So, who are we, everybody?

Saturday morning update: OH MY WORD, YOU GUYS! THIS TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS EVER ON THIS BLOG! SO MUCH FUN! You guys are incredibly interesting. I am knocked out right now with a sense of awe that God would allow me to interact with you. I have tons of respect for you guys. Keep doing the thing and keep resisting the cookie cutter despite the (Christian??) social pressure. You are much more interesting this way. Just hold close to Jesus and don’t let being different become it’s own pretense or attention-getter. Keep that gorgeous authenticity that makes this community my favorite cyber spot on earth. Good grief, I am so thankful for y’all.

Hey, everybody! It’s been a long time since we’ve done a survey to see who God has brought together to form this sisterhood. It’s a blast not only to behold our common bonds in Christ but to revel in our diversity as a community of very different people committed to one glorious Savior. We’d be bored stiff if we only opened our hearts and lives to those who are just like us. If we have to line up exactly on about 100 points of doctrine, we are liable to get pretty lonely. We don’t even necessarily have to work out a difference to our mutual satisfaction to treat one another with mutual esteem and to honestly love one another. Always preferring someone remarkably similar across the table from us still smells a lot like Narcissus. We may even be fooling ourselves but, at the end of the day, it’s just another form of mirror gazing. Gross.

When I get to see a group of you out there after a Living Proof Live, I always wish I could freeze the moment and stare at each of you one by one. It is the most incredibly refreshing sight. You cannot fathom how different we look in person, all banded together in a holy huddle. It makes me so dang happy. It is clear in that context that we were drawn together by something so far removed from packaging. You and I know that is Jesus. Oh, how I pray that God smiles when He drops in on this community, holds time tightly in His hand, and stares at each of us one by one.

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:11-12

OK! What do you say we do a survey? Complete each of the following as succinctly as possible. Lindsee and I will LOVE bringing these in. Let’s do this today for the pure Jesus-joy of celebrating community!

1. Your name and where you live.

2. Your age or general age grouping (grin)

3. When did you accept Jesus as your personal Savior and, in briefest possible terms, what was the setting?

4. What line of work are you in? Or, if you’re in school, tell us where and what line of work you’re steering toward. (Do not hesitate to tell us you’re a stay-at-home-mom. No harder work exists nor longer hours.)

5. What is your #1 hobby?

6. Are you currently invested in a local body of believers? If so, which one?

7. Do you have pets? If so, you surely know we’ve got to know what kind.

8. Your biggest recent disappointment – slash – your biggest recent elation.

9. Describe your idea of the perfect Saturday.

10 Complete this sentence: Only people who really know me realize that I am ___________________________________________________________________.

    Naomi Whitaker says:

    Naomi Whitaker, Edmond, OK

    Age 45

Being a pastor’s daughter, I just had to have Christ as soon as possible, and I was blessed to fully understand when I was 4, so that’s when I asked Him into my heart.

I am mostly a stay-at-home mom, but I work part-time as a bookkeeper for my friend who bakes wedding cakes.

My #1 hobby is gardening, although fibromyalgia has put a big crimp in the amount I can get done.

I love to serve at my beloved church, Lifechurch.tv, Oklahoma City Campus.

We have an American Pit Bull Terrier, named Jasmine, who we rescued from the shelter. She is the sweetest and smartest pet we’ve ever owned, yes even more than our German Shepherd and Poodle in the past. We are pleasantly surprised by her everyday and love her deeply. I do count her as one of my children.

My biggest disappointment in life has been not completing my Business degree in college. I had to stop attending due to physical ailments, along with pregnancy, a full-time job, etc. However, my biggest elation is that the Lord has shown me His purpose in that. He placed a halt to it because He wanted to bring me down another path that would lead me to HIS purpose and plan for me that He started showing me when I was only 5, and has revealed more continuously over the years. Looking back, I see why He placed me in the places and with the people that I was with in order to use me where I am today and in the future. It’s ALL God, and I love to share it! God is so good all the time!!!!

My perfect Saturday would be to have the energy and strength to cook a full breakfast for my family consisting of pancakes, omelettes, bacon, biscuits and gravy, and fruit. Then I’d like to spend some time gardening with my daughter, Rachael, go to lunch and church with the family (we have services on Saturdays and Sundays), and spend the rest of the day relaxing with family and friends who come to visit.

Only people who really know me realize that I am so floored by what the Lord is doing for me and how much I feel so inadequate to fill the shoes God has shown me to fill. I still deal sometimes with the enemy’s discouraging words that I’m learning to capture and throw back God’s promises from the Bible. Thanks, so much, Beth for your bible studies, in which I’ve not only gained so much strength, encouragement, and growth, but I get to share in your ministry by hosting a women’s LifeGroup that is SO blessed to sit under your teachings. We love you so incredibly much!!! We are limiting our studies for now to yours, with “Stepping Up” being the current one. We are absolutely loving it, as we did all the others.

Thank you so much for ALL you do in teaching love and transparency in the body of Christ, Beth. I pray that you and your ministry will only continue to grow in breadth and depth. So glad I get to call you my sister, even though I am Asian, hehehe!!! Although I wouldn’t look right with it, I love your blonde hair that you say you’re actually blonder than! 😉

God Bless You, Your Family, and Ministry!!!

Love and Hugs from my LifeGroup and me, Naomi Whitaker

Leah! I just laughed out loud. Girl, going doing the escalator CAN be quite intimidating. I hate going up or down a BROKEN escalator. It makes me all dizzy and stuff! Thanks for sharing.

    • 128.2

Leah, Escalators get me, too. Not gripped with fear, but I do stand there and hesitate a moment before waiting for a good step to hop on to come along… I think the warning signs do not help. When I was five, my daddy took our family to Texas Stadium for a Cowboys game. It was very cold and our seats were high in the dome. He bought me popcorn and a Pepsi and I had little gloved hands full of popcorn and soda so I had no hand to hold onto the rail of the escalator as we went up. I went over backwards on the escalator and have had a healthy fear of them ever since… My dad caught me before I actually fell, but my popcorn and soda were all gone. I was so frightened and disappointed. I’m with you – I prefer elevators or better yet, stairs. 🙂

      Blessings,

      Janice,

When I read your response about your disappointments/losses – my heart went out to you. Our extended family went through a similar season surrounding the death of my son seven years ago. We had more than ten deaths in our family over a two and a half year period. It wrecked us, but like you our faith and our God got us through it all. Praying for you tonight. Bless you sweet sister and may the Lord bring you to a place of sweet peace in the midst of your storm as He comforts you in your grief.

      bless you,
      Michelle
