Bad Day?

Me, five minutes ago on the phone: “Amanda, I am having the worst hair day of my life.”

Her: “Worse than day before yesterday??”

Me: “Amanda, that was hair I woke up with. This is hair I have fixed!”

Her: “Oh, Mom.”

Me: “AND, I am having a bad face day.”

Pause for reflection.

Her: “A bad hair day and a bad face day all on the same day.”

Silence with groanings that cannot be uttered.

Her: “Well, Mom. At least you can know that tomorrow it’s gonna be better.”

Bad day, Dear Siesta? Well, at least you can know tomorrow’s gonna be better.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over.” Isaiah 60:1,2.

It’s gonna get better. And I’m talking about more than your hair. The Son’s just about to rise upon you.

Aren’t you glad bad hair days have to submit to Jesus, too?!!? I have had some days myself, but it seems like they don’t usually come in pairs!

I did Stepping Up DVD, week #1, last night. So awesome! I really needed to know that maybe some of our earthquakes are to shake us loose from some of those chains!

    God bless you, siesta!!

Bad Day? I had knee surgery last week that was supposed to be minor and turned into major. Now I’m on crutches 2 to 3 weeks instead of 2 or 3 days. Even though I didn’t know that, God did and is probably laughing at me for stressing out about dinners, housekeeping and my hair! Tomorrow will be a better day. Love you!

Never posted before but this was for me. I spent yesterday with my precious youngest daughter and her beautiful hair-with lice. WHAT! One of those childhood things that the school nurse assured me there is no shame in getting but much shame in not getting rid of. I cried out God you have the hair on this girl’s head numbered and I need you to look at each one of them and help me! And guess what, He did! There for a while I was thinking bald is beautiful! The blessing is that God prompted her little heart in December and she had given more than 10″ to Locks of Love. This thing called hair and the grief it causes!

    Beth,
Some days are just like that!! But God is good all the time, and there is nothing we can do–even having a bad hair day–that would make Him love us any less!!
Week 9 in Breaking Free has been so good for me because it is meeting me right where I am. I am so glad God doesn’t just see the outside-bad hair and all-but he sees the inside, too! My good hair days are probably worse than your bad hair days!! 🙂 LOL! But, I also have “bad heart days” and “bad thought days,” and God always reaches out to me with His everlasting, powerful love for me!!
I will see you Tuesday–you have several days to tame that hair of yours!!
    Love you,
    Melody

Hi Beth..a timely word for a snow-weary Torontonian–just finished shovelling yesterday and another winter storm coming tonight. But as per Heather’s perspective at Mumblings of a Mommy Monk, I can be grateful that I have a shovel, a driveway, a van {a horse-capability to jump snowbanks would have been useful!), and heat! And a hat to hide the hair! Thank You, Lord. And yes, the sun is coming! The Son has come! Let us praise Him.

Oh my gosh! I so needed to hear this today! My 22month old toddler boys locked me out of the house this morning at 7:15, wearing pajamas with no phone, no keys, no nothing. And it just went downhill from there. But thanks for reminding me it WILL get better!

Thank you for that verse. I was going to have to go in with my pastor husband b/c he has me go in when he counsels women. This women came to talk about leaving her husband. My husband is a friend to him. I had an attitude. First, I was so ready to go home & make stew!! Have a cozy night at home. & now didn’t get to come home until 7:30. ( I couldn’t tell if i was being selfish or had a check in my spirit)
Anywho, I read this verse right before we went in to counsel. It helped me so much (alive & powerful) 1. arise, get up 2. shine, pull the veil back & let Jesus shine 3. the glory
When we got home I told my husband I was going to make stew if it hair-lipped the governor, he has a sense of humor with me. That verse was a god-send.

Thank you for this. I have tears in my eyes. I had an awesome day in the Lord yesterday. It was so God-filled and amazing. Satan didn’t like that, and today has been the worst day in a long time. But I know that it will get better and I know Satan wouldn’t be attacking me if I wasn’t growing in the Lord. Y’all have a great day.

Thanks I needed that scripture. I had a horrible day yesterday. My dearest friend and sister in law and I miscommunicated something to each other through email (sometimes I really dislike this whole impersonal email stuff)and it turned into a horrible melt down. Once we were able to talk on the phone and sort it out we both said sorry and hung up. But today I just couldn’t shake how upset she was over a simple misunderstanding. I value her friendship and I guess it will take awhile to truly mend. Next time I will call if I don’t understand what someone is trying to tell me instead of emailing them. 🙂

    Beth,
While you were having a bad day, we were being blessed beyond messure! As we drove the hour long trip to Children’s hospital in Columbus, we listened to Travis’ Alive Forever album. The night before, my daughter Grace and I were having a conversation about how amazing it was that we can call God our friend. So we jammed to “I am a friend of God” and other great songs on the way to the hospital.

When we got there Grace was in the best of moods…please note that she spent the previous day being “cleaned out” for her colonoscopy and hadn’t eaten much of anything. Every doctor and nurse that walked into her room commented on how “happy” she was. When asked by the anestisiologist if she wanted to have mom or dad come back while they put her to sleep, she responded, “Well, if they both can’t go then I’ll just go by myself.” We let her. she had her purple bear Alaska with her so all was good.

The best part was when the doctor told us that Grace has ulcerative colitis. After going through thyroid cancer myself last year, the last thing we wanted to hear was the word cancer. Although ulcerative colitis is not curable it is treatable. So, today we are praising God!

I received several emails from Siestas all over the country and I know we were bathed in prayer yesterday. God is so good I could cry…or dance…or just plain shout!

Thanks to everyone who lifted us in prayer. What a blessing to serve such an incredible Friend like our Lord!

    Kimberly

PS: Thought you’d be interested in knowing Grace’s middle name is Elizabeth. Her dad calls her Gracie Beth. :o)

And it has been raining ALL day. Praise be to God for good hair days. I can’t imagine Beth having a bad hair or face day….I hope today is a better day.

Okay, I’ll keep it brief. But as I read the comments…Oh, sweet darlings, only those of you who live in TX can really appreciate our precious Beth’s lament!! What is it about Texas women and their hair?!?!? We just can’t seem to help our vanity! 😉 AND…after a couple of bad hair days in a row, you know, when you’ve had it and are ready to cut the whole mess of it off…Someone walks up and tells you how good your hair looks! PLEASE someone tell me I am not alone in that!!! Is that not the most frustrating thing! I always wonder, “Now what do I do?!”

One last thing. Beth, you are a beauty…no matter what!!

On the subject of bad hair! just found this on our local news website:She thought she was getting a bad haircut, but police in southwestern Pennsylvania say when Lauren Newton complained, she got a bullet in the back.

Newton’s hairstylist is now facing charges of aggravated assault
    and reckless endangerment.

Police say the two had been arguing yesterday about the style of
the cut when the hairstylist left the room and returned with a gun.
Newton and her sister tried to flee after the stylist fired a shot into the ceiling, but police say that’s when a second shot hit
    Newton in the lower back.

She was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. Her
injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

The hairstylist is being held in a Washington, Pennsylvania,
    jail on $50,000 bond.

    Mrs. Beth,
I really needed this word. My 14 year old daughter has autism. She is doing well in school in an occupational course of study. She is a delight to her teachers. However, my husband (her dad) and I had a huge falling out last night. He said I see everything through rose colored glasses. It is causing a good bit of strain in our marriage. I cried all the way to work this morning. And then I saw the blog. Thank you so much.

Good thing I’m not in the spotlight like you are cause I have a lot of bad hair days! ha I….like another Siesta who posted…..have been tempted to take a picture of you to my hair stylist and see if she can give me a cut similar to your. Thanks for being real. I remember you saying something in “Breaking Free” about not putting people on a pedestal. I know we shouldn’t but I know we all do to some extent. You make us be able to see that even with bad hair days….bad face days…..bad ATITUDE days (I have those more than the other two!)…or any other kind of bad days, we can look forward to tomorrow and what good things our Lord has in store for us!

Talk about bad hair – I wanted to get mine colored so went to the salon and saod “let’s do something a bit different – let’s go a bit darker” So to spice it up we added a bit of red to it! The only color that ‘took’ was the red!! I laughed, the stylist just about cried! I told her I’d threatened my husband for years that I wanted to be a red head! When I got home his eyes got big as saucers and then he started to laugh! I do think it is kinda fun!

OH, HOW I WISH I HAD READ THIS YESTERDAY!!!!

I was sitting in the airport…waiting to fly out to San Francisco to meet my beloved for his birthday (he’s got a conference there). I was excited and not even worried about my 3 small young ones. They would be lovingly cared for by my parents.

Then, the cancellation of the flight due to ice/snow in Dallas. The rescheduled flight today would have put me in San Fran too late. So, we jointly decided it wasn’t worth it. I was beyond disappointed…at not being able to see my hubby for his birthday, at not being able to escape motherhood for a few days, and, frankly, at not being able to have my spa day today in the hotel!!! Sorry, I cannot tell a lie. 🙂

I’ve been sulking all day today. So, thanks for the gentle, funny, loving reminder. Tomorrow’s gonna be a better day. The Son is definitely gonna shine. No doubt about it.

Please everyone pray for my friend B. who is a Mom of 4 and suffering from MAJOR addiction!! Pray that the facility where she is will help her. Pray for her husband and 4 precious children – that they can understand this disease that has overtaken their Mom. Pray that she can climb out of this pit and finally stay out!!!! Pray that she will stop her self- destrustive behaviors and that God will fill her up and satisfy her instead of the drugs. Let her finally “get it” this time. Pray she will come home and be able to be the Mom and wife that God wants her to be. Pray that she will stay in the facility and not leave when it starts to get hard. Pray especially for her 4 children – fill their hearts up with love and help them when they miss their Mom. Pray that her husband will not give up on her. Pray for B. who is a good, GODLY person – who Satan has in his grip – that his grip will be replaced by the loving hand of God. Pray that she can come home and have a “bad hair” day and be thankful for it. God forgives and HIS grace is for everyone who believes. I KNOW she believes – she just needs to know that she is worth it and can do it with HIS help. Thanks
