Name the Name

Toward the end of my prayer time this morning, the Holy Spirit spoke 4 words to me with such clarity and fire that I can’t keep them shut in my bones. They are not new but they cannot get old. They are the 4 most well-known words in our Christian vocabulary but they never wear out. These 4 words possess an authority that can speak worlds into orbit, make floors of seas, and send devils off cliffs.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Let these 4 words resound in your mind, leap from your mouth, and strengthen your step this day. His is the Name that shakes the earth beneath His feet with authority, salvation, affection, and anointing. His is the Name that snaps the chains. His is the one Name that cannot be etched in gravestone. This Name reverberates with everlasting life and extraordinary unction.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation…He is before all things and in Him all things hold together…He is the head of the Body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.”

Preeminent.

In everything.

He is THE beginning. And our new beginning. Our defeat ends with the full conviction of the incomparable Name of Jesus in our bones. Our lack is filled. Our souls are thrilled. Our knees are bowed. Our chins are raised.

We put no confidence in our flesh. We unleash every ounce of confidence we possess toward one game-changing, life-rearranging Name: The Lord Jesus Christ.

THE. There is no other.

LORD. Everything must submit.

JESUS. Yahweh is Salvation.

CHRIST. Messiah, the Anointed One.

Those who want to participate have a 3-part assignment:

1. Write out any ONE verse in the Bible that uses the name of Jesus. His name appears in most of your formal translations around 1000 times so you are wide open. Hunt His Name down. Grab your Bible concordance or get on a website like Bible Gateway and do a word search. You are welcome to use any translation. Choose one verse, write it out in your comment along with where it is found and which translation you used.

2. If you have the full conviction and earnest desire to do so, write the italicized sentence below in the second part of your comment and complete the exercise with your own specifics. This is not an exercise in magic words. This is a profession of faith in a matchless Name. We have a Savior. There is no god like our God. No other Rock I know. He cannot be defeated. His power cannot be depleted. Call out His Name over every single thing that is trying to exalt itself in your imagination over the knowledge of Christ. At His Name, let’s BOW.

I submit myself and the following challenges in my life to the unconquerable authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing His powerful Name, and acknowledging His absolute preeminence in all these things:

3. Keep confessing the power of His Name and of His Person in the coming days and every time you get that old angst, deliberately swap it for thanks. He who calls you is faithful. He will surely do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:24

      Tricia,
As the wife of an alcoholic husband of 24 years, who has endured immense pain from his ill treatment of me over the years and my codependency trying to please him, I know second hand the self pity, doubt and fear you speak of. My husband has cried out many times to me that he wants to quit and has never been able to. He is now turning his back on me and his 14 year old daughter because it is easier for him to do that than to confess to her that he loves her, loves me, does not mean the things he does when drinking, and will not reach out for help. I understand how difficult it is and I pray that the resurrection power that raised our LORD from the grave be with you and take away these things that bind you. I pray that you give you it all to the Lord and lean on him to fill your need that the alcohol is trying to fill for you. I pray that you find understanding of why you have these feelings and claim a victory for you from The Lord Jesus Christ!!! I am hurting myself tonight after being told that my husband does not love me and wants out of my marriage instead of getting help so I have decided to go back to my Lord and let Him help me through this. If He can help me with my pain, He can help you. He loves us because we are His children and would never want us to hurt and do anything to take us away from His love. Believe that and I will pray for you tonight in Jesus’ Name. Believe and accept His unwavering love and help and mercy. Love in Christ, Leah

      • Tricia says:

Leah, I can’t express how awesome it is to see the love and prayer you’ve extended to me here. Thank you so much for taking the time to do so. I’m happy to report that since writing my original comment, giving all those things to God, He has been working wonders with me. My eyes are opening, my heart is healing. I see now that I was trying to fill something in me with the alcohol, but it was really just taking me farther away from what could really fill my needs, God. God’s love, God’s peace. I am resting in Him, trusting His plan, letting Him show me what He has planned for me to spread His love to others. Thank you Leah! I will be praying for you too.

I submit myself and the following challenges in my life to the unconquerable authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing His powerful Name, and acknowledging His absolute preeminence in all these things:
Lord, I am learning to call it what it is. My heart is coated in sin! I know I break Your heart over and over again. My idol of pride fits into many categories. I hold to it tightly and find it has a grip of its own on me and holds me even tighter. I worship this idol regularly. You know my heart, Lord and how sorry I am, yet I continue to be abusive, foul, and offensive in my sin. There is more order in my false worship where I am in control than the blind faith in following you and each step comes with fear and uncertainty. My pride is a comfortable fit. I like to be in charge of protecting myself when frightened or scared. I put up a good front that life is great, but that is a BIG lie! I say I love You and I do desire to, but my love is weak. Things look good on the outside… the inside is one big mess.
Lord, I read that You bring comfort and rest to the weary. I am in need of that. I’m tired of snacking in the desert on sand. I thirst and am in need of an outpouring of You, springs of living water. Show me what it means to empty myself, to decrease so that You may increase. Fill me to the measure with You. Change my appetite from a diet of sand to a wonderful, bountiful, banquet that only You can serve. Draw me to Yourself. Cause me to worship only You. By Your grace and mercy, will You give me the help I need to get rid of these idols? I can’t do it in my own strength. Scour my heart. Do the deep cleaning that is necessary for my life to change. Be faithful in Your promises. You promise to equip and to protect and also to provide a way of escape during temptation. Draw me away from this horrendous idol worship. Replace my intense desire to carry around the old man, which reeks of death. Replace it with a passionate desire for You alone, that I may learn what it is to truly love and to be loved. Holy Spirit, be my teacher. I need you to not only teach me, but cause me to learn, enlighten my eyes so that these things which you teach me, can be written on my heart. Thank you for loading me with daily benefits. Now help me to understand just what that means. Lead me into true worship of You. Fill me full of Yourself. Let me be a useful tool that as You fill me, I would overflow to others. I so often feel inadequate. Equip me that I may be a part of Your command to go and make disciples. I praise and thank you, Almighty God for Your pursuit of me. Through of the precious blood of Jesus and in His wonderful, mighty name, Amen!
