Thanks Be To Our God

Since the first day I had in my hands Travis’s new CD When the Stars Burn Down, I have played and replayed and replayed the song Thanks Be To Our God (#13) and a good many times cried through it. I couldn’t think of anything more fitting to post in our community today than the lyrics. Sisters, I am so thankful to God for you. So thankful for your commitment to Him. For your pure-hearted worship. For your love for the Lord Jesus Christ, our one and only Savior. And I am so deeply thankful to God for His unfathomable grace, mercy, steadfast love and redemption toward my family and me and for the living, breathing power of His Word in cracked jars of clay. I am thankful for four generations that will eat at the same table together. I am grateful for the gift of laughter than is rarely left unpacked at our table. Thanks be to our God.

For the road that leads from darkness into light,
For the hope that rescues from endless night,
For the grace covers sin, at the the door where life begins,
For salvation reaching in to guide us through,
Thanks be to our God.

For the healing that no mortal can explain,
For deliverance that breaks the sinner’s chains,
For the strength to carry on, and forgiveness great and strong,
And the promise of your mercies ever new,
Thanks be to our God.

Hallelujah! Everlasting songs will rise
For all you’ve done.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Thanks be to our God!

For the emptiness that cries out to be filled,
For the promise that your word is deeper still,
For the longing and the need, to have more of you in me,
Because nothing satifies the way you do,
Thanks be to our God!

Hallelujah! Everlasting songs will rise
For all you’ve done.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Thanks be to our God!

For the mysterious beyond the veil of death,
For the peace that opens with our closing breath,
When our struggles pass away, and we finally see your face,
And a greater glory rises into you.
Thanks be to our God!

Hallelujah! Everlasting songs will rise
For all you’ve done.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Thanks be to our God!

Hallelujah! Everlasting songs will rise
For all you’ve done.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Thanks be to our God!

Thanks be to our God!

(I have to tell you, Beth, I was watching the Macy’s Parade this morning and I heard one of the interviewers say, “I’m from Texas…I think we have TEN sticks of butter….and I hope that’s enough!” I thought of you — and your “several pounds of butter” on your shopping list that was on that Twitter pic yesterday. I had to laugh!)

    Betty M says:

    Dear Beth,
It must be a gal thing but I felt alittle teary earlier today as well. I cried my eyes out, well, no, I bawled my eyes out, felt sorry for what I miss that is gone. Then I read your post and thanked God for what I do have. So often we who have lost so many loved ones and relationships through death or difficult circumstances, well, we tend to want to focus on the things we no longer have on days like today. I miss the happy chatter we three generations of gals would have in the kitchen on these holidays. Mom made the gravy while I was the potato masher. My sister was the disher-upper and the younger daughters would set the food on the long table that was set ready for us to indulge. My Mom has been at Home with her Lord for 15 yrs now. My dad is gone as well. I had a first cousin who moved back to her beloved Dakota several years ago and for several years, she was kind of a big sister type who stood in Mom’s place so things were nearly the same again. She became ill in April of 09 and just a week after her 64th birthday, she went Home to be with Jesus. She is celebrating in Heaven today as well. My sister has just been diagnosed as having an advanced stage of breast cancer so days like today are really tough for those of us who seem to have lost so much. My kids are all home with us a nice thing when the kids are not married. They have never married which is so unusual but for some reason God has not seen fit for us to be blessed with sons or daughters-in-law. I especailly miss having grand kids but it makes teaching SS again each Sunday especailly fun for me.
I was chatting with a friend yesterday who just lost his father in a freak car accident two months ago and we talked about death and I shared with him that I know it sounds really morbid to say this but I am looking forward to that final day whether it is death or Jesus second coming. This world has little to intice me, personally, I can hardly wait to see the One who redeemed me and thought enough of me to die that horrible death so I can enjoy eternity with Him and those dear ones who are there with Him now. Of all the things we have to be thankful for on a day such as this, our redemption is the most important one. It makes our future so bright even on days that cloud over with sadness for things that once were but won’t be again on this side of eternity.
Thanks for sharing and I think it is time to check the oven the aroma of nearly done food is making my stomach make strange noises! Blessings to you too as you gather to thank our dear Lord for all His incredible blessings to a world who for the most part is already worried about getting to the stores in time for Black Friday specials! Hugs from a 60 degree Heartland! Betty M in ND!!!

ing, my sister and I will never enjoy the relationship we once had. I have forgiven her for some unbelievable wrongs she

    Happy Thanksgiving Day Beth!

Several years before my husband and I went to the mission field I began teaching your studies. We didn’t have the videos at our church, so we divvied up those 10 week lessons and ended up spending 20 weeks in each study.

It was the first time I had been introduced to a workbook style study of the Word and I absolutely loved it. I still reflect on those days as my Bible study ‘Teeth-cutting” times. Those were the days God used your passion for the Word to help feed my insatiable appetite for the same.

Thank you for being a woman so in love with God that nothing else matters. You shine for Jesus, Beth. And your heart to serve women in the Word is inspiring.

So, I’m just sending a Thanksgiving Day shout out to say, “Thank you!” for being obedient to His call and for making such a difference in so many lives. For all you do, I’m eternally grateful!

    Eternally His,
    Stephanie Shott

Happy Thanksgiving Siesta Mama! I am more thankful for the blessing of the ministry that God does thru you than I can say. I hope you and your family had a wonderful time together. I love those lyrics to Travis’ song. I do not have any of his cd’s but was most suredly blown away at his beautiful voice and the sweet anointing of the Holy Spirit at the LPL conference during the worship time in May. I just may have to add one of his cd’s to my Christmas list. Blessings to you! P.S. I hope your tater’s kept piping hot! (Grin)

Dear Suzanne, I will be praying for you, especially that God will bring someone to come alongside you and help you through this heartbreaking time. You have a community of sisters here, but I know it’s not the same as having someone to talk with. Until then, may God give you a special sense of His loving presence with you. May you feel His arms holding you close.

      Suzanne –
I have just prayed for you, Siesta. Beth shared a ministry link with us in October. I don’t know if you saw it? Please visit http://www.AffairRecovery.com for totally confidential support during this horrid time. If I got the link wrong, go the the blog archives and check out the Oct 26 entry. While you have been deeply wounded you are NOT alone. There is, indeed, a place to go and Godly people ready to help you. Do not believe the lie that you are abandoned entirely. I wish I could just hug you and cry with you in person. For now know that your Siestas are praying and that ministry site KNOWS how to help you. May His WORD cover you in truth and love. Peace, strength and dignity on you, Suzanne.

After our family Thanksgiving meal, I put on my walking shoes and headed out for a hike. As my IPhone cranked out a tune, it was “Thanks Be To Our God”. How appropriate was that? In fact, the whole Travis Cotrell “The Stars Burn Down” album led me to the Throne of worship as I enjoyed my walk/worship/quiet time. Then I came home to check e-mail and here was Beth’s blog post…WOW! Thanks be to our God! How great is our God!!!

    ColoradoGirl says:

    Beth,
Thanks for posting this tonight. I’ve had the CD for a while, but never had really listened to the words to that song until now. I especially like the second stanza:

For the emptiness that cries out to be filled,
For the promise that your word is deeper still,
For the longing and the need, to have more of you in me,
Because nothing satifies the way you do,
    Thanks be to our God!

“to have more of you in me…” That was my prayer tonight as I listened to it with fresh ears. More of Him is what we seek!

Have you listened to Casting Crown’s new song, “Face Down”? That’ll grip ya! I really listened to it for the first time on a plane ride home from a conference in Orlando. Had to use the facilities to have me a good cry! Music can be the very voice of God to our hearts, can’t it?

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for sharing your heart tonight! Blessings on your weekend with family! Wish I could be with mine…

    Beth,

I list to Travis’ cds all the time in my car. This last one speaks to me so clearly and I agree with you, this last song is the best.

I wrote a reply on the email that was on my phone but I wondered if it was a no reply type email blog…

So I just want to say thank you to you, Travis and both of your staffs and your families for allowing “Our God” to use you in mighty ways amongst women. You will never know how much I enjoyed the simulcast in September. Praise God for some answers and for the study in Luke.

I would ask you to pray for me and for my family if God so leads you. I am one broken hearted mother. My children and husband so need to return to the Lord. Please understand that I love them and thank God for them and pray for them.

Thank you and God Bless you all richly. I am looking forward to the study of James in the spring.

    Melinda
