Hi Y’all from Denver!!

OK, so I wrote you guys a catch-up post this morning from the airport/plane in Houston and pushed “publish” right before they shut the door and made us power down and the internet knocked me off without saving my material. I was so completely annoyed.

Now I am sitting in my hotel room typing as fast as I can because I get picked up in a little over an hour and I am a LONG way from ready. I still have early this morning’s hair, not to mention make up. Not to mention deodorant. I told you this morning what all I’d been doing but no time for that now. I’ll catch you up on stuff later. One of the things I did tell you, however, was how thankful I am to have some big projects behind me (like the Israel trip) so that I can now resume my normal amount of activity in Siestaville. I can’t wait for our summer Bible study to start. I hope so much you’ve acquired your workbooks and that you’re forming small groups, if not in person, on line.

May I also say that I miss our Scripture memory team like crazy and you can rest assured we will pick that back up in 2011? Meanwhile, I have my own spiral going and I hope you do, too. In fact, mine is in my purse right here in my hotel room. Let’s see if I can spit out one of my latest verses without looking. Oh, yeah…

“If I could speak all the languages of earth and angels but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy and if I understood all God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge and if I had such faith I could move mountains but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it. But if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude…”

Yep, the Love Chapter. Sometimes it all comes back to that. And, yes, I memorized it years ago and out of the KJV but, based on some feelings I was fighting about four months ago toward someone, it obviously hadn’t fully taken. Sometimes God and I work on new lessons and sometimes we just go back for a refresher on an old one. We’re back.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh, I know. I was about to tell you that I’m in Denver for Deeper Still with my friends, Kay Arthur and Priscilla Shirer. I can’t wait to hear what God has to say to all of us through them. And, we are so entirely jazzed to have Kelly Minter joining us this weekend (yes, our summer Bible study author). She is a great joy to me.

Shoot fire, I’m running out of time. I will try to write you guys on my way home Sunday. But I just have to tell you one little thing. I checked into my hotel room and there was a gift bag sitting on the bed. I thought it was a bag of snacks because our event coordinator will often leave one of those in our rooms for Deeper Still. While I was unpacking, I glanced back over at it and realized it said, “Happy Birthday” (not till next week) but I knew then that it wasn’t snacks. I pulled out the purple tissue and WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT WAS AN I-PAD?????????????? I NEARLY FLIPPED!!!! I set it down on my bed and paced back and forth in my room staring at it like it might turn into a pumpkin. I wasn’t going to get one because I just couldn’t justify it. Still can’t. It’s just grace. Plain and simple. Grace. I’m just so-the-opposite-of-ticked.

GOTTA GO!! I’ll write you Sunday.

Happy Happy Birthday Beth!! Hope its a day filled with family, fun and blessings.

Have to share my iPad blessing!! I teach at a small (25 students) Christian School for children with Learning Disabilities. I heard from my techie friends that the iPad would be an awesome tool for my kiddos. Well, I totally wanted one but I too couldn’t justify one now.

Well, my 76 yr old Dad, that has never touched a computer was eating supper with us one night and brought up that new ipod thing he’s been reading and seeing on the news. I knew he meant iPad so we started talking. I said I’d love one, elbowed a hint, hint to my husband sitting next to me cause I could really use it at school and with my son that has a severe learning disability. Figured in a year or so I may buy one.

3 days later my Dad came over with money in hand for me to buy that new iPod thing, with extra money to buy accessories etc… Cry like a baby I did. Then 10 min after he left he called me back to say he just read another article and that I needed to get that 3G thing!!!!! Bless his heart, he doesn’t even know what 3G is but he wanted us to have it. Is that Grace or what?

I now have our iPad. My son and students love, love, love it. I know you will too Beth. Have a blast learning it. Your sweet little Gr Babies will fight you for it. So many COOL aps for their age. They’ll be learning and not even know it.

Birthday Blessings to you!! Love you to pieces!! Oh, we are just starting ESTHER!!

    Beth,
Happy Happy Birthday!!! I love my ipad!!! I wasn’t going to get one although i really wanted one, but my husband, my loving, darling husband bought one for me…an app that is so addicting (like any of us need another addicting thing in our lives), and fun (lots of fun), is the free roller coaster game. You should try it!!

I shake my head at the pace you keep…it is only by God’s grace that your head doesn’t just roll off your shoulders and bounce on the hotel floor! Beth, you are just too funny. Of course, my question is “Who gave you the IPad?” Got to know. Of course God says I don’t need to know everything. But please do tell. Praying for you time in Denver. Would love to be there.

Got my spiral going. Can’t wait to do it again like last year. So did enjoy it. I’m sure I’ll still have lots of scriptures to memorize after this year.

My current scripture: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom 8:38-39 NIV

  12. 62
    Lisa of the Letter says:

Whooo! Ready to start a new spiral with you next year and WILL be at the celebration…if you have one πŸ™‚

Enjoy your IPad! Two of our Pastors each have one. They are hooked on them for preparing and preaching. One of the Pastors has some eye issues so it is great to be able to adjust the text to suit his needs. They both LOVE their IPads!! As you will too!

Praying for heavy FOG in Colorado!

    Have a blessed weekend!

Darling Beth… this is my first time checking out the blog-and I’m hooked! I’ve spent the last two hours being encouraged and uplifted by the precious stories you and your girls have shared. You don’t know this Beth-but you’ve been one of my best friends for a long time! I graduated from nursing school last year, so I didn’t have much of a social life… but usually I was doing one of your studies at the time. Your words of advice and encouragement have meant so much to me! God is so sweet how He kisses us with such precious people to look up to. I’ve been through some heartbreaking stuff the last two years… and I have thought so many times that I would just love to sit down with you and have a good cry! Jesus is so precious to us… how I love Him even more for giving me you. I thought it was fab that you got an iPad… cause I’m typing for the first time on my brand spankin new Macbook Pro. Can’t hardly contain myself! Love you Siesta!

    Hi Beth,

Loved the first night of Deeper Still here in Denver! The rain is a-beating on the windows and I am wound up from the night, but I need to get to sleep. I sat on the floor about ten rows back from the stage and I have to say that I wanted to run up there and give you a big ‘ole hug. My cousins were with me (they flew in from TX to attend with their mom, my aunt, who lives in CO) and I told them I didn’t think I would embarrass myself like that. But I couldn’t be sure. You were just so close! Anyway, thank you for coming all the way to our Rocky Mountain city. So looking forward to Priscilla and you tomorrow! Blessings.

So glad you mentioned Scripture Memory…ok so I have to tell you I was so bummed that WE weren’t doing it and I kept watching for it and watching for it…but it didn’t happen so then I thought I am going to see if some of my friends here want to do it and sure enough we have 20 women and we are so loving it…If that weren’t enough one of the women who is part of the 20 decided she would ask some of her friends to join her on a break off team and she has 30 women joining her…so even though I was bummed about the break…GOD HAD A PLAN AND IT WAS GOOD. Over 50 women who might not have known about it are doing it because of that break. It kind of reminded me of when Paul and Barnabas split because of Mark…not the part that they split but the part that God had a plan in the midst of it. Just a visual reminder to me that when God says no–it is because He has a greater YES!
This idea has been a HUGE blessing to me…and others…I am so thankful God put it on your heart a year and a half ago to share it with us! Prayerfully, I will never go another year without memorizing at least 24 scriptures and If I live to be at least 82 that will be over 1000 scriptures…GLORY TO HIS FAITHFUL NAME!

    Beth,

I live in Denver, attended last night’s DeeperStill, volunteered at the book store and cannot wait to get in my car to go back today.

My dear friend and former neighbor invited me to one of your bible studies at her church, Applewood, several years ago. Her beautiful example of what it means to be a true Christian drew me toward her and toward your teachings. I have taken several of your studies since.

Through the years I feel as if God has had a fishing pole and has been slowly reeling me in. Your ability to make the word come alive has been very instrumental in that. I chose to be baptized this past April.

Thank you for all you do to spread the word and being a part of the reason my love for the the Lord has grown and deepened. I am a far better human being for it, but far from where I want to be. Still seeking and enjoying the ride! I am looking forward to being in the presence of all of those beautiful women at the conference today.

My employers got me an iPad just a few days ago… I didn’t think I would need something like that… just seemed so extravagant, but can I tell you I already use it like crazy and it really does simplify things for me?! (I’m a personal assistant – now I can manage my life and my boss’ life on the same nifty portable device! Lifesaver!)

So excited for you to be in Denver with so many of my friends and family–as well as your own girlfriends. Aren’t friends the best?

My mom called me last night from her seat on the floor with some friends, promising to keep an eye out for some of my friends and to take really good notes. And she just called me from there this morning–I could hardly hear her over the music. And she couldn’t hear me either. But she yelled, “I just wanted to share it with you! I love you!” before she hung up.

Makes me feel like I’m there too. Almost.

    Ruth says:

Thanks so much for taking time to write us when you were in the middle of a busy morning. It’s SO good to hear from our Siesta Mama!!! I HATE when I lose something I’ve taken the time to type. The fact that you are memorizing the love verses just shows me that it is a lifelong journey of learning with God in that department. I think I was subconsciously thinking (more like wishing) at some point soon here I’d just mud-wrestle my stinkin’ flesh to the ground completely on that subject and then would perfectly love everyone after that with no work, thought, prayer or effort…although even typing that makes me laugh πŸ™‚ Thanks for your honesty and realness — and for making us feel so special. After I check my email it’s always so refreshing to get on the blog and just know when I come I’m going to leave feeling loved and pumped up! πŸ™‚ Love you so much Beth!!!

    Linda says:

Happy Birthday!!! (a little early). Wow, Wow, Wow, an Ipad. Wonderful, isn’t He, to move your friends to get you something you wouldn’t have gotten yourself. Enjoy that sweet blessing. Tell us all about it, because I’m quite sure I’ll never buy one either, but I do enjoy hearing what all they can do.

I was sitting with the college girl I mentor and she pulled out her new phone and (among other things), it can scan items by their UPC code and tell you where to buy the item cheaper!!! Can you believe that? So, we tested it out right there in the coffee shop on some jars of jelly and, sure enough, it told us three different stores that carried the same item for less. I’m glad I don’t have that because I’d probably be “shopping” on nit all day and driving to so many stores that I’d run out of time in each day. But the technology…

I’ve been praying for you ladies all week for Deeper Still. I wish I could have been there this weekend, but I am praying that all the ladies that need to hear the message will have had no obstacles in going and that the Lord speaks in and through you, the message He wants to pour forth.

Not only have I got my new spiral going, I put last years right next to it and recite those verses too because I noticed that I was beginning to forget many of them. Yikes! In ten years, I may have ten spirals sitting oon my desk….won’t that be fun?

Have a sweet time in Denver with Jesus and all the Siestas!

Thanks for making us feel so included. Early Happy Birthday! In my adult life you have hands down been the biggest promoter of Scripture memory. Thank you for believing and convicing the rest of us that we will never outgrow this action/weapon. And what a treat to relearn a previously memorized passage out of a new translation. Delicious! Mine lately?
My dear children, you belong to God and have defeated
them, because the Holy Spirit Who is in you

Years ago, I heard you say, “If I err, let me err on the side of love.” Something like that, anyway… and I have tried to adopt it as one of my philosophies of life. It does all come back to love. When I feel taken advantage of, I remember, love. When I feel angry, I melt, love again. It’s a powerful verb- that love.
