G.P. Are You With Me?

We’ve been asked a few times lately what in the world G.P. means. (Beth says it in the Esther videos.) G.P. stands for God’s Property, which is from Kirk Franklin’s song “Stomp.” It’s an LPM favorite. God’s Property is actually the name of the choir that partnered with him on that song. This is not great quality, but here’s the video for you. Enjoy!

Glory, glory!

So funny that you blogged about this! I’m facilitating our Esther group, so I always preview the videos and I was cracking up at “GP are you with me?” session. So I made sure my ladies knew what was up! I even taught them the appropriate response – “Oh Yeah, We Havin’ Church – Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere!”

We are loving it! But I have a question. I’m facilitating two groups, so by the end of the week, I’ve seen each video three times and start to notice random things – like the ever-changing display on the desk in the “oval office.” I particularly enjoyed the peace sign statue and what looked suspiciously like a framed photo of John Wayne. Just exactly who is responsible for dressing your set?

    Amanda,

I totally knew what G.P. was during Session 6!

I have the privilege of leading the sweetest group of about 30 ladies that meet on Thursdays and I have every age and stage imaginable represented.

I wish you could have seen my row of senior adult ladies. Not. a. clue! ๐Ÿ™‚ I had a ball watching them look at each other with a puzzled look every time your Mom said it.

But please don’t think that the message got lost in anyone wondering what G.P. meant!

We were totally all over our reversal of destinies, chiastic structures and peripity!!!

    Glory, glory…INDEED!

    Blessings,
    Dori

If you only KNEW the times my coworker, Sabrina, and I have rocked out to this song on the way to Tuesday night Bible study! People who stop next to us at a red light go bug-eyed at these two middle-aged white chicks, hands in the air, in a little silver car that is rocking back and forth with some LOUD Gospel bass. I’m telling you, there is a Black woman somewhere deep inside of me that is forever trying to find her way out. I do not have the musical taste of a white woman.

This GP is with you, Kirk!

GP here…put your hands together girls!! Me neither, Beth!!

I lived in Memphis,TN for four years and I worked in a pharmacy where the pharmacist and I were the only two “white chiks” in the whole building. I loved it cause the girls taught me “ghetto” all the time. It was a hoot.

Beth…did you “bump” your hair today? I know you did! MMMMHmmm

I was wondering about that!! Thanks for letting us know… I’m going to pass it on to the girl-friends in the study. We haven’t gotten to that yet, but I’ve been listening to the audio and got to thinking Beth was talking to someone in the congregation!! (lol) now I know she definitely was!! She was talkin’ to me! Thanks for the lift! I love this blog, it helps me get through my day at work. I wanted to get up and dance but I couldn’t, maybe later. I can just imagine what it’s like in your office. Ya all must put down the reference books, close the laptops for a spell and get up and share in some dancing gospel celebration. I would love to be a fly on the wall and see what you guys do all day!

We are on Ester chapter 5, it’s so good. Now I’ll know what GP means next week.

Thanks for your ministry to us!

We saw this session a couple of weeks ago….DROVE US CRAZY. I love Kirk Franklin and can’t believe I couldn’t figure it out. I kept thinking it was a nickname she called the Houston group.

So much fun! Esther should be a requirement for all women! FABULOUS job LPM and Lifeway!

I’m SOO glad to know what this means! Our study group did session 6 the day before this blog was written (great timing, Amanda!)and I had guessed that Beth was asking us if we “Get the Picture?” I was starting to think she had lost all faith in our ability to follow along with what she was saying!
Our Bible Study group is mostly senior adult, and decidedly caucasian! There are only a few of us in there who are young moms, and none of us got this reference.

Esther has been WONDERFUL so far! We love you, Beth!

  32. 32
    Beth says:

FYI: I really did explain what GP meant in the original taping. If it’s not there in the final cut, the editors accidentally overlooked the explanation and cut it (for time’s sake, of course! I am a time-nightmare in taping!). I wouldn’t have intentionally left that little tidbit out! So sorry it was confusing…but you’re a GP whether you knew it or not!

I love this video! Oh my, if the fact that we are God’s property doesn’t make us want to dance in the streets, then I don’t know what will.

    Michelle R. says:

Too funny! I did know what G.P was b/c I happen to have put this song on my IPOD at Beth’s recommendation — when we did the Siesta playlist a while ago. Love it! Makes me “whoop whoop” everytime! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Edwards Family says:

cracking up- as my dear friend emailed you all to ask this–our group was coming up with all kinds of answers and then we started texting our kids to see if it stood for something…LOL..too cute!

Cindy- My Life HIS Story says:

I, too, explained to my sweet group what it meant. I had the unique privilege of having a young 20 year old in the group who is a ‘graduate’ of our youth group and my high school girls Sunday School class. We shared a very knowing grin as I explained it. Some of my older ladies might kick me out of the church if they could see how those girls and I would literally be dancing in the street/parking lot, whatever was handy when that song came on. So, Mama Beth…are you a Grits fan, too? We like us some Grits for praising!!

And I’m with Leslie…the set changes were great…and the peace sign…I posted earlier about the bunny ears it gave Siesta Mama during an intense teaching moment!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Shannon says:

Rachel, I am with you–Salt has indeed come a long way from her “Shoop” days (although, full disclosure, I love that song. LADIES, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT ON MY RECOMMENDATION. NOT A GODLY SONG. JUST A FUN ONE.) Although her stint on “Surreal Life” was less than stellar. Wow, I am all about the pop culture sludge.

    Diane says:

I’m glad to know too. I totally thought I had missed something and am in 2 groups so saw the video twice. We are not real old ladies yet (!), and my daughter (age 20) even asked me what it meant. So thanks so much for cluing us in!

I cannot tell you how powerful this study has been for me! There are so many relevant lessons in Esther, and Beth has brought them to life in a way that speaks so personally to me. I hope I remember them forever. Thank you so much for being so available to the Holy Spirit’s leading, because I am one of the probably hundreds of thousands who are changed because of it!

Haha! I made the (incorrect) assumption that it stood for “God’s People” (GP) which worked in the context and seemed right enough to me at the time!! “Are you with me, God’s People??” I kept saying to the screen, “I’m with ya, I’m with Ms. Beth!!” ๐Ÿ™‚

My Esther ladies and I wondered who GP was. Thank you for sharing. I am with Dori when she said we were all over chiastic structures, peripity, and oh the reversal of destiny. It is all I can do to keep from standing up in church when the Word is being taught and saying “reversal of destiny.” Oh yeah I got that one. I love GP and I love Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac. Played one of their new songs in our study.
