Fourth of July ’10

We had such a wonderful 4th of July! I hope you did, too.

Our dog Beckham shares a birthday with the U.S.A., which is ironic because he absolutely hates loud noises like thunder and fireworks. Bless his heart. Here he was trapped on the stairs by the baby gate and waiting ever so patiently to be rescued.

Our little firecracker was having a rare moment of stillness.

She loved the cowboy hat that I’d found for Saddle Ridge Ranch VBS.

Curtis and Jackson did some little fireworks in my parents’ back yard.

Fun times with smoke bombs.

Mom and Annabeth.

You might not be able to discern from these pictures how obsessed Annabeth is with her Bibby.

After a feast of fajitas, we all crammed into the Suburban and headed to Pine Forest to watch the fireworks. Doesn’t my dad look comfortable?

Dad and my Pappaw.

Jackson wore himself out on the golf course hills with my cousins.

Mom and AB with Hannah and John. They just moved home from Japan and we’re so happy!

We spent every 4th of July at Pine Forest growing up, but hadn’t been in at least 10 years. I loved getting to bring my kids this year.

Jackson and Bibby.

The fireworks were great!

It was Jackson’s happiest night. Maybe Bibby’s, too.

The look on Jackson’s face in the last photo is priceless.
It is one of those that you need no words to explain.

My husband and I ate at Gaido’s when we visited Texas because we read it on your Mom’s blog. I had the best baked potato ever! I still dream of it. hah My husband absolutely loved it too!
Tell your Mom thanks so much for the tip !

that one needs to be framed. The one of little seista with the cowboy hat I thought was adorable glad you all had a good 4th of July.

What a sweet dog you have! I love that he’s just sitting there so patiently. Our little mini-dachsund, “Kipper”, isn’t that patient, but he’s pretty sweet too.

Glad to see all the pictures and hear that you all had such a great 4th. We enjoyed ours here too. Went to Panama City Beach and watched fireworks in the rain. =).

By the way, our beaches here are still gorgeous. The good Lord has spared us thus far from any oil. So if anyone is thinking of heading this way for a vacation. “Come on down” =).

We only have about 2 weeks left to enjoy the “Emerald Coastline” before we move “north” to Tuscaloosa. But we’re excited to see what the Lord has in store for us where He’s planting us next!

We celebrated Canada Day on July 1st. Our church hosted the Watoto African Children’s Choir from Uganda. We had a town parade and the children were on the float singing and dancing to Jesus for all those who lined the street. They then put on a 45 minute concert in the town park where we had 1200 people from our community come to watch. I am so thankful we live in a country where we can sing and praise Jesus in public places. Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend.

    Hey guys,
Glad to hear you had a great 4th. We were out sitting in a parking lot watching fireworks. Someone locked their car door and so everytime one of the really loud pops the car alarm would go off. My 8 year old nephew thought it was the funniest thing in the world. He would high five his 14 year old cousin. It was just so neat to be together with family and sitting out in the unusually cool Texas weather (felt as cool as a Kansas evening)!
Great great day! Looking forward to SSBS session 2 tomorrow.
    Love,

    Dear Amanda,
Thank you for sharing your family photos. I absolutely LOVE them every time!! They bring a smile to my face. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, I have to ask since I live in Houston, too. HOW do you all look so beautiful in the pictures? I mean I know you are, but really…not a bead of sweat, not a hair out of place, no make-up melted down your face…
you all look so refreshed like you’re in Colorado with 65 degree temps with 30% humidity. I step outside for 5 minutes and look like a drowned rat…..
    I’m getting a complex… ๐Ÿ˜‰
    love ya

I love that you captured the actual fireworks in a photo! I have thee hardest time doing that….I guess I just need more pratice or maybe a tripod.

Commenting from Canada, our big day was July 1st, which is also my BFF’s Birthday, so there is more reason to celebrate.

I just wanted to say that Bibby and her girl look ever so adorable, I think AB will soon have bigger hair than her Bibby!

Jackson’s smile is so big, it warms my heart, and makes me think if he smiled anymore, his face might start to hurt!

Thanks again for sharing your pictures, looks like it was a great weekend all around.

God is so smart placing us all into families! Some are just a wee cuter than others, once the whole teenage tempermment arrives, the cuteness wears off! ha

It was an emotional time if you know what I mean.?..

I always enjoy looking at pictures of your family. Thanks for sharing. We had a different, but nonetheless, lovely 4th of July celebration beginning with sitting together at church. I love it that my married sons and their wives like to sit with us during the services and I’m even more thrilled that the four of them serve together in the special needs ministry at our church. Can a mom get much more blessed than that? No worries, I’m savoring this season. I’ve read all the comments so far, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t see any mention of a network party. My husband and son set up a computer network and we had 14 laptops linked together for one massive computer game. I loaned my laptop to the effort but didn’t participate. I happen to dearly love 5 of the gamers so it was enough for me to be where they were, watching them and enjoying the sound of their laughter. Thanks again for sharing, Amanda. Have a great week,
    Patti Hayes

What faces full of love! It was great to see your celebrations! I especially enjoyed the fireworks with my family this year at a park, too… and Jackson and Beth look entranced with joy. So sweet. Love you guys! Fireworks are just a glimpse of the majesty of that fiery chariot’s wheels, right?

    Robin says:

Beth, I just never realized how dear you are to me until today when I logged into Oneplace to listen to one of your broadcasts and I looked over at your picture and you had black make-up in the corner of your eye and I immediately reached up and scraped the dirt off of my computer screen to make sure you looked your best. When I realized what I had done I had to laugh at myself but hey a girl has to look out for her sisters!! Love ya!!!

  23. 73

Oh you are not even going to BELIEVE what I got to do last night! Last Wednesday, I had to have a procedure done that ended up not going as well as planned and it left me on my back until Sunday. BUT, on Sunday evening, I felt well enough to go to a parking lot and watch the fireworks — with FOUR of my sweet little no-mothers-in-their-lives-so-I-get-to-pretend girls — MacKenzie (age 8), Angelina (age 7), Juliana (age 4) and Olivia (age 2). Some of the college girls from my Bible study came with me to help with them and we just had the best time. It was an especially sweet night because my cousin’s fiance leaves for Iraq this Friday and we got to spend the evening watching the fireworks while the girls took turns sitting in all our laps.

There’s some things that you just like seeing through a child’s eyes, and fireworks sure are one of those things.

P.S. – I was going to try not to say anything (restraint, it is failing me), but I just want to comment that I think I’ve never seen Beth’s bangs higher than in the pictures above (I mean this as a compliment, of course). What a way to celebrate the fourth — those roots are standing at attention!

Amanda looks like she is having a good time with Saddle Ridge VBS_she doesn’t quite know what to do with that hat, does she? (so funny) She is cute.( Our church enjoyed the same theme this year too.)
Family is so important_we laugh, we cry, we share, we care, and we pray together. God has bless us with family!

My heart always just hurts when I hear brothers and sisters crying out for their loved ones who aren’t saved. I have family members who refuse, flat out. We’re believing with you that she will feel the love that Christ Jesus has for her.

      Much love sweet sister!

For the first time I can remember we sang several verses of “America the Beautiful” in my church. The more unfamiliar verses are amazing. I found them on scoutsongs.com, but there are many other sites. The second verse:
    “O beautiful for pilgrim feet
    Whose stern impassioned stress
    A thoroughfare of freedom beat
    Across the wilderness!
    America, America
    God mend thine every flaw,
    Confirm thy soul in self-control,
    Thy liberty in law!”

Your pics are totally exceptional. Amanda you and hubby have lost a ton of weight! Beth just looks like she is in Grandma world…she has amazingly incredible joy on her face when she is blessed seeing her children as parents, raising their family with wisdom and love and filling her heart with pride and cherishing things she would never miss because time flies, they aren’t in diapers forever and you can’t love them too much. Grandchildren continue to take us to places our hearts never knew were there!!!! Go Bibby!!!!!! Thx Amanda for sharing your 4th!!!

I was saddened again this year with the 4th due to a stomach virus running rapid through our home. It isn’t pleasant at all but having 9 children and dealing with it was definitely not good times. We had the exact same thing happen last year as well. So we unfortunately didn’t get to go watch fireworks or have a cookout. ๐Ÿ™ We hope to at least make the cookout up this weekend.
