My Tutoring Session With AJ: Adding Images

Hi, Siestas! AJ, our trusty Siestaville Blogmaster, is sitting right next to me in my office at LPM and she is tutoring me on how to add images into my posts. As you might recall (if you have admirable taste), I rocked at it when we were on Blogger but I’ve stunk it up on WordPress. Hence, Heaven alone knows all you’ve missed. In order to practice my new skills, I am going to take you through a random backlog of pictures I’ve taken with my iPhone during this season of blog-blackness. Knowing in advance that these are pictures taken with a cell phone should tell you what level of quality to expect. I know. I can’t wait either so let’s get right to it!

This is a picture I took of AB when I moved into AJ’s with the kids while she moved into the hospital with CJ. In order to give Jackson a bath by himself and let him be a fish for 20 solid minutes until he wrinkles up like a prune, I had to put AB in the Pack and Play. This is her cutest “Bibby, get me out of here before this gets ugly” look.

This is Jackson being Jackson. No, it’s not a clear picture but it is clear Jackson. He is my best friend in the whole world. Never has there EVER been a Bibby who loved a boy more.

This is Trav and me. After every few LPL’s when we get to hang around with the team and all act silly, one of us holds up our iPhone in front of our own face and says, “Hurry, jump in!” We have noticed over time that if he is holding the camera, oddly, he is the main one in the picture. If I am holding the camera, of all things, I’m the main one in the picture. Such a mystery. We have a ton of these. I bet you can guess who is holding the camera on this one. No, I have not been drinking. My eyelashes were just getting heavy.

My in-laws (Meems and Big Pops, who live right next to us) recently put in a vegetable garden and the four of us (them, my man and me) are completely obsessed with it. Sometimes the four of us just sit there in folding chairs and stare at the veggies like we could watch them grow. That’s Meems. (Short for Memaw) You can see the tiniest glimpse of Big Pops in the corner. Per Travis, one might wonder if Meems was the one taking the picture. It would have required a really long rubber arm, however.

This is Big Pops showcasing our first tomato. As soon as it ripens, we four have agreed to quarter it as our firstfruit and eat it together with hilarity and thanksgiving. Now that we have a vegetable garden, we like to say, “We grow our own food.”

This is a very good friend of mine’s recent 1-year token from AA. My pitiful photography here is a crying shame because, if you could really wrap your mind around this, you’d know it was worthy of a screaming shout of praise. Yahoo, God! I love You, I love You, I love You, I LOVE YOU!

The next four comprise a series. Recently, while Hawk and I were waiting at the gate for a flight back to Houston, a small herd of people walked right in front of us and one of them dropped the equivalent of a Sonic Route 44 Dr. Pepper. It hit the floor with a boom and exploded. The mother of said spiller promptly began dabbing at the edges of the broken dam with something the size of cocktail napkins while Hawk and I looked at one another like, “Somebody do something!” All the sudden, almost like a ray of light from Heaven broke through the ceiling and shone upon it, I looked up and saw this on the wall directly in front of us.

Does that say SPILL CENTER????? Could my eyes be deceiving me??? Let’s take a closer look!

I was like Clark Kent spying a telephone booth just in the nick of time. “Hawk, look!” said I! “A Spill Center!” I leapt over to it in a single bound and, knowing not what it was, perceived that I should reach into the bottom of the cylinder and pull. To my great surprise, this was no super absorbent giant towelette! It was the greater blessing! BEHOLD!!

I set it down right over said spill and some might say I saved the day. I felt empowered! Like any minute official airport personnel were going to wheel up on a golf car, saying “Scuse cart!” through the herd and deputize me. I was red-faced with humility.

While I waited, I felt a demonstration was in order. Here is what could happen to a person if caution is not quickly heeded. Or if Clark Kent can’t find a phone booth.

Whew. Even recounting it to you is thrilling. My heart rate is elevated.

Thank you, AJ!! If not for your excellent tutorial, all of Siestaville would have missed this profoundly important visual experience.

Lastly, with further thanks to AJ, I now have a picture with my blogger name when I comment. When it came Gravatar-time in our tutorial session, my brain was already at maximum absorption so I made AJ do it for me while I iced my forehead. She felt, then, that it was only fair that she get to choose the picture. You’ll understand when you see it. It goes to prove what I’ve long since believed. Every kid wants her parents to love each other.  They can survive without it – many of us are proof of that. But, they want it still.

I love you guys!

Oh, those were fun. I wonder if Amanda can get Even Smarter and videotape a Teaching Session for all the rest of us in Siestaville who are just feeling smug that we know how to “leave a reply,” let alone add our pics to our online names….

I’m just sure Amanda has a teaching gift – a WordPress Teaching Gift. I know you have a Word teaching gift – maybe hers is a WordPress gift – (along with a Word gift…)

And may I say you pretty much look exactly like the figure in the “Help, I’ve Fallen” doo-dad (what ARE those called?) — except of course you have cuter hair (well, hair period) and a much better smile.

Yay for your AA friend! And yay for the Veggies!! Someone recently gave me tomatoes that I’m so hopeful I won’t kill. Every time I walk by them I shoot up a prayer: “Lord, help me not kill them this year” – then felt like I heard, “Watering helps.” I’m not saying it was the Lord. It was probably just my own Self – but it felt like an epiphany – what else could stand some watering in my life – besides the barely-hanging-on tomatoes?!

    Thanks for sharing!

The spill center was awesomeness at its best. I loved the visual of what could happen if you didn’t follow the caution sign. I can just see myself at the airport and seeing Mama Siesta all on the ground (even pretending to be down)!! Oh, it would’ve been too funny (and embarrassing for me) when I rushed over! I’m secure about that…

Oh Siestas I just love you so! Yes, my spirals have been worn out, cried over, etc …life and death. IF you were to look through those verses, you would see my journey quite plainly. Wednesday marked 18 months for me and each one of those days I can count because of the amazing grace of God. I praise Him that His mercies are new every morning…boy have I ever needed that promise!

        • Good Job! I used to go to AA with my grandparents when I was a teenager. My uncle was in Vietnam and well he has his own story to tell. But praise God he hasn’t fallen off the wagon in years 16 years. He got married when he was 46(first time, too)! Has a wonderful wife and step children that he helped raise.

Thanks for sharing your testimony. I will be praying for you.

HAHAHA MamaBeth, you are soooo funny!!
    Thank you for sharing.

I too identify with the 1 year token and all the work it takes to fight your way out of deep pits. Not many years ago, I was awash in alcohol & drugs, constant thoughts of suicide, and didn’t know God.

Two days from now I will graduate with a MATS from Northeastern Seminary. This whole transformation can be called nothing short of a MIRACLE OF GOD.

God is still working in me, but sometimes you have to stop and say “Look how far we’ve come, Lord!” 😀

Mama, now that you are a hero, you need a cool superhero name and a cape. 🙂

Thank you Beth for posting this! I so needed a laugh!

I have spent the last three days with my mom at the hospital as she recovered from a (thankfully) minor stroke. I have never been so rocked by something in my adult life. Last night I just laid on the floor with my face to the ground and howled and cried and screamed until I could barely breathe. Today, she seems better – her short term memory was effected and her speech patterns – and I am grateful. Still questioning, and still angry, but somehow still grateful too.

So these pictures were perfect today. You brought a wonderful smile to my face….such a blessin’!

hey girls- not relevant to the post but i wanted to praise the Lord with my siestas- a group of us girls are currently doing beth’s daniel study (just finished session 6). it is only about 10 of us, and 5 of the girls in the group didn’t know the Lord when we started (one being my sweet mother-in-law, and another being one of my very best friends). last tuesday, those of us who already know the Lord got to share our faith with the girls who didn’t – all five of them were led to the Lord! I know only God knows the hearts of men, but from the things they were saying after we all had the opportunity to pray together, I believe each of these girls has come to genuine faith. PRAISE THE LORD!!! keep being faithful girls: from our siesta mama and her beautiful girls to whoever out there happens to stop and read this post – keep being faithful – in the big stuff – and in the little – God is going to do WONDERS among you!!! We must be faithful in our trust in the Lord, that there is no one else who loves us or desires us more than he does. I am trusting that he will open the hearts of those whom I pray for and love so dearly in HIS time! I am so happy for all of you. Keep the faith! God bless you all! Lori

I mean I think maybe Psalm 121:3 could have been a lesson you were teaching in all that…(that was really the truth wasn’t it?)..but then I realized ” No, the Atlanta airport has surely seen stranger things.”

So funny! I needed the laugh today too. I love that Jesus knows just when to bring something or someone by to lighten the mood. I’ve had some bad news today. And just when I thought I would pack up the computer and head home to relieve some stress with a hot bath, I decided to check the blog. His grace is sufficient!!! Even in laughter, he knows when we need a big laugh to readjust our focus.

    Love you all!!!!!!!

Do you have any idea at all how much you bless us – bless me?! Who would think that ministry could still take place through a Spill Center episode. You could be their spokesperson now! I will watch for your picture when they send the catalogs to work. 🙂

  40. 40

Cutest picture ever! You guys are adorable.

Love your demonstration of someone sprawled on the floor 🙂 You’re crazy — and that’s one of the things I love about you! 🙂

Whew, I need one of those signs to carry around in my purse at all times!!!! My family is a spill accident waiting to happen. 🙂

I so understand the garden. Some of our sweet church people planted a garden in the field behind our pastorium last year and I claimed every last thing grown as “the food I grew” despite the fact that all I really did was watch them plant it out my kitchen window and scratch for a few taters. I hope you enjoy your tomato. 🙂

    I love this post!!!

You are so much fun! I don’t have a garden but I do have a Topsy Turvy tomato plant. Have you seen those? I was skeptical but it is doing good…it has to be in direct sunlight for at least 6 hours and the only place we could put it was in the front …I feel like I need to say “you might be a redneck if..you have a topsy turvy plant hanging from the front porch.” 😉 I will rejoice when we get our first tomato. 🙂

    Oh, perfect picture Amanda!

Are you sure you are not getting down for us_LPM sisters?
(alittle break dance in name of Jesus never hurt anyone) LOL

About Annabeth in the playpen__my twin boys made a nice, big hole in their playpen so they could crawel in and out of it when they wanted to. Just thought you might like to know.
She does have a sweet smile, maybe you don’t have to worry about it.

Oh, that Travis and you _have such beautiful teeth and a great smile. Which toothpaste do you use? Well, just kidding__don’t bite me.

Now, Jackson is another sweetie, but he looks like he is laughing mighty hard, are you sure Bibby isn’t up to something?

And the wonderful garden, well that brings back lots and lots of memories. My grandparents always had a big garden with totatoes, potatoes, okra, corn, peas, beans, and especially my favorite strawberries.
They had about 10 chickens, 2 dogs, 3 cats and 1 bird named Pete. We loved to visit grandma’s house.

Finally, you picture on AA__it is only because of Jesus I have not done some things in my life, but JESUS IS OUR ALL IN ALL!!

    sO MUch FuN Siesta Sister!!!

        Fran & Siesta Mama,
Congratulations on your 12 years of sobriety! Isn’t God just great? (or as we say in the south “Ain’t God great? I live in Alabama too.) His love & provisions never cease to amaze & humble me. I will be celebrating 5 years next week!
Beth, I’m new to blogging & was just thinking this morning before i logged on, Is it strange that I think of you as family? I was thanking God for you (again) & praying for you. Then I realized that you pray for me too(I know you do because you tell us in your books, posts, & bible studies.) I am crying, as I often do, when I feel His presence. This time of year marks the beginning of a new life for me & makes me especially thankful because I am reminded of His great work in my life. Beth, God has worked through you to help me grow in Him. Thank you for your obedience to Him.By the way, I am SO EXCITED that you are coming to Birmingham in December!!!!!!! I can’t wait!Love you all,Lisa

Lisa – so thrilled for you! I was reminded of the Esther study when you remarked, “this time of year marks the beginning…” Praise the LORD! You celebrate it and if I may be so bold to thank the LORD in your life for what HE has done. I don’t know you, but I KNOW that HE has recused you and I am so THANKFUL that HE is real and living and AWESOME!
