For Wish-to-be Writers From a Couple of Real Live Writing Coaches

Hey, you guys! In February we hosted an event called “Lit” for women in their 20s and 30s who sense a call from God to write, teach or speak. About a week beforehand, I DM’d my friend, Jonathan Merritt, and asked him if he had a piece of advice he’d have me pass on to women who hoped to write. What I received in return was like asking for a stone and getting a fresh loaf of yeast bread hot out of the oven with a whole side of salted butter. He and his fellow writing coach, Margaret Feinberg, who I admire and greatly respect, did a 12 minute video just for that event. I loved it and couldn’t help but wonder how many others could use what they had to say. I asked them if I could share it here, and they were gracious enough to give me permission.

So you can trust they have the writing cred to coach, Jonathan is a contributor to The Atlantic and writes for everyone from USA Today to the Washington Post. He’s a premier religion writer and knows how to reach a mainstream audience like few others on the planet. We need the message of Jesus spread everywhere. Many of you have a message that needs to reach people who don’t know Jesus yet. That’s Jonathan’s forte.

Margaret Feinberg is the author of dozens of books like Fight Back with Joy and Wonder Struck and numerous Lifeway Bible studies. She’s crazy about Jesus and her writing is deep and rich and beautifully crafted. She lives a life of pouring out in a world obsessed with pouring in.

Jonathan and Margaret are not just gifted writers. They’re gifted writing coaches. They’re about to open enrollment for a new online 16-week coaching program as part of the Write Brilliant Academy where they can help you make that dream of writing a book or Bible study become a reality. This is not a pitch from them. I asked them to allow me to share the information because I’m so often asked, “How does a person even begin to write a book???” I don’t have the expertise to explain that process comprehensively but these two do.

The best part: they are giving away a FREE 3-part mini-course to help you start writing, share your writing, and sustain your writing. You’re gonna love it but you better hop to it! It’s only available for a short time. Sign up at jumpstartmywriting.com today. Their coaching program may be exactly what you need to share the message rattling in your bones. OK, I’ll get out of the way and let you connect with these two. We’re so happy to set you up with them.

Thank you a million times over, Jonathan and Margaret!

I just want everyone to know that not only am I enrolled in Write Brilliant, but I attended Margaret & Jonathan’s Writers Boot Camp in Atlanta back in November of 2015. Trust me when I tell you their instruction is TOP NOTCH. The success I’ve had since boot camp and now Write Brilliant is beyond my wildest dreams. I was hoping to just revamp my blog, grow my social media presence, and practice everything I learned for a year. By God’s grace, everything I learned turned into publication with multiple online sites (for pay even!) and an upcoming publication in a print magazine I’ve dreamed about for decades. (Coming out this summer – don’t want to jinx the name until the story is inked!)

Margaret and Jonathan hold nothing back in sharing their successes and failures with compassion and insight. You WILL become a better writer by enrolling in their course. I guarantee results and an increase in confidence to share the gift God’s given you. The instruction is comprehensive, not to mention their personal interaction through coaching calls, a private Facebook group, and oodles of provided resources.

Thank you, Beth Moore, for sharing this opportunity. I first saw Margaret Feinberg at the Lifeway National Women’s Leadership Conference at Ridgecrest in 2010. Fell in love with her demeanor and style instantly.

I was just curious as to why Lit was limited to women in their 20’s and 30’s only?

I love seeing how God is using Jonathan (and Margaret). I was a member of Jonathan’s dad’s church in the mid 1980s when Jonathan was a little guy. I’ve known his great-uncles for my entire life. God bless you, Jonathan. Thanks, Beth, for presenting their Boot Camp here.

Thank you Beth for moving mountains. God has graced you with a tremendous gift for growing women in His design, hearing in your heart what he has planned and being brave enough to step out in faith. There are so many amazing times that you say the right thing in the right place at the right time… without ever knowing the full extent of the reach of God’s word.
This message is perfect timing for me, since I completed a second book which I know was God led, but I don’t think my writing is good enough or that there was anyway to get it ‘out’ there. I was going to rewrite this book for the umpteenth time or just give up and stop spending money on these efforts. This encouragement has helped me commit to moving forward. Thank you.

    Beth,
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Just yesterday, I sat down to brain dump and ended up writing my “why” and who I am according to God. And then this morning, I stumbled upon this video and printable, this loving encouragement from you and Jonathan and Margaret. God’s timing is incredible as always.
As I sit in my comfy chair nursing a tiny babe, 2-year-old nestled into my side, and 4-year-old at my feet, I feel compelled to ask…Will there be another Lit conference? Or is there perhaps a recording of the event that we can purchase? Circumstances didn’t work for me this year, but I so wanted to be there! I worked through Entrusted in the fall, excitedly read the email about Lit, and then got busy having a baby (my seventh baby at that)! I trust God, and I know He’s put the fire in my bones! We’ll keep working it out together, but I would love to sit under your teaching in person sometime. I’ll certainly be looking into this coaching from Margaret and Jonathan as well.
Thank you again for sharing and encouraging!

Hi Katy, thank you for your sweet comment. While there are currently no plans for a future Lit event, we did film the event in hopes of turning it into a product for purchase! If/when it becomes available, we will be sure to announce it. Blessings to you and your family!

So grateful to you Beth and your heart for raising up a generation who tell their story–the story God is writing in them–with beauty and passion in a way that transforms lives.

Much love to you Big Sis!

So timely for me to hear the encouraging words as I am trying to get my book finished and published.
Perfectionism…Failure…Rejection…words that the enemy whispers yet I am going to listen to the truth of who God says I am.
    Bless you for sharing this.

    A few more words…

I think my insecurities stem from being dyslexic. Writing and reading have always been very effortful for me and has led me to just give up on writing. I don’t even like to text. hahaha Being a professional photographer is urging me to write, well at least 300 words for my photoblog. So far, I’ve worked around it, but I know that I’m going to have to take this bull my the horns soon. Thank you for the encouragement!

Love, Love, Love this video clip! I especially love the idea of writing out my script and the truth about me side by side. I have already written my single parents life memoir and self published it in 2011. However, it has not taken off despite my best marketing efforts. I have everything set up for the revision, even my website…yet..I have not written the revision. Thank you for the encouragement! My goal is to finish the revision by the end of this year..2017. Blessings. Shirley Criteser

Praise God, this is just what I needed today! I am working on the final edit of a book proposal and just started a blog. The voices of discouragement are there, but God keeps sending me voices of encouragement like this to counter them. I only wish I had known about Lit!
