When I was a young Christian, I became obsessed with asking God to define His love for me. Of course I was expecting butterflies and rainbows. Instead, God sent me people who were very difficult to love. I realized very quickly how inadequate my human love is. It was as if God was saying, “You asked me to show you My love . . . then love this. That which you cannot stand, I adore!” It is only when I have even lifted a corner of the depth of His love for humanity that I sense and feel the rumble of His heart. But ohhh what a delight when we can feel that quaking in our own hearts as we feel the graft He has placed within us.
