Spring Break, Anyone?

Hey, you Darling Siestas! Just a really quick post this morning. I bet a ton of you are on Spring Break this week. What are you guys doing for it?

The Houston schools are all out this week and we were supposed to have a week off from Bible study but remember that Tuesday night when I told you the whole city shut down over 17 flakes? Well, tonight’s our make-up week so that we can end on schedule. That’s fine with me though. I trust that God is going to bring us a neat group tonight even if it’s a small group.

CJ and AJ and the kids are at a high school camp right now in East Texas where he’s teaching and she’s…well…trying to entertain two small children during the day and trying to get them both to sleep at night in the same small room as their parents. The first night was pretty challenging because Annabeth is old enough to stand up in the pack-n-play and scream bloody murder for her mommy – three feet away from her – to come rescue her. And, about the time she gets quiet, Jackson is big enough to blurt out with things like, “Did Annabeff finally go to sleep?” and rouse her up again. He’s a party animal like his Bibby and LOVES all of them sleeping in the same room.

But, the Jones are troopers and, after all, the week is filled with so many fun things. Amanda is with one of her very best buddies from the Dallas-Fort Worth area where they served for several years. I was so happy for the Jones to move back to Houston but so sad to see AJ leave some of the best friends she’d ever made. For moms, I don’t know if there’s any replacing the friends you had when you all started your families. Several of those friends are still in my life and we talk about those days all the time. I will hear many good Janelle and Ella stories when the Jones get home. Janelle is one of Amanda’s BFFs and her darling Ella was born within the same few days as Jackson and in the same hospital so she is really special to us. She also made us want a little girl the second time around in the worst way.

Melissa is working like a mad woman on her thesis and her other classes this semester so she can be finished with this second Masters in May. I don’t even have to tell you that she’s chasing her tail. She’s coming in town this weekend for a wedding and I have to work over part of it but I’ll still enjoy her like crazy when we get to be together.

Good grief! I’ve got to get off of here. My handout for tonight is not finished. I just wanted to say good morning to you guys and see who was doing something out of the ordinary for Spring Break. Finances are tight this year so many of our Siestas are probably trying to get pretty creative on Stay-cations. Give each other some great ideas!

PS. For those of you who followed the comments to the last post, did you see that the young mom who collapsed into the coma has awakened and talked some? Praise You, Lord! Raise her up a living, breathing, walking, talking MIRACLE!

For the start of my Spring break, on Friday and Saturday I went to see a wonderful lady name Beth Moore ๐Ÿ™‚ speak about our loving God! Then spent some fun times at a nearby hotel with my family. It's been a nice Spring break; I hope everyone has a great one!

"ANOTHER BETH": Thanks for the tip on chocolates at Target; I'm on my way!

"NELLWYN": Your hiking trip sounds AMAZING! Are you gonna blog about it? I think a weekly short online journal of sorts would be very interesting.

SPRING BREAK: I cashed in on some spa gift certs. Get this: 3 massages, 1 facial, 1 spray tan…all in 1 week! In addition, hair color, haircut, 1 night out dancing, 2 walks on the beach…sigh. I almost forgot what an amazing week I had!

    Now that was a STAY-CATION.

    Hey Siesta Mama!
Happy Spring!! We had a couple 64 degree days this last weekend, and after sub-zero weather and more snow than I care to remember it was glorious! I've tried really hard to work up some sympathy for your 17 flakes of snow but here in MN it's a streeeeetch. Grin. I am working for spring break and trying to find the motivation to start spring cleaning. Know where I can find me some? Love ya tons!

Tammy, I think it is so cool that you live on a ranch and your husband judges rodeo? Can we come stay with you? Sounds like fun! and I ask, where is Wetumpka? I love the name! I work at a community college but I didn't get spring break. I got to be in a refreshing "retreat" at work. But one of my daughters came to-guess where? – HOUSTON! Wish I could have come too! You all should come to the Tabernacle reproduction in Lancaster PA! Now thats an awesome visit! I hear the creation museum is amazing. Have fun! I love you all! You are so fun! Blessings

Painting and more painting. Our spring break is not until April. My husband and myself both teach but we are also in the process of "flipping" two houses. We also moved into a new house this fall, that still needs some updating. I hate paying someone to do something I can do. Its much cheaper and sometimes I do a much neater job. I hope to do a little shopping to. ๐Ÿ™‚

At church right now waiting for my ladies to arrive. Got 21 of 'em and we're doing "Me, Myself and Lies"…..I did it last summer with ya.

Anyway our spring break is the last week of March and sadly we are not going anywhere. Money. But maybe we will try and take some time to go someplace fun to eat….say, in Billings. Make a day of it. Be glad we have jobs and a loving family.

    Love you, Beth.

Well while lots of my students are hitting the beach, we are heading to the mountains tomorrow to have Christmas, yes I said Christmas, with our families.

There was too much snow to go home in December so here we go to WV, where by the way there is still snow, ho,ho,ho.

Prayed for you and your class earlier. Hope all went well!

    Much love and Merry Christmas!

Well … we aren't planning to go anywhere for spring break, but my husband and I have decided to take a weekend every 3-4 months to get away. Even if that means staying in town or getting a hotel room in a nearby suburb. Next weekend, we're going to Montgomery, AL to take advantage of a hotel deal through my husband's work. A night in a fancy hotel and a massage for each of us! We're so excited!!!

    Shellie Paparazzo says:

Well, you already know that I started spring break by nearly losing my mind! Today has been much better. In fact, the kids cleaned their rooms and Jeremiah did the dishes (is it too much to ask for more of the same for the rest of vacation?) Right now they're at the park with daddy with bats and balls and gloves and doing whatever else they like to do at the park. I hope they stay gone a while, so I can finish up on here and maybe actually get to my Chapter nine lesson. I just have so much to catch up on! Last week, they all got the stomach flu or I'd probably already be done. I knew I was going to need it done for this week, so planning on it Thursday last week and then 3 a.m. Thursday morning, probably before you even posted the new assignment, Jeremiah woke up throwing up, and shortly afterward Chloe came in my room to tell me her tummy hurt. Later on that day I got a phone call from school that I needed to pick up Angela because she was throwing up. I've never seen my oldest two that sick in my life. Chloe never got quite as sick as they did, thank God! Poor things. This flu was so bad that two days earlier when Josh (my husband) got it, we thought it was food poisoning! It wasn't until that Thursday morning we knew it wasn't. Good thing Josh got it first so I didn't rush the kids to the hospital thinking they were dying!

By the way, the anonymous siesta that talked about being jealous of other siestas getting comments from you? I know the feeling, although, I've told myself a million times it's stupid. Like you could possibly read all the thousands of comments that come in! No way! So, good to know none of us are being intentionally ignored or something! Of course, I was pretty convinced of it before, but having a hard time convincing my heart. Like she said, don't let it stop you from commenting. Just me always feeling invisible up here in little north idaho! Oh, God, please don't let that noise outside be my kids coming home! Praise God for husband's who know when you need them taken away for a while!

Over the weekend the hubs and I went back to my hometown of Crandall to hang out with my side of the family. We always have such a great time catching up with them. We made sure to visit my maw maw who had eye surgery today, and I just found out that everything turned out wonderful for her.

The rest of this week I'm doing stuff that normally doesn't get done during the school year-cleaning, laundry, etc. I'm also getting ready for my Home Show on Saturday for my new business that I'm starting this . Check us out http://www.everythingbutthebarndoor.shutterfly.com

Working puzzles, memorizing Scriptures (which is our family Lent celebration), playing games, and rescuing doves from our bird-dog. We used washable markers to draw mustaches and tattoos on our kiddos today for something fun because it is cold and rainy weather. They ran to the bathroom mirror ever couple of minutes just to laugh at themselves. We baked cookies, played some Wii games, and scrubbed our tiles floors, old-school, which was a great work-out!

We are empty nesters so Spring Break really doesn't make much difference in our lives. Our pregnancy testing center where I volunteer is closed this week and that is where we meet for our Bible study Tuesday mornings for Daniel. But, like you, we met this morning anyway to make up our snow day. We have borrowed the Daniel DVD's from the County Baptist Association and have to have it back at a certain time. Oh, Beth….we are all SO loving this Bible study! We had Session 6 today and there were some lively discussions afterwards!

Hope you week is a wonderful one!

Just a note about being a party animal.. I teach high school Spanish (and this is also relevant to your "siesta"!) and I had a student ask me how to say that he's a party animal. And he also wanted to know how to say beach. So he says, "Soy animal de fiesta en la playa" which means "I am a party animal at the beach." Hilarious!

Our Spring Break was last week and after three days of cloud and rain, the last four days were warm and sunny. I spent them outside in my backyard, grinning from ear to ear when I heard our first pairs of purple martins. They warbled and chirped while checking out the "rooms" in the martin houses. Usually, we get them by mid-February, but the cold weather has kept them away longer. Our hummingbirds haven't arrived yet due to the azaleas which haven't bloomed yet. The weather has turned cold again. But that's okay. The longer the cold stays, the colder the Gulf of Mexico gets and that means less chance of hurricanes this summer.

Right now deep in the new edition of Breaking Free. Just viewed Session 8 video last night at class. I was a student of the first Breaking Free in 1999 (life-changing at a very personal level). Then led it in 2003. Couldn't imagine what it would be like leading it again with the new edition. God bless you Beth for all you have brought to the page and through video lessons. We are all being challenged – discussions powerful and some have realized the need for help outside of class. Prayers needed that healing will come where needed. By the way, looking forward to your coming to Tampa! Take care and God bless you and yours.

My 17 yr old son tried to slyly slip in a comment the other night… "My friends and I want to go to the (Jersey) shore for Spring break."… and he continued the rest of his conversation. WHAT??? You hear so many horror stories of kids getting into such trouble on these spring break outings, the idea's already spoiled with me. A group of 17 yr olds going for a week UNACCOMPANIED by adults to a beach community?? I don't think so!! Besides, I thought spring break stuff was for seniors! My son's a junior. I thought I still had a year before I had to deal with this. Lord, Help me.

Now, last week, my husband and I spent a gorgeous day at a place north of Philadelphia called "Longwood Gardens." Absolutely the most beautiful day we've seen yet this year! They're having their "Orchid Extravaganza" and we were in such awe! Did you know there are over 3200 species of orchids??!! Isn't God just so amazing?!!!

Thank you for serving and for your transparency in sharing your heart. The law of the LORD is prefect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. Not doing anything out of the ordinary, but, I did take time to read almost every post on this blog and OH MY how sweet and endearing every lady seems, I do not always have the time. I feel blessed just to know that I have something in common with so many sweet women. Sometimes life gets so busy that even with many people around me I feel isolated, reading these was a blessing! I pray a special blessing on you Beth and Amanda as you continue this blog and community of busy women who love the Lord. And Melissa, while I do not have the blessed opportunity to study formally as you do, I study ALL the time I can, it seems the older I get the more I realize what I do not know, there is more to know than we can ever know on this earth . Study hard for us who cannot for some day it will be your books we are studying. Shalom

Cheese's with friends. Friday we may go to the park and/or bowling again. (We love to bowl.)

Please pray for my precious daughter. She has her first "grown-up" job and has made some big mistakes. She is a Christian, but the mistakes are huge and could be devastating to her future. Please pray God's protection over her. Satan would like nothing better than to destroy her witness and God's calling on her life.

    Thank you so much Siestas!

Hey, Bethie! Bet you thought I fell off the planet… I've just been spending the last several weeks running about as hard and fast as I can go… (I've added a ton of new violin students this semester.)

Spring break for us is next week. I need it! I need to catch up on reading and homework for Breaking Free…and maybe catching up on some of the posts from SLI, too. I haven't had time to even read those! (But I have been staying up to date on the reading… just no time to comment or read the comments.)

Hunky Hubby and I will be hanging out at the house here next week, not doing much of anything, if I have anything to say about it… (I need that time to myself… and I relish it.)

Spring break in my part of Tampa is the week of March 29. My husband and I (emptynesters) will be going to visit friends in North Carolina and then to our cabin in the mountains for a few days.

Spring Break???

His other grandparents asked to spend time with him and I have enjoyed some much needed time with just me and Jesus. I am so thankful for bible study and have been praying that God give me a greater desire to love his word and to have a heart like his. By them is your servant warned;in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11

Shalom
