These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Have you ever loved something so much that you annoy the folks around you because you won’t stop talking about it? While this is so true of new budding relationships, I’m really talking about materialistic things. You know, things like a new pair of sandals, your favorite chocolate milk that you can’t get enough of and well, I think you’re getting the idea.

Needless to say, I think I wear my friends out with my obsessiveness.

Let’s have a little fun, shall we?

I’ll share a list of my recent favorite things, and you share some of yours.

Boom.

After all, it is summer, and for those of us who don’t get a summer break, we all need little things to keep ourselves happy and entertained. Grin.

1) BIC Velocity Pen

Y’all. I do have an unusual love for pens. But I’m beginning to think it’s actually not that unusual.  It’s just that not everyone admits their love for such small, random and possibly nerdy things. But I needed a new batch of pens, because I don’t know about you, but my pens tend to wander. It’s hopeless to try and retrieve them all, so new ones it was. I surveyed the thousands on Staples.com and landed on the BIC Velocity Pen. When I say it took all the self-control in me to not just doodle all day yesterday, I’m not even lying. In fact, I did do a little doodling. So, if you’re looking for a good, inexpensive pen, BIC is your friend.

2) HEB Almond Chocolate Milk

If you do not live in Texas, I realize you have no idea what HEB is, but it is simply a local grocery store. In fact, HEB owns Central Market, which is another Texas gift. I guess we could say that HEB is the generic brand of Central Market. If we were ranking grocery stores (because we never do that) I would place HEB in third place, right behind Whole Foods and Central Market. In fact, it carries many of the Central Market items and that is a beautiful thing. Side Fact: Whole Foods originated in Austin, while the Central Market division originated in San Antonio. It’s ALL a Texas thing. And now I’m laughing because you could care less about all of this grocery store trivia. It’s hard being humble when you’re from Texas. Needless to say, HEB Almond Chocolate Milk takes first prize. I can’t vouch for any other brands since I’ve not even attempted to try any others. But what a waste it would be if I bought a ½ gallon, only to strongly dislike it. I’ll stick to what I know. I’m so addicted I may have to have a glass every night before bed. And maybe every morning. But, hey! It’s better than a bowl of ice cream, right? It’s a little taste of love and joy in a cup.

3) L’oreal Telescopic Mascara

If your eyelashes mean nothing to you, then at this point you might be rolling your eyes at me. If so, feel free to move on. But the number one question I get asked is what kind of mascara I use. I happen to love me some mascara, so I’m delighted to share it with you. And selfishly, I’m not sure what I’ll do if they ever discontinue this particular tube.  So maybe my sharing will get more people to purchase it which might mean it will last forever and ever. But L’oreal Telescopic Mascara is where it’s at. For me, the mascara is all about the wand, and I happen to love the skinny wand it provides. Plus, you can purchase this mascara at virtually any grocery or drug store. Which thrills me to no end.

4) Essie Nail Polish

I think I’ve mentioned before that I am a nail polish freak. My nails and toenails are painted at all times, and as much as I love getting a manicure and pedicure, typically the painting is done by me as I’d rather not break the bank. In fact, for me it’s slightly cathartic. My favorite color right now happens to be watermelon. It’s the perfect pink summery color. But currently Essie has no lack of fun and summery colors.

5) Volcano Candle

As much as I love candles, I’m awful at remembering to light them. That is until the store Anthropologie introduced me to the Volcano candle. The aroma is both inviting and intoxicating. And oh, so addicting. This isn’t necessarily new to me, but rest assured, it will always be a favorite.

6) All Sons & Daughters Live CD

You know how sometimes a musical group sneaks up on you and surprises you with their gifts? That’s how All Sons & Daughters was to me. A few of their songs had been on our rotation at church, but it wasn’t until right before they released their new recorded live CD that I fell in love with them. It was love at first listen. If you’re looking for a new worship CD that is worth your money and one you’ll quite possibly fall in love with every song, look no further. Be blessed. Be ministered to.

7) Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I’m nearly speechless when it comes to these babies. All I can say is it might be a little taste of heaven on earth. Every other peanut butter cup pales in comparison. They’re just THAT good.

And these, my friends, are just a few of my favorite things.

What are some of your favorite things recently? I love finding new favorite things!

Something cheaper? Chobani Flip Yogurt – the blueberry with the Chia seeds & walnuts.. YUMMY… & healthy!

My Vitamix! It makes smoothies and nut butters with great ease, and I know what all the ingredients are! 😉

My Piano. This year has brought a lot of loss to our lives and our church. In those times when I have no words, I can sit at my piano and praise my Jesus for His goodness in all things.

Dry Erase sheets. They stick with static cling to the walls and help me to keep myself on task. And they are fun to write on!

Our library’s hold system. I love being able to go into the library, walk to one shelf, and leave with all the books I wanted. It really helps a mama with three littles in tow!

My 15-in stainless steel skillet. There are days it’s used for all three meals. 🙂

    JennyK says:

So fun! Essie is a love of mine as well. My favorite color at the moment is “e-nuf is e-nuf”…the perfect shade of poppy red. I’ve fallen in love with fresh, juicy Bartlett pairs (from HEB no doubt) and my sunscreen of choice this summer is Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF 30…smells like pineapple-coconut!

Happy Friday and Happy Summer 🙂

  13. 63
    Andree says:

Let me see! One of my favorite is the cream I put on my feet every night before going to bed called Penetrex. It keeps my feet from itching..HaHa!

A song from Amy Grant called “Don’t try so Hard”, boy did it speak to me. I seem to feel I have to prove myself to God so He will love me. He has told me many times I don’t need to try and love Him, he loves me no matter what. Thank goodness…

I have a favorite pen to. The Pentel, Mr Grip. Oh it feels good to write with it, it is a little fatter than most pens, but I writes really nice.

My “Correction tape” Staples brand, called OOPs!. It goes on smooth and I make mistakes and cover them up and start over. I use it a lot.

My most of the most favorite thing is not material, it is my time with God in the morning. I even get up early so I have time before I leave for work. Love being in His presence.

    Thanks for letting me share.

Andree – I love that new Amy Grant song, too. I turn it up whenever it comes on our local station. So very sweet and gentle and guides me back to what’s really important.

    Gail says:

    My favorite things:
I have a patio in the back yard (after 5 years in my home) – I built it myself
A new liner in the pool (just in time for 100 degree temps)
Being able to enjoy the patio and pool every day when I get home from working in an office all day (I love the sunshine – it feels like God’s love enveloping me)

  15. 65
    Sharon says:

Thank you for sharing! Cannot wait to try that mascera.
I use Maybaline’s Falsies mascera and get asked what I use often as well.
G.T. Dave’s Kombucha. It is a fermented probiotic dink. Awesome.
    Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs.
HEB’s lavender and jasmine dish washing soap almost makes washing dishes therapeutic!
One more HEB item you have to try is their tomatillo salsa in the little cans. Mix it with some cream cheese and you have an easy yet heavenly chip dip that everyone will love you for! My husband cannot live without it. You could use any brand of tomatillo salsa for those of you not near an HEB.
Current fav album…The Reckoning by Need to Breathe.
Thank you again! Cannot wait to get some new pens!

  16. 66
    Rachel says:

My husband and I just turned off our cable and switched to Netflix. I have been obsessing over the new shows I’ve discovered. We love “Hart of Dixie,” and I have been begging everyone I know to watch it so I can talk about it with other people.

  17. 67

I’m not good at restraint but I will try to keep it just a small list. 1. Great Grains cereal (so good with milk or with Dannon Lite Yogurt) 2. OPI nail polish (not good with polish on my nails but MUST have toes covered at all times) 3. PilotWOW! pens (I also am obsessive about pens AND it must be the right one) 4. Give me chocolate in almost any form (I will be the happiest camper all round).
    5. The Bible (in any translation-I even have it on my Kindle and KindleFire where I can take it with me everywhere)

    Linda Miller says:

One of my favorite things is sunscreen. I usually wear it year round on my face and neck. But when May hits and we are wearing less clothing, working in the yard and swimming at the neighborhood pool I lather my family up. The fragrance speaks of summer in the south and brings back sweet summertime memories. I work full time now and my “breaks” are few and far between. But in the evening after my daughter has spent the day at the pool and has had her bath, I can catch a faint hint of sunscreen on her.

We both love the Essie Watermelon color for our toes also!

  21. 71
    Colette says:

I love anything from Trader Joes!!! The Quinoa and Black Bean Chips are so good ( AND healthy too!) And Lindsee have you tried their Kettle Corn Cookies!!! Oh my gosh!!! 🙂 If you love kettle corn then you must try them! Also I LOVE Pearitin by Loma for my hair! It smells so good and keeps your hair so shiny!
Your watermelon nail polish reminded how much I love summer so I can eat lots of watermelon!!!
And I am in need of mascara so I will try your favorite!! My sons is also a pen geek!! I told him about your favorite pen and he said he loves to just stand in the pen aisle and just look at all the pens!!! Haha! We will have to try yours!!
Thanks for the fun post! Took my mind off of the crazy stuff going on in my life and reminded me of the fun things!

    • 71.1
      Lindsee says:

Colette, I’ve not tried their kettle corn cookies. Although not a really a huge fan of kettle corn, their kettle corn is the most addicting thing EVER. So good!

  22. 72
    Julie says:

Beth, I am stunned you’ve gone away from Lancome Definicils mascara! I remember that from your last favs! I have moved from Definicils to Hypnose Drama. Makes your lashes big like Texas! I want to tell Big Mama she won’t need that eyelash curler with this stuff!!

Which brings me to another favorite of mine lately: the Big Mama blog, which I follow faithfully along with yours, Mama Beth! Love the wonderful sense of humor you both have!! Makes me feel like I’m hangin’ with my family!

I have also developed a deep affection for the popcorn at the Bower Shankland Legion baseball field in Alliance, NE, where I spend most of my nights this summer. I know, this is not somthing you can readily go out and buy, but I’m telling you it is somethin’!

I am also in love with Spotify. Are you kidding me? Listen to any song I want, any time I want, for FREE?! I came into the world too soon….and I’m heading there now to listen to “All Sons and Daughters…”

    • 72.1
      Lindsee says:

Julie, Just to clarify so you’re not totally stunned, I (Lindsee) actually wrote this post. So Loreal is the mascara I use. Grin. But maybe Beth will share hers as well. Enjoy All Sons and Daughters!

  23. 73
    Connie says:

I love anything Burt’s Bees! I love their shampoo most of all. It leaves the hair so healthy! It also shines! I love the lotion. Granted most of Burt’s Bees products really don’t smell all that good, but they work!

  24. 74
    Hannah says:

I’m so glad you posted this today Lindsee, because I’m having this mental confusion as to how to love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, without being a total hermit or over-spiritualizing everything. We are stuck here in our bodies on earth for a while, after all. I think he wants us to enjoy it! But I also feel like I’m betraying him when I get obsessive over things (or even just spend some time on something fun), and maybe I do go too far and get too distracted, but I always try to bring it back to him. If that makes sense. Really bothering me!!

What I’m obsessed with recently, but can’t have yet, are parakeets. They are so adorable, AND I shouldn’t be allergic to them.

Also really enjoying the new iPad I won (wow!).

And enjoying considering whether to grow my hair longer or cut it short and do the Locks of Love thing now.

    • 74.1
      Maureen F. says:

Hannah – I was debating with my hair because it didn’t seem quite long enough for Locks of Love but I chopped it off! I love love love how it looks short, and it feels fantastic for summer! It doesn’t quite go in a ponytail, but it’s short enough that it doesn’t bother me. And it’s even better helping someone who can’t grow their own hair. Go for it!

      • Hannah says:

Thanks Maureen! I bet you look great! I have always loved short hair because it’s so cute and so simple 🙂 Thanks for the encouragement.

  25. 75
    Alicia Keswani says:

    1. Blistex Five Star Lip Protector – I’m on my second stick and I am obsessed! I apply chap stick cooooonstantly throughout the day. This little gem doesn’t gum up or feel sticky or make your lips feel flakey/dry when it comes off.

    2. Bluetooth device for my phone – I used to think these things were ridiculous until I began working at a place that requires a 30-45 minute commute. I don’t like holding the phone while driving 70mph with cars all around me … so this allows me to catch up with some dear friends while keeping both hands on the wheel!

    3. My super-swanky teal dress – my mother in law bought this ah-mah-za-zing teal dress for me as a gift last year…I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet but I will get to in T-minus 26 days in INDIA for a WEDDING! Can’t wait.

That’s all I can think of for now. I’m sure there’s more 🙂

    • 75.1
      Eden J says:

Oh wow! I have always wanted to go to India and also to an Indian wedding! I hope you have a wonderful time in your swanky dress Alicia! 🙂

    1. I LOVE finding fabulous lists like this on this blog!
    2. Random Picture Day is also a favorite… like when you dump all the fab pics off of your phone! Please practice that more often!!!
    3. Plackers (micro mint) flossers. OBSESSED!
    4. Perennials. Oh. My. Green Goodness. I am so thankful for my garden. It is my on-site sanctuary!
    5. American flags. I just love this time of year when Pottery Barn and Target have all the festive things on display. Love me some red, white and blue!
    6. McDonald’s dipped cone. Nothing better.
    7. Morroccan Oil. I have naturally curly hair. And, I live in a frizz zone. Unless I am puposefully rocking the big hair, this stuff is amazing.
    8. insight.org. Ok, so it’s a totally different site. But, its still Jesus all day long!
    9. L’Oreal Voluminous mascara. Gotta love those L’Oreal lashes!!!!!!
    10. Southern Living magazine. Ok, girls. I live north of the Ohio river. I know I must bloom where I am planted. However, I think I missed a really good opportunity to be a southern belle. LOVE YOU ALL IN THE SOUTH! YEE HAW! Enjoy your crepe myrtles!

  27. 77
    Amy says:

Trader Joe’s dark choc. peanut butter cups – you got that right, girl!

    Some of my favorite things…

Go to morning breakfast – I prepare this on Sunday evening…1/2 c. quick oats, 1 packet Splenda, 1 tbsp. butter, and cinnamon (I keep a container of it at work). Stick the oatmeal with 1 c. water in the microwave for 1 minute and then add the rest when its out. Talk about yummo! Super healthy and super delicious!

On my music list – I heard “He Is With Us” by Love & The Outcome on the radio the other day and I have fallen in love with the husband-wife duo! I found out they are touring with Chris August and Royal Taylor for a few free shows. Let’s just say I’ll be finding the nearest location!

Target’s Fragrance Soy Candle – Try the Sicilian Orange!

And finally – Living Proof’s Blog. Seriously, I check it everyday!

Love you all. Thank you for providing encouragement, inspiration, and fun!

    Amy

Just to clarify my first favorite: I prepare baggies with all the ingredients for the week and every morning I take a baggie to work and cook it there!

    Candice says:

YES to Essie! For me- Trader Joe’s Roasted Coconut Chips. SO GOOD. Also, I just really love my Nook. That’s nut a new thing, but I am obsessed with the instant gratification it gives me when I want to read a book!

  29. 79
    Valerie says:

Trader Joes coconut body butter. It’s only about 5 bucks and has no icky stuff in it. My hubby tells me I smell like a cookie. I love that.

Pentel Energel Pens in purple. I am a leftie and the ink doesn’t smear, it dries quick. I use either the purple or green for bible studies, but only one color for the whole thing!

Loreal double extend mascara. It doesn’t flake at all and comes off with water at the end of the day. Even in the summer sun. It is the best, but takes a little reading how to get it right. The white coat goes on first-dont let it dry- and apply the black. Build it up to where you like it before it dries. Once it is dry you cant add more. It is a “tube” mascara and your lashes are encased. The tubes come off all at once with water. Love love love

Summer fruit, the kind you eat. Apricots Cantalope Cherries. Yum

Orly nail polish in Rage-kind of a metallic taupe/gold color. I usually wear a pin/red/orangey color family-so this was new to me and I love it. It also is really long wearing.

Microwave popcorn that you make in a bowl without any gunky stuff. Bought the bowl at target. Then I melt 1 TBL butter and mix with Kernal Seasons Buffalo wing popcorn seasoning. Favorite salty snack. Whole grain.

  30. 80
    Kay says:

    5. My HOBO wallet
    6. My new Korks sandals
    7. Traveling

    1. Diane Gilman (DG2) jeans – hip, fashionable, cute and super comfortable jeans for (ahem) middle aged women. Younger girls love them too!
    2. Anything pink
    3. I am picky about pens too – love Pentel’s EnerGel Pen. They have a special edition one which helps support breast cancer research and it is (you guessed it!) pink! Love the way it writes
    4. Hydrangeas and peonies – can’t decide which I love more
    5. Anything Travis Cottrell – that man can sing!

  32. 82

    Have a great weekend!!

My current favorite things are (in no particular order):
Iced Coffee (made at home by me)
Mangoes (just discovered them and now have two a day)

    1. I am obsessed with pens. Must have an extra fine point and comes in a variety of colors. I have over 20 different color of pens in my purse right now :). My motto is: The only thing in life I have control over is what color of pen I get to write with each day:)
    2. My 13 year old daughter’s laughter and wisdom…
    3. Golden doodles
    4. Sonic turtle cake with ice cream….the best
    5. Purses

Reading about HEB brings a smile to my face…when I was 13, I lived with my grandmother, aunt and uncle in San Antonio and of course, shopped at HEB (and the commissary). My uncle, who is filipino, would pronounce it ETCH-EH-BEH. Fond memory.

    My favorite things:
    1. The now discontinued (I feel previous poster Michele’s angst) Almay liquid eyeliner pen that I can only find on Amazon now if I was willing to pay $14.95 s/h…for something that would fit in an envelope 🙁

    2. Toll House Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches – the really expensive, labeled for individual retail sale kind.

    3. French tip toenails

    4. My Colton Dixon | Messenger CD (only because I have worn all of my Travis Cottrell ones out)

    5. Jamberry Nail Wraps (no, I am not a consultant and I do not play one on TV). Such a fun way to wear a fancy manicure in less time than it takes to apply polish!

    My favorite things:
1.Mary Kay. In a duel between Loreal Telescopic and Mary Kay Lash Love, MK wins hands down. Every time. I’m sorry.

    Lindsee,

Those peanut butter cups are the bomb! I like to get the milk chocolate ones and I get them every time I can make it to a Trader Joe’s; we don’t have one near us. :/

I’m going to try the mascara!

    Some of my favorites:

    Purple Pentel RSVP pen

    My car…Ford Flex

    Spending time with my hubby

Doing sound for worship at my church

    Pandora

    The Amazing Race

Not necessarily in this order… 🙂

THIS BLOG! I have fallen in love with it since a friend asked me to do SSMT with her. I love little posts like this – and you never know when talking about everyday things with friends/co-workers will lead to an opportunity to talk about God’s love!

Sadly, I no longer live in Texas and I miss HEB soooooo much. That whole store is one of my favorite things ever. Here are some more:

    1. I love pens but as a poor starving grad student I usually just use cheap ones. BUT the other day I was at staples buying ink, and had a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $25 or more. Well the ink only cost $24.99, so the coupon was no good unless I bought something else. I grabbed a pen from the stand on the counter and I love it!!! Pilot G-2 – sadly almost out of ink – may have to splurge 🙂

    2. Smoothie maker that we got from Wal-Mart for 20 bucks, it’s like a Magic Bullet thing but GM brand so it was way cheaper and it works fantastic!

    3. CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain – I hardly ever wear makeup but I discovered this before our wedding last year. My husband does not like to kiss me when I have “stuff” on my lips, but this does not come off so it’s ok! <3

    4. On the subject of the hubby – I love when he's in a really sweet mood and says adorable things. We don't have a Dairy Queen in our town but there's one on the way to the airport so I suggested he go after he dropped me off for a trip. His reply: "What fun is eating blizzards without you?" Love.

    5. Brookside Dark Chocolate Pomegrante pieces. They are amazing little spheres of deliciousness!!!

    6. The western screech owls outside our apartment some evenings 🙂

    7. Duck Dynasty. 'Nuf said.

    8. Audiobooks that I can borrow fo' FREE from the library and listen to via my ipod in my radio-less work truck.

    9. Private Selection (Kroger brand) Cookies and Creme ice cream. Yes, Blue Bell is good, so is Creamy Creations, but – (please don't kill me y'all) – this is even better!

    10. "The Good Girl's Guide to Great Sex" by Sheila Wray Gregoire. A beautiful Christian book on a topic that most of us shy away from. But if you are married or engaged and have not read it, please go buy it now! It is fun to read and so focused on God's will for us. It will change your life. If you are single – wait! But when you do get engaged some day, read this for a great start to your marriage 🙂

Thank you Lindsee! I needed this blog 🙂

    3. Smartfood White Cheddar organic popcorn.
    4. WEDGES.
    5. New journals.

Village farms sinfully sweet Campari tomatos. They taste garden fresh and delicious year round. I get them at Sam’s, but they are also in regular grocery stores.

Look at the small print for where they are grown..Marfa, Texas, or maybe somewhere else..but the Marfa ones taste a little better than the Ohio ones.
And when you have time, google them and go to their website and see how they are grown.
I tell everybody within earshot about them when I’m at Sam’s. I also tell the checkout lady……everyone needs to know about them.

Oooh Aaaah! I love all these favorites and makes me want to try them! Mine:
    1. Covergirl LipSlicks tinted gloss in Hipster (which is funny because I am NOT a hipster kinda gal in my summer mom wardrobe of capri’s and plain t-shirts). I am scared it will be discontinued, too!
    2. Playing Words with Friends with a few key long-distance friends. Makes me miss them a little less.
    3. Making coffee for my husband, hot tea for me, and then sitting in bed first thing in the morning with our beverages.
    4. My Keens shoes that have literally been all over the world and really need to be replaced. They are my friends.
    5. My cavanese doggie with her silly monkey face and bad sock-stealing habits.
