Siestas Internacionales

About a month ago I was playing around with the web site that tracks statistics for our blog. It’s fun to look at even though I hardly understand what any of it means. That day I clicked on something called “Map Overlay” and proceeded to be sucked in by a map of the whole world. When I moved my cursor over a country, it showed me how many visits our blog had had from that country in a certain number of days. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The Siestas are literally all over the world. Even in countries I’ve never heard of! Praise our God! I called my mom and we discussed it in happy tears. For those of you who are joining us from outside of the U.S.A., know that you are dearly loved and remembered.

On that note, I want to give a couple of hints to the international Siestas who may be hoping to join our summer Bible study. (All the details of SSBS3 are here in case you missed it.)

If you are in Canada, David C. Cook is your LifeWay distributor. You can order your book from them here.

For everyone else, you can click here to see a list of LifeWay distributors by country. They may be able to help you get a copy of Kelly Minter’s Ruth workbook. I’m praying for God to work everything out for you.

Just for fun, here’s a list of the countries with the most visits this month.

1. United States (with 95% of our visits)

2. Canada

3. United Kingdom

4. Germany

5. Australia

6. South Africa

7. Japan

8. Netherlands

9. Singapore

10. Brazil

Thanks for letting us know this Amanda. It really tickles me to know we’re sharing, laughing, worshipping, learning and just generally being connected to such a multicultural slice of Christ’s Body. Makes you want to learn the word for Siesta in all those languages, doesn’t it?
“…and with Your blood You purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

I’m so happy to be a Siesta! I love how the blog world has connected so many of us in such an amazing way!

Amanda, I am amazed at how many people this blog world reaches and no matter how large it is, it feels like such “community” here. I copied and pasted a comment the other day for a friend of mine…. It was one from a lady who had a family member, a child with a serious illness who later passed away. I copied her comment and yours and your mom’s replies, because it struck me just how powerful this community can be. Only God!

    Gina says:

So…. any of you siestas that are sharing your amazing life stories. You are ministering to others all over the world right along side Amanda and Beth.

You feel called, yet put on a shelf. Many of you who leave comments…please be encouraged that you are being used by the Lord God. Any word or comment can change someone’s way of thinking in a moment or even change a life.

Remember…faith is believing in the unseen. He sees…that is all that matters! Small things will be greatly rewarded!
The body of Christ is incredible!
Walking in obedience on a daily basis is VERY powerful!

Oh my goodness, girl, this siesta has been to your little spot of the earth…about 20 years ago…and God called me into mission there. I have been a siesta in Kenya and England ๐Ÿ™‚ What a crazy adventure – this life with Him.

      • sepik-meri katie says:

you have?! how special! where were you at in PNG? did you love it as much as i do?! ๐Ÿ™‚

      Kathy says:

how cool indeed! it is sooo wonderful that we can make connections with missionaries all over the world -my daughter just got back to canada with her young family after serving in PNG in Wewak with Friends in Action. my missionary-minded Dad, now in Glory, would be in awe of it all as it took him months to receive a letter by boat from the many missionaries he supported. keep connecting and spreading the Beth Moore Blog. my sister serving in nigeria has trouble with internet connections and slow computers so fails to receive the support spiritually in this way. may the Lord keep you strong in Him.

      • sepik-meri katie says:

oh my word!!! that’s where i live! in wewak!! we know friends in action; they do all kinds of stuff with us (NTM)! is your daughter rachel? or were they the family before… krista and jay? that’s amazing!

        • Kathy says:

yes krista and jay and our darling grandchildren-mya 5 and twins lena and jack 3, now just 4 . the Lords family is indeed uniquely tied thru Him isn;t it. !! you are very special not only to serve over there in that heat but to serve Him in another country full-time by the sounds of it. i will tell kr of you-she isn;t on the blog(too busy) – tho she leads beth moore studies when she can. i will pray for you often-seeing a face and knowing the place helps me pray more specifically. may the Lord give you a well-deserved restful furlough.

Whoop! Our God is awesome, isn’t He? I remember during the last SSBS studies that there seemed to be some Siestas signing in from other countries, just didn’t realize how many. I know some are Americans living abroad, but not everyone–so we can see how easy it is to study His Word when we really want to. Thanks Beth, Amanda and Melissa for holding us all together and encouraging our growth.

I was married twice to my husband__once in Germany on the army base at the chapel and once in Denmark at the court house(It takes the army along time for paperwork that is why we went there; it was quicker.) Denmark is pretty place with windmills, some hills, boats and just real nice. We had some Christian friends there that are missionaries also. Hope you enjoy it…and I think you will.

We entrust her to You and Praise You for Your Promises- Amen!

      • amybxhill says:

THANK YOU for your prayer. i really want to make a Christian connection in Copenhagen as i will be spending most days alone with my 2 year old daughter (my husband will be at work). i would love to get involved in a bible study or missions work – anywhere the Spirit is moving!!! this verse (is.52:12) is going in my journal. thank you again. Lord, please bless this sweet siesta kathy for taking the time to encourage and pray for me. Let her know how special she is to You. Remind her that You see every kind act. Nothing has gone unnoticed. We love You, Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.

It’s amazing how things have changed over the years!
My dad was in the Air Force and when we lived in Okinawa there was not even a church there, but now there is.
My husband and I lived in Germany for a few years. They have a German/American church there. They also had Christian bookstores just not very many. I ordered from Christian brochures any Christian tracts or other material I needed. Also, there is a ship called Logos ship that goes around the world giving out Christian literature.
I wish computer technology had been here long ago, because I really enjoy it so much. It is always nice to have Christian friends to share with. This is so cool!
One thing I like about this website everyone is so good-hearted. Thank you for what the Lord is doing! It is always so wonderful to share from your heart.

As this three-year old boy prayed one day:
God, just do it __Just do it!

    This is so cool.

I know this is off topic, but I need some prayer from anyone willing. I am feeling just a bit depressed. I have been trying to lose weight since the beginning of the year and it is rather slow going. I just found out that my liver has some issues which they think is linked to high cholesterol. So I have to eat a low fat diet. Not to big a deal until some of my other blood work came back with higher counts than they wanted. Now I have to add a low carb. diet to the mix. Which does not leave much to eat for this picky eater. I am not sure how to do this. I fell like a rabbit with all the salads I have been eating, not to mention a bit deprived of all things yummy. I need to figure this out and I don’t want to be feeling sorry for myself. I am just so discouraged. Thanks Kim B. in AZ

      Karene says:

      Dear Kim,

I will hold you up in prayer. I feel your discouragement. Maybe you could pray for me too–I’m struggling with my weight. No medical issues, just age/metabolism and needing to exercise more now that I’m older. It’s hard, isn’t it. But I know God cares even about this!

      Take care,
      Karene in So. Calif.

      Tiffany M says:

Kim-I’ll be happy to lift this request to the throne of Grace. His mercies are new every morning and I trust by His great power that you are already feeling encouraged, just knowing He will in fact provide all your needs. I’m also thankful to Him that not only has He given you a necessary desire to lose some weight, but that the Dr’s have diagnosed these health needs before they became overly problematic. This is all very good! I’m praying for some resources to be made available to you to help you with your choices. Every good and perfect gift comes from above. Be encouraged-yes-we care about you!

      Kathy says:

look up atkins and south beach diet for those specific needs. there are menus , community to share with you, food guides for first 2 weeks and rest of life. the internet makes things so accessible. tho i hve followed them before needing to only loose about l0 lbs , i am finding this stage of my life , in 50s , the most difficult to loose the extra bit of weight cuz of surgery issues limiting my excercise ability. every day i pray for strngth and discipline from the Lord re; food so i am going to now pray daily for “kim and kathy” in this regard. the Lord is mighty – our bodies are just weak!!!(i know there is a scripture for that!!)

      • Kim says:

Thank you Karene, Tiffany M. and Kathy. Your comments are so encouraging to me. Yes I will be praying for you all.

Yeah for the UK! I am from Atlanta Georgia, USA but am serving with a missions organization here. I used to serve on staff at First Baptist Church Woodstock as their event coordinator..and it just broke my heart that I could not be there when Beth was there just recently.

But I have gotten many others hooked…and they have been blessed by Beth’s teaching. I girlfriends from Dubai, Australia, Germany, Switzerland…to name a few who are hoping to do this study! Thanks for giving a “shout out” to us International siestas!!!!

PS…any other siestas here in the UK-I live in the Norther part of the country

Hi Mary, I am from Portsmouth – right at the south of the UK. Good to see all ends covered.

We have a group of 20 plus siestas studying God’s word are are due to start ‘Living beyond yourself’ next month.

God’s word taught faithfully and passionately crosses all cultures (though it did take my very British ladies a little time to adjust to that Texan style!) –

We are all falling more in love with Jesus and his word and can’t thank our siesta mama enough.

Thanks for the heads-up, Amanda! I live in Singapore, but will be heading to Texas next week for a visit and planned to pick up my book at Lifeway there. It’s nice to still feel part of the community even though our life has taken us so far away from our family and so many of our friends. God is good, even when He calls you to a tiny dot on the map in SE Asia for an unknown period of time!!

    Hi there Amanda,
How cool is that!! I wondered if I could bother you and our precious Siesta’s around the globe to pray for this Siesta Sweet Anonymous…I have been diagnosed with a life threatening condition – on Mother’s Day of all days. The best part is I know where I am going if God decides to take me and Jesus has given me the sweetest peace I have ever known. God is also using this in such a good way as it’s given the oppurtunity to share my faith with my co-workers. They keep asking me if I’m terrified.
And I say no, instead of worrying – I am praying. I can smile and have a song in my heart because I know He holds me in the palm of His hand. Isn’t Jesus awesome!! Grin.

Take heart dear Siesta sweet anonymous! I know how your mind is swimming right now w/all the what ifs and whatabouts and what happens ifs. I encourage you to rely fully on God’s Word to minister to you-He will be as a balm to your soul. Jesus lives to intercede on our behalf and is doing so for you right this minute. As further encouragement and as a word of testimony, trust and know that absolutely nothing can happen to us until God’s appointed time- my mother-in-law was diagnosed nearly 2 yrs ago with stage 4 cancer-lungs, liver, everywhere. She is today completely cancer free and serves our Lord Jesus in full time ministry. Just 2 weeks ago, I was spared myself from any serious injury when 2200 hundred pounds fell on me. “SSAnon”, He IS the same yesterday, today, and forever. When asked if He was willing-He said “Yes, I am willing”. I love that you are already using this trial to make His Name known. Your life has purpose and you’re using that purpose right now. Trust in Him. I stand with you in all that you’re believing. God-we yield to You! We give Him praise, recognizing His great power and I pray that your emotions will follow your heart by remaining in the very center of His Will and Purpose for your life. To Him be the glory.

I’m hugging you right now from way up here in my perch in Alaska. Blessings, dear sister.

I really appreciate the mix of spiritual writings and funny day-to-day stuff (like rearranging a room). The humor ministers to me. I’d be curious to see the countries with consistent, but small numbers. There are a lot of solo siestas out there loving the Lord and sharing with their neighbors all across the globe! Our family of 6 is headed back to the states for 6 months (19 days to go). I’ll be at an LPM event. Can’t wait!
