Hello Saturday Off! (And a Little Announcement)

Hey, You Darling Things!

I’ve had the best week because Melissa’s been in town since Monday. We’ve been together with the Joneses a ton of times and having everybody together brings me so much joy. I’ve told you before that my girls make me laugh like nobody else on earth. We just sat at FreshBerry and laughed until we nearly threw up our FreshBerry tart. (Are you guys into that yet? And, yes, I already know it’s a knock-off of Pink Berry but, since we don’t have Pink Berry in Houston, uh, we’re just going to knock it off. You just can’t be cooler than you are.)

These were our choices today. Amanda got Fruity Pebbles on hers which was a throw back to her childhood and reminded me of her little sister who tends to have the taste buds of a first grader. She also got blueberries and strawberries so that, true to form, her fruit could stay in the same color palette. Melissa is our riskier one with a menu but it doesn’t always pay off. (For instance, she’ll try the club sandwich at a Chinese restaurant or pasta and marinara at some place like Chili’s.) This time she tried the Key Lime Chiffon with graham crackers because the guy at the counter said it tasted just like the pie and, even though it was good, it was not as good as my traditional fare and she mostly assisted me in scraping the bottom of my cup. (I think I also licked it.) I got three fruits (mango, kiwi, and strawberries) but I also got granola which is like 70 cents extra (the fourth topping is extra) but there’s a reason why my name is still Moore and theirs is not. I was addicted by my second trip to FreshBerry and have sworn there is some kind of drug in it that drives you back. Of course, that’s a lie, lest I start a rumor.

Since many of you have commented along the way how close we seem (not me and FreshBerry but me and my girls although FreshBerry and I are moving forward in our relationship), I just want you to know, we don’t laugh together and get such a big kick out of each other because we don’t have problems. We each have a full plate of them. We just laugh because we might as well. Life’s just funnier that way. We also get a lot of satisfaction out of making fun of each other. If we cross the line, though, we apologize profusely and feel like dogs and tell the other one to say something mean to us, too. If they won’t, we’ll say something mature like, “Well, hit me then!”

Melissa’s been in town this week for us to start a very special project together. I would be so blessed and thankful for you to stop a split second and pray for us. We have just begun research for the next in-depth Bible study, God willing, and it will totally preoccupy us for at least the next full year. (She actually started on it months ago but I’ve just turned my attentions to it in the last seven days.) This will be a seven week, eight session study on the life and Book of James.

This time, instead of contributing through research alone (which she does masterfully and like no one else I know), I’ve asked Melissa to write brief segments from her own perspective and research each week throughout the workbook. I will write the main body of the lessons like usual and, unless the plan changes, she will have a box in each lesson where she brings her own voice. I will do the lecture sessions as usual, too, but she will also probably be in some of the cutaways or what we call “outros.” All of this is what we believe we’re sensing from God right now but it will no doubt develop as we go. We’re super excited and yes, nervous as always, but we feel like we’ve got a window of opportunity for a little co-writing and we’re going to jump through it. Amanda has already been right in there with us helping us shape the concept but, as you know, her hands are full with small children right now and this is not her season for this kind of titanic undertaking at work. She is my favorite editor and I so hope she’ll be able to look over some of the lessons along the way as her schedule permits. In one way or another, our lives are always intertwined. Amanda may not co-write but goodness knows she has provided a preschooler and toddler who, in turn,ย  provide no few illustrations.

Anyway, thank you for caring about what’s brewing around here at Living Proof. I am never more stressed or overworked than when I’m in the middle of writing an in-depth Bible study but I am also never more fulfilled. It is the work I love best because it immerses my poor brain in the wealth of Scripture day after day after day. Hour after hour after hour. Some people’s brains simply need washing. God is gracious beyond comprehension to allow somebody with my kind of past to serve people like you.

Which reminds me, yesterday Hawk and I taped my SSBS greeting for you. (It will be your post on Tuesday as we launch our third gathering.) I thought you might get a kick out of how professional we are around here. This is our camera set up.

No one can say we don’t keep up with all the latest technological advancements here at Living Proof. No sir. (In case you can’t see that tiny camera at the top of the tripod, that statement’s a bit of a joke.) We tape in one of the offices right on the second floor where a bunch of the staff works and Hawk and I love to shout, “Quiet on the set!” (By the way, they’re usually not.)

I hope you guys have a great weekend. Work a whole lot of Jesus into it and maybe a little frozen yogurt…and find somebody in your neck of the woods to laugh with. It does a body good.

I love you. That’s the honest truth. You are the FreshBerry Tart of the Blog World. I just keep coming back.

The berry talk has me completely jealous. We have NOTHING of the fancy in west TN. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And to say I’m thrilled about some James is an understatement. I won’t use a whole bunch of adjectives to describe my love for that book, so I’ll just keep it at I’M THRILLED!!!! Of course I’ll add this to my prayer for LPM and believe whole heartedly that God will do His beautiful thing over this next year.

So thankful for the week you have had together….i know the memories are priceless and momma’s heart is overflowing!

    Blessings!

So happy for y’all to be getting some quality time. And thanks for being real about the fact that it’s not all cherries (in life or yogurt).

MamaBeth – seriously – if you want any help with research as Melissa moves on to a bigger role, I would love to help. I have a great electronic library with my Logos Bible software and LOVE digging into the nuts and bolts of Scripture. So if you want another source of input, just let me know, it would be my priviledge.

    Enjoy your day off! ๐Ÿ™‚

Our Senior Adult VBS just finished a week long examination of James. I can’t wait to learn more about this wonderful chapter when your study is available. It is a rich chapter indeed! Blessings to you all as you undertake this work to uplift God’s Kingdom.

    Good morning sweet Beth!

I am so happy to hear of your good week with family, your day of rest, your new bible study coming up…! Such good things – we are richly blessed!

My preschooler and toddler are staying the weekend at their Grammy’s, and I have nothing more to do today than clean my poor house and visit with a friend, so I am getting ready to delve in to the word before I start the mundane.

If you can, please pray for my friend whom I am having diet cokes with in the park this afternoon… My heart has been heavy for her and I am having a hard time figuring out why, but she is a new believer with a crazy story (don’t we all have some kind of crazy?) and something is amiss. I can’t shake this feeling, so I am going to the word with it to see what, if anything, God would have me say.

    I love you dearly,
    Hilary

For crying out loud…I don’t know how my post got sent before I finished it…I am NO techy, for sure…
Anyway, my big news is: I AM GOING TO BE A FIRST TIME GRANDMA! I live in Kansas and my daughter and son-in-law live in Colorado but they let me come up and see the first sonogram! (and oddly enough we went to a frozen yogurt place and I had a polmberry–fabulous!)

My first son was born with severe birth defects and only lived 3 short years, so needless to say, I am praying like mad for a healthy grandbaby..If anyone can remember, I’d appreciate the prayers for Julie and the baby..

    Love you all..

I don’t know anything about Fresh berry or Pink berry either. But I am thrilled about the upcoming study on the book of James and will be praying for it.

Pat, Congratulations! I am will be a first time grandmother in the next few weeks. I will keep you and your family in prayer. Once there has been a condition like that in your family it just makes you a little more apprehensive. God is still in control.

While doing the Patriarch study this past Winter and Spring, the morning of my daughterinlaw’s baby shower I was studying the lesson where Jacob blessed Joseph’s sons.
I took that blessing and paraphrased it for my coming granddaughter I would love to share it with you. My granddaughter’s name will be Hannah.

      Hannah’s Blessing

      God before whom our fathers
      Abraham and Isaac walked
The God who has fed us
all our life to this day.
      The Angel who has redeemed
      us from evil.
      Bless Hannah;

Let our name be named upon her
And the name of our fathers
      Abraham and Isaac;
And let her grow into a
multitude in the midst of the earth.
      Genesis 48:15&16
The lesson that day was so special.

Thanks, Beth. Love to already be praying about the James study. I’ve also curled in my freshly painted toes b/c he’s sure to step on some of them. And rightly so.

Thanks too, for the admonition to laugh. Sometimes I actually feel a bit guilty for giggling so often. I loved the reminder this week that God gives us laughter and joy (Ps 126:2). Life’s hard enough. Smiles just seem to soften the edges.

Enjoy the girls. And no hitting! Don’t make me come over there ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a profound blessing that our merciful and gracious God has brought you to this place of working with and being in ministry with your 2 daughters. PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW!

Happy Saturday! We’re off to go camping for a week here in a bit, but was just checking in before we hit the road. I loved camping as a kid, hated it as a teen, and going to love it as a mama. Because my girls will love it. Especially since I’ve made some cute headbands so we can cover up our camping hair.

Let’s just face it. We’ll have more fun in the woods if we look cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

Will be praying for you and Melissa as you work together. So excited to hear about the new project. I’m with you–I love being in the midst of writing and teaching because I need it so much myself. If anyone else gets anything out of it? Well, that’s just gravy!

Better go find my sleeping bag. And throw in a few more books just to be on the safe side. My husband’s going to die when he sees how many I’ve already packed, but a girl can’t have too many books in the woods, can she?!

    So much love,

Ah sisterly love:) I remember my sister and I would have literal physical fights; my grandpa would always say, “Stop loving each other so much” I guess that was his take on, ” love hurts”…I have a scar from the nintendo plug she threw at my head and bled through my hair, and she has the scar above her eyebrow where I hit her with a tennis raquet…yep.

James…oh that’s so great:) ” Be quick to listen and slow to speak.”(James 1:19) was one of my first few bible verses I ever learned, and BEFORE I became a Christian:)

Hope you all have a great day!

What a fun week! My man and I just enjoyed 2 “quiet” days while 3 of the 4 children in our house were at grandma’s house =) And our little 5 mo old got to have us to himself. It’s always fun to change the routine a bit!

I love the book of James and am really looking forward to all that’s going into from each of you! God bless the process.

And I have just seen these yogurt places here in So. Cal. They didn’t have them in Wichita!! It’s a wonderful place to go ~ was your’s self serve? We do it ourselves and then weigh and pay per ounce. Dangerous for my pocketbook, I tell you! But the kids love it and get all kinds of candy on top. =)

Anyway, about to go grocery shopping and had to comment before life takes off again.
    much love,

One of my long time bible study partners and I had lunch the other day and we were talking about what your next study might be (other than the David re-write which we are also excited about) and if you would do a location trip along with it. We both said we’d love it if you did. I had the honor of being on the Greece/Turkey trip in 2002. It was really a turning point trip for me in my walk with Christ. Thank you for allowing us that opportunity. We love you and will pray for you and Melissa as you bring James to life like no one else can.

I LOVE the book of James because it tells me how I should behave as a born again believer. I’m so stinkin’ rotten that I need lots of reminders!! I’m also super stoked you are writing a new Bible study. I have done them all except the Psalms. That is next for me because the Lord has been using Psalm 34 to speak to me and bless me. O that the Bride of Christ would rise up and take her rightful place and walk/talk accordingly. This flesh of mine just gets in the way!!! Ugh!!

Sure would love to see you at First Methodist Houston Sunday evening for an old fashioned hymn sing with DR GERALD RAY and 3 baby grand pianos. It will start at 6 pm. The church is located at BW8 and Westheimer. I could save you a few special seats!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Prayer said. Asking for God to do a mighty work that will last even beyond the life spans of the first generation of ‘students’ of the new study.

As for yogurt…Oh my…when my oldest was the ‘only’ and we seemed to play endless soccer seasons, we often found ourselves at Baskin-Robbins between or after games. We’ve now graduated to yogurt. I love it because it seems that the only time I go is when I am with her or her baby sister, who is actually now 13, but still our baby none the less. What is wild is that we recently have had an onsluaght of yogurt places crop up in the metroplis of Wichita Falls. We went from 0 to about 5 or 6 in less than 6 months!! That is an exciting an announcement and will be praying for you all! We don’t have FreshBerry in Austin, but we have a frozen yogurt place that opened recently just down the street from us. We need to set up its own category in our budget because it’s just been the perfect summer treat! I go for the vanilla with Graham crackers and chocolate chips. A sorta s’more, if you will. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m one that doesn’t handle stress well for any length of time, so the thought of you feeling like that for a solid season, albeit very fulfilled, makes me wonder how you do it. So out of curiosity, when you write about being the most stressed and overworked when you’re writing an in-depth study, besides your time with Jesus at the start of every day, are there other practical things you do that help you get through that season?

Enjoy your time with your special girls! Love to you all!

James! I’m so excited. Been wanting to study that book for a long time. I just prayed for the three of you (actually, your husbands too, because I know they’re an integral part of the whole team as well) and goodness knows, when we women head into a project full throttle, our husbands go through the ups and downs right along with us.

I know you weren’t “trolling” for kudos here, but thank you for all the time you put into these studies. We know it is like a full time job or maybe more like birthing a child. But we thank the Lord for you, Beth, Melissa and Amanda!

My Saturday morning included being woken up by a 2 year old, 3 year old and 7 year old — plus a couple of puppies, too. Angelina, Juliana and Olivia are with me today while their single dad works. We just ate breakfast a few minutes ago and, after the two little ones got it all over them, I instructed them to hand over their clothes so I could throw them in the washing machine. This resulted in them running through my house yelling “naked babies, naked babies!” I have no idea who taught them that, but I love, love, love that they do it. There are no words for how much this single girl enjoys car seats filling up the back seat of her car, sippy cups in the sink and naked babies running out of the laundry room. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so excited about the new study. I remember last January you mentioned it at the SSMT celebration. Can’t wait, and I too will be praying through this project. I know God will use the Moore women to speak through.
I remember when our Dallas got their first frozen yogurt place way back in the 70’s. My mom thought it was diet food and would stop and get some daily on the way home from picking my sister up at school. She couldn’t figure out why she was gaining weight! She finally figured out 5 doses a week is not a good thing.
    Have a great weekend!

I am so excited to hear you are doing an in-depth study on the book of James. I am even more excited about hearing from Melissa as well. It gave me chills just reading about it. No doubt God has been preparing her for this season. It must be such an honor to have both of your girls working with you.

Words cannot express how much you and your family means to me. You have all blessed me so much. I have learned so much from you, Beth. I just love you.

Now, that is exciting news! Will definitely be praying and anxiously awaiting this Bible study. Love, love, love the book of James. The fact that he was the Lord’s half-brother who only came to believe after Christ’s death is profound to me. How he was changed by the Word to be inspired to write the Word. W-O-W!!!

Welcome, Melissa! I love the concept and the whole idea of it. Love, love, love it!

(Did I mention I love it?)

It is always such fun to have a visit with you Beth. You light up my day!!
I worked on my Ruth Bible Study this morning and want to tell you how much I’m enjoying it. I just love this beautiful story.
In September we will be doing your Revelation Study with our Women’s Bible Study at church. And now the new one to look forward to and pray for.
I have to tell you a funny little something. We were in Houston Monday. We come every six months to go to the Baylor Med. Center for appointments for my husband. This time we came from Dallas (we were there visiting the grands) and we had such an awful time getting there.
First there was a wreck on 45 and we were in a parking lot forever! Then we took a wrong turn somewhere and got hopelessly lost. We were back and forth and all around Houston. I don’t know how you do it. It is just a confusing maze!!
Anywhoo – we finally got there an hour and a half late. Just to say you have my total admiration for being able to navigate in and around Houston.
    Have a blessed weekend Beth.

Oooh, Oooh, Oooh….A new bible study in the works!! Praise God! I will keep you and all involved in my thoughts and prayers. In the words of kids on a roadtrip (are we there yet)I’m asking …is it ready yet??? how about now???
I must be at the feet of Jesus, so this is great news. I anticipate its arrival on the bookshelves with much hope that I will learn and apply something from this wonderful book of the bible to my life.
I came to learn of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ over time and I still have that letter I wrote in the opening intro video session of Beloved Didsciple. When we were asked to read that to the bible study ladies at the end of that study in the last session I had them all in tears. I didnt mean to, but they saw how I came to Christ and those tears were tears of joy for their fellow sister in Christ Jesus. Thank you for working where you feel lead by the Holy Sprirt. It changed my life. I cant wait till I hear from God again. You go Siesta Momma…you Go!!! Im right beside you!!
    Love and Prayers,
    Kathleen in NJ

I love that you share your life with us!! Just the daily is inspiring to me ๐Ÿ™‚
I have an incredible story and am told on a regular basis that I should write a book. Where to begin or how to go about it, is foreign to me.
Would you just take a peek or do you have some dear soul that would??
Love to you my friend and that you for every single study you’ve done!!!
In His service and to His glory,
    Deb
