The following is an excerpt from a phone conversation between my mom and me on Friday night.
B: Hey, sweet darlin’!
AJ: Hey, Mama! How’s it going in Atlanta?
B: Well, you know Sandi Patty is here and…
AJ, interrupting/yelling: WHAT?!?! Sandi Patty is there? I’m dying! Did you talk to her?
B: Yes, I got to hug her neck and…
AJ: Did you tell her we listened to “The Friendship Company” like every day?
B: No, but…
AJ, still yelling: Were you freaking out?
B: Yes, and she and Travis sang together.
AJ, astonished that she wasn’t there: WHAT?!?! Did they sing “Another Time, Another Place”? Because if so, I’ll just die!
B: No, honey, they sang…
AJ: Mother! Love in any language, straight from the heart, pulls us all together. Never apart! And once we learn to speak it, all the world will hear…love in any language, fluently spoken here!
I didn’t die, but it has taken me a few days to recover from not being in Atlanta to hear Sandi Patty and Travis sing together! 🙂
Ok, you girls crack me up!
Sooo cute, tender and funny all at the same time! Y’all are awesome!
Love,
Kristen
Too funny! I hope to one day experience the joy of being a grandmother so that I can just love on those little ones. From what i hear, there is nothing like it!
How Sweet!! I have had the same reaction when my daughters have called me to talk to my smaller grandchildren over the phone….complete silence but according to the mommies, big smiles!! It’s always “heart-warming”.
Oh, that’s too cute. And so typical of a little one!
And I bet not long after you hung up he was talking non-stop about her, right?!
Hey Amanda, I knew I needed to check the blog first thing this morning. It was precious. As I woke up, Beth was on my mind in a huge way so I started praying for her and lifting her up to our Savior! I know that God will provide her with what she needs!
Beth, you are being cradled in the arms of our Savior — He will provide for you!!!!!! -JH
This happened to me so many times especially when my teen boys were little, made the call and no talking! Makes us mommies look bad! Gotta love those babies!
Loved reading this “conversation”… And Beth’s comments about wooden spoons brought back many memories from my childhood:) Mom always seemed to have those spoons wherever she needed them: in the car, in the diaper bag, or in the house. But let me tell you, the loving discipline worked:)
But now that my mom is a Grandma, I think she would agree with Beth: Those wooden spoons were made for our hynies, not the little cheeks of the grandkids! It’s our job now to discipline, and theirs to spoil:)
Much love to your sweet family!
Love,
Tara
HOW PRECIOUS! Love it. Thanks for sharing! Congratulations on 10 years of LPL, also! 🙂
Precious!
The Man’s momma had “the board of education”…there was much threatening and waving it about…not much contact with a sweet little rear, however.
My mom had “the fastest slipper in the east”. She would whip that house slipper off so fast it would be holstered back on her foot and our bottom would be stinging before we even knew what, literally, hit us!
I broke many a wooden spoon…couldn’t bear to pop their bottoms with it very often…I broke them all slammin’ them down on the counter when I couldn’t bring myself to swat their cutie patooties with it.
I feel like I can actually hear that last comment in Bethie’s own voice. 🙂
Amanda one time I was trying unsuccessfully to get my son to eat his PBJ. I finally noticed that he had orange dust on his fingers that strongly resembled Cheetos residue, but I knew I had not given him any Cheetos. Heavens sake I was trying to get him to eat a PBJ. I looked at my mother, the very same woman who had made me sit at a table for 4 yes FOUR hours one night over A, 1, singular green bean to see the most guilty face I had ever seen. Her reply was that he didn’t want a sandwhich, he wanted a cheeto. She had been sneaking him chips behind my back and even making up excuses to get me to leave the table. But, my children ADORE her.
The silent stage won’t last long. Before long he’ll be talkin’ your ear off (just ask my kid’s grandparents)
W A A A Y T O O F U N N Y !!!
too funny!! You two could be a comedy-duo!
Whenever I call someone because of my 21 mos old daughter (“she’s asking for you, Daddy!” “She said ‘gam’ and I knew that meant you, Grandma!”) and I put my daughter on the phone, there is nothing but crickets chirping in the background. Silence. Except, of course, for my mommmy voice saying, “Say Hi to Daddy, baby. Can you say Hi Daddy?” So embarassing, and hard on poor Daddy who’s at the office, talking up a storm in his best baby-talk voice. 🙂
that is cute. My son calls my mom BB. They never seem to talk on the phone when you want them to.
I talk to my mom every morning too.
That’s too funny. My kids love to call their grandma on the phone too…grandma’s are never too busy to talk to their little ones.
WHat about a wooden PAINT Stir? That works wonders around here. All we have to do it tap it on the corner of something and all activity ceases. Plus the threat of a “RED HAND-PRINT” also works wonders.
I know all about the Hickry too. If I got one too little my Momma went and got a limb. Ouch!!!
My brother is in Iraq, and my 3 year old is constantly asking if she can write an email to Uncle Matt. She does the typing herself, an sometimes she lets me “translate”. But I know when we see him again this summer (PTL) she will clam up and cling to my leg! Kids.
Oh Amanda: I am going to be a grandmother in August and I can’t wait. I know Bibbi would not spank Jackson – but I do believe she will make him behave!
I love it.
Thank you sweet girl.
Georgia Jan
LOL
Y’all are a lot of fun!
Girls, I am preparing for my group to come over tomorrow where the Lord teaches me and then I teach them. I am answering their questions on various things and I am teaching them how to find the answers in the word as well. I am dealing with the issue of losing salvation and eternal guarantee…I know tough questions, I am thrilled they are asking and we are diving into the deep waters of Gods Word together…As I am in the process of this I am referencing some of the material i have studied with Beth. I thought it would be fun on an occassion to take each of the studies on different occasions and let us go through our old books that have been worn and underlined as we have experienced the Lord through His Word. i.e. I am looking in LBY and getting tickled over the lessons I have learned there, I would love to share and hear how “siestaville” was moved through some of these lessons. Ok I know this post was out of the context of the original content, but I was preparing and had that thought. I love you! I rejoice with you. Blessings. Tiffany
From the mouths of babes. Too funny! :0)
I love that, I live away from my 3 oldest children and my 3 grandkids, and I love to talk to them on the phone, but you are right there are times that they won’t talk and there are times I feel that there mommy my oldest daughter needs a spanken…
Thank you for giving me a reason to laugh today…
My mom was babysitting her grandchildren one morning and they were extremely rambuncious. And after several requests to settle down with no results she reached into her utensil drawer and pulled out a wooden spoon and said “OK thats it, I have had enough”, to which my little neice announced to her other little cousins “come quick, Nannys making cookies”. They knew she wouldn’t dream of using the wooden spoon on them, but they had seen it used many a time to make them their favorite cookies. That was over 10 years ago and my Mom still chuckles everytime she pulls out a wooden spoon to make her babies their cookies.
