One Reason Why

Happy Lord’s Day, You Delightful Siestas! The only reason I’m getting to be on here at this hour on a Sunday morning is because Curtis is preaching at the 6:30 PM “Ascend” service at our church this evening so, needless to say, I’m going then. I’ve had you on my mind, praying for you and cheering for you so much over the last week. At this point, do you realize we have about 3000 of us memorizing Scripture together? Unbelievable. This morning while I was working out in my garage, I had on one of my Nicole C. Mullen CD’s. (You know, she and I are really tight. I’m her personal trainer. Which, of course, is a lie and some of you are too new to the blog to recognize when I’m making something up. Have you seen that woman’s arms? That’s why I pump iron.) Anyway, I was getting my praise on to her song “Brainwash” and as I listened to the lyrics, I thought how my Scripture-memorizing Siestas would be pumped up in their commitment by it. Here are the words but if you love her kind of music like I do, google it and listen to it. Here, Darling Things, is one great reason why we memorize Scripture. In a few days I’m planning to do a little mini-tutorial but this is perfect until then. Sure love you!

Chorus: I need a brainwash from my head to my soul ~
I need a brainwash, bring it down to my toes ~
I need a brainwash in and out ’cause you know ~
I need a B-R-A-I-N double wash*

Overwhelmed by the stuff on TV ~
Overloaded from the pressure fallin’ on me ~
light head! Oxygen! I’ve gotta breath *
Email, Myspace, backin’ up all the time ~
Voicemail, press one if you’re on the line ~
Transformer, can you renew my mind?

Smack dab in the front of my mind ~
All that I’ve done wrong ~ Re-play and rewind ~
How can I erase it forever this time *
Smack dab in the pit of my soul ~
This guilty feeling’s diggin’ a hole ~
And my thoughts are spinnin’ out of control

The world is straight typical to rock the traditional ~
Kinda keep it real life livin’ mind simple though ~
My past is in remission ~ Thrivin’ on my conditions ~
I need a turn around ~ A fresh way to get down ~
Comin’ straight from Jersey roamin’ in the land of the dirty south, free ~
Escapin’ misery ~ With a Christ mentality ~ The only way to have it ~
Living word habits ~ Feels nice dippin’ me twice ~
Yo, ah I need a Brainwash… (Chorus)

Be not conformed to this world ~ But be transformed by the renewing of your mind

Hi, I’ll try not to leave to much of a cmment but I want to say that I first”met” you with Breaking Free and siesta, I was broke free from chains of unforgiveness that I carried for twenty-five years. I can’t even put words to the feelings I have for that bible study for the funny, serious, sincere women of God who lead me through it. Thank you, you have no idea.

To Lyn who posted a comment at 3:26 this afternoon, if you are here I just want you to know that I am praying for you!!! With all my heart. You hang in there girl. Get back on Beth’s main page and scroll down to “Anyone Game” posting. She will guide you through it. I tried to click on your name and get directly to you but I was unable to, so I pray that you know this is a place of comfort and encouragement and cover. You are not alone, sweet sister.

    Beth,

I recently saw the video of Nicole C. Mullen’s song about “touching the hem of His garment” and was moved to tears. Siestas, you have to see this one… So thanks for sending us the lyrics to this latest song.

That’s good! I love Nicole Mullen. Of course, you’re not her personal trainer. How could that be? I am! (lol!)

I’ve never heard that song but I have said on more than one occasion that I felt like my brain needed a good “pressure-washing” to get all those dark, icky spots off that were embedded in my brain.

    Yeah, it’s kinda like that.

    Love you siestas!

Beth – I love it that you explained why you were blogging during “church hours.” I’ve been known to avoid every appearance of emailing – especially my ministry team who for some reason I think might really notice and care – between the hours of 9:00-noon while staying home with a sick child on Sunday. Is that legalistic or just plain pitiful?! πŸ™‚

Love the brainwash image! My son and I had a lengthy discussion along those lines on our way home from church today. God is maturing him so much lately!

Beth – Couldn’t wait to comment on how awesome God is…no surprise to you, I know, but the reminder was priceless to me! I have been out of church for several months, giving the enemy way too much room to work in my life, when the challenge came to memorize the Word, the timing was of course God!!! This morning my family returned to church, and so God, I walked into small group and what scripture were we discussing…oh yeah siesta, the very passage I chose to memorize Phil. 3:7-11! I just couldn’t stop the tears or the praise! God you are awesome and thank you for using Beth in such a mighty way!

I'm having trouble memorizing my verse, and this morning I was reviewing math fact flash cards with my son, and it hit me that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. So, he and I are going to keep working on math flash cards and my Scripture Flash Card!
Also, if you get dibs on claiming to be Nicole's trainer, I get dibs on claiming to be her muse. Such as a life as mine – before Christ would raise up country music lyrics with lots of *&^%$. Life after Christ would definitely inspire some awesome Gospel from our BFF, Nicole!

Beth, The coolest thing happened at church this morning. A friend joining me for the 1st and 15th Team grabbed me and we repeated our verses to each other. I got tongue-tied when she asked me to quote my verse right in the throes of the chaos of dismissal of our new children’s worship(Club Rock). I had to take a breath and ask the Lord to bring it to mind. Oh, how he did. This is great. Thank you for the idea and inspiration.

My child (3) has been memorizing scripture and she is going around asking people what their verses are? It is so embarrassing because she is putting people on the spot and I am like Just tell her Jesus wept. Anyway, I just sing them to her for whatever every day life thing we are doing and I can’t believe how she is getting it. Long story short she is using her sword to get out of trouble. Anytime I say Morgan you are going to be in big trouble she is like Momma, children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. I not want to go to trouble. She even burst out into prayer and at the end tells me what God says…He usually tells her Mo (no), I not have to go to trouble when I get home. lol. I am now trying to teach her not just to know it but to do it. It cracks me up because I am like oh yay she just quoted a scripture…I need some work on my parenting skills!! LOL

Don’t know why I didn’t download it to my IPod right then, but I did after reading your post just now. I had gone to Women of Faith a couple of months ago here in Oklahoma where Nicole and her troupe did that song. LOOOVE IT!! That will be my new workout song!! πŸ™‚ I also have challenged many girlfriends and even ministers at church in the Scripture memory challenge you gave us. Many have accepted. We’ll all soon have a brainwash! Praise Him. Love you much

I can’t wait to read your tutorial.

One thing that has helped me memorize scripture is typing from memory at least once a day. I then compare this to the actual text. Errors are highlighted and they become the focal point of correction and memorization.
The process continues until the passage is in my head.

Whatever the method, the important thing is to hide God’s word in our hearts.

    Hugs,

I really enjoy listening to Nicole, she is beautiful. I have been going through soo much lately with my health and believing what God’s word says over my feelings and just finishing Get out of that pit, and today at church our pastor talked about what I have been reading and going through and talking about fear and how God says we are not to fear or be anxious about anything. And now Beth you talk about being brainwashed…oh how I need that. God is soo good and He just made me feel soo special because He really cares about my needs, and He wants me out of that pit. Thank you again Beth, I love you soo much and I thank God for you, your awesome!!!

I was so excited being able to read the blog today while coming home from Florida back to Atlanta (suburban, my man driving, 3 kids and 2 dogs in the back, and if you opened a door we’d pop out of there like a stuffed snake in a can) — I just got a new phone and oh, the technology! I can surf the internet on my phone now! It’s a change, and I don’t normally like change, but I’m trying it… πŸ™‚
Anyway, I typed a comment and dang near sprained my thumbnails typing on those teeny tiny keys! And then my comment didn’t even go through!!

I LOVE Nicole C. Mullen too — her song “When I Call On Jesus” is my life theme song. That song got me through some tears during the last 3 years! And also “On My Knees” — yeah baby! Hotline to Jesus.

I used to work out years ago… just been thinking about it the last few yrs. But apparently it’s NOT ‘the thought that counts’, judging by my backside. So this week starts Body For Life again. I like their workout routine.

I just want to say THANK YOU: I’m so happy to have you all here… this month is one year since I found this blog (had never even read a blog before) and you guys have sure filled a void in my heart where my sister used to be. And restored my faith that there’s still people out there with love in their hearts who are loyal and don’t judge or condemn. Praise You Jesus for all these siestas and our Siesta Mama!!!

I love you all, even though I don’t know you. You are my sisters.

Beth, I felt like I needed to jump on here tonight to let you know what is going on in our church tomorrow.

Tomorrow night, we begin your study of Esther!!

I cannot begin to put into words my excitement over this study. The Lord used this wonderful book of His word to transform my life three years ago when I taught to my SS class of high school girls. Now, I am looking for another transformation and believing God for a WORD from Him over the next 10 weeks through you.

You must know that out of a 1300 member congregation, everytime I hold a bible study,30-35 women show up (we just completed Stepping Up in the Spring). Tomorrow there are 62 women signed up to begin (Praise His Name!!) and the overflow of excitement tonight at church was SO encouraging. I cannot wait to see what God is going to do!!! I can see women getting so excited about studying God’s word and it’s contagious. I pray we are forever changed and His Word accomplishes ALL He sets out for it to.

Please be in prayer for our church family (Hickory, NC) and the women in this study. We love you and appreciate your obedience and allowing God to pour over you so we can bask in the overflow! We are all better because of your obedience!

    Thank you, Beth!!

    1) Nicole C. Mullen has ALWAYS been on the top of my list. I love her…and her arms. One year she was at Willowbrook Mall for a brown bag, and after I watched the concert, I vowed to lift weights the rest of that year. Um, didn’t quite happen. But oh, to dream.

    2) Somehow I hadn’t heard of this song till you posted it. Needless to say, I love it and need me a good brainwashing.

    3) Still pondering our conversation tonight. Beth, you truly confirmed something so huge to me, because you aren’t the first person that has told me that, however, I have not a fat clue what to do with it. It is so very scary to think about! Know that the Lord spoke through you straight to my heart.

    Beth,

I am so excited about beginning 2009 with Scripture memorization!
God had already led me to make this a priority this year. He really meant business didn’t he?!!!! I am alss going to challnge my Tuesday night Bible study group to join us.

I also wanted to let you know that I am so thankful to have the blog as a means of communication and fellowship. After 30 years of marrige and raising 4 children, I now find myself single again, and with an empty nest. My now ex husband traded me in for a younger model and announced that his new love interst was pregnant with his child, on the same day we took our youngest (twins) to college. I thought I would die from lonliness and rejection. That was 3 and half years ago, and I didn’t die. I survived. Jesus has been with me all the way, every moment cheering me on and providing for my every need.

The blog is a huge encouragment to me. I had so dreaded New Year’s Eve, knowing I would b+e alone. Your post that night was wonderful and kept me company.

You have no idea how much your Bible studies have help me get through my pain and I look forward each day to your comments on the blog. You are truely a mentor to me and your comnents about family, dogs, poop, hair and all the girl talk, make me feel like we are BFF.

I am praying that I can attend Deeper Still in Greensboro this year.

Just wanted to tell you how thankful I am that you encouraged us to do this memorization in 2009- I posted on my blog that this was my New Year’s Resolution, and I have had 4 friends tell me that they want to do it too!!! How cool is that! We are fighting the enemy by the Sword of the Spirit this year- Isn’t it chilling to think that there will be more than 3000 of us memorizing Scripture and fighting Satan all over this world? Maybe this sleeping giant of the Church is waking up!

Thank you also for your sweet love for us Pastor’s Wives. Though it is hard, there is nothing I would trade for it. What a privilege to serve God’s people…and what a joy to study His Word with ladies in Bible study!

This is our 3rd year of doing a Ladies’ Bible study at our church (we started with 3 ladies…). We just finished Stepping Up and will be starting Wising Up next week and are so excited- So far we have over 35 ladies signed up (and my Mom and Grandma are coming to! It’s funny, isn’t it, how God leads so many of us to the same place at the same time. Yesterday morning, before I left for church I was having my quiet time. I am currently going through Romans. I was in chapter 6 where Paul talks about presenting all parts of your body as instruments of righteousness. So I started listing the parts of my body…right at the very top, the very first one, I listed my mind. In the end, it all starts with cleaning up the mind. It’s easier (in some respects) to act right than to think right. I asked Him for verses about my mind and how I could offer it as an instrument of righteouseness and here are the ones. I hope they’ll be useful for those of us who are looking for a brainwash:
    Romans 12:2
    Ephesians 4:21-23
    Phil 4:8
    2 Cor 10:5
    Romans 8:6

This morning I wrote “Brainwash!” in the margin of my journal.

    Love to you all
