My Fun Little Siesta Surprise!

Hey, Sweet Things! Do some of you remember me telling you that I had a little surprise for you in the works? THIS IS IT!!!!! Our very own Siesta Scripture Memory Team SPIRAL!!!! Inside are 30 blank index cards just begging to be filled with your choice of memory verses. I’m almost having to stand up to type because I am so pumped. For those of you who are new to our community, one of the things we prioritize and love to do around here is memorize Scripture. It is a huge part of calling the mind captive to Christ (2 Cor. 10:3-5) and most of us know from experience that our battles are won or lost in our MINDS. I have been actively memorizing Scripture as a primary Spiritual discipline since my early 30’s. I am thoroughly convinced that God used it to bring immeasurable healing to my mind, my memories, and my thought life. I tend toward obsessive thoughts and fears and unrelenting replays of bad memories and, when I fall away from actively hiding God’s Word in my heart, they come back with a vengeance. Anybody else? There are no words big enough to express the difference Scripture memory has made in my life. God also showed me along the way how much accountability and partnership can enhance the success of the discipline. Two years ago I was trying to decide who I should ask to be my accountability partner for that year and God brought the idea to my mind to make it the whole willing blog community and to offer accountability to them in return. The result was one of the neatest experiences we’ve ever had on this blog. I honestly have never felt the pleasure of God more fully over anything we’ve done here.

We created “The Siesta Scripture Memory Team” and each made it our goal to memorize 24 verses, two a month for that calendar year. We signed in on the first and fifteenth of each month with the present verse God was placing on our hearts. (We didn’t memorize the same one together. It works best if we each get to memorize the verses that most apply to our present lives and circumstances. However, I always offered my verse in case someone else was drawing a blank or felt that it also resonated with them. In those cases, some of us memorized the same thing.) We logged in twice a month with our first names, cities, verses, and translations and held each other accountable to get them hidden in our hearts for keeps. We worked hard and saw victory after victory over the flesh and the kingdom of darkness. We topped off the year with a free event in Houston for those who kept their commitment. The only ticket in was a well-used spiral. We had a BLAST. As long as I live, I’ll never forget what all of you looked like in pairs, saying half of your verses to one another.

Well, the SSMT (Siesta Scripture Memory Team) is BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! We will begin January 1st. Look for very specific instructions next week on how to participate. (Hold off on as many questions as possible until that time because the post will answer so many.) Everyone is welcome! Even those who have never visited our blog before. Anyone who wants some accountability in memorizing Scripture is invited. Let me also quickly say that no one is pressured to participate. You won’t be an outcast here. We still do many other things on this blog. It’s just an offer made in much love to those who would benefit from it in their walk with Christ. Living Proof Ministries exists to encourage women to love the Lord Jesus Christ and walk with Him in His Word. This is one way we hope to accomplish our ongoing goal to the great glory of God.

Again, I will get you all the details within the next week BUT I needed to let you know NOW about our brand new, you-inspired SSMT spirals! Let me tell you a couple of things about them in advance:

*You are by no means required to have one to participate! These are strictly for those of you who want one! It is very easy to go to your neighborhood Walgreen’s, CVS or Target and grab a spiral of index cards. That’s what I’ve done every year up until now. (But, admit it, aren’t these the cutest things ever?? I.LOVE.IT. I am so thankful for Sabrina who jumped on the vision the moment I expressed it to her and for Cheryl Casey who listened carefully to the concept then created this design for it and for our beloved Cathy at Copy Doctor who sped ahead and got them printed. As we always say around here, it takes a village.)

*You are welcome to order one even if you don’t wish to participate in the SSMT. Many of us may not want the added pressure of 2 verses a month but we still like to keep a Scripture memory spiral. By all means! There is no legalism where these are concerned. If you want one, you can have one. If you don’t, you’re free!

*We very much wanted to serve you with this spiral and not attempt to make any profit off of it. We are offering it to you only at our cost plus shipping and handling. This is NOT a way for the ministry to make money. You’ll see that it is $3 plus S/H. Sabrina got the cost as low as possible. I was thrilled with this outcome.

*Now, listen to this part carefully. Once you place your order, we will turn them around as quickly as humanly possible. Please keep in mind that our staff is small but very willing to serve! We also have Christmas holidays to celebrate so the ministry will be closed part of the time. Many of you who order right away may have your spirals by January 1st but if we end up with several thousand orders (we have no idea what to expect), yours may not get to you until the second week or so of the new year. Please know that we’re going to get them to you as fast as we are physically able. Just write your first couple of verses on temporary index cards until you receive your order then write them again permanently in your spiral when you receive it. Sound good?

And, because I know someone’s going to demand to know now: yes, we are going to have another SSMT celebration (in mid-January 2012) for those who keep their commitments in 2011 but no one – let me say that again – NO ONE will be scorned for not showing up with this cool spiral. I mean that. I am also laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of it. I am acting like a nine year old.

OK, if you want one, here’s what you do. Copy and paste this link into your browser and it will take you straight to the order page:

http://www.lproof.org/store/product.asp?itemid=2011SMTspiral

Listen, even if you don’t care one iota about a spiral of blank index cards, please know that we at Living Proof Ministries so desire to serve you and cheer you on in your walk with Christ Jesus. He is everything to us around here. May He be thrilled to spend 2011 with us!

I love you,

Beth

I will be memorizing Scripture along again with you and so look forward to planting seeds of His Word in my heart You are my accountability partners! I ran across a website that helps you memorize Scripture last year when I was doing this called Scripture Typer–I think it was Holly who suggested it. It’s a great tool along with the notebooks to practice memorizing each verse and reviewing them when you’re on the computer. Looking forward to 2011 already!

I didn’t start following this blog until late in 2009, so I didn’t know about the SSMT or the celebration. Now, I’m so excited to participate… And about the celebration??? I’m clearing my Jan. 2012 calendar now!! And just this week I was adding a spiral index cards to my shopping list. Well, guess where I’m getting it now?!!

    Vickie says:

Well, dang it….I’m having to order more spirals….WooHoo!!! In Jesus name, I pray we ALL stay with this in 2011. Seriously, it’s 2 verses a month. I’m miffed at myself for being so selfish to not participate in 2009. Look at the cross….look at 2 verses….look at the cross…look at 2 verses….

Briefly, I may have missed this discussion, so pardon if I did. But, I just love the lil unique quilt pieces out beside our names. The symbols may represent something else but thats what it represents to me. It brings back a rare happy childhood memory. In the winter time, we would all help Mom by cutting quilt pieces out of some of the clothes we had outgrown. It made the quilts she’d hand sew even more special. I still have one of those quilts. Thanks for the detail of your blog.
    I love you guys.

    Beth,
I just love your studies. My sister does them with the teachers she works with and I have been doing them at my church. I have been moved and challenged by each one. Not wanting to put you on a pedestal and I know you don’t want me to, I believe God has gifted you with a unique and down to earth way to reach women. I am leading some of your Bible studies. We just finished Esther, love the way you told her story and how you emphasized that there were problems and it was not a fairytale with a happily ever after ending. We will start a new one in February and am praying that God will let me know which one will benefit this group of ladies. They loved your study and it has excited them to study the Bible. I hope to be at your conference in April in Little Rock, AR. Thank you for your ministry

    Robin says:

Right now I am praying in Jesus’ lavish Name that He will appoint some spontaneous moments like these for you and your family or friends. I am well aware that life is hard and all of us could use some reminders that God has not forsaken us – and never will – and that He is only good and never malicious or unfeeling toward us. My next memory verse is James 1:17 β€œEvery generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning.” (James 1:17 HCS)

Oh, thank You, Lord. You never change. You never turn Your back on us.

You will never know how much I needed to read those words today! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I wish I could give you a hug! I love you and your ministry so very much!

Thank Beth and LP team!! I’m so agree that there is no way to describe the power of memorizing God’s word to transform the way we think, feel and then live! I’ve never done the SSMT but I am going to in 2011. I want/need the accountability and encouragement to stay consistent. One thing I love to do is walk or jog in the morning with my spiral and pray the scripture I am memorizing out loud. It’s the best way for me to get it engraved on my heart and mind. Now I’ll have a cute spiral! Just ordered 2 – one for me and one for my best friend!

I am excited about the idea of the spirals. I keep my memory verses in a file on my ipod, so I have them and a Bible with me wherever I go, but I plan to participate. Came from Michigan to South Dakota to go to my first conference with my friend Laura and it was so special to experience it together.
Everyone have a Merry Christmas and whatever your sturggles, may the new year be brighter.

I hold my spirals close to my heart that I learned from you to do from the beginnings of my bible studies with you! Way back in 2003-2004 πŸ™‚ Great idea AND I carry my Praying Gods Word with me every where, its my BIG Spiral! Love it!

I remembered how much it meant so much to me to do the memory work with special verses that meant so much to me in 2009. So glad you are doing this again! An excellent thing….Love to you Beth, Allison

  35. 385

I am SO excited!!! My hubby just shook his head at me and smiled (I think wondering if he would have to have me committed, as I started jumping up and down at my computer)

I ordered 2 just in case I can get a friend to join me on the Siesta Scripture Memory this year, to have some local accountability. And maybe a travel partner come next year.

This year I did do 1st and 15th scripture memory and kept a spiral, but it was much harder, and if I were pressed, I don’t think I could tell you what very many of the verses were, or get them from memory. It was good, and they were needed at the time for those weeks. I could see God working in leading me to the verses I needed. But it was hard for me to keep up and truly get them memorized all the way. A few stuck with me though.

Hope to see you in January 2012!!! πŸ™‚

Thank you so much for these spirals, they are so perfect!!!!

God bless to you and all of your behind-the-scenes hard workers! May God bless you this year!

Beth-Beth-Beth my dear sister! I have not been on the blog in a month and boy how much I realize how much this blog community and your inspiring words mean to me and my personal walk with Jesus and my Father. I am for sure joining in for the first time with the SMV and so excited about doing so, BUT I just want to tell you something: as I read this blog I realized a key thing I have learned from you over the years – you have the most beautiful and real way of not placing GUILT on us. We are so guilt stricken in all areas of life and you reflect God’s heart perfectly in that area. I know I could get 1000’s of amens to that. So thank you for your way of doing that and as a small group leader I bring that same freedom to my women. Freedom brings love and desires to do things we normally would rebel against. I love being FREE and have it in part because of your teaching in Bible studies and the blog. Thank you Beth and Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family. God Bless! and yes, those “spirals” are the coolest thing since sliced bread. I am all in. Deb from snowy and cold Michingan.

Some sisters to memorize Scripture with this year. I loved doing it together before and missed everyone this last year. Can’t wait to start. Will probably use my Walgreen’s sprial as you sound at bit overwhelmed with getting spirals out. What wonderful predicament.

    Linda says:

    Beth,
I thought I would just forgo the spiral because I didn’t want to be a problem. However, I have decided just to ask and see what you think. Is it possible to order by check through snail mail? We have “orders from on high” in this household not to order on-line.
I’m sure you are already overwhelmed with orders and this is asking a bit much. I will just use the one I have my other verses on from last time if it isn’t possible.
Love you Beth. Have a joyous, blessed Christmas!

Definitely call the ministry and ask, Leslie, because they might be really happy for you to just pick one up. I just want you to make sure they have the new shipment in first. The office is open Tuesday and Wednesday this week so call then.
