4th of July

Finally! I’m not exaggerating when I say that this post has been five days in the making. We’ve been adding pictures to it slowly. Sorry it’s taken so long! Our family had a blast at the beach in Galveston. It was just the girls from Wednesday through Friday and then the boys joined us for the rest of the weekend. It was everything we hoped it would be. We relaxed, swam, built sand castles, played with hermit crabs, walked along the beach, shopped, laughed, ate Dad’s famous gumbo, watched fireworks from the top deck of the beach house, played games, and enjoyed each others’ company very much. It was a very happy 4th of July!

Our quiet time spot.

Our view from the beach house.

Girls lunch at Willie G’s.

My boys in the waves. We meant to take a lot more beach pictures but it never happened!

Annabeth’s new jammies. They say “Berry Berry Sleepy.”

Baby Girl was very taken with her Auntie.

Mom, Lis and I played a gamed called Whoonu while we were waiting for the boys to arrive. When Melissa excused herself to answer a phone call, Mom and I rigged it so that she would get these cards. We picked 4 things we thought she hated and she had to rate them in order of how much she liked them. We thought we were hilarious. Turns out the joke was on us because apparently my sister loves her some four square. Whoonu? But, having been the second born daughter, she does despise hand-me-downs.

Mom and Dad at the pool.

Jackson has been learning how to swim this summer.

We’ve finally found something that tires him out!

Apparently it tires Annabeth out, too.

Aunt Melissa got Jackson a treat from the ice cream truck and simultaneously became his best friend.

A visit to Galveston is not complete without a meal at Gaido’s. Mom and Dad have been going there since before they got married. We took the opportunity to celebrate Dad’s birthday, which is actually today! Happy birthday, Daddy!

Some fun in our backyard after we got home.

We all missed Colin so much! His presence was the only thing missing from a perfect weekend. But as you can see, he was having no shortage of fun on his getaway with some college buddies. You can probably tell by his fleece jacket that he was nowhere near Texas!ย

I love the pictures! Especially the one with Annabeth's big, bright eyes! What a beautiful girl! And just so you know pools are the greatest way to wear kids out. Unfortunately it's also a great way to wear parents out. My kids are pretty independent now, so I can usually wear them out without wearing myself out (I lay on a lounge chair unless it's really hot. 90 degrees is hot enough for me. Sometimes 80 degrees is too hot for me if there's no wind.) I would not play with hermit crabs though. They come close to me and I scream bloody murder. Ask my husband. He knows all too well. Not a big fan of marine life!

Thanks for sharing. We love Galveston, too. So happy to see the City coming back after Ike.

Are you sure Colin was having fun? Looks more like torture. There's just something about a fleece jacket and being in the water behind a boat that doesn't compute…although with our heat in Houston I might be willing to give it a try just to cool off…I'm just sayin'

Thanks for sharing your pictures and adventures. Since I love games, I decided to check out the Whoonu game when I went to the store this afternoon. I went to the toy section, but couldn't find it. Bummer, guess I'll have to check somewhere else later. Finished with my shopping, I headed to checkout when I spotted the CLEARANCE section. I just had to stop. Wouldn't you know it, there set a stack of Whoonu's, with a 50% off marked clearance price. Yippee, I got it for $7.18! I might have to go back later and buy some more to set aside for gifts. I love those little blessings that the Lord drops in your lap!

So glad you all had a ball over the holiday weekend. Loved the pictures.

We were surprised and saddened by the sudden loss of my mother-in-law July 4th. However, our greatest comfort was knowing she stepped from this life into the arms of Christ. Please pray for the family.

    Aw, how sweet !

So, is Galveston anywhere near back to "normal" after the big hurricane hit it? Seriously, since I now live way up in southern Wisconsin, I've really been wondering a lot about my favorite beach town …

I see that Gaido's seems to be doing just fine. =)

I'm glad Y'all had so much fun there !

    Happy Birthday, Mr. Keith ! ! !

    ——————————–
I hope Y'all do not mind, but we had a serious tragedy last month [June 2009]regarding a 3 year old precious girl who was found at the bottom of a neighbor's swimming pool, who passed into Jesus' arms this past Monday. I cannot honestly say that I knew little Patience, but once I saw her picture, I realized that I do recognize having seen her in church, before and/or after services. However, I do not have a clue as to how a family could deal with such a huge loss like this one. Only through God's Love and Grace, I imagine . . .

She looks as cute as can be, but is now in Jesus' arms …

I'm sure her family and neighbor, and close friends could use any prayers any Siestas [and/or Miestas] would offer upon their behalf. Here is her picture and memorial from the local newspaper:

    http://www.gazettextra.com/obits/2009/jul/08/patience-fisher/

Lord, I just offer the Fisher family up to You, O God, Lord of mercy and grace. Be with them now, as only You know how to bring comfort to them. In Jesus' name I pray these things, Amen
