This One’s For the Birds

Jackson and Bibby out in Bibby’s backyard throwing the red ball to Star who retrieves it and drops it at our feet no less than thirty times. Jackson keeps glancing at St. Francis statue in flower bed right beside us. Has no idea who the dude in the robe is. Bibby can tell his mental wheels are turning. He keeps throwing ball. Finally stops and stares at St. Francis, brow furrowed, giving the scene some deep thought. Obviously reflects back on the pictures in his Jesus Storybook Bible that Daddy reads him every night. Finally breaks silence:

“Bibby?”

“Yes, Baby?”

“Birds love Jesus.”

Killed me. I’m not letting anybody tell him that’s St. Francis out there. It’s Jesus from now on. After all, who else dresses like that? And, anyway, the birds love Him.

And speaking of birds, one of our most popular LPM staff members who is famous around here first of all for her prayer life but second of all for her hilarious, endearing malapropisms (as in, “I’m just saliva-tating for a work of the Spirit!”) and who will yet remain unnamed, was standing next to me yesterday after I dropped a beautiful glass statuette gift we’d just received on the marble floor in ten thousand pieces. Crestfallen, I said, “I’m such an idiot.” To which she said with all the love and emotion and encouragement in the world and in front of most of the staff, “You are most certainly not! You are blessed and highly feathered!”

Yes. Feathered.

Amanda posted this for me because I’m not good at downloading pictures but it’s from me. Your own Siesta Mama. Although Amanda is blessed and highly feathered, too.

Hilarious story about Jackson and St. Francis. And if you ask me, I think “Bird loving Jesus” is a more fitting name anyway.

Sorry about the statue- You can blame it on the pregnancy and loose joints…or that you are highly feathered!

Much love to you, Mama Siesta, and the LPM Staff at this most joyous time of the year!

Thanks for the great post Amanda!!
The pictures are so beautiful…..flowers blooming, green stuff all over…..in December!! Not for NO MI…..very white…white….white….only green you see are the “evergreens”.
Praise God for evergreens!! The snow is pretty…..kinda….but we are only on the 3rd of Dec and we have already had several inches…..depending on where you live in this area….you received
    6″ to 17″…..whooohooo……
We are supposed to get snow for the next 7 days. So I guess I will just sign on the blog and look at the luscious pictures of green.
Thanks again….blessings to all at LPM!

so sweet. i love what comes out of little one’s mouths, especially thoughts and ponderings on Jesus and God. we have so much to learn from them.

my daughter caroline has just said her first full sentence, so i’m eager to hear what her heart ponders. she prays for her little neighbor friend and his doggy as much as she prays for her grandparents. blesses my heart, and encourages me to be praying for our neighbors more.

Well first of all….trying not to be envious of the greenery in your back yard. We have snow. About 2 inches, so not a lot. But we also have ice. I wore the dumbest shoes today.

Secondly, we have a St. Francis/Jesus in our yard too. He has some feathered friends on him too. But everyone is covered in snow right now. Poor birds.

Thirdly. Yes, miss Beth, you are highly feathered. Feather you so much!

Some recent malypropisms from my neck of the woods:

From one of my awesome singing partners in our worship group, while rehearsing “What Child Is This”: “So bring Him incense, gold, and MIRTH”–that started the mirth, as the rest of us couldn’t stop ourselves from laughing!

From our awesome worship leader at church, leading the team in prayer just before worship: “Lord, please don’t let us be concerned about our HORSES” … we’re thinking he meant voices? Some of us were tempted to whinney softly (but reverently) while still in the prayer circle!

I’m about at the end of my rope and not sure what to do next. My daughter is addicted to percoset pain pills. she is 22, married, a mother, an employee. Her husband is supportive of her. She says she loves Jesus but hasn’t been showing it much. I thought we were working through this, she is saying all the right words, supposedly going to the doctor, and then today we find out that her “dealer” is still contacting her. She says she told him no. I have left her at the feet of Jesus on the altar so many times. It is hard to sit by and wait. I don’t know what to say or do to help, to make her do the right things. Do I sit back and wait for God to work in her? Do I drive her myself to the doctor? Do I lecture her – again? Do I tattle to her husband? AHHHHHHHH

Love it, and Him. Can you just humor me as I praise Him. My husband was in a very serious accident. He hauls fuel in a semi-truck everyday. Monday his truck rolled and caught on fire. The door was initially stuck shut, so he made his peace with Jesus and was ready to meet Him. But just as he was accepting that God was taking him home, to door opened. Praise you Jesus for bringing him home to me and his adoring 4 year old baby girl

I absolutely love how kids get Jesus. My own 10 year old was witnessing to another 10 year old who was a Wikken. This boy said he prayed to the trees. My precious boy replied, “Why don’t you pray to the One who created the trees?” Praise you Jesus!!

I’m always on the look-out for good Children’s Bibles or Bible story books. I have childhood memories of books filled with drab colors and dour faces. What a joy to see that the “Jesus Storybook Bible” is so beautifully illustrated and well written. Another one that I can recommend is “Bible Stories for Growing Kids” by Francine Rivers and Shannon Rivers Coibion. Francine Rivers’ Christian fiction has brought Bible characters to life for me and I was happy to discover that her children’s Bible story book does not dissapoint!

Too cute! My daughter called a Santa statue “Jesus” when she was very young. It was Christmastime, obviously, but we had never talked about Santa so she only knew Jesus went w/ Christmas. However she must’ve seen Santa linked to Christmas somewhere as well because while shopping in a store, she pointed to a statute of Santa and said, “Look mommy, Jesus!” 🙂

Just threw the work breaks on– ignored the radio deadlines– and treated myself to reading your blog. Didn’t know you had one. That’s strange enough as I thought I knew everything about y’all! The thought led me to wonder how is it that you fine Moore women do not know how much a part of our lives y’all are? That would be my life, and that of my sweet pregnant daughter Jessica Ann who lives far, far away in your fair city) and my dear daughter-in-law, Carey, who just blessed our family with grandchild Number One. Caps intended! Why, I never, but never, read your work, listen to your devotionals, or take a course of yours from afar without asking our precious Lord and Savior to bless your socks off of your feet for the time you spend in His word. Oh, I would love to open the heads of everyone I know and those I don’t and pour His healing, living Scripture in their noggins! But since that avenue appears to be closed, I will continue to feed myself and as many as I can reach through my work– and pray that He continues to expand your platform. He is worthy.

    Hugs,
    Shellie

    Dearest highly feathered Beth,

I am praying for the mom whose daughter is addicted. Believing that her daughter will return to the way she was raised. It’s not an easy path her daughter is on and praying she will get and accept the help she needs.

Also, praising God for the woman whose husband was in a burning truck! Thank you Lord that her husband called upon your name and that you mercifully sent him home to his family. Praying he will be changed (“I make all things new!”) and tell the world of his miracle!

Woo Hoo! God is sooooooo good! Thanking God for all these wonderful women who share their lives with you, Beth, and consequently with all of us.
