Clash of the Choirs

Siestas, did you watch “Clash of the Choirs” this week??? It was one of the best things I’ve watched on television in ages! I laughed and cried and clapped my hands and stood to my feet and cheered all by my sick little self in my den. I could have watched it every night for a month. Now, THAT’S GOOD PROGRAMMING. Way to go for a change, NBC!!!

I watched on Monday and then again tonight. I, too, laughed and cried and clapped at the TV. The Katrina evacuee from Houston was the first to make me cry. (Sorry Houston didn’t win) The show really drew you in. I love that you jumped right onto the blog at the end of the show to talk to us all about it!

And…. The blogs this week have been great! I happened upon the blog right about the beginning, as I was researching you and the whole LPL thing after purchasing a ticket for LPL Bossier City. My group has been doing your studies for 3 years–with 1 Jennifer Rothschild in there, too. I loved your Blog-a-versary post and video. I’ve been reading all along, but haven’t posted. So, I’m jumping in feet first now! Much love to all the Moore and Jones families–Ellen in Louisiana

    Hi Beth,

I couldn’t agree with you more!! It was a huge blessing to watch the faces and expressions of some of the singers who were obviously praising the King throughout the show. Loved that they sang so many songs about Him!!

I couldn’t decide if I should be crying or screaming with joy…but I mostly cried through every song. What did you think about some of the testimonies the singers gave while speaking with the host (or am I supposed to call her hostess?….that sounds like a twinkie!!…I can relate anything to food!)?

    Loved it!! Just LOVED IT!!!!

I missed it! Wonder if I can find it online? Anyway, your last post made me think of growing up in a large family. I wonder if it has made me demand more attention than most, because I didn’t get enough as a child? Or maybe I just love attention. Have you ever thought about this
(Kids in large families needing exorbitant amounts of attention)?
Hmm. I think I’m on to something. Another theory to place next to my “younger sister is always taller than older sister” theory.

I’m with you on this one Beth. I don’t know if it’s because my heart is so tender right now, or if the Holy Spirit was moving through the tv, but I went from laughing to crying, to cheering and back again! At one point last night during, “Jesus Take the Wheel” the hair was standing up on my arms and legs (note to self: shave legs soon!)

Oh my!! What a great show and even more wonderful demonstration of God’s love. Yup, NBC got it right on this one!!

NPR had quite a laugh about the new reality T.V., i.e. choirs competing…they blamed it on the writer’s strike. However, I think NPR stands for “nothin’ personally relevant.”

Wasn’t it wonderful! I was praising God for what He had done (and laughing and crying and hootin’ and hollerin’)right along with you. Kind of neat to think of all the Siestas together in spirit (maybe heaven’s family room?) watching t.v. together with our Abba.

    Feel better soon!

The outspoken way our God was praised and lifted high on National
    T.V. was such a gift wasn’t it!!

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!! I think I could go into withdrawals already!!!

Get WELL dear siesta!! Much love to you!!

Loved it! We watched it as a family for four nights!

Did NOT like the choice of clothing of some of the women dancing, or their presentation, but to be expected, and did NOT like the commercials about spirit woman or whatever…good grief! (I’ve seen his spirit! Do you see dead people? etc. etc.)

I’m so sorry to say I had never heard of it until tonight… when my mother was watching the final and giving me a blow by blow account over the phone! I heard a snippet of the Flight of the Bumblebee and I was impressed though! And I do heartily agree that this was good programming! Hooray!

Absolutely! Finally something we could watch with the family and not be annoyed! I hope the ratings were good so maybe they will do it again! Just think, not one person on the show was sleeping with anyone else, considering an abortion, disrespecting their mom (because there are no dads in TV land)drinking, cussing…. YAHOO NBC!
ps- don’t you love exclamation points!

I Loved the show too!!!! I finally get to find something I can watch with my teenagers that everyone enjoyed. We all picked a team and cheered for them as we are from Canada. I was happy for team Lachey as they had to work really hard to beat team LaBelle. Miss Labelle is one of my favourite singers so I was really hoping she would win. Well sorry to hear you have been sick ,hope you are feelin well soon.

    It's All About Him says:

BETH! I’m so glad you watched because I’ve been dying to tell someone who watched it that the coolest thing happened! As I was sitting there addressing the Christmas card to our Missions Pastor, my husband exclaimed that our Missions Pastor’s son was on the show! I looked up and it was the Blake Shelton one out there in Oklahoma and it was the first guy that Blake Shelton interviewed. It was a long conversation and Blake said he was sorry that my pastor’s son wasn’t the right fit for the choir (although I have NO idea why not) but he sure did get a lot of good information out of him. And as he was leaving, Blake said, “how many alto’s?” And Joel replied “Two.” How cool is that? I enjoyed the show a lot too!

OK, now for yet ANOTHER God moment! He’s killing me lately! My father, who I have beat my head against a wall witnessing to, has an old high school friend who is a prominent businessman here in town. I have always heard he is a christian and had told my husband once that I was going to call him and ask him to talk with my dad about the Lord because clearly I’m not the one to bring the message. My dad and this man stay in touch but I’ve never met him…until last night. There we were at Toys R Us Christmas shopping when we ran into him and his daughter doing the same. When my dad was talking to his friend’s daughter away from earshot I had my moment. I asked him if I had heard correctly that he was a christian to which he enthusiastically said, “absolutely!” I asked him to please try to lead my father to the Lord as I have tried. He quickly said he would definitely try. And I believe that he will. PRAISE GOD. Oh how I love Him.
Oh how I do. And how I love you. I thanked Him just yesterday for what He has done through you and how He has used you in my life. I think my heart could beat right out of my chest sometimes at how much I love Him. OK, if I don’t talk to you again, Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! I love you dearly. Lisa

    Hi Beth,

I agree. I really enjoyed that program this week. My husband has been away on business, so I put the kids to bed, got me a bowl of delicious brownie supreme ice-cream, put my feet up and relaxed with the music. As someone who was raised in choirs, church and school, I commend those singers for their hard work and triumph over adversity. Not to mention how calm they seemed. I was always so nervious standing in front of audiences. Congratulations to Cincinnati. I was excited to see the money going to their Children’s Hospital. My second child was premature. What a blessing for them. And as an Ohioan, born and bred, good work Ohio!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I only got to see some of it during commercials of that other new show Duel. The hubby had already started watching it before I remembered it was on…and although we have a DVR we decided a few months ago that we already DVR TOO MANY shows….so…until I am ready to give up another show…I can’t DVR anything else!!!

All that to say…I did like it very much!!! I too stood and clapped a time or two!

Beth I am right there with you! This was an absolutely awesome program. One that I could sit down with my nephew and watch and not worry about what he would be seeing. But, I almost messed up. I wasn’t at home last night when the show began, so I recorded it. The guide on TV said that it would only be on from 8-9. Well I was watching it from 9-10, when the recording cut off and I realized that I was going to miss who won! Well, it was 9:55 so I quickly turned it to NBC just in time to see Team Lachey win. Whew! That was too close for comfort.

I hope you are feeling better today. Being sick during the holidays can really be a bummer, especially when we’re celebrating the birth of our wonderful Savior. Take care of yourself. You are in my prayers.

My husband also watched each night of “Clash of the Choirs” and this morning I told him about your post. He said “that was exactly what he thought – it was good wholesome programming for the whole family and wished there would be more like it!” He said I should be sure to watch the last night on the DVR. He didn’t tell me which Choir won.

(PS: This is my first time commenting on a post, but I want you to know that I am a regular reader and have probably read every post. I’m thinkin’ that for every Siesta that comments, there’s probably three or four like me who don’t comment but are blessed by what we read. I will sometimes share a post with different women I know who are experiencing whatever subject a particular post is about. Thanks Amanda, Melissa, and Beth for sharing your thoughts. It’s always a blast to log on and read. Blessings on your Christmas gatherings and may the Lord bless you and keep you in 2008.)

Yes I loved Clash of the Choirs! Wish they would do more. I sit here this morning reading your blog and find myself laughing. I am giving in and have to go to the doctor today…I think it is going to be strep throat. I just flew back home from Georgia feeling terrible and felt so sorry for anyone near me!
In Georgia all of our family were able to be together at our cabin. We celebrated Thanksgiving, our granddaughters 2nd birthday and Christmas…we call it “CHRISTGIVING”. God is so good!
    Hope you get feeling better!

Yes ma’am. Jordyn, my 10 yr. old daughter, really enjoyed it. It’s nice to be able to allow them to watch prime time TV.
I hope you are feeling better. I too have been ill this week with strep throat, and I am praying no one else in the house gets it for Christmas. Hear is a little tip that may help you with your cough.. Vic’s vapor rub on the bottom of your feet with socks on..I know it sounds crazy, but it works. At least it did for my nephew. It may be worth a try. Tina B.
