Good afternoon, ladies! While I’ve been preparing for tomorrow night’s Bible study, I’ve had my diligent staff watching weather alerts like hawks and checking with HFBC where we have the privilege to meet and with our work-crew. Our Tuesday nights require lots of employees, policemen, volunteers, etc. Due to the persistent Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow evening, we are so sad to announce that we’re going to need to go ahead and cancel. Too many things are up in the air (well, literally) and tomorrow is too late to get the word out to the number of women who often come. We don’t want you putting yourselves at risk on frozen overpasses or arriving to an empty parking lot. That’s not the way you want to find a parking place on Tuesday nights. Smile.
The chance of precipitation is so high tomorrow that icy driving conditions are virtually guaranteed. That’s too big a risk for us to take with your well-being. I was looking so forward to studying what I felt like God was setting aside for us in Session Two of Breath but He knew in advance that we’d have to cancel and He knows why next week is best. We will trust Him with that.
This is such a hard thing for our northern sisters to fathom because you have to operate in this kind of weather all winter long but we’re just not trained for it. Okay, we’re disastrous at it, if you must know. It shuts our entire city down. If we spill a cup of Sonic ice on the road, we end up in a ditch. We know how to sweat around here. Not slip, skate, and slide. Part of me thinks cancelling is so silly. We sure weren’t looking for a holiday from Bible study. We just got started back! But the bigger part of me knows that this is the better part of wisdom.
Serving is a trust. We want to be trustworthy with you. That is a no-brainer. That I know for sure.
If you would help us spread the word to anyone that attends, we would be so grateful.
We will miss studying together so much, but, God-willing, will see you girls next Tuesday, February 4th!
Tons of love to you and a little bit of a sad face,
Beth
Better to be safe. Here in MN schools were closed today and will be again tomorrow. -40+ windchill. Tonights Bible study also postponed. God does know about everything. Stay home and stay safe and warm.
So much love right back to you! What joy this Bible study is, and how personally our Father speaks to each of us there! My soul is stronger for it, my heart reaches for Him and finds a measure of healing, and my will forms around His purpose.
And Melissa . . . Thank you. I did not want that to end! May endless treasures of His grace flow into your heart in a steady stream.
Dude-I am SO sad. Last week is still swirling around my head because it was absolutely incredible-complete with a total miracle Jesus performed so sweetly for me.
I was so stoked about tomorrow!
But I’m glad I don’t have to brave the weather because I take the Metro from Northside to get there and that would be a mighty cold 1.5 hours of bus transfers. Yuck!
Still pondering: When something is missing that means something even bigger is coming.
I just got chills thinking about that. again:)
I know it’s hard to miss Bible study together, but those of us who are used to the ice and snow are even more glad you are being cautious. Bundle up and stay warm!
Pat
“If we spill a cup of ice from sonic on the road, we end up in the ditch.” You are so hilarious. A truly inspired Bible teacher too, and so, so hilarious.
I’m a born & raised Georgia peach- now living in the “polar region” of Chicago! I just have to say, if it wasn’t for the amazing people who get up and drive those huge snow plows and throw out salt daily, these northerners folks wouldn’t know how to drive either! The plows & salt are the reason anybody gets anywhere safely & they deserve a HUGE shout out! (Except, i wouldn’t mind if they skipped a day every now & then & we could enjoy a good ‘ol snow day!!) thankful y’all are being safe!!!
Sorry you are having to cancel your study. Thanks for ordering 65 degrees and sunny for us from the Midwest who visited last weekend. We had a wonderful weekend in Houston and now have below zero temps with snow blowing all over the place in Toledo, OH.
LOL — I, too, chuckled at the ice cubes on the road image … especially while sitting here in the frozen tundra of MN, grateful for fairly dry & clear roads today after yesterday’s ground blizzards galore.
See you in April~
If Alaska could send you all the studs (for your tires) and chains to help you get to Bible study we’d happily do so since we’re basking in the weirdest, warmest 40 degree weather. I grilled outside yesterday for crying out loud! So sorry, Houston Girls. I’ll be praying that everyone gets the message before venturing out tomorrow night ~
We too have a Tuesday Night Bible study and we always do a Beth Moore series and learn so very much. It usually runs from September to January but this year probably March! In December we had to cancel 3 Tuesdays for Christmas program, Christmas Eve,and New Year’s Eve. In January we met once because every Tuesday was snow, ice, or frigid temperatures. Since I’m the leader, I check the forecasts right up to the night before. Last night they said tonight was only supposed to be cold so I sent out an e mail reaffirming that we were having the class. But NOW they are calling for snow….so done with winter!
I read your blogs all the way from Ontario, Canada, where I sit looking out my window to snow that is almost thigh high! LOL…..OH how I wish I could be there with you doing your Bible studies, live and in your presence, and only having to worry about slipping on Sonic ice!!! LOL that’s awesome! 🙂 Enjoy!!! Warm hugs all the way from Canada.
We will pray for the safety of everyone in your area. So sorry you have to cancel tonight’s study. Drive carefully!
Love and prayers,
The Motor home Marions
If it makes you feel better, When it is 90 degrees. I don’t want to come out of the house. It is too hot. I don’t know how to sweat. Us northern siestas are praying for your safety. Don’t break too hard on ice you will spin like a top.
Love and Prayers,
Stacie from Livonia , Mi
Patti, Clemmons,NC
Wish I was there. We had to cancel our Tuesday night group here, also. Xxoo
Dear Beth,
I live in MN and cannot attend the bible study as I would dearly love to do. Heck if I could afford it, I’d fly in every week. Grin. I love your big protective heart toward those you minister to and how you guard their safety on a day like today. On Jan. 30 I was in an accident involving 7 other cars. Someone hit me from behind and I lost control of my car and slammed head on into a cement wall, then flew back into 4 lanes of oncoming traffic. I was in a lot of pain the next day, bur after that just fine. Only God! Praise His holy and wonderful name!!
I menat Dec 30, sorry
Thank you for being wise and staying safe! I cannot imagine what your weather would do to Los Angeles, CA.
In fact, I would love some rain to come in from somewhere. We will trade weather. We are in the midst of extreme high fire weather right now. 🙁
God bless you all as you study God’s word each day!
You are still such a hoot, Beth Moore!! A beautiful and godly “hoot”, but a hoot none the less! I mean that in a good way as in: hoot (huːt)—- an amusing person or thing;i.e. “the weekend was a hoot.”
Stay warm and say!
Blessings and joy
One thing I can say living in the north all my life is this.. you get accustomed to the phrase “weather permitting” you are forced to say it all winter long BUT that said, in a life time of winters I have only seen one Christmas Eve service cancelled and it is a rarity to have many Sun morning church services cancelled although we have had two Sundays in Jan already with zip!
Sometimes God allows the quietness to shout to us the loudest!! I sometimes hear Him loud and clear when plans are changed and I have to stay at home and have a time of quiet!!
Enjoy the quite eve and listen for His voice!!!
Love from the frozen North Country of the Dakotas!!
Betty
I can so relate! I’ve never “recovered” from being born in Louisiana, raised there and in Arkansas, and having my first teaching job in Texas! My first year, school was closed due to a skiff of snow that melted by 9 a.m. I’ve lived in Idaho for over 35 years (married a NW guy), and I still don’t drive on icy roads! The Lord has a blessing for you next week, and as you said, He knew all along. Nothing surprises Him! 🙂
I keep thinking what a difference a week makes, and what if our SSMT Celebration had been this past weekend. We also shut down for a couple of inches of snow. We are experiencing a major snow storm tonight. Ten to twelve + inches possible tonight. We had a snow last week, and our David Bible Study will be canceled for the second week. I am hoping to build a snowman tomorrow.
We are snowed/iced in this morning in Tennessee’s oldest town. All agree that we haven’t had such a cold winter in years. Snow I can handle (barely) but not below-zero wind chills. My street was treated w/salt yesterday and then more snow fell. Bad case of cabin fever!
Dear Beth, I hope all have been able to stay safe with the wintery weather. I hope that there is enough snow for you to be able to get out and play with those beautiful grandchildren in it for awhile!
Snuggled at home here in Lynchburg, VA and reading Sacred Secrets. I was actually at the Greensboro conference where this study was inspired by, so when our church, Thomas Road Baptist Church, played the video at Bible study, I didn’t at first realize it until I saw the white outfit (the one mentioned in the preface of the book and the one still in my iPhone from me snapping away as you passed my friends and I before you got on stage.). You looked beautiful and modest and I’m loving hearing your jokes a second time around! I am always blessed by your studies! Is. 45:3, God calls us by our name not our shame!!
Well I just started Living Beyond Yourself. I am so excited and can’t wait to get into it. Watched the intro video and was blessed with knowledge and laughter.
No school here in Crestview, Florida for three days because of ICE and weather in the teens! I have read my the Bible all the way through in a year since the early 80’s. It is a wonderful way to start your day every day! I have to write on every page or I don’t catch any of it. So I usually get a Bible (from Walmart less than $15) and start with a new one on January 1. Always remember Jesus Loves You

I am doing two bible studies this spring: Kelly Mintner’s Ruth on my own and am co-teaching Ann Voskamp’s “1000 Gifts” with our Panhandle Women’s Ministry Group on Tuesday nights with about 20 ladies. Also have committed to reading the bible cover-to-cover again this year, using the You-Version Bible app for that, works great!
I hope you can all take a moment and pray for your GA Sisetas as this past week was a bit of a nightmare for some. I would have never imagined that when I left for work tues am after being sick I would not be able to make it home that night and would be staying at my sister in laws after a 12 hr commute. I was one of the blessed one and still Thank God as I am 31 weeks preg. It is still a bit crazy here and we can use your prayers.
Thanks and Love to you all!!
I saw the weather reports on the weather channel one day last week and thought, “Oh, my, are they going to have to cancel the Bible study down there in Houston?” It turned out to be true…I am praying for you all during this series:) Love you Siesta Mama Beth and LPM:)
Sorry for all the discomfort and weather and “rig a ma roll” you all have had. Yet so exciting what the LORD will do with the 7 weeks of Tuesday eves of BIBLE STUDY since HIS WORD IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE and we are BELIEVING HIM and we have a teacher who is so in love with JESUS that she causes all of us to want to love and know Him more and she leans with great dependence and humility to hear His direction and obey HIS WILL!!!!!!!!! O what the LORD does with those who are wholly and whole-heart-edly (is that a word?) devoted to the HIM! Isaiah 26:8 …for HIS GLORY and RENOWN to be the desire of our hearts!
I am planning on flying into Houston from Florida to be there two Tuesday eves in a row (have business and extended family in Dallas between) starting on the 18th. I am so excited and thought “well…I am going to hear a different session than originally planned and O how GOD’s SOVEREIGNTY is so perfect!” I am hyped up for HIS WORD to me. Can hardly wait!
Thank you for the opportunity!
In Christ,
Deb
Greetings from Canada! Better to cancel and be safe. The first snowfall here every winter, people act like they have never seen the stuff before and forget how to drive in it. And we cancel things here too if we get too much snow at one time, i.e. 6 inches or more. When it comes all at once and with blowing winds and drifting, we can’t handle it either and the plows can’t keep up. Better to stay home and be safe. We make plans, weather permitting and Lord willing. And this winter, the snow just doesn’t quit. But better snow than ice and freezing rain.
I am an activity director at an assisted living facility. We are studying your Revelation Study. I am ficinated by the emerald rainbow around the throne. Today a metorologist came to speak to our group. He answered a question about rainbows. He told that the suns light is made up different colors but we just see light unless you have the water to break it down as a prism. I always wondered why God’s thrones was not surounded with all the colors of the rainbow that we know and then it hit me. God’s light is pure unlike sunlight that has all types of light in it. Thought you might like this.
I am in the midst of “Sacred Secrets” and I need some help. I feel my deepest most horible and intimate secret is holding me back from an unleashed relationship with my almighty God. I also feel that because of this, the prayers I pray for my children are hindered and therefore not brought to fruition. I so desperately want an awesome faithful prayerful relationship with God. Do I tell my deepest darkest secret to a fellow christian in hopes of breaking free into a stronger, deeper relationship with God….or do I stay in secret with God and pray more frequently and more deeply until he frees me of the shame and guilt? I need prayer and advice. Please help.
Hi Friend, thank you for sharing your heart. I am no counselor, but I think confessing your sin to another believer (maybe a women’s minister, a counselor, or someone you trust) can bring healing and freedom, and it is certainly biblical. So if you feel like that is holding you back, then by all means, Sister. May God give you much clarity and freedom as you follow His lead!
Hi! This is great! It is the first I Phone Dump I have experienced. Is that the right name? how neat! Thank you for sharing with you. God continue to bless you richly!
Dear Beth miss your fun observations
of us girls growing in God.
Be blessed ~
