Siesta Scripture Memory Team Celebration 2012

[tminus t=”20-01-2012 19:00:00″ style=”carbonite”/] **Siesta Celebration is January 20-21, 2012**

Ladies! We’re only a few days away from welcoming you to the great (and large, mind you) city of Houston. To say we’re all pumped and scurrying around would be an understatement. We’re all so ready to see y’all!

A lot of you have been asking for details as far as schedule is concerned, and also some recommendations of some good restaurants to eat at, where you can shop and what in the world can you do in Houston for an entire weekend? Before our first SSMT, Amanda wrote a really informative post about all things Houston, so I’m going to rip a few things off of that post and add some more. At the end of this post, you might be tired of hearing all about Houston!

Don’t let the words “winter season” fool you. Houston tends to have a mind of its own. Those of you coming from snow will be pleasantly surprised to get a break from the bitter cold! It can be a little chilly inside the church, so you may want to layer up, or bring a light sweater. And if you’re stressed about packing, we encourage casual! Jeans are great!

Friday:
Partly Sunny
High – 75
Low – 58
Rain – 10%

Saturday:
Partly Sunny
High – 75
Low – 60
Rain – 10%

Sunday:
Cloudy
High – 76
Low – 64
Rain – 20%

So you can plan accordingly, here is the celebration schedule:

Friday:
5pm Check-In opens
6pm Doors open to Worship Center
7pm Celebration begins
10pm Evening concludes

Saturday:
8am Continental breakfast available
9am Celebration begins
12pm Celebration concludes…go eat lunch with new friends, shop & have fun!

Location is key, and Houston’s First Baptist Church, where we’ll have our celebration is located near a lot of great restaurants and endless entertainment. There are no official plans that have been made as far as meet-ups are concerned that I know about, but I have no doubt, especially if you’re traveling alone, that you can hook up with a group of Siestas who might have their weekend planned out.

If you are a smart phone owner (iPhone, Android, etc…) one thing that might be very helpful to you is an app called “Urbanspoon”. It is an app that lists all of the restaurants near you, customer reviews for that specific restaurant, and an address that you can paste in your GPS. It is a free app and we would strongly encourage you to use it! Just consider it your personal assistant for the weekend.

The Galleria, which is about four miles from the church (I know that sounds far, but it’s really close), can provide you with most anything you need, great food, great shopping and great people watching, if that’s your sort of thing. Around the Galleria you can find pretty much any type of food your heart desires.

Some of you have asked about a great spa, and one we would recommend, though it is pricey, would be The Trellis at the Houstonian. http://trellisspa.com/

One thing you can be sure to encounter is Houston traffic, especially on Friday afternoon and evening. Welcome!

Another thing to remember as you’re packing is your spirals full of your scriptures. It’s your ticket in!

And last but not least, if you’re on twitter, let’s get our hashtag party going. We’ll use: #SSMTC just for fun!

We hope this was of some help and assistance to you! Here is the link to FAQ page one more time should you have any more questions.

We are giddy with excitement and cannot wait to see your pretty faces in just three days! We love y’all!

    Precious Siesta Francis!! (From France)
I am so honored to have met you just a little while ago on the phone!!! Thank you soo much for calling me today. After God blessing me to watch the live stream today, your phone call was God’s personal blessing to me reminding me I am not forgotten. Bless you sister and I look forward to Lord willing many more conversations with you.
Love your sister in Christ Jesus,
    April Lopez

      Françoise from France says:

      Hello dear Siesta April,
You had such an inspiration to put your phone number on the LPM blog! Otherwise I would not have been able to call you, even from 9 time zones away. I am so sorry you – like many others – couldn’t attend the celebration in Houston because of the weather in the North West. I wish I could have seen the livestream! Even if I didn’t write at the time, I followed the one Beth did about prayer.
I have done most of Beth’s Bible studies, either in Jackson, TN, where our son and family live or in France where Daniel, my husband, and I are right now. With a few friends who speak English we are currently doing “Esther”.
I enjoy reading the wonderful things Beth has to say (your teaching is absolutely “out of this world”…), Amanda and Melissa when they come in, what you share Lindsee and all of you dear Siestas who write on the blog. Even if we are scattered all over North America and the earth, we all belong to God’s family, and what a blessing it is!
Thanks so much April for responding so warmly. I hope we can continue sharing by email or phone.
Love in Jesus to all of you!

Françoise/Frances/Fran or Francisca (we were missionaries in Ecuador for 17 years , so this is my Spanish name).

Thank you so very much for including those of us that could not make it to Houston, for the simulcast of the Siesta Scripture Memory Team Celebration! It was really fun to get to feel like I was participating. And, the message and worship were great! My husband and I lead a Bible study for international students on Friday nights, so I only watched this morning, but loved every minute of it. Maybe in two years, I’ll make it to Houston for the next one.

    cj says:

I realize the whole purpose of the SSMT Celebration was to be in Houston in person to celebrate, but with the numbers you had participating online, a simulcast could have worked alongside. I read the activity on Twitter Friday and know you included a simulcast for some this time (don’t know if you have done this for previous celebrations or not). It got me thinking that this community is full of those that can’t attend the actual celebration (weren’t there over 1000 that participated this year), so why not have a simulcast…and plan it from the very beginning? Why not let everyone in on the celebration? That’s a whole lot of work from around the globe, but not full participation is allowed from around the globe. Something to think about next time and maybe plan and change the strategy just a bit to accommodate for those better?

Beth, you have grown beyond the Houston boundary. I guess we all need to grow online like you have to this point. the videos and simulcasts you do are huge for this ministry…using these social media for such events is a cool feature of this community. Not too many faith-based communities have such an opportunity as this.

I hope you have considered doing your Tuesday night bible studies with a simulcast as well. Your attendance might be off the charts!! Again, just something to consider as you plan events with these social media tools in mind. The more I think about this, the more I am convinced this would be a cool idea…to simulcast more of your events to the whole community instead of those “confined” to the Houston area.

      Gretchen says:

      Hi, CJ,

Just wondered if you were able to see the Friday night lesson — it included the beginning of the acrostic WALKING. The W stood for “We are all starved for some face to face.” I know I am! There were some sacrifices made to get to Houston, but well worth it and I’m so glad they gave us a year to prepare for it.

I do hear your point, but honestly, I’m glad this was not available online — I would have missed so much! Nothing can replace the face to face time I had meeting and talking to people I probably would never have met if this event (and others like it) were available on line. I will remember those two days for the rest of my life. God did a supernatural work as a direct result of my being there in person.

I hope to meet you at the next celebration! 🙂

      Blessings to you,

      Gretchen

    Becky says:

Hi – I so wish I could have come this time. I was there for the first celebration and made it part way through this year with memorizing. I filled my spiral (specially ordered for Christmas last year!) through December and am determined to commit the rest of the verses to memory in the next few months. I was wondering if you could post a video of the messages from this weekend for us to see.
I know your time with Him and each other was sweet!

    Suzan, Beckley WV says:

Thank you so much for the simulcast. It was much needed in my life and I praise our Father that I could watch, listen and learn. God had a fresh word for me. Praise Him greatly!

    Debbie from Virginia says:

I am so thankful for the opportunity to memeorize these verses and so sad that I won’t be able to make it to the SSMT celebration.

Thank you LP for all of your hard work to put this all together.

  7. 107
    Virginia says:

I so wish I could have been there. I have to admit, partly because in Nebraska we had blizzards! I would have loved 75 degrees. Ahhhhhhhh bliss and heaven.

  8. 108
    Kristina Foster says:

I hope ‘you’ (someone at LPM) will see this since I am posting ‘after’ the event. And, I’m going to be rather out of character for myself and get ‘wordy’ (I’m generally a woman of few words)….

“WOW”–in full-Beth style (‘W’ fingers/mouth open). That’s all I can say. What an amazing weekend experience!! I’m sooooo glad I made the commitment, and the effort to be able to attend the SSMT Celebration. I’m a changed woman. I came home to Kansas, got my anger on and pushed back on that devil and told him I was reclaiming MY ground–being much more demonstrative than my norm and ‘acting out’ what Beth did on Friday (I even raised my voice some ;-). I truly feel alive again. Feelings/emotion are sometimes hard for me. I grew up in a Christian household where there was LOVE and support, and overall a great atmosphere. However, we were also pretty ‘level-headed’ (for lack of a better description). I learned/had demonstrated for me that emotions are pretty stable (nature AND nuture, it’s my personality)–you can be excited or down, and that may not look so different. Then, I further learned to control my emotions working for 10 years caring for children with cancer. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t have ice in my veins. I cried with plenty of patients/families, but there is a time and a place for that. And as horrible as it was to look someone in the eyes and tell them that their precious infant, child, teen, etc had cancer was not the time to be an emotional mess. We had to show them the way–explain the facts of diagnosis, treatment, how we would be there to support them, teach them what to expect and how to help care for their child….. I learned to be VERY in control of my emotions. It makes me feel sometimes like a robot. So, I welcome situations that help me ‘lose control’ so to speak, and God broke me this weekend through your messages Beth. I so needed that Word delivered at this time, and you speak to my soul like no other teacher ever has (and I’ve been in church my entire life). I wept many times throughout the weekend, and it seemed like most of the day Saturday–from your opening prayer, through the worship at the end, and even in the rental car leaving, recapping the day with my friend, and again now as I remember it…. I particularly needed to be reminded that our spiritual walk has to flow from head to heart through our feet. I believe that I’ve been living quite awhile with the head knowledge since I’ve been around the church forever. And, then, for the most part ‘walking’ it out, but again, rather like a robot–just habit. BUT, I have been missing the heart part–I just haven’t been ‘feeling’ it lately and could totally relate with understanding that I had lost way too much ground (All I’ve worked for can be lost). It felt a little like a damn bursting to be able to feel again this weekend. Praying to be ‘WALKING’ closer to Him each day, already bought a ticket for your KC Living Proof date in April, and already making plans to be at the next SSMT…..
Much love to you all for your ministry and efforts,
    One Eklekte Kuria,
    Kristi

Good morning Siestas! I was thinking of you this morning! I think this is for us: Deuteronomy 31:6, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them! For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you!”
    March on Girls! March on!!!!

    Karene says:

Hi, I keep reading about a livestream that so many were able to watch. I had completed all my verses, but was unable to fly to Houston due to lack of finances. I so wish I could have watched it too, but I never saw any info about it. Is there ANY way there could be a link to view it???

    • 110.1
      Lindsee says:

Hi Karene, I am so sorry we missed you on the live stream. We tried to get the word out without posting it on the world wide web as best as possible. However, I do realize this means we missed a few ladies and we do apologize. I am not sure if there is a link to view it, but I will confirm that and let you know. We hope God poured out His love to you this weekend in His own way. Blessings, Sister!

      • Pat from Kansas says:

Oh shoot. I would have watched too if I had known. I kept checking here and never saw any information. I don’t have an iphone or anything like that so this is the only site I can connect on with Siestas….so Sorry I missed it. I did my verses but just couldn’t get the $$ to come.
Hope the link will be available to view. Glad those who got to Houston saw Jesus in full force!

      • Joyce says:

I also keep reading about live stream but didn’t receive the link. I posted and memorized my verses each time throughout the year. I actually learned 36 verses. If there is any way to view this after the fact, I’d appreciate it.
Thanks for all you have done in organizing the whole 2011 scripture memory. I have so much of God’s word memorized and recall it often.

      • Debbie says:

If there is a link to view it. That would be great. I had participated fully and was unable to attend as well.

        Thank you.

      • Margie by the Sea says:

Lindsee, please do. I attended two years ago, but had to work this past weekend and so could not attend and could not even watch online.
I prayed God’s blessings on all who were attending, on Beth, Travis and the team at LPM, and hope that all were blessed by His presence. My blessings come from memorizing God’s Word for the past three years and from the strength and empowerment that flow from that. Attending would have been the icing on the cake!

      • Laura K in SD says:

Lindsee, I would also be interested in viewing the SSMT celebration if a link is set up, since I guess I missed the memo as well. I had sent an email to LPM in December asking if there would be a live stream, and also had checked the blog site through-out the weekend. What else can I do for next time? Was it communicated through twitter?

I am sad that I missed it, but am trusting that my Abba Father was in control and knew what was best for me. (Sigh!)

        Thanks,
        Laura K in SD

      • Lichelle says:

Could I put in a request for the commission to be posted for us Siestas? Thanks Lindsee it was so nice to see you and you have a beautiful voice! I was blessed by hearing it on Sunday at church.

        • Lindsee says:

Hey Lichelle! I am planning to do a recap post tomorrow and I will see if we can make it available or not. So just keep your eyes on the blog! It was so nice meeting you this weekend. And thank you for your sweet words. Blessings!

    Marybeth says:

Hey fellow siestas who were in Houston or participated via live stream.

I did not refresh my livestream between the 2nd and 3rd session and couldn’t imagine it taking that long for you all to recite your memory verses…duh!!

By the time I figured it out…Beth was saying..ok…”G” stands for…!!!!!! OH NO…I have W-A-L-K-I-…G!!

Any fellow notetakers care to share what “N” stood for and any points that stuck out to you. I welcome several perspectives as it’s neat to see the things that stick out to each one of us.

Thank you LPM. This was water to my thirsty soul!!

Hi Marybeth! N = Never forget the ploy to infiltrate. In my notes, under that statement I wrote, “Christ came to flesh out God. We came to flesh out Christ.” I hope that is helpful. Blessings!

    Tami Fite says:

So very sad about learning there was a live stream for the weekend. I was scheduled to go, but b/c of health reasons with my friend, I was unable to financially attend. I kept checking the web site to see if there was anything that I could watch on line, but there was never any updates. I don’t have facebook and I don’t have twitter, so am feeling really bummed about the lack of knowledge for the live stream. It seems unfair for those of us that are not on facebook or twitter to have not known. Was there some other way besides this blog that we could have known about it? Just wondering as it sounds like an absolutely wonderful weekend.

    • 112.1
      Lindsee says:

Hi Tami, I am so sorry you never received any information about the live stream. We never posted it online, only sent out an email about it to those we heard from that weren’t coming. We do realize this means we missed a few ladies and we are so sorry. We are learning so thank you so much for being patient and gracious with us. If it is ever made available in any way, we will let you know. You are loved here! Blessings, Sister.

    Valerie Robertson says:

WOW is all I can say. God went beyond beyond this weekend. I am so thoroughly blessed, I can hardly express it! Thank you to all the Living Proof staff for all you did to make this weekend so special. Thank you to Beth, Travis and team for such inspiring Word and worship. Thank you Curtis and Amanda Jones for an amazing service at BCF yesterday morning. Thank you God for your Holy Spirit and His help as I walk this thing out – even in my own house. Thank you Beth for praying for me yesterday. I know my marriage will be blessed by it. I am remaining strong and getting my courage back!! Hope you enjoy the scarf. Much love to you. Oh, and Lindsee, you are such a doll!! Didn’t realize you were a singer too. You are the whole package, siesta sister!! Sorry I didn’t get to personally meet you. Maybe in two years, Lord willin’. 🙂

    Julie Reynolds says:

A huge THANK YOU to the whole LPM team for a wonderful weekend. I am so full, I kept telling my friend all weekend that I was overwhelmed with God’s sweetness to us – to just overflow us with His presence in such a way. The WORD we received this weekend was amazing and so timely! Words just cant say how much I appreciate all you did to make our time in Houston so special. To all the Siesta’s I met from Yanni(who gives great hugs by the way) to Beckyjo (who brings a party wherever she is)and all those in between – I love you sisters and I am so thankful to be a part of this community – LETS MARCH OUT AND DO THIS THING!!! Praying we all continue to reclaim the ground that belongs to us!

To Beth,Amanda,Melissa and the whole LPM Ministry Team – “As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. And THEY WILL PRAY for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you.” 2Co.9:13-14 NLT

    Cheri B, Fresno, CA says:

I was one of those who couldn’t make it but had the double disappointment of not being able to make the livestream work! I could see Beth – and all of you lovely ladies who did make it, but could only hear in a whispered echo any voices. 🙁 Tried to reach on 2 computers and my laptop but got the same at each. Looked like it was great, but I was just dying to HEAR. Oh well – maybe next time I’ll just be there in person.

  16. 116
    Penny says:

I never imagined that this would be a place where some would be chosen and some not. I understand the logistics of the situation, and the complications, but do you understand the disappointment of those who were not deemed important enough to be in on the livestreaming? I may be the only one expressing this in writing, but I am not the only one feeling left out.

    • 116.1
      Lindsee says:

Penny, I am so sorry you feel left out and disappointed. Please understand that it was not intentional in the least bit. We tried to get the word out as best as possible without posting it online, but we do realize that a few siestas who finished the challenge missed out. We do apologize for that and we are learning, so thank you so much for being patient and gracious with us! Each of you are very important to us and we love you the same. If the recording are ever made available, we will let you know. Blessings, Sister!

I hope you are planning to provide links to others’ pages like you did the first time. I noticed those links did not survive the website move to word press. As I recall, that was an impressive list of others’ links that provided a real insider look to the celebration for those of us that could not attend.

My friend and I flew back to Iowa last night with our Houston soil, and I got up this morning determined to take back lost ground. This meant putting in God’s hands what I had been trying to do on my own. God has blessed my day, filling my heart with courage with victory after victory. I confronted people that needed confronted, in love, of course, but firmly. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Good morning. Just wanted to thank you for letting me listen in on the live Siesta Sister Celebration! Loved it! I am so thankful that even though I couldn’t be there in person, I could still be a part of it. What a blessing – exactly what I needed. Wondered what to learn next. Began James study yesterday, and now I have begun memorizing the book of James. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Marsha Middleton says:

    Beth and the LPM Team;

Thank you for making it possible for those of us who completed our 24 verses but couldn’t make the celebration in Houston to celebrate in our living room with the “live-stream”. I was absolutely blessed. The message carried great truths that I needed to hear or be reminded of that the enemy had stolen. Just that fact, the enemy can’t destroy but he can steal truly awakened me. I realized how often I have gained great ground by the Spirit to then leave it unguarded and allow the enemy to come in and steal it away. So, I too am pushing back and taking the ground that belongs to me. I don’t have Houston dirt, but I will carry my Missouri dirt as a reminder! 🙂

The Siesta memory work has blessed me in a way I really can’t explain and I carry on into this new year adding a new verse every 1st and 15th. HIS Word embedded into our head, heart and feet does things that we can’t explain. Thank you Father!

Beth, I look forward to having you here in Kansas City in April. I know it will be a great blessing once again.

    Judy says:

I attended the Siesta Memory Verse celebration two years ago. When the 2011 commitment began, I invited two of my co-workers in Oklahoma to join me (I live in Houston). We completed the “requirements” and the two of them came to Houston for the Celebration! We had a wonderful time. In addition to the festivities Friday night and Saturday, we had spa treatments, shopped till we dropped, and they attended church with me at BCF. We were a few minutes late to the service Sunday morning, so we were seated on the front row, right in front of Curtis. We resisted the urge to flash Curtis the “WOW” sign 🙂

All three of us were so blessed by the celebration. We commented to each other numerous times how much we appreciated all that LPM and staff did to prepare and host the celebration. We realize that there was a lot of time, effort and expense by LPM. And there were so many people involved that help to make it the success and blessing it was — HFBC Food Service, janitors, building maintenance, technical folks, etc. Oh — and Travis and his team — double blessing!

We were blown away with all the extra and special touches. You blessed each one of us in more ways than we can name.

I so appreciate LPM and the blog. Both have helped facilitate big changes in my life.

    Thank you.

    Rutie says:

Hey LPM – I know you all worked so hard to pull off a great weekend for the Siestas who were able to make it to Houston. The last thing I would want to do is hurt anyone’s feelings since I know you all work tirelessly for this community and mistakes are bound to sometimes happen. It was disappointing to know there was the option of a live stream that some of us weren’t informed about. Is there something we could have done on our end – communication-wise, so that we would have been in the loop? I always assume your office is busy doing so many things, I don’t want to burden the staff there with emails, etc., so I limit my involvement to the blog – but if I had sent a separate email then I would have been informed about the live stream -? I’m just trying to understand how the system works. I assume there are other Siestas who are wondering the same thing. Please just let us know what we could have done on our end to have been included in the information loop.

Lindsee, you’ve responded to a couple of other commenters that, “…if the recording is ever made available, we’ll let you know.” Do I need to send a separate email to the staff and ask to be on the list of those who would like to know when it’s made available? Please let me know.

Also, the terminology “if it’s made available” makes me wonder if there are copyright provisions surrounding it. Is it difficult to make a recording like that available? It sounds confusing, though I’m sure there’s a perfectly good explanation. Thanks for your help in answering these questions. And thanks for all you do for all of us here in Siestaville. Hoping tonight’s Bible study is awesome!

    • 124.1
      Lindsee says:

Hi Rutie, no email list necessary. Whenever something is made available, you will be able to find it in the store and I suspect if we made this available we would let the Siestas know. And yes, I’m not sure of all the logistics, but there are copyright provisions. This time it was a little different since it was a live stream, and I am not sure we actually recorded it, but typically goes through a process of review and then we decide to sell it or not. I hope that is helpful. Thank you for being patient and gracious to us. We are always learning. Blessings!

Thank you so much for all the work you are doing there for LMP and for Momma Beth. The contact that you have with us here in Siestaville is HUGE and please know we are grateful for your help in bridging the gap. I too was not able to make it to the Celebration this weekend due to $$. I wasn’t sure if there was going to be an MP3 shared like the last time so I kept checking. I wasn’t able to get on here to read the comments until this morning and noticed that there was a live stream. How exciting. I was just going to say that if this (or an MP3 recording like before) is made could you post either on here or on the LPM facebook page with a link on where we can find it for those of us who missed it. That would be just awesome. I knew from about 3 months ago that I wasn’t going to be able to attend, still pressed on finishing strong with my verses and prayed that whoever could attend would be filled and blessed indeed! I am sure that God did just that and that. I pray that He still showers His many blessings on you and the Team who bless us every day. Thanks again for what you do and please pass on my thanks to the rest of our Siesta team there. We love you so dearly. I cannot imagine my life without you all!

Please know that I am not complaining but just wanted to mention in case something would be made available that I also completed the requirements and was not able to attend but did not know about the live stream. I had posted on the SSMT roll call that I could not attend, but guess that wasn’t where info was taken from to notify people. I had really hoped to be able to attend and meet some of you face-to-face but several factors kept it from being a good option at this time. I’m looking forward to seeing the recap and would love to be able to watch the sessions if that becomes a possibility.

P.S. It was a little ironic that I spent much that Saturday night decorating covers for some spirals to give out in our ladies’ Sunday School class the next morning. I was filling in to teach at the last minute, and the lesson was on how God’s promises can promote peace in our lives, so I thought those would be appropriate 🙂

WOW y’all, this weekend was AMAZING!! THANK YOU so much to the LPL staff for all you did!!! First of all, we were greeted by the nicest people who were so welcoming. Next, we got adorable bags topped with a cute pink bow and pen. THEN, we got some of the BEST cookies I have ever had (those sugar cookies…my goodness…YUM!!!) with a hot chocolate bar(you didn’t even forget the marshmallows)!! Not to mention the pictures, Siesta Scripture memory wall, GREAT teaching, and fabulous worship. AND…prizes for people who said all 24 verses!!! Y’all really went above and beyond…even live streaming for others. It was so obvious how loved you all tried to make us feel and it sure was felt! People can really see Christ’s love all over you. I came home so full! I also knew exactly what ground I had lost and needed to take back and have done it!!! Thank you for being such great hostesses and being so kind and fun. I can’t wait to do it again in two years.

I am so sorry I was unable to come to the celebration! I just want to thank ya’ll for loving us! I know that God had there who He had determined to be there and or listen to. Instead of coming I was blessed to serve a dear family in need what a blessing God had for me. Ya’ll are deeply loved and appreciated!

How awesome to have an arm-bearer who literally saw who God had called to you, even before you had a ministry. God had set you up with a Caleb. What a wonderful heartfelt tribute to someone who meant so much to your family and to your ministry.
