2011 Siesta Scripture Memory Team: Verse 24!

[tminus t=”20-01-2012 19:00:00″ style=”carbonite”/] **Siesta Celebration is January 20-21, 2012**

WE MADE IT!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! To the glory of God, we made it, Siestas! If I could hug your neck, I’d purely squeeze you in two! Please picture me (in a long skirt) doing copious cheerleader jumps! I cannot wait to celebrate with as many of you as possible in January. I wish with all my heart that every single one of you were coming. This girl right here is ready to party. Even one of you missing is too many but I know that it’s hard to manage the time away and the travel expenses are also just too high for many. I’d pay every one of your ways if I could.

Okay, you darling things. I didn’t even have to think twice about the verse I wanted to memorize this last time around in 2011 because it’s about you. With your understanding, I’ll use “sister” instead of “brother.” Here goes:

Beth, Houston. For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my [sister], because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.” Philemon 7 ESV

Oh, gracious. That is the truth.

Now, since this is a very special occasion, we’re going to break protocol. This time I’m not going to limit you to your usual 1st and 15th Scripture-only entries. As we wrap up our year, you are welcome to also write a brief paragraph about what this journey with Christ has meant to you and why.  No pressure. The invitation is simply there is you want to testify.

You are so incredibly dear to me, Siestas. I am at a loss for words. What a ride.

Lord Jesus, thank You, thank You, thank You, thank You! We cannot do anything to Your good pleasure that You do not first initiate and then enable. To You be all credit, honor, and praise. Please cause us to retain “the implanted word, which is able to save [our] souls.” (James 1:21) Make us wiser and make our hearts larger. You are our delight. We want so much to be Yours, too. You are our everything.

I am so grateful to have had this year of bi-monthly memory challenge. It has reminded me so well of the opportunity to continually be in the word and what it means for my life. Thank you Beth for loving us all as he loves us and for helping me know him well through his word. I am a blessed person.

Susan – Houston – Psalm 89:14,15 – Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You. How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance.

I have learned many things during the last two years of scripture memory. First, I’m not too old! I was just being lazy. Second, accountability helps a lot. But best of all is the way God has led me to verses that I’ve been able to pass on to others just when they needed it. I love being a vessel!

from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
    will accomplish this.
    Isaiah 9:7 (NIV 1984)

Although I have not fully memorized every verse I have posted, I have memorized more Scripture in one year than ever before!

One passage was Philippians 4:6-7. As I was waiting to go into surgery for my gallbladder to be removed in September, I was going through my verses. When I came to that one, it hit me to DO IT, to not be anxious about my surgery, to pray with thanksgiving and to present my requests to God. Guess what! After I did my part (verse 6), God fulfilled His promise (verse 7). Instantly there was a peace in my mind and soul that surpassed understanding. No explanation could be given for that but that God gave me that peace.

It’s not only important to get these verses in our heads, but to also implement them in our lives. I’m “preaching” to myself here! 🙂

    Heather says:

“Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.” Deuteronomy 13:4 (I LOVE this verse so much!!! The cling to Him part is my favorite!!!)

I have absolutely loved doing the Siesta Scripture Memorization this year. I tried it 2 years ago but didn’t stick with it! I am so happy that this year I did!!! Also, I am going to the celebration so knowing that I have to tell another person my verses has made me not just meditate on the verses but REALLY memorize them, like I’m studying for a test. This has been such a gift to me because I have realized the difference between giving my ALL to Scripture memory and just making an attempt at it. I have my verses going through my head all day long and it changes my actions, which is such a good thing, especially since most of my verses are on words!!! I am definitely going to continue memorizing verses…it has made to much of a difference not to. I have really seen why the word of God is a weapon in our spiritual warfare. THANK YOU for making this such a fun thing!

    Anita, Purcellville, VA

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”

    Romans 12:17-19 NIV

    Heather Smith says:

Heather, Lewiston: “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Phil. 3:12, NIV

Siestas, I have loved the accountability of the memorization this year! It has been amazing time and time again, too, how the verses I memorized have been NEEDED in my life and the lives of others as I have journeyed along. Thank you Holy Spirit!!

Thank you, Beth, for providing this forum to do this. What a great community. I wish so much I could come to the celebration, but prayerfully and financially I need to decline. I am at total peace with that! (One idea though: Could you live stream even a touch of it for those of us who can’t make it…. Just an idea… NO pressure…).

What a great year! We are truly richer at the end of 2011 because of this memorization!

    Heather from Lewiston, ID 🙂

PS Beth- Our new church building dedication is TONIGHT! GOD DID IT! Thank you for praying for me and my husband last year. (I don’t expect you to even remember me or that you prayed, but I wanted you to know! 🙂 God has been so faithful and has even more great things in store for Lewiston, Idaho!!! To HIM be the praise!

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”
    -1 Peter 4:8-9 (NIV84)

Dear Beth and Everyone at LPM,
What a joy and priviledge it has been to sojourn with you through SSMT over this year, 2011. When I started this year, I was worn out and weary. I needed this so badly, and God knew it. I participated 2 years ago, but didn’t finish. Sad. But this year, here we are at verse 24 and I so thankfully have finished strong and recorded ALL 24 verses and MOST importantly have committed them to memory this year (well working on #24 :). God spoke to my heart at the beginning of this year, and told me to commit to deep memory familiar verses that maybe I kind of knew, but didn’t know where to find. I have followed His leading and guidance through this year and it has been life and heart changing for me. God has shown me so much and deepend my walk with Him through memorizing Scripture. So much so, that I am continuing this right on in to 2012!!! I say all of my verses as I lay my head on my pillow at night. Some nights I have fallen asleep in the middle of a verse. I can think of no better way to fall asleep than the Word of God on my lips and in my heart. Thank you for this!! I won’t be able to be there at the celebration, but I so appreciate the opportunity to share my verses with all of you this year, and to share my heart today.
I LOVE YOU ALL SO ~~ Dawn

Memorizing these verses has helped me to heal from several life changes/losses in 2010. My best friend moved away. We changed churches after 17 yrs. My Dad passed away, and my oldest daughter moved into an apt. My 20 yr old daughter and I will be coming to the celebration in Jan. We are so excited and grateful to be a part of this. Merry Christmas!

Last year I found out about the SSMT too far into the year to participate, though I did begin trying to memorize some scripture. The more I am in God’s word, the more I want to be. And as I memorize His words it strengthens my prayer life so much. I am thankful for my two best friends, who are doing this with me and keep me on track. We are attending the conference together and I can’t wait!!

I have hid your word in my heart, that I may not sin against you.
    Ps. 119:10-12

This verse sums up my whole year of memorization! I have hidden verses (ones that were timely and very applicable!) in my heart to keep me from the sin of doubt, worry, fear, and complancency. God is good and his word is TRUE and powerful! O’ Lord, let it be unto me according to your word….!

    Beth, AL says:

” . . . filled with fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God.”
    Phil. 1:10-11

I can only say that the scripture verses memorized have been my salvation. I turned to them when the enemy wants me to stress, worry; my husband who was “underemplyed” for 28 months was given a job (still not what he was making, but more than the 1/2 one); our 39 year old son, we have been praying for a wife for 20 years – will be married in March; and we have another new baby on the way. God has been most gracious and I attibute some of this from filling myself of Himself – to His glory!! He gave me the desire to do it and stick with it. God bless you Beth and all that you mean to me – SINCERELY

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
And whose hope is the LORD.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,

    And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
    Jeremiah 17:7-8 NKJV

Every time I wrote my scriptures, I also wrote a journal passage of sorts because of the difficult times. Finally I wrote-‘the tragedy continues or not really tragedy-birth-maybe my real birth as a Christian. The truth that I’m not running anything. The truth that I can’t control things. Even the prophets struggled and felt lost at times.’ It really doesn’t matter what I went through or dealt with-we all go through stuff-major and minor. I just need to keep my hope and faith in my GOD, my LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST and allow the HOLY SPIRIT to move me along the passageway, to comfort me through these times, to speak for me to my FATHER when I don’t know what to say.

I will sing to the Lord because He has been so good to me.

Have really enjoyed the fellowship and encouragement this year in my quest to memorize scripture. I have wanted to do more memorization for some time but just could not seem to keep with it. The Siestas and this formula of scripture memorization really helped me to stick with it and learn my verses this year. Thanks so much! Am ready to begin again next year. Also, I am looking forward to seeing Beth in Moline, IL next July with my sisters and a group of ladies from my church!

I can not tell you in a few words how much this has ment to me this year. 2011 has been a tough one to say the least. I will be in the Houston area from Jan. 14 – 21. My husband and I have NEVER been to Texas before so we are coming for a whole week vacation and it is my hope that we will be able to come and worship with the Moore family at Bayou City Fellowship on Jan. 15th. My adult daughter also learned verses but will not be able to attend the “party” so I know how you feel about wanting everyone to be able to come. Merry Christmas to all the staff at LPM

This has been a challenging year for our family. All of my verses this year have reflected hope, expectancy, and peace in God. Our difficulties have not gone away, but we look for God’s grace in the midst of it and are never without hope.

Though I will not be with you in Houston, I have been so blessed by participating in this scripture memory adventure. To God be the glory!

    Lu says:

    Lu, Raleigh, NC
Luke 1:46-47 “My soul glorifies the LORD and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior.”

This year as been a journey of seriously addressing spiritual warfare in my life and that of my family. (Eph.6:12) God has called me to press on, see His light, resist the devil & temptations, and to stand strong, firm, still. (Phil.3, Dan.2, James 4, James 11Cor.10, 1Cor.15, Job 37, Eph.6, 1Sam.12) I’m remembering to trust Him while being ready and prepared by His Word. (Eph.6, 1Peter) The strength, restoration, focus and guidance come from God through Christ alone. (Zec.10, Ps.23, Heb.12, Ps.119, 2Cor.4) So I will consecrate myself to see the wonders the LORD will do among all of us and glorify Him alone! Thank you for the leadership and encouragement of this ministry. I look forward to reconnecting with a friend I made at the 1st SSMT celebration as we rejoice together in a few weeks.
It is beyond what I have words to say, the connection and hope a group of women in the Word are to me. Thank you. It is a blessing. You are a blessing.

Each one of my Scriptures has a special meaning to me. God gave them to me at just the right time in my life to memorize. I love to look back through my spiral because I see how God has worked through each Scripture, how they continue to give me faith and hope for those prayers that are still not answered. I continually gain strength through them. I enjoyed looking through different versions of the Bible to figure out which version (NLT, NIV, etc.) I wanted to memorize. I can’t wait till next year. So wish I could be there in January, but I won’t be able to make it. Merry Christmas Beth and LPM!

    Pam Houston says:

Pam Houston Buena Park, CA. “See if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” Psalms 139:24
Blessings precious “Siestas”…WOW! What a ride the year 2011 has proved to be. I am so very grateful the LORD led me through wisdom to choose the whole of Psalms 139. Actually, I realized it would be all I could handle to memorize 24 verses with this 64 year old brain, so I went through all the Psalms and found “The One, and the Only!” That way I didn’t have to learn 24 different “addresses!” God had better and smarter plans than I for the journey I have been on and there couldn’t have been a more perfect course of memory than this, as I looked at the whole scope of my life. Here’s the kicker: I was at CR Step Study at my church on Tuesday night, and mentioned I needed prayer because I had a mole on my right hand that looked suspicious and had been acting up the past week. One of my sisters in Christ looked at it and she was horrified and loudly proclaimed, “Pam it looks like a melanoma!” Heaven forbid! All my sisters surrounded me and prayed prayers of faith and hope and love, and encouraged me to get to Dr. ASAP. The next morning, as soon as office opened, I called. Interesting, I told my husband, I believed the Holy Spirit was moving on my Jewish Dr. and for my husband Carl to please pray that I would be able to share with him from my heart about Yeshua Hamashiach, his Jewish Messiah, and our LORD Jesus Christ! Interestingly enough, Carl had just been in to see the Dr. the day before on hip and back issues…(old age is for the birds!) When Dr.came in he was all smiles and said “Pam, I love you so much and last night I saw your face and I prayed for you!” Oh, the bridge had been made! Praise God for the power of the Holy Spirit and prayer! With Jesus love, I put his face in my hands and said, “Doctor it is your Yeshua Hamaschiach that you see in my eyes…He is the One who called you to pray for me! He loves you so much!” My Dr. said, “Pam I believe that!” With that I laid my hands right on top of his head and spoke out Isaiah 53, that “He was wounded for our transgressions and by His stripes we are healed! I stand in the power of the shed blood of Yeshua and apply that blood to you and your life because of the mercy and love of our God!” He was fairly jumping up and down…We had a time of joyous celebration let me tell you! I showed Dr. that the offending growth was in the shape of a heart and that love finds a way! He began to open up to me and shared his own Jewish father was a victim of Hitlers Holocaust and he lost his family in the concentration camps. His Dad was only a child of 9 when he was sent to the concentration camps, and having endured such pain and loss, he became so embittered and hardened that he never allowed love in his life. Oh what a tale of sorrow, lament and woe as I listened to the emotional depravation that had been suffered in my beloved Dr.’s life as a result. The Holy Spirit was not done yet! Dr. preformed surgery on my hand and removed the offending growth and sent to lab for biopsy, but we won’t know until probably Christmas Eve Day, what’s what. Then Dr.’s male Medical Assistant came in and I had not seen him in a year, and was stunned at how much weight he had gained and how burdened he looked, I hardly recognized him! He commented, “Don’t you know who I am?” I said, “Yes, of course I do, but what is going on in your life, dear?” And he began to tell me he had not had a pay raise in 15 years, and had to work 2 jobs just to make ends meet! I told him, “Praise God, you’ve got two jobs, that in itself is a miracle in this economy! Look how God is providing for you!” His eyes were grey and so hard looking, and I said, “What else is bothering you?” He goes on to tell me what is happening in our country and how foreigners are taking over, and they hate God and our country is going to H-E-double toothpick! I said, “But, dont forget, We are not of this world! We are living in a backwards and upside down world, and the Bible tells us that it will be this way in the end days, and Jesus died for the whole world and wants them to come to Him! He is our only hope!” I saw a little spark of light, a little smoking ember came in his eyes, and I began to “fan the flame”. I asked “Can I pray for you?” He responded, “Absolutely! Please do, I need prayer!” I laid hands on him, and took authority in the name of Jesus and asked the LORD to restore and heal his broken heart and wounded spirit and please remove the burden on his shoulders that he was not to carry, it’s the LORD’S burden and He is able to deal with the sins of the world! And I speak to the emotional over-eating that has been caused because of the bitterness and frustration, and ask that he be able to shine with the light of Jesus for His name sake in a dark and dying world. We must carry the light and share the gospel with all people groups and not be hateful and judgmental of them. That is why Jesus died and gave His life for all the world!” He agreed with the prayer and then I shared with him that God had an assignment for him and God wanted him to start counting his blessings and listing things he was grateful for, and all the many benefits and blessings he has been given, His beautiful wife, and family, his jobs his provision that Christ promised all would be provided for him by His riches in glory by Christ Jesus!” And suddenly he burst out in song and began singing “Count Your many Blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings see what God has done!” My mouth fell open has the light was shining from his face, the glory of God was resting on him and the flame had been lit! His beautiful face, glowed with God’s glory and love! We sang a few choruses together and rejoiced in the LORD! And he was in tears and said, “Pam, Jesus sent you today! He sent you just for me!” Well, truth was, Jesus sent me for me, for Dr. and for him…and we will find out where this will lead me. Thanks to knowing Psalms 139, I know I am eternally safe and secure and need feel no alarm!
I love all my “Siestas” so much. Beth’s love and leadership in my life has made such an impact! Heaven will tell! I don’t know if I will be able to come to SSMT celebration or not. It depends on what I am facing in 2012.”Seach me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” Selah!

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. John 1:14MSG

I can’t even begin to find words to express what this commitment of memorizing God’s Word has meant in my life. As I look back over the past year, I am amazed to see all that He has done in my life. The verses that I memorized reflect what God was teaching me during those weeks and I am so thankful for those promises. They carried me through a year filled with blessings and trials, both.

I can not talk about this experience without sharing about my girls. Almost a year ago a friend came to a group of us asking if we would want to memorize Scripture with her. The reward being a trip to TX to visit our friend and partner in ministry, who had just moved her family plant a church…and Beth, of course:). This Scripture memory group has walked along side me and become my accountability, my support, my fun, my encouragement, my family. My sisters. Truly.

So the reward, for me, has been relationship. Relationship with my Heavenly Father, strengthened relationship with my family as I have changed and grown, and relationship with my girls. God knew I needed them. And now we will all reunite and reconnect in a couple of weeks to celebrate all that He has done in our lives over the last year. I am in awe of His hand in our lives. So excited to celebrate in a few short weeks!

For I have come to have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.

I have picked scriptures that spoke to me each time and reflected the normal ups and downs of happenings throughout the year. None comforts me more that this one as my brother had emergency surgery for a head injury received from a fall Monday night. He is stable and we are hopeful with the knowledge that God has him in his loving arms and is in control. Blessings to all in this holy season…

“The angel reassured them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior, the Messiah, has been born today in Bethlehem.'”
    Luke 2:10-11 NLT

This has been a wonderful year in the word of God. I’ve walked through a lot of tough times, but had a special feeling of comfort each time I sit down to read and memorize scripture. The most precious thing, is having my 8 year old son “check” my scripture memorization. He loves to read my cards while I recite scripture. Hopefully it’s another little way to instill the love of God’s word in him as well.
