Back to Bible Study, Home Girls! And, How About Some Newbies?

It’s a gorgeous, cold morning in Houston, Texas and not a cloud in the sky. Let’s put last week’s severe weather fiasco behind us, Houston-area girls, and have us some Bible study tonight! (Some of you may know that we had 17 flakes of snow and it shut the city down. Exciting times at the Gulf Coast!)

We loved hearing from you northern Siestas who said that, all winter long, you basically schedule and cancel, schedule and cancel, schedule and cancel. And we think we’ve got Bible study problems!

One of my favorite things that has happened on the blog in the last week is hearing from at least 100 new commenters through last Thursday’s post. I did a shout-out to people who’d never posted and you immediately came out of the wood work, as my grandmother would say, and totally made my week! All the regulars on here loved it, too. You are a delight to us. Completely refreshing. Stay with it!

That delight got me in the spirit! Let’s have another shout-out today to a different set of newbies. How about some Houston area women who have never been with us at Tuesday night LPM Bible study heading our way this evening? It’s a completely interdenominational women’s gathering at Houston’s First Baptist Church at 7401 Katy Freeway. We start praise and worship at 6:30.

We would be jazzed out of our minds to have you! By this time in our series, we always have plenty of seats for visitors so why don’t you make the trip, brave the traffic, persevere to find a parking place, and come have Bible study with us? (This invitation is not meant to take anyone from an already existing Bible study group on Tuesday night. Stay with your own! But, it you’re not participating in another one, come get a Word with us!) Look for a LPM staff member or volunteer and tell them you are new with us and that you took today’s challenge. She’ll make you so glad you came.

Now, let’s open it up for your own shout-outs. If you have a Bible study (any day of the week) open to the public that you want to let your Siestas in your area know about, give the invitation as a comment to this post. I was so blessed that one of you wrote in a comment this week that you went to a new church last Sunday and met a Siesta and God caused you to feel welcome from the very start. Now, THAT’S what this community should be all about.

I am so honored to journey with all of you. Jesus is life, Girlfriends. Jesus is life. Let’s run after Him with every ounce of energy we have.

This has (kind of) nothing to do with this post, but I wanted to tell you that I started a "book club" with Beth's Insecurity book and we had our first meeting last night! I felt like after literally blowing through the book so fast because I couldn't put it down, that the Lord placed a tugging on my heart to get some young girls together to do it. And Holy Moly, did we ever! I mentioned it to about 10 girls, thinking maybe it would be 6-7 of us-we wound up with 15 (some of who I had no idea who they were) and people asking if they could bring friends! I facilitated and had some discussion questions prepared, but I was blown away at how involved in discussion these young women got-especially considering that some of us didn't know each other! I am so so thankful for the Lord speaking through you Beth…All Praise and Glory be to Him!

    Bethany,

I am gasping for air as I read your comment posted at 8:50 AM. Big Valley Grace Church (Love you Pastor Rick!) was where I was led OUT OF MORMONISM and into the blessed fold of Christ 7 years ago. I was saved there in his office on a beautiful May day and walked out of that office a new woman. As I walked through the parking lot, a gentle rain began. I AM NOT KIDDING. I raised my face to the sky and (in my heels and work clothes) let the rain pour on me. It was warm and the rain was soft and cleansing.

I will never, ever, ever forget that day and the rain that drenched me in the parking lot of Big Valley Grace………..oh sweet Jesus, thank you for that day. My adoption day into your incredible family. Oh how deeply I adore you.

Bethany, thank you for commenting. I am crying my eyes out and my heart is beating like crazy. Thank you for the remembrance. Amazing. And so you know, my walk with Christ went from a steady walk to a flat out race. Girl, I have on some serious running shoes……..and my life has never been, nor will ever be, the same.

I pray a mighty heap of blessings over you, sweet Bethany, and that precious church. A hospital for sinners as Pastor Rick calls it.

I love you so much. Thank you for your post.

    With all my tender heart,

Beth, oh how I wish I was in Houston!!! I'm all the way up North in Pennsylvania, though. I wish, too, that I had made the connection about you being in Houston when I was there in December for a week!

I am doing the online "Believing God" study, and I LOVE it! My husband passed away on Wednesday morning after just 8 months of marriage. He was terminally ill, and I sat his bedside in the hour before he died, and I was praying for a miracle. I didn't get my miracle then, but I still believe if had been in God's plan, it would've been done! And, when we had his memorial service on Saturday, and there were HUNDREDS of people there, I knew God had performed MANY miracles through my husband's life. Also, I haven been blogging my way through the experience, and when I saw that just yesterday over 200 people visited my blog, I also knew God was continuing many miracles through our story!

Thank you for reminding me to believe! In one of our last conversations, my husband said to me "You just have to love Jesus. You just have to keep loving him." – and through your study, and lots of prayer, I am!

Tomorrow night starts our new Wednesday night series. I'm teaching…. or rather hopefully, God is using this vessel of His. We'll be studying our forefathers in Genesis. We'd LOVE to have you there.

Title: Living our life… and learning from theirs!

Faith, Famines, Feuds, Fightings, Family….. promises, pits, prisons, palaces…… dreams, disappointments, disputes, deceit, decisions……. The Patriarchs walk out an adventurous journey, and interestingly, we often find ourselves traveling on their same road. Come pack your bags and join us. We've got a lot to learn.

I have to add to this!

This time last year I was facilitating the Esther Bible study back in Fort Collins, Colorado. We started with 13 ladies and ended with 7. We fought snow, 1 blizzard, sicknesses, and the cold – but still made it through with the help of lots of coffee and space heaters! A special special time for me!

Lo and behold – God up and moved my family to Houston this past year. What an unexpected surprise that I could now attend Beth's bible studies **live** at Houston's first! I was thrilled! Can you gals even imagine? It was such a treat that I would constantly text and email my buddies back in Colorado things like "Can you guess where I am now?" Or I would be posting pictures of the praise and worship time on facebook!

I love you, Beth – but I have to say that my favorite part of our study on Tuesdays is the praise and worship before hand! And I am not even a very good singer! There is **Nothing** like 3000 women praising God like the way we do on Tuesday nights! Follow that awesome worship time with some serious study into God's word…. I love Tuesday nights! Seriously!

A tie back to your post yesterday…

It's a place where my God seems to love me a lot.

So it's a place I love to go.

Praising God too for that Pastor Rick and Church that helped bring you to Christ. Keep up your enthusiasm and digging into His Word – from an older Saint in the Lord !!!

My man and I will have been married 26 years in August. Our daughter is 18 and headed to college in the fall, and our 16 year old son is not far behind. Soon we'll be empty nesters – we've talked about how much we know we'll miss the kids, yet we're also looking forward to finding a little out of the way spot that's just ours. Not in catus country cause we're in South Carolina, so something near the lake or along the seashore would be our ideal spot. Your post made me dreamy eyed over what just might be for my man and I in the years ahead. Marriage can be danged hard most of the time, but it sure has it's sweet moments – like growing old with the man of my youth, and holding hands in the car because a song on the radio makes you feel all romantic!
