1) They are questions that have short answers (In other words, this is not the time for an explanation of TULIP).
2) They’re not heavy questions. (Remember, this is mostly just for fun. That doesn’t mean you can’t ask anything spiritual. It just means that we’re not going to handle heavy topics like, for instance, my abuse background. That’s for another time.)
3) I actually know the answer. (If I don’t, I’ll try to do you the favor of not acting like I do. Grin.)

What are your favorite places to shop for anything? 🙂
When I can, I love to land a DEAL. I love feeling like I got away with something. I like to go into discount places like Ross and TJ Max and even Burlington Coat Factory if I’m just messing around. Sometimes I find things and other times I don’t. When I’m not just playing around and I’m serious about leaving the store with something I can speak in, I go to Steinmart or Zara. I also do typical mall department stores like Macy’s. Macy’s has great tops for speaking.

What’s your favorite pair of shoes?
Man, I wish I had them on! I’m writing you from work rather than home and I have no idea what brand they are. They are two toned brown suede heels with an open toe and a strap closer to the ankle. I stare at my feet when I wear them. The silly part is that I’ve had them for every bit of three years and I still feel that way. And, if you’re talking about in general, I LOVE BOOTS. Any kind.
What is your all time favorite movie, and why?
Remember the Titans! I think it’s my favorite because Keith and I both love it and so little of our entertainment tastes overlap. Grin. We’ve seen it a thousand times and say most of the lines with the characters.
The young man in that movie, is my dear friends nephew…he has since passed on…

What is your must have accessory for this fall?
Hmmmmm. I have a really cute black purse from last Fall that’s still great for this year but I haven’t had a really darling brown-toned one in a couple of years. I think that would be it. I’m not big on designer purses. I’m more into just a tad funky without looking like I’m trying to be all young.

This is sort of a two-in-one cheater question: What is a recent fiction book you’ve read that you’d recommend, and what is a recent non-fiction book you’ve read that you’d recommend? It’s interesting to hear about what authors love to read, and I love hearing about new books to check out! 🙂
It is so interesting that you’d ask this question because I almost posted last week how frustrated I am over this subject. Do you know that a lot of people in Christian servant/leadership can’t recommend a book or even mention having read one without suddenly becoming responsible for the complete, complex doctrines – not only of the writer himself/herself – but of all those who endorse him/her?? Or have ever appeared on a platform with him/her?? Or ever pastored him/her?? Or been on the same airplane with him/her?? It’s just nuts. I’m a rabid reader and read all sorts of different things and won’t even realize that someone/something is controversial until I mention it and wham. Someone objects. It’s sad, isn’t it? Can’t we sometimes have sense enough just to disregard parts of certain books that we don’t line up with while we still gain from the other sections? Honestly, who on earth do we line up with 100% of the time? If that’s all we read, we’re going to have a pretty short list. (Can you tell this hit a nerve? You saved me having to write a whole post about it though.) You guys aren’t the people I’m frustrated with, of course. The only reason I was going to write a post on it was to share my frustrations (i.e. whine) in a safe environment. So, now that you’re sorry you asked (laughing – I’m actually so glad you asked), I’ll answer with a few. Fiction: I LOVE ANYTHING ROBERT WHITLOW. Jan Karon. Francine Rivers. Plenty of others. Among non-Christian fiction selections, I couldn’t put down “The Help” and felt like it was an important read. The non-fiction book I’m most excited to get in the near future is Kelly Minter’s new Bible study on Nehemiah. It doesn’t come out until after the new year. I loved this question, Sister! Loved when years ago people inputted their favorite reads, it lead me to “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers. I loved it and was so glad for the recommendation. Thanks for answering this question.

I am currently taking your ‘Beloved Disciple’ class with a group at church. You talked about taking the dogs out in a field to chase rabbits as yours and Keith’s favorite past time. What do you do for fun now? Still chasing rabbits?
You know, we lost those two buddies three years ago within 21 days of one another. That was Beanie and Sunny. Oh, man. I could still cry over both of them. We still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to walk our dogs these days (Geli and Star) but the spot where all the rabbits used to be is covered in an apartment complex now. Frown. Still, I would say walking dogs and hiking is huge on our hobby list. But now we have Annabeth and Jackson – actual humans – and I’d say they just about make us happier than anything on this natural planet.
What’s your favorite vacation?
The Teton Forest in Wyoming! Hands down! No contest! Hiking around Jenny Lake. Eating at Signal Mountain Lodge on the porch overlooking Jackson Lake. I love the Tetons especially this time of year. Spectacular in the Fall.

How do you encourage others to get past old church hurts without taking sides, causing uncomfort or bringing up the past to make the hurt worse?
I’ve come back to this one because I just don’t have an easy answer. It’s a very real issue. But, I think getting over past hurts – church or otherwise – basically takes a lot of prayer, time, willing dialogue, and the love of Christ invading the human heart. The thing that most effectively helps me get over the offenses of others time and time again is the fresh realization that nobody has been more foolish than me. And that’s not false humility. Unfortunately, it’s just the truth. I’m so sorry for your hurt, my beloved sister. I’d give you a hug right now if I could.

Can I just say that from experience sometimes the “willing dialogue” has to be pouring our hearts out like a pitcher to the only One who is willing to dialogue about it. I have always been thankful for that advice you taught during one of your Bible studies. I can’t remember which one it was specifically – sorry. 🙂
Where do you get your haircut in Houston? Dying for a new place to try…
I go to a precious young woman named Angie who rents a small space in a larger building of independent salons. I am afraid she’d faint if I put her information on here because she books through her cell phone. I love her heart as much as her scissors. She is dear to me. She also lets me work my head off on my laptop in her chair. I never know what she’s done with my hair until I look up at the end. I’m smiling at the thought. The last sentence of the James Bible study was written in that chair.
What is your favorite thing to have done to your nails and how long does it last?
I don’t really have a favorite thing to get done with my nails but I have a regular thing that I get done with my nails. (In other words, I don’t greatly enjoy it but I do it.) My mentor, Marge Caldwell, taught all of us young speakers to either do our nails or get our nails done and to keep our hands well manicured and, to this day, I comply. She reasoned that we teach almost as much with our hands as our mouths.
I also realize what a workaholic I am every time I get my nails done because it’s like torture not to be able to check my phone or bang around on my laptop. I do solar nails with a French manicure. I learned from the early Bible study tapings how dating nail colors can be. I haven’t worn a color for years but I love colors on others.
That was great advice. I always find myself looking at your nails on the DVDs. I’m easily distracted and it makes me think about all the maintenance I need to do, but don’t have time for. Like fingernails, a pedicure (my feet are ga-ross), oh and shaving my legs would be a nice touch, too. I’m sure my husband would agree 😉

Where would I find the best Tex-Mex food in Houston? And what should I order tonight when I go there?
Pappasito’s is a slam dunk and there are lots of locations. DEFINITELY get the chicken fajitas. They come with a side of garlic butter that is so good, you could drink it. (But don’t. Grin.) Also, their chips are paper thin. And to me, the true test: homemade, rolled out flour tortillas. Great salsa.
My husband LOVES that butter sauce stuff… haha he always gets the fajitas when we go.
I heart Pappasito’s! We used to love it when we were in TX. We have one here in GA that’s just a bit of a drive from where we live, but boy is it worth it. 🙂
I have to agree with you Beth! It’s the first place we stop every time we come into Houston! The chips and salsa are so yummy!

My grandmother’s cornbread dressing that then became my mother’s cornbread dressing that then became my (and my siblings’) cornbread dressing. It’s something I sort of make by feel but if you’ll remind me before the holidays, I may do a video tutorial. That would be kind of fun, wouldn’t it?

Yes, Yes, Yes!! I always get my sister in law to make the dressing or go buy it from the local S & S Restaurant. I’m scared I will mess up the dressing and it would be really hard to have Thanksgiving without dressing!

I wish I was better at brands! I can’t remember the name of the shampoo and conditioner that my stylist sells me for my naturally bushy hair. But here are two things I use that are staples among my hair habits: Amplify Root Lifter for the top half. (Big Sexy Hair also makes a great root lifter and I use it, too, but am too embarrassed to say I do.) Moroccan Oil for the bottom half.

Grande Nonfat Dry Cappuccino! AND, if it’s later in the day and I wish I had something a little sweet, I might ask for the same drink with one shot of mocha in it or a latte with one pump of Pumpkin Spice. I don’t like much sweetener in my coffee so it’s always one pump at the most.
If you could choose one thing to get ready in the morning before leaving the house what would it be??

If I could only do one thing, I think I’d put on mascara. I used a L’Oreal brand for years and loved it but they discontinued it. After much experimentation, I now use a Estee Lauder brand that I believe has the word “sumptuous” in it. Laughing. I’m going to start paying more attention.

Chocolate covered almonds! But, mind you, I don’t give in very often. Even better would be chocolate covered macadamia nuts! I do love a nut…dipped in chocolate.

We only get one shot at it. Once they’re grown, they’re grown. Give up on doing it perfectly but do it with a lot of heart and a lot of laughter and a WHOLE LOT OF JESUS. And rock them all you can.

i have a 2 yr old daughter and another girl on the way, coming in february. i learned pretty quickly that perfection isn’t possible, which is a huge relief. we do lots of laughing and we do lots of Jesus. i need to work on the rocking. i know i’ll miss it when they’re too big 🙁 it just goes by too quickly! but then that’s why God invented grandchildren, right? (that’s what my parents tell me, anyway)

Caviar! ICK. I also don’t really like duck or lamb. But, I had to really think about your question because, mostly, I have a strong affinity for foods of all sorts.

I love pale (frosty) pink but I also love coral. But I think I just hijacked the favorite color question and landed it into the topic of lipstick. I do dearly love lipsticks and glosses. Not that you asked. Grin.
When you Pick a floral bouquet for yourself or as a gift, what are your favorite flowers or colors of flowers?
I think I love lilies best of all. No, wait! Tulips! Louie and Shelley Giglio (Passion Conferences) have sent Keith and me tulips every Christmas for years and they thrive in a vase throughout the entire holiday. I am nuts over them. (The Giglio’s AND the tulips.)
if you put a penny or two in the bottom of the vase with the tulips, it will make them stand up longer 😀

Do you get recognized in public a lot? Does it get annoying? Are you mostly only recognized at church? in Houston? Everywhere? Nowhere?
Do you ever feel as if you don’t have enough hours in the day to pray about all that needs praying about, or you feel as if when you pray your prayers are totally inadequate? I know you said no spiritually heavy stuff so you dont have to elaborate, it would just be nice to know that I am not crazy for feeling this way at times.
