, and set up leaders over nations. I pray that whoever is elected will know Jesus. I pray he and his family will be washed in the saving blood of Jesus and live accordingly. I do not claim to know their hearts, Father, but I just ask that if the man or anyone that advises him does not know You, that You would supernaturally intervene and call them to You. For we know that there is no other name under heaven given among people by which me must be saved, only Jesus. (Acts 4.12) We thank you Jesus! Please do what only You can!

Dear Heavenly Father you know the needs and concerns of all our hearts. You know what lies ahead of us for our Nation a great nation that was founded on your principles and vlaues. You have shown mercy and grace on our country so many times. I ask you show it again for the leadership of the President of the United States of America. We pray for an honest sensible leader who keeps his stablility in all things! We pray for safety, comfort, guidance, peace , love for our new president and his family. We pray he sees the need and understands how bad our nation so desperately needs God. Help us Jesus be people who respect our president and speak only word that will glorify you Jesus! Lord,
I pray that our President would be a man of genuine faith in Jesus Christ. If not, that he would come to know you and the power of your resurrection (Phil 3:10).
I pray that he would know the futility of worldly wisdom, and instead, depend on you in prayer.
Many may be the plans of his heart, but Lord may your purpose prevail (Prov 19:21).

Our great and awesome God and Heavenly Father may our President first and foremost know the fear of the Lord. In the Name of Jesus, equip our President with good understanding and lead him to follow Your precepts. Dear Father,
Your word says that there is “no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God”. Those are comforting words as the election looms over us. I lift up our next leader and pray that he humbles his heart to You. I pray that you give him wisdom and knowledge, and that you surround him with Godly people that will support him. I pray that you give him strength for this is not an easy job. Mostly, Oh Father, I pray that Your will be done in this country and his life, as well as, those who have also been divinely placed in a position of influence for our country. This is Your Land, Oh Father. Bless us and keep us!

Will you draw our President to yourself? Humble him as you did Nebuchadnezzar to see that everything was made by you and for the glory of your great Name.
Give him an unwavering passion to see all life protected, from conception to natural death, and to enact laws that would rescue children from surgical tools and procedures that do great harm and from the gross injustices of sex trafficking.
I pray he would make sound economic decisions regarding our nation’s budget and debt. Give him wisdom to know whether to go to the right or the left as he makes any decision.

My prayer for the man of Your choosing, first and foremost is that You, being rich in mercy and great in love, even when we are dead in our transgressions, might make our President alive together with Christ, for it is only by Your grace that any of us are saved! Heavenly Father,
We trust in You that this election is already settled and You have chosen our leader. Forsake not your people Lord! Forgive us for turning away from You! I pray this day for the man that you have already chosen. May he lead your people wisely not only in strength but in servanthood. Matthew 20:26 reminds us true greatness comes to those willing serve. Let our President remember that Lord. Give him a desire to serve Your people and not rule over them.

Intervene in our country’s future! Please reach your hand into the hearts and minds of ALL people of the United States and draw them to you. Open eyes to see, open ears to hear.
Father, we pray this promise: that if Your People, who are called by Your Name, will humble themselves and pray, and turn from our wicked ways, then you will hear from Heaven, you will forgive our sin, and you will HEAL OUR LAND. (2 Chr. 7:14)
I pray this over the head and leader of our country, that he would bring himself under your authority and be the chief example of humility, prayer and repentance to Your sovereign will of how we as a nation can honor you.
Sovereign Lord, I plead as Abraham pleaded for Sodom: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous people…?” (Genesis 18: 23-33) Lord, though I am but dust and ashes, I plead for the Judge of all the earth to spare our nation if there are only a few who are righteous.
Lord, capture the heart of our nation’s leader, and guide him into all truth. Compel him to please you with all that he does, and to speak, act and make decisions only by your wisdom and guidance.
Bring into our leader’s heart a deep and heavy sense of his accountability to You Father God, and give him vision and hope for our nation, and help him to lead our nation into that hope and future. Protect him, protect his family, bind any evil that may affect him, his advisors, his family, his detractors. Confuse the wicked, confound their words (Ps. 55:9).

Dear Father of Lights,
We praise You that no matter who wins the presidency, JESUS IS KING! We confess any prayer-less-ness and ask You to help us remember to embody II Chronicles 7:14.
We lift up our president to You. We ask that he will recognize every good & perfect gift comes down from You. With You, Father of Lights, there is no variableness or shadow of turning. (James 1:17). I pray that the President will not be double-minded but will be stable. (James 1:8) Most of all I pray that if he doesn’t know You, he will come to know You, for we know that You do not wish anyone to perish but all to come to repentance. (II Pet. 3:9)

Precious Heavenly Father,
I humbly come to you now with praise and adoration for you, our maker, Knowing that all things are in your control. We are lifting our upcoming President up to you today that you would make him a leader who seeks to please you. I ask Father, that you would bless him with peace by making him a man of Trust, Faith and Prayer.
Help him be a man that will trust you as in Isaiah 12:2; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song. Make him a man of Faith as in Romans 5:1; since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
