“My husband is in Afghanistan and a few ‘favorite things’ would brighten my day!”
How about that, Sisters?!? OK, Edie, please contact Living Proof Ministries at toll free (888) 700-1999 and give us an address. Please ask for Kimberly or Susan. Knowing what we now know, all of us here would want so much to send you to the beach…but, instead, we’re sending the beach to you. ENJOY!!!
PROCEED WITH CAUTION: this post will embody most everything you anticipate and perhaps even despise about women’s ministry. There will even be pink nail polish. As the great Professor Thornbury said a few weeks ago on the Twitterverse “something is not a stumbling block if you can see it coming.” So, consider yourself warned.
Colin and I just returned from a week at the beach in Mexico. It was crazy fantastic. I slept. I read classic literature. I also swam with a dolphin named Duey. And on the day I returned home I was greeted abrasively by a stomach bug and a crick in my neck so bad I could barely move my head. Oh, and then my 100 lb puppy Winston ate my over-priced prescription eye-glasses. But how can I really be frustrated with this bad boy?
Anyway, since this weekend was the Memorial Day holiday I scrolled through numerous tweets from people who were somewhere fabulous while I was at home with a bag of frozen corn under my neck. And I began to weep for the serenity of the ocean and my dolphin Duey.
But enough about me.
I want to talk about you.
I got to thinking that there may be some of you who won’t get a break this summer. While nearly everyone you know is off to some fabulous island, you won’t get a moment’s rest. For whatever reason, you won’t be able to retreat to the beach or the mountains or to wherever else makes your heart happy. We want to send a little fun and lots of love your direction so we’re doing a random give-away. And it will not include commentaries, concordances, or anything super useful or meaningful.
This giveaway is simply full of some of my personal favorite summer things including: Bobbi Brown Beach parfum (seriously smells exactly like the beach!), classic Ray-Ban aviators, Votivo Candle in White Ocean Sands, a pair of bright yellow Moleskine notebooks, Tea Forte’ Pomegranate Blackberry Iced Tea, and America’s Test Kitchen Best Summer Dessert recipes. See the contents below:
There are really no conditions for this giveaway. My hope, of course, is that this gift makes it into the hands of someone who simply can’t get a break this year and not someone who is heading to the Maldives or Bora Bora next week to stay in one of those little huts with glass floors sprawled across sparkling turquoise waters. But truly, if this gift brings a big smile to a single one of your faces that is quite enough for me.
So, please enter your name in the comments section if you could use a little sunshine in your world. We’ll do a random drawing and announce the winner at noon on this Thursday the 31st.
You are loved.
Melissa
What a wonderful gift for those who can’t get away 🙂
Staycation here i come;-)
I would love to receive a summer give-away gift. Things are difficult for people everywhere. It is very kind of you to realize this!

would love a little summer treat!
Thanks,
Bonnie Brigman
Would absolutely loooove this!
Yea Summer! Thank you!
Yea for summer! Thank you!
This is so generous. I’m from New Zealand, so a little far to join the fun, and anyway it’s winter here – boo. But wanted to say, glad I’m not you, choosing from all these amazing ladies who are so worthy of a few treaties like this.
A geechee girl whom God plopped in the Arizona desert — sand and seawater flow through my veins! Our vacation will be spent at “the tiny beach” (otherwise known as the pool in our backyard) and doing Beth’s James study! Would love a little beach pampering! Thanks for such a great idea! Blessings to you all!

How fun! It’s a perfect pick-me-up 🙂
Wow! Great gifts, great idea. Thank you!
Love it !
What a fun way to start summer!
🙂
I’m sure it is probably too late. But I loved your post and could use a little sunshine today. 🙂
Happy Summer!
What a fun idea! My daughter who’s living life like a shut-in with two terminal babies could definitely use this to boost her spirits!
My favorite blog. Thanks!
Beach Giveaway
This would make me smile! 😉
This would be awesome. The beach is my favorite place – unfortunately I live in the Midwest and can’t afford a beach vacation anytime soon. Finances are high, my husband is facing a prison sentence, my daughter has some mystery illness, and now my dog has tested positive for heartworm. I could really use a beach vacation. Lol- oh well, life goes on and I am sure there will be plenty of “beaches” in the future God has planned for me.
Wow, this is incredible! I would love to win. We may not take a vacation this year…my husband is between jobs and trying to start his own business. Whoever wins, these goodies will be awesome!! 🙂
What a lovely thought. I have foot surgery in a week. My summer will require a boot for 8 weeks. There will not be any traveling for a while. Thanks for thinking of us. May God bless you.
Dolphin Island, AL is probably my favorite closeby beach. Nothing special to others but to me it is where I see my Jesus everytime I go. Whether in the waves, sky, sunrise or sunset. One can always be assured HE is there. I am fortunate enough to live close now to this heaven on earth. I can almost hear the waves (HE is always close.
Enter me!
I was blessed when I read your post this morning. As I sit at my computer waiting to get my kids up for school, I checked to see where my Breaking Free member book was today. (It’s due to be delivered tomorrow.) I just finished James. 🙂
Thanks for thinking of women who won’t get that vacation this year or maybe even next.
As a farming family with 9 children and 1 income, vacations were never in our budget. Maybe they never will be, but I am blessed!!
A few years ago, my daughter in law introduced me to Beth Moore.
I had tried a couple of studies over the years but they were not very interesting and a bit dry.
Beth Moore is anything but dry! I love her and am on my 6th study on my way to finishing them all.
My spiritual life has been transformed! Seriously!
Sometimes the studies take me a lot longer that 8 or 10 weeks depending on what is happening in my life but I have loved every one I have done!! Daniel was amazing!
Thank you for being here and bringing life to women who desperately need it. Lives are being changed. Mine included.
So today, this sister on the other side of the screen will be sitting in a tractor harrowing fields getting them ready to plant in northern New York. Very different maybe from what others who write in will be doing but I am very thankful that Lifeway is here helping us all to be those in whom the word of God is living and active!
May you be blessed today!

Hello
My name is Nicki and I would like to enter this for one of the women in our community who just lost her husband. I hope to bless her with a little sunshine and show her God is still there and always will be.

What a sweet giveaway! Your puppy is adorable!
Caroline johnson I would love to win those things!!!
Aw darn..it figures, I get on here and you have probably picked the winner already. I am not a winner when it comes to drawings, never have been. But I won’t stop trying. Thank goodness I win every day that I choose Jesus in my life. I heard your mom on the radio for about 1 minutes yesterday and it was like a breath of fresh air. I hadn’t heard her in 2 years since my last conference. Truth is, never been to a beach, truth is that is a dream of dreams that will one day come tru. IT may be my heavenly home, but one day I will walk the shores, feeling the sea at my feet. Until then young ones to raise, a ministry to keep going and work to be done!
Sunshine and smiles…oh so thoughtful…and so much fun!! :o)
Would love this!
This summer I’ll be moving, so any vacation I take will be all in my head. =D What a lovely idea you have here. Thanks for such a sweet, refreshing post. ~Edie
What fun prizes!
Awesome give away…Markettys
So cute!!! I’m not throwing my hat in the ring because I will get a week on the beach in North Carolina to break up what will be a CRAAAAZZZZZYYYY busy summer, but I had to say that is an absolutely adorable beach gift!!!!!!
Thanks Melissa for a chance to win something fun. This has been a very hard year becoming a single parent and all the things that go with it. I thank God for this website and can’t wait to start the summer bible study.
Found this amazing give away through following your Mom’s twitter. Just finished the James study. You both are a blessing!
Theresa Johnson – hope it’s not too late to enter me in the contest:)
Pick me! Pick me! haha
The giveaway seems heavenly. I can see myself sipping tea under the sun with those glasses!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Send me some sunshine, baby! God bless!
What a great summer give-away. Love it!
you DO know how to minister to us – even with just the hope of winning a summer’s worth of goodies!
<3
Summer fun that doesn’t require sun-screen!
Big graduation tomorrow! In-Laws and Out Laws coming in today – I will need some beach!
Jeannette
I would absolutely LOVE a chance at winning this giveaway package. I’m home this summer caring for my nieces and nephews along with my own children. I am an autism paraeducator at a school, therefore I’m ‘all-time’ sitter when schools out. Lol. Thank you for a chance to be in the drawing! Love you siestas!!
