Hello Saturday Off! (And a Little Announcement)

Hey, You Darling Things!

I’ve had the best week because Melissa’s been in town since Monday. We’ve been together with the Joneses a ton of times and having everybody together brings me so much joy. I’ve told you before that my girls make me laugh like nobody else on earth. We just sat at FreshBerry and laughed until we nearly threw up our FreshBerry tart. (Are you guys into that yet? And, yes, I already know it’s a knock-off of Pink Berry but, since we don’t have Pink Berry in Houston, uh, we’re just going to knock it off. You just can’t be cooler than you are.)

These were our choices today. Amanda got Fruity Pebbles on hers which was a throw back to her childhood and reminded me of her little sister who tends to have the taste buds of a first grader. She also got blueberries and strawberries so that, true to form, her fruit could stay in the same color palette. Melissa is our riskier one with a menu but it doesn’t always pay off. (For instance, she’ll try the club sandwich at a Chinese restaurant or pasta and marinara at some place like Chili’s.) This time she tried the Key Lime Chiffon with graham crackers because the guy at the counter said it tasted just like the pie and, even though it was good, it was not as good as my traditional fare and she mostly assisted me in scraping the bottom of my cup. (I think I also licked it.) I got three fruits (mango, kiwi, and strawberries) but I also got granola which is like 70 cents extra (the fourth topping is extra) but there’s a reason why my name is still Moore and theirs is not. I was addicted by my second trip to FreshBerry and have sworn there is some kind of drug in it that drives you back. Of course, that’s a lie, lest I start a rumor.

Since many of you have commented along the way how close we seem (not me and FreshBerry but me and my girls although FreshBerry and I are moving forward in our relationship), I just want you to know, we don’t laugh together and get such a big kick out of each other because we don’t have problems. We each have a full plate of them. We just laugh because we might as well. Life’s just funnier that way. We also get a lot of satisfaction out of making fun of each other. If we cross the line, though, we apologize profusely and feel like dogs and tell the other one to say something mean to us, too. If they won’t, we’ll say something mature like, “Well, hit me then!”

Melissa’s been in town this week for us to start a very special project together. I would be so blessed and thankful for you to stop a split second and pray for us. We have just begun research for the next in-depth Bible study, God willing, and it will totally preoccupy us for at least the next full year. (She actually started on it months ago but I’ve just turned my attentions to it in the last seven days.) This will be a seven week, eight session study on the life and Book of James.

This time, instead of contributing through research alone (which she does masterfully and like no one else I know), I’ve asked Melissa to write brief segments from her own perspective and research each week throughout the workbook. I will write the main body of the lessons like usual and, unless the plan changes, she will have a box in each lesson where she brings her own voice. I will do the lecture sessions as usual, too, but she will also probably be in some of the cutaways or what we call “outros.” All of this is what we believe we’re sensing from God right now but it will no doubt develop as we go. We’re super excited and yes, nervous as always, but we feel like we’ve got a window of opportunity for a little co-writing and we’re going to jump through it. Amanda has already been right in there with us helping us shape the concept but, as you know, her hands are full with small children right now and this is not her season for this kind of titanic undertaking at work. She is my favorite editor and I so hope she’ll be able to look over some of the lessons along the way as her schedule permits. In one way or another, our lives are always intertwined. Amanda may not co-write but goodness knows she has provided a preschooler and toddler who, in turn,ย  provide no few illustrations.

Anyway, thank you for caring about what’s brewing around here at Living Proof. I am never more stressed or overworked than when I’m in the middle of writing an in-depth Bible study but I am also never more fulfilled. It is the work I love best because it immerses my poor brain in the wealth of Scripture day after day after day. Hour after hour after hour. Some people’s brains simply need washing. God is gracious beyond comprehension to allow somebody with my kind of past to serve people like you.

Which reminds me, yesterday Hawk and I taped my SSBS greeting for you. (It will be your post on Tuesday as we launch our third gathering.) I thought you might get a kick out of how professional we are around here. This is our camera set up.

No one can say we don’t keep up with all the latest technological advancements here at Living Proof. No sir. (In case you can’t see that tiny camera at the top of the tripod, that statement’s a bit of a joke.) We tape in one of the offices right on the second floor where a bunch of the staff works and Hawk and I love to shout, “Quiet on the set!” (By the way, they’re usually not.)

I hope you guys have a great weekend. Work a whole lot of Jesus into it and maybe a little frozen yogurt…and find somebody in your neck of the woods to laugh with. It does a body good.

I love you. That’s the honest truth. You are the FreshBerry Tart of the Blog World. I just keep coming back.

WOW! An In-depth study on James. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. That is going to be amazing because I know that God is giving you all of the information. I am also glad you MamaBeth and your daughter Melissa is helping you. For you, doing this with your daughter has to be a thrill. My daughter is only 9 but I can’t wait until we can come see you on Tuesday nights and take a bible study together. That is my prayer, that my daughter will enjoy bible studies at much as I do.

God bless you and your girls. I pray God keeps you all healthy, happy, calm and peaceful this year while you work on this study.

Hi Beth, Thanks for being real…sometimes I worry that my daughters and I don’t see eye to eye (that’s a nice way of saying it) on things and aren’t as close as other mothers and daughters seem to be. I love them to death, but they don’t always do what I tell them (the fact that they’re 24 and 25 is so beside the point). You reminded me that we do laugh and find joy in family memories and the two cutest grandbabies ever born. We love to have lunch together and we laugh and cry together. Having every hobby and opinion the same is not a prerequisite for closeness…love is. Have a wonderful time with your beautiful girls. Blessings girlfriend, Patty from SoCal

Beth, I am giddy thinking about a study in James! Wow, it is exciting. I am already praying and won’t let up.

We have Orange Leaf here in Lawton, OK. It is yummy and we are pleased to have it. It has only been here about a year.

You gals keep up the good work. Those of us who reap the benefits are so thankful. God is good indeed!

That’s exciting about the study on James and also Melissa’s part in it! I always enjoy reading her blogs, she is such a deep thinker.
I had been behind with the Ruth study from vacation but it is so good I have caught right back up! What a story, I am reading it with new eyes.

Well. Just so you feel cooler, I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about; Fresh Berry or Pink Berry!

I did stop and pray for your upcoming undertaking with Melissa. (Funny, last year for our SSMT I first had a thought to memorize the whole book of James. I got halfway through chapter one and as my personality would have it, wanted to see what the rest of The Book had for me.)

So honored and full, that you and your daughters take time to let us get to know you and the little things in life that makes us all laugh, with you or at you, ha!

    Happy weekend to all!

This whole post just brought me so much joy – from your FreshBerry explaination (I’ve never heard of it nor Pinkberry) to your relationship with your girls to the great news of the newest endeavor!!

We will be praying for this good work that the Lord has begun that He may bring it to perfection!

We love you so! Sister Lynn (and your other sisters!)

I’ve never been to FreshBerry but a trip (or a few trips) to Swirll (another Pink Berry take off) is an absolute essential every time I visit my sister in Houston!! It’s a good thing it’s a 1500 mile trip for me because I’m sure I’d be there every week if I lived in Houston!!
My favorite flavors are their original, mango and pomegranate – with fresh fruit on top of course.
My sister has lived in a few cities over the past 15 years and the priority with every move is find a church, find a hair dresser, find the best ice cream places in town!!! Gotta know your priorities!

Thanks so much for sharing the upcoming plans for BS…. We anxiously await, James. I was so greatful for your sharing about THE PERFECT RELATIONSHIP WITH AMANDA AND MELISSA… ok, so WHAT IS THE PERFECT RELATIONSHIP? You help us all feel somehow NORMAL! I so can identify with others percieved ideas of a chaplain’s family…. We all need to understand how God has made us HIS NORMAL…. not someone else’s judgement…. THAT WILL HELP OUR INSECURITY FOR SURE!

Mmmm that frozen yogurt looks good! We don’t have anything like that around here.

I am so excited to hear about the James study. I just love your in depth studies on a specific book. I will be praying for you as you dive into this big project!

    Have a great weekend!

How exciting! I’ll be another to pray for each of you. Come, Holy Spirit!
I got such a pang in my heart when I read how at times your joking inadvertantly crosses the line and hurts one another. I found myself feeling all defensive and sad for whoever was hurt by whomever with whatever it was that was said. But we’re all better, right?! Even without hitting? …I think I need a hug. : )

Love James! And love those times spent in deep study, writing and putting together things, just totally immersed in God’s amazing Word. (I’m less sanguine in nature, so those tend to be my fave times.)

I’ve been following along with Bianca Juarez’s James summer study series (her sessions can be viewed free: http://blog.inthenameoflove.org/?p=1103). God has truly gifted that woman! And it’s awesome!

Yay! Another study to add to my last a lifetime Bible study list. I am still looking for one for my 17 year old son and his friends to study if anyone knows of one.

      • twinkle says:

Yanna, you might want to check out James MacDonald’s site…Walk In The Word. He has some affordable audio teaching series and some more expensive dvd studies your son may be interested in. He is an awesome teacher and he will speak some TRUTH in a powerful way for young men on fire for the Lord. I’ve just ordered “Come Home: A Call Back To Faith.” It speaks to something burning in my heart right now…wanderer’s returning home to God. There are so many great choices on his site and so many topics. Listen to some of his samples.
Wow! 17 years old and on fire for Jesus! I’m loving that.

    CJ says:

I wondered if you were doing a study on the “women of the bible” (I think this was the title of the book Amanda posted in her picture for the Israel trip). Funny, I bet we will hear some of this James material on James and Betty Robison’s “Wednesdays with Beth”. I have noticed Beth teaches lessons from whatever she is studying, whether big or small.

James ought to be interesting….AND with Melissa’s additions….I look forward to it.

Can’t wait for the study on the book of James (one of my favorite books :-))! So convicting, between taming the tongue and becoming mist, I’m sure you both have your hands full (will be praying).

By the way, love the camera set-up! I think it just shows that God can use whatever He has given us for his purpose & glory! It doesn’t have to be all fancy and high tech.

My prayers are with you and Melissa, Beth.
I have no idea what a FreshBerry is but it sounds yummy.
Last weekend I attended a local fundraiser for our children’s Diabetes support group. We had a guest speaker that told us about approaching Diabetes with humor. She is a cartoonist.Diabetes is a very serious condition and not funny to have. However, humor can alleviate the stress of it. Anyway, I think it is kind of interesting that here on your blog you talk about (indirectly) how Amanda, Melissa and you use humor in your lives to diffuse what is going on in your lives.
Proverbs 15:13 is true. A merry heart is like medicine.
I can not wait to see what you all are brewing together.
Have a blessed Saturday off and keep laughing!

    Dear Beth, Amanda and Melissa,

Yes, I did and will pray over your upcoming lessons on James. I pray that your words will once again reveal and refresh us with God’d full intention of this wonderful book.

It just so happens that last night my husband, our 17 year old daughter and I went for frozen yogurt and toppings at a place called Menchies in Duluth, GA. Melissa, if you are ever on Medloch Bridge (intersecting with States Bridge (across from Regal Cinemas, it is a wonderful new frozen yogurt shop with multiple flavors and toppings. Also, Frozen Le-Hee is right next door to the Cinemas … a favorite, too. I had red velvet frozen yogurt (truly southern fare) with strawberries and blackberries. Delicious! My daughter had vanilla with all sorts of toppings including cookie crumbs, candy bar pieces, fruit, etc. You pay by the ounce. Perhaps that is how FreshBerry is, too.

One of my favorite small group Bible studies at Northpoint was on James. I loved Max Lucado’s James study, too. Can’t wait to study yours! May God bless you as His Holy Spirit guides your heart and words.

    Love you lots,

I am so excited about James! Yippee! And I so appreciate your comment about Amanda’s hands being full with her kids. I have 4 (ages 12,11,10 and 7) and often kick myself for not having a “ministry” or some calling. I am coming to terms with the fact that for this season, THEY are my calling.

  23. 73

A year is a long time to wait for a new Beth study! And on James at that! I guess it will just give us lots of time to pray for you guys as you work on it.

Your week with your girls sounds marvelous! I’m excited to say that my daughter and son-in-law are coming home in 2 weeks. They will only get to stay 4 days but I haven’t seen my daughter in a year because she has been overseas in the Air Force…and I haven’t met my son-in-law yet…and they are expecting my first grandbaby in October so I’ll get to see my girl pregnant! I am so excited for that sweet reunion that I am counting the days!

Okay, off to work on Ruth so I’ll be ready for Tuesday….happy Saturday ya’ll!

PS – had to tell you i was blessed abundantly by Patriarchs study this morning – and Leah… blessed Leah who was so unloved in her early marriage, struggled to find fulfillment in children and love of her man, but in Judah, gave it up to God in Praise! And in the end, God blesses the “Leah” in our lives when we’re looking for Rachael. Rachael was the mother of Joseph whom God used to bless and preserve a nation and also his family. But Leah, seemingly unloved, bore Judah, through whom God blessed all of humanity and used to fulfill His promises to ALL people! And she also bore Levi – lineage of the priests who bring the people to God.
Glory be to our Lord who uses the “low and despised things of the earth to shame the wise so that no flesh may boast in the presence of God” 1 Cor 1:28-31

    Ms Beth,

So glad you have both girls with you and you are all enjoying each other’s company. My mom loves it too when she has both of her gils with her.

I have never been to Freshberry. I have a feeling that I will likely become an addict if I do because I really enjoy frozen yogurt and I LOVE fruit. (Had a huge mango for breakfast this morning. I usually combine it with yogurt and almonds.)

So excited about the study on the book of James! Even more excited that Melissa will be contributing to it each week. God has really gifted her with a love and knowledge of His word which will be (and already is) a huge blessing to the body of Christ. From our brief conversation in Israel I could see how excited she gets when she talks about the Word. I will definitely be praying about this project. Love you all “berry” much.

      Eposi,
Disclaimer: this has absolutely nothing to do with tarted frozen yogurt!

I just refreshed myself with SSBS 2nd gathering and saw your other most gracious reply. Even when we try to kiss off insecurity, it still creeps back in when baring ourselves here. So thank you : ).FF’s!

I do believe our entagled prayers will be heard (yours towards us and mine towards you)… and you are so thoughful as to include me. As much as I want not to have to admit it, I have been working through my own grief that I try to keep under wraps as I try to stay strong for her. Oh that I could take on her pain as well. Surely the Lord’s love for us is exactly that… multiplied infinitely! As I feed her the word, I myself feed on it, too. I know God is using multiple sources to speak to us both.

One thing I realized as I was corresponding to you, is that one way I may be attempting to sow in my weeping is through this blog. She can only digest so much at a time from “me”. Yet, I have an oozing over of wanting to share the hope from within. Just maybe, and I mean maybe, that is part of what is going on. No pretenses here…honestly wanting to grow, learn and understand.Just processing.

Sorry, think I just joined your small group for a moment : )

I am continuing to ask the Lord to lead you on His perfect path towards that which will fulfill His purpose for you and bring Him much glory…and if that be in the form of a Boaz, then do so with haste!

      xoxo, rene

Oh that looks so good. The best I have is the 100 calories minis in the fridge…..but I usually don’t eat just one. Oh, James!!! So glad this is gonna take you a while, I’m lining up my next bible studies. Can’t wait to do Priscilla’s Jonah this fall. I’d love to do a neighborhood, after hours coffee club and go thru Ruth again with a group. I’m so loving “Ruth”.
Today was a celebration for me. After a two year “hiatus” I finally got back on my horse. She has been with a trainer for a “tune-up”. I only rode about 20 minutes, but how sweet is was. Can hardly wait to bring her home now. I have really prayed about having our horses, expense and all. Maybe this is a “desire of my heart” that the Lord will allow, He knows I sure have been delighting myself in Him. I find myself in the word and “with Him” continually. My IPod is my favorite gadget and I must say, Beth….your pastor is awesome!!! I am adding him to my list of “bests” for podcasts!
I love my Siestas and thank you Jesus for such a time as this!!!

As for me, I am guilty with a BIG mouthful of vanilla, espresso and coconut yogurt with added goodies ~ peanut butter cup in the bottom, then some m&m’s, with an added touch of hot fudge and berries on top. No bathing suit this weekend. Laughing!!!

Give Melissa and Amanda a big ((((( HUG))))) from me and then have them give you a double one from me! (((( HUG HUG )))))!!

    Now go write the thang!!! In 5 4 3 2 1 = ACTION!!!!!

Sunshine blessings from Cali Kim !
67 degrees with sunny skies and ocean smells

    Love all my Siestas!

      Kimmers!!!

I am sitting here reading some blog entries and came across yours. Girlfriend, you bless me beyond words!!! I am soooo thankful God knew we would be a good team and then saw fit to arrange our meeting via a blog!! Only He could orchestrate such a Divine meeting.
Thank you for all of your prayers for my family and me, for your words of encouragement, for wise words from one who knows how to raise teenage boys, (if Rob turns out to be half the man that Michael and David are, I will be thrilled!) for love, laughter, and the pursuit of the perfect latte!! But more importantly, thank you for loving Jesus with all abandon and then be willing to demonstrate that love for your Siestas! We all love you and get such a kick out of you!!! You are a hoot!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
SBFF, you are the toppings on my frozen yogurt, only sweeter!!!
      I Love you, Lil Kim!!

    Beth,
Hope you are enjoying your Saturday off!Sorry someone has to be around to ‘moderate’ these things!!

Gotta say I understand the utter joy whenever I can have my two ‘big’ girls (23 & 21) with me…yes, my best friends…the 12 yr old is bringing up the rear. And thank goodness you said it isn’t always wonderful…I love my girls like no one’s business, but I’ll swanee, one minute we are having a side splitting laughter and the very next I’m blowing a darn referee whistle. Passionate people we all are!!

Going on a limb here, but honestly, you and yours could be doing a study on any part of God’s word and I think we’d all still be hoot’n and holler’n!! So, Book of James, count me in!

As far as the berry stuff goes, well, I just have to say you people who love your fruit for dessert, I love you…but for the life of me if it isn’t chocolate, it just isn’t a dessert or a frozen treat! Now, slather some dark chocolate shavings on there and we’re in business!!

    xoxo, rene : )

Love the referee whistle. So true here too. Why don’t we just dip the whistle in chocolate. Several problems solved.

The enthusiasm on James is starting to rub off on me. Actually that book has always scared me. He doesn’t exactly mince words. If I had a chocolate whistle to suck on, I bet I’d feel better.

Got the T.P. cleaned up? Bless your heart. What a mess. See, you’d feel better with a chocolate whistle too, wouldn’t you?

      Love,
      Kath

        Dearest Kath,
I elect you “creative problem solver”…great idea!! Sean (18 yr old T.P. son)likes the way you think, too! Chocolate whistles otta be handed out at births instead of cigars!!
… and gosh, that T.P.stuff is mutiplying!! Every time we go outside and drive back up there’s MORE bits and pieces all over the yard!! He says tonight is “mission retaliation” for the guys. Those cute God lov’n smart kids!!
Haha, I thought you had messed up your saying about James not mincing words. I thought James didn’t MIX words, but my husband said (*sigh* this blog thing has become a family affair) no, it IS mince. Figures since I always say, “What am I, minced meat?”…oh well….only proves I have MUCH to learn from James and my darling seista friends.
BTW, gonna email you about that card from B & N…just got back from there and they don’t have it : (
Yes, I think a chocolate whistle will be what’s needed when both girls will be home together in a few weeks!
        rene : )

Yay! I’ll look forward to your email and that Dorothy card is as good as in the mail. I was thinking that the Kansas post office may boycott it, but what they don’t know, won’t hurt ’em.
And please feel free to correct my vocabulary skills. During Bible study, one of my dearest friends who has a masters in English lit, always sits near the back. Whenever I fear I may have just made up a word while teaching, I glance back at her a receive either a smiling nod or a giggling shack of the head. I’d say I average about 50/50.
Do you really call Sean T.P. son? Tell him Aldi’s usually has a good price on two ply ๐Ÿ™‚
          Love you,
          Kath

I cannot wait for James!!! How wonderful that one will be. I’ll be praying for the whole family as ya’ll embark on this journey together- how great is that!!! I spent a wonderful night last night with our Scrapbook Ladies at our church- we are a crazy group that seems to eat and talk more than we scrapbook. Then today, I hosted our Prayer Shawl Group- we knitted & crocheted shawls and things for people in our church. What a wonderful way to share the love of the Lord then on a Saturday with your best girlfriends. Thanks Beth for all you do…you truly are a blessing in my life!!!
