WE MADE IT!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! To the glory of God, we made it, Siestas! If I could hug your neck, I’d purely squeeze you in two! Please picture me (in a long skirt) doing copious cheerleader jumps! I cannot wait to celebrate with as many of you as possible in January. I wish with all my heart that every single one of you were coming. This girl right here is ready to party. Even one of you missing is too many but I know that it’s hard to manage the time away and the travel expenses are also just too high for many. I’d pay every one of your ways if I could.
Okay, you darling things. I didn’t even have to think twice about the verse I wanted to memorize this last time around in 2011 because it’s about you. With your understanding, I’ll use “sister” instead of “brother.” Here goes:
Beth, Houston. For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my [sister], because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.” Philemon 7 ESV
Oh, gracious. That is the truth.
Now, since this is a very special occasion, we’re going to break protocol. This time I’m not going to limit you to your usual 1st and 15th Scripture-only entries. As we wrap up our year, you are welcome to also write a brief paragraph about what this journey with Christ has meant to you and why. No pressure. The invitation is simply there is you want to testify.
You are so incredibly dear to me, Siestas. I am at a loss for words. What a ride.
Lord Jesus, thank You, thank You, thank You, thank You! We cannot do anything to Your good pleasure that You do not first initiate and then enable. To You be all credit, honor, and praise. Please cause us to retain “the implanted word, which is able to save [our] souls.” (James 1:21) Make us wiser and make our hearts larger. You are our delight. We want so much to be Yours, too. You are our everything.
Julie, Goodyear. “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 NIV
Evangeline, Loveland CO
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Psalm 34:18
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 ESV)

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.” Luke 1:46-47, 49 NIV
This year I finally understand “The Sword of the Spirit”. The Word is our best and only defense against this broken world. It is so easy to become bitter as we fight our daily battles, are met with frustration after frustration. Memorizing the Word has made me better versus bitter. Thank you sweet Siesta’s and Beth for being my friend, encourager and uplifter. You delight me daily.

This past year was the first year that I ever memorized scripture. Prior to this year I never understood why I should or thought that it was possible to memorize scripture. I must say that this process has not only deepened my relationship with God, but it has transformed my life. Everyone I know can see a change for the better in me! I even started teaching my 2 1/2 year old daughter to memoroze scripture and she is doing it! God is so awesome. I am so excited to see what He is going to do in ths coming year as I emabark on this journey again!
Tabitha, Stanford, CA:
Jeremiah 29:11-14a
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. And I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.
I started working on my scripture memory–at least with this blog–in August. While I had been working on memorizing scripture throughout the year, this is the first time I collected the scriptures in a notepad. One day when I was praying through them, I was amazed at the things God has taught me by staying committed to memorize and dwell on a specific set of scriptures he has shown me. (And of course they had a theme that connected them one to the other.)
While I can’t join you all in Houston, I did actually get through 24 verses–Praise God.
Denise, Davis, “We have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.”-1 John 4:14-NIV
Kathy, Easley: May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV
I didn’t know if I’d be able to stick with this all year. I gave birth to my first child in March, so this year has been crazy and life-changing. Learning these scriptures has been an anchor for me through this time. LPM has ministered to me mightily over the past seven years since I became a follower of Christ. Thanks for extending this challenge to me. And thanks for your passion for our beautiful Savior.
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

It’s been a year of ups and downs for me; but always, He is faithful! The scripture cards have been a reminder of this, and of where to begin praying using His Word to express the desires of my heart for my family ~ and myself, and so many others who are suffering under the stresses, illnesses, and pressures of this world. There are also those amazing times of rejoicing! The cards have been great for those, too. It’s been amazing being part of a group while doing this. Thanks for the encouraging messages shared. You are all precious. Wish I could be there in January. May God pour out many blessings to those who can share in that time. Thank you, dear Beth!

This has been faith building and strengthening. When I face a challenge, I think,”God knew this was coming. He has provision.” This year has been a remarkable one of healing and growth. Keeping His Word close to my heart and been an ever present reminder of His presence and faithfulness.
Anne, Simpsonville, SC “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 NIV
This scripture memorization has been such a blessing to me. I have marveled at how many times God has put my scriptures before me through sermons or radio to reinforce them. Through my scriptures, I have not only used them to rely on the Lord more and love Him more but I have been able to share them with others who have needed them. Siestas’ scriptures have encouraged and strengthened me also. Thanks so much for this opportunity. I look forward to seeing many of you in Houston and know that many will be with us in spirit.

Psalm 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
I started this jurney at the suggestion of my friend and bible study leader Victoria. At the time I was about three months pregnant with my first child. On July 1st I was induced, I had my friend post my verse for me, it was Joshua 1:9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discuraged for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. I had a very difficult labor and birth but all through out that day I was reciting that verse in my head and it gave me strength. Our son Tucker was born at 7:17pm on July 1st. For the past 5 months I have used these verses to help guide my walk as a new parent. I would love to be their in January, but more than likley I will be caring for my family. This journy has met a great deal to me personally. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my (sister), because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.

Ephesians 5: 8&9 (NIV)
I have been SO blessed by this year of memorizing scripture. It is so wonderful to have a spiral full of scriptures that have personal meaning to me right at my fingertips. My best friend since the third grade invited me to join her last December in being part of this wonderful group of siestas. We have shared our verses with each other and shared our hearts all year long. It doesn’t get any better than this! Thanks, Beth, for giving us this opportunity.

forgot to post dec 1st one – but memorising Isaih 55 so here are last 2 verses Isaiah 55:12-13 NIV
You will go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Instead of the thornbush will grow the pinetree, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, which will not be destroyed!!!!
This journey has been a great blessing for whatever verse I was working on – the Lord used it to work more of Himself into my life!!! So the Word became life to me!!!! so blessed and thankful!
Joni, Port Neches, Texas. Romans 8:3-4 “For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.” (NIV)
This year I memorized Psalm 139, and I have never needed it more engraved in my mind and heart than this year. My mother became ill and went home to be with the Lord Sept. 10. She and Daddy had celebrated their 60th wedding anniv. Sept. 2. During the last few months of her life, my mother chose me as the target of her frustration with her fears and anxieties and pain. She said some hurtful things to me. It was because of Psalm 139, I could forgive her. I found my acceptance in God and in His love for me so eloquently expressed in the verses I was memorizing. As God would have it, I was the one who was at Mother’s bedside, holding her hand, praying for her in her last minutes on earth. I am forever grateful to God for enabling me to do the hardest thing I have ever done in my life–watch her take her last breath–and for keeping me in His Word so that I could be armed against the devil’s schemes during my mother’s illness.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NIV

Participating in this scripture memorization has been amazing especially since I have been participating with my sister and sister-in-law. It has awesome to connect with the spiritually at least twice a month. Not only have I been held accountable for memorization, but they have been such an encouragement to my walk with the Lord.
Can’t wait to see you in Houston!
One of those LISTENING was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a WORSHIPER of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord.” She said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us. Matthew 5:6 (NIV)
This has been a journey for me this year. I’ve been on a rollercoaster of emotion, security, and faith, and this challenge to memorize the Word has kept me tethered to God. I haven’t done perfectly at it, I’ve had to “catch up” on a verse or two. But I’ve stuck with it. And I am so incredibly glad that I did. It has blessed me, it has strengthened me when nothing else could, and it has given me hope when I thought there was none. I already have my spiral ready to go for 2012 on my own, and I’m going to be giving my daughter (age 7) one for the new year as well!
Thank you Beth, LPM team and Siestas for making this such an amazing group! I can’t wait to see as many as possible at the celebration!

For God So Loved the World
16″For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
That seems to bring it full circle for me. I am in awe at how each scripture has helped me so much. I should not be surprised but I still am. This year has brought some good and bad. God has never failed me through any of it.I wanted to share one wow moment to me. I was at the eye doctor’s office and waiting for those drops to work and I had my scripture cards with me and I was using the time to study and pray over them. The nurse comes and puts me in the exam chair for the doctor. He tells me some very bad news which is that I have glaucoma. I was devastated. I could not say a word. (I promise that never happens much) The doctors leaves so it is now my time to get out of that chair and leave to. As I am getting up I have in my hand my scripture cards. All God’s words started filling my head and heart. God is soooooooo good. Hope we all do this again next year.

And oh what a glorious race it is! Sometimes you’re cruising and sometimes the dogs attack you and then other times a root jumps up to trip you. Nothing keeps my eyes on Jesus like studying His Word and allowing Him to write it on my heart. Praise Him!
