My Fun Little Siesta Surprise!

Hey, Sweet Things! Do some of you remember me telling you that I had a little surprise for you in the works? THIS IS IT!!!!! Our very own Siesta Scripture Memory Team SPIRAL!!!! Inside are 30 blank index cards just begging to be filled with your choice of memory verses. I’m almost having to stand up to type because I am so pumped. For those of you who are new to our community, one of the things we prioritize and love to do around here is memorize Scripture. It is a huge part of calling the mind captive to Christ (2 Cor. 10:3-5) and most of us know from experience that our battles are won or lost in our MINDS. I have been actively memorizing Scripture as a primary Spiritual discipline since my early 30’s. I am thoroughly convinced that God used it to bring immeasurable healing to my mind, my memories, and my thought life. I tend toward obsessive thoughts and fears and unrelenting replays of bad memories and, when I fall away from actively hiding God’s Word in my heart, they come back with a vengeance. Anybody else? There are no words big enough to express the difference Scripture memory has made in my life. God also showed me along the way how much accountability and partnership can enhance the success of the discipline. Two years ago I was trying to decide who I should ask to be my accountability partner for that year and God brought the idea to my mind to make it the whole willing blog community and to offer accountability to them in return. The result was one of the neatest experiences we’ve ever had on this blog. I honestly have never felt the pleasure of God more fully over anything we’ve done here.

We created “The Siesta Scripture Memory Team” and each made it our goal to memorize 24 verses, two a month for that calendar year. We signed in on the first and fifteenth of each month with the present verse God was placing on our hearts. (We didn’t memorize the same one together. It works best if we each get to memorize the verses that most apply to our present lives and circumstances. However, I always offered my verse in case someone else was drawing a blank or felt that it also resonated with them. In those cases, some of us memorized the same thing.) We logged in twice a month with our first names, cities, verses, and translations and held each other accountable to get them hidden in our hearts for keeps. We worked hard and saw victory after victory over the flesh and the kingdom of darkness. We topped off the year with a free event in Houston for those who kept their commitment. The only ticket in was a well-used spiral. We had a BLAST. As long as I live, I’ll never forget what all of you looked like in pairs, saying half of your verses to one another.

Well, the SSMT (Siesta Scripture Memory Team) is BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! We will begin January 1st. Look for very specific instructions next week on how to participate. (Hold off on as many questions as possible until that time because the post will answer so many.) Everyone is welcome! Even those who have never visited our blog before. Anyone who wants some accountability in memorizing Scripture is invited. Let me also quickly say that no one is pressured to participate. You won’t be an outcast here. We still do many other things on this blog. It’s just an offer made in much love to those who would benefit from it in their walk with Christ. Living Proof Ministries exists to encourage women to love the Lord Jesus Christ and walk with Him in His Word. This is one way we hope to accomplish our ongoing goal to the great glory of God.

Again, I will get you all the details within the next week BUT I needed to let you know NOW about our brand new, you-inspired SSMT spirals! Let me tell you a couple of things about them in advance:

*You are by no means required to have one to participate! These are strictly for those of you who want one! It is very easy to go to your neighborhood Walgreen’s, CVS or Target and grab a spiral of index cards. That’s what I’ve done every year up until now. (But, admit it, aren’t these the cutest things ever?? I.LOVE.IT. I am so thankful for Sabrina who jumped on the vision the moment I expressed it to her and for Cheryl Casey who listened carefully to the concept then created this design for it and for our beloved Cathy at Copy Doctor who sped ahead and got them printed. As we always say around here, it takes a village.)

*You are welcome to order one even if you don’t wish to participate in the SSMT. Many of us may not want the added pressure of 2 verses a month but we still like to keep a Scripture memory spiral. By all means! There is no legalism where these are concerned. If you want one, you can have one. If you don’t, you’re free!

*We very much wanted to serve you with this spiral and not attempt to make any profit off of it. We are offering it to you only at our cost plus shipping and handling. This is NOT a way for the ministry to make money. You’ll see that it is $3 plus S/H. Sabrina got the cost as low as possible. I was thrilled with this outcome.

*Now, listen to this part carefully. Once you place your order, we will turn them around as quickly as humanly possible. Please keep in mind that our staff is small but very willing to serve! We also have Christmas holidays to celebrate so the ministry will be closed part of the time. Many of you who order right away may have your spirals by January 1st but if we end up with several thousand orders (we have no idea what to expect), yours may not get to you until the second week or so of the new year. Please know that we’re going to get them to you as fast as we are physically able. Just write your first couple of verses on temporary index cards until you receive your order then write them again permanently in your spiral when you receive it. Sound good?

And, because I know someone’s going to demand to know now: yes, we are going to have another SSMT celebration (in mid-January 2012) for those who keep their commitments in 2011 but no one – let me say that again – NO ONE will be scorned for not showing up with this cool spiral. I mean that. I am also laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of it. I am acting like a nine year old.

OK, if you want one, here’s what you do. Copy and paste this link into your browser and it will take you straight to the order page:

http://www.lproof.org/store/product.asp?itemid=2011SMTspiral

Listen, even if you don’t care one iota about a spiral of blank index cards, please know that we at Living Proof Ministries so desire to serve you and cheer you on in your walk with Christ Jesus. He is everything to us around here. May He be thrilled to spend 2011 with us!

I love you,

Beth

Yay! I started this last time but didn’t keep with it. No excuses but with a 4 year old, and nursing school it’s hard to keep up!
I am convinced I am going to keep up with it this year. I ordered two spirals, one for a friend as well. She doesn’t get on here and blog but loves memorizing scripture, so we can do it together as well. I might even end up getting her on here..well see. Either way I am so excited to start, I had to start early. Short but so ever sweet…Prov. 18:10- “The name of the Lord is a Strongtower, the righteous run to it and are safe” For safety, when fearful.
    Blessings~

I’m a single-mom in a rural area and fellowship, other than church, is sometimes difficult, but now I have you guys!! Can’t wait!

Thank you for sharing the AGAPE love of Christ through your big Texas heart! I ordered 2 spirals, (wanted to order more to give as gifts, but didn’t want to seem greedy, and thought about all the other Siestas on here who might want one too!) Feel so blessed to be part of such an inspiring group of women.
Have fun during this season of Advent! =D

    Pamela says:

Oh Beth-it is so adorable but not big enough for me!!! Two years of memorizing scripture and I plan to memorize a verse a week for 2011. It has become my life line in this chaotic world. I will order one and then use the back sides of the cards also-that should work, right???? I also hope to be at the end-of-the year event in 2012. Maybe I will order several and give them away-what great “stocking stuffers” for friends.

Thank you so much!! Have a blessed CHRISTmas!!

    apurefire says:

Yay! I just ordered mine and a few for some friends. I so need the accountability the blog offers. I didn’t do so well this past year and was so encouraged to read that other siestas had trouble too – whew – I wasn’t the only one ;o)

I was so blessed to go to Houston last time and am planning on attending in 2012. Thank you so much for starting the team back up again!! Have a wonderful Christmas.

    NCMom27577 says:

Back in the 1980’s my neighbors were in the Navigators. They had the neatest little cards they had gotten somewhere, the idea was to read the topic, then the verse, the reference, and the little card packs were not expensive. I put a silver key chain loop through the blue plastic sleeve and hung it on the refrigerator. The cards have been passed on to my adult son now but Scripture memory from their sharing that method with me has brought me through the valley on many days.
The Holy Spirit has you speaking directly to me on “Wednesdays with Beth” on “Life Today” with James and Betty Robison. Being alone here 1200 miles from home meeting with you every Wednesday is such a blessing. Merry Christmas sweet Siesta!

    Just ordered my spiral!!!

I did not do this the first time, but I am so excited to do this and to have the accountability of the siestas!!!!!

    Heather says:

I SO need this motivation and encouragement right now! After being part of a wonderful, alive church in Katy, we moved back to Oklahoma and the churches here are…well, lacking. Ironic for the so-called Bible belt. Not that I should depend on the church for my daily walk and scripture memorization but the encouragement from fellow Christ followers can help so much. SO thankful for all you do.

I’ll be ordering one, Merry Christmas to me!

    Heather

    Church Lady says:

I ordered 2!! I can’t wait to start. Our women’s DT class is going through Breaking Free. I know that it is crucial to place God’s word in your heart. Pray for me…my memory is not very good anymore. This will take the Lord!

  27. 327
    Jennifer Pipes says:

Yay! Yay! Yay! I’m so excited I can hardly wait! I’ve been talking it up to others in my area so they can participate too! Last year’s SSMT was one of the highlights of my year. It was such a blessing and so much fun! And the event in Houston was fun too! I can’t wait to come again in 2012! Can’t wait to get my SSMT spiral! Thank you!

Yea! Thank you so much, Beth, for doing this again. I was in on the first one and still carry the notebook with me even today. Can’t tell you how many times those verses have been used. This time I’m inviting my whole bible study class to join in the fun.

    Have a very merry Christmas!

    Robin says:

I participated in memorizing with a spiral index last time, and I’ve kept it up ever since. It’s such a great way to get God’s Word into your heart. I keep my spiral in my bag so whenever I want to I can pull it out and meditate on a verse or two. Thanks for doing this again! This blog is such a blessing! I’m still deep into reading some of those great Christian biographies readers suggested awhile back. Love all the different topics covered here!

  32. 332
    Esabelle says:

I am so excited that we are doing this again. I learned all my verses last time and was all set to come to Houston and say all of them and then didn’t get to come at the last minute due to health issues. But, even though I was disappointed the real payoff was hiding those scriptures in my heart and the deeper connection with Jesus. Maybe I’ll make it to Houston this time. Can’t wait to get started again. Oh, not that I stopped memorizing scripture but I wasn’t as faithful this year and am glad for the accountability again. Thanks, Beth.

    Bethany says:

I am so in!!!! I have very fond memories of my year memorizing scripture in 2009 and again of the SSMT Celebration this past January. I can’t wait to do this again. I need it in a bad way right now…things are not so good. All prayers are appreciated. I have some major garbage to deal with this year that has raised to the surface this month. I am very scared but in God’s goodness and great plan (nothing is coincidental with Him) I will be filling my mind with truth while my thoughts will be visiting painful memories that run deep into the past. Getting one of those sweet spirals!

    Beth,

Thank you SO much! I am SO excited about the SSMT! I have been in dire need of an accountability partner for not only my scripture memorizing, but also my quiet time-who knew I would get an entire community! Thank you for being a constant role model for me and all of our sisters in Christ. Here’s to 2011 and all my newly found Siestaville sisters in Christ!

Hope to see everyone in Houston in 2012!!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to get in on the SSMT from the get go this time. I wanted to join last time, but I have this weird thing about jumping into something that is already in progress and I didn’t find out about it until it had already be going on for a few months. This time, NO EXCUSES, AND I’ll have my official SSMT notecards to keep me on track! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks. Much love!

Yea! My SSMT spiral is on it’s way. By God’s grace I will endeavor to memorize Psalms 139 this year, and hopefully by His ability in me “earn” a place at the Houston celebration of memorizing Siestas. I’m a Houston, coming to Houston, by faith! (And yes, my husband is related to Sam Houston through a brother of Sam Houston. That means that the famous son of Texas is a Great-great-great Uncle of my husband!)
