A Sunday Morning Mishap

Y’all are not going to believe the dumb thing I did yesterday. Curtis had the privilege of getting to preach the Sunday services at a local church that is currently in an interim period. (Hello, friends at Humble Area FBC!) Of course, we arrived early to get Curtis settled. While he did his thing, I took Jackson to the kids area (which was amazing) and let him play on their indoor playground until his class was ready to start. After I dropped him off in the “Happy Hippos” room (I kept saying “Hungry Hippos”) I made my way to the sanctuary to find my husband. He was doing something in the sound booth, so I walked to the front and looked to see if his stuff was sitting on a chair.

Indeed, I saw Curt’s blue Bible and his car keys sitting on a chair in the front row. There was no one else seated on the row at that time. So I sat down next to his stuff. Then I thought I would be a good wife and put his keys in my purse so he wouldn’t have to think about them. A couple minutes later a man came over and sat on the other side of Curt’s stuff. He looked at me curiously and then started messing with Curt’s stuff. So I said, “Oh, that’s my husband’s stuff.” Then he kindly told me that, no, that was his stuff! I was so horrified! Then I had to confess to him that I had even put his car keys in my purse! Oh, y’all, I was so embarrassed! He was super nice and laughed with me about it. (Hi, Mitch!) It’s just so nice to make a good first impression, isn’t it? Ha ha!

We loved getting to meet everyone at HAFBC. What a sweet congregation. I cannot say enough about how wonderful their kidzone is! Wow! We met some really neat people and Curt and I discussed on the way home that the number one benefit of being in ministry is simply getting to know people. Despite Jackson’s usual post-church restlessness, we enjoyed getting to have lunch with the Whitakers and hear about their family’s journey with the Lord. You just never know what God has done in another person’s life. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are such treasures and if we slow down long enough to hear one another’s stories, we will be so blessed and want to praise God for His works!

Well, it’s been a while since I updated you on Baby Girl. I am 22 weeks along now, which is just over half way there. Yesterday marked four months until my due date (Feb. 12). I am in that grace period between the first and third trimesters when I feel great and actually look pregnant, but not too pregnant. I’ve been seeing babies everywhere and I’m getting so excited to have this little one join us! She does have a name but (please don’t hate us) we are going to wait until she’s born to announce it. Or at least try. I just know I’m going to slip up!

Happy Columbus Day to all of you and, if you have the day off, I hope it’s a really good one! Blessings!
Love,
Amanda

I’m so glad you’re going to wait to announce her name. It’s so fun to have a surprise.

We’re due in six weeks and can’t decide on a name! So we definitely won’t be doing any big reveal until we are ready to leave the hospital. :_

Oh Amanda, you are so sweet and so cute. Haven’t we all done something that we thought was helping/serving and it seems to take a different turn. It was so cute to hear the cute humility in your response. Anyways I am so glad you and your family connected in a God connected way. Isn’t HE just the GREATEST. As a labor nurse I am really happy that things are going well for your pregnancy, ENJOY. I will continue to pray for you.

That is so funny. I have deli deluxe foot sandwiches myself. It is not enough to just put my foot in my mouth. lol Once I was teaching a class on the Names of God and I tried to say fill your hearts, well I said a word that rhymes, YES THAT ONE! I was horrified and nearly knocked my teeth out by slamming my hand over my mouth where that door is supposed to me. YIKES. I blame it on the first conference with my braces on. LOL!!
    Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a great weekend for you guys. Even with your little mishap! So glad to hear that you had time to sit and fellowship with other believers…I love that aspect of us being brothers and sisters in the Lord…we get to connect and share what the Lord is doing in our lives.
Can’t wait till Baby Girl is here! I hope that you slip up and let us know what her name is!!!

Oh good. I’m having a “Ridiculous Day” so far myself. Glad to know I have company (although you have a good excuse being in your second trimester). I’m not pregnant – just being my normal little self.

Hope everyone has a good day ~

That reminds me of a time me and my then hubby visited a new church and sat in a pew a guess one lady was really used to sitting. She came and sat down next to my hubby, during prayer and kindly put her hand on his knee, He thought at first maybe she was praying for him, then the preacher said amen and she kept her hand there, even moving up a little, FINALLY she looked up to see that it was NOT HER HUSBAND….. Man I thought we were all going to fall out from laughter

    Amanda,
Impossible to hate you! I understand your desire to keep the name under wraps…we did the same thing with our baby girl. It was fun to have that surprise!

You are just a doll, and your keys mishap sounds like something I would have done. Ha-ha!

What a joy and a blessing you are to all of those you serve!

A friend of mine came up behind who she thought was her husband bent over the water foutain at church and opened up his side pocket to drop his keys in for him. She walked off and a couple of minutes later a friend of theirs walked up to her and dropped the keys on the table and announced to everyone standing there, “These are NOT mine!” Loretta was HORRIFIED! She has never lived that down with either her husband or their friend. : )

    Amanda,

Wasn’t Jackson’s due date Feb. 12, too? My girl friends and I thought you might have him on Valentine’s Day, but it wasn’t to be; perhaps your baby girl will be. Can’t wait to hear what you name her. Are you going to work the name Wanda in there somehow?
It’s interesting how God works it for your babies to be born near each other in the same month. Both my kids due dates were Cinco de Mayo (May 5) and were both born on Mother’s Day three years apart. God is so amazing.

    Happy Birthday tomorrow.

So happy for you and Curtis and the new little girl on the way! Can’t wait to hear the name and way to go on waiting to announce the name! So many these days give everything away early so way to go, although I hear ya on the letting it slip part. I am sure you are ecstatic.
My brother and his wife are expecting on March 24, their first and they are waiting to find out until that day. I am dying to start buying blue or pink but I totally understand too. I did find an adorable sleeper that was white/khaki with a cute little bear on it, which read “Lit’l bear”. My husband and I are HUGE Chicago Bears/Cubs fans, so I have to encourage the youngster even from infancy!
God bless you and your family!

    Oh Amanda,
I can so relate! Many years ago, when my children were very young, my husband and I got a sitter and went to the movies. Scott stopped to get popcorn and I went to get us a seat.

When I sat down, there was a couple in front of me and I recognized the man as someone I had worked with for several years. I hadn’t seen him in awhile, so I leaned forward and whispered, “Donald.” He didn’t answer, so I said a little louder, “Donald”. He turned around and said, “Pardon me?” I slapped him (lightly) on the back of his head and said, “Donald, don’t do that to me!” Immediately, the lady looked at me and said, “His name isn’t Donald!”

OK, I’m turning red just telling that! Then, here comes Scott with the popcorn and he spotted the alias Donald and leaned forward to speak and I quickly stopped him, letting him know I had already hit the guy in the head and it wasn’t Donald!!!!

Oh, those embarassing moments! It wasn’t a week later that the real Donald actually came into the office I worked in at the time and I was afraid to speak to him. We all had a good laugh about it!!!

    Love ya,
    Dianne

I wanted to share that I’m taking the revised version of “A Woman’s Heart-God’s Dwelling place” Bible study and we saw cute pictures of Jackson when he was born. One Sunday, my Grandpa was asked to come forward and pray for part of the service. When he was finished he went and sat down… in the row in front of my Grandma, next to another woman… Grandma tapped him on the shoulder and when he turned around, she said “wrong wife”. He was so embarrassed. Thought you would enjoy the story.

I think it’s great you’re saving the name for the birth announcement. Gotta leave something as a surprise. I can’t believe you’re 22 weeks already! Isn’t it funny how everyone else’s pregnancys seeem to fly by?

I enjoyed a wonderful and rare day with my hubby. We took a walk with the dog at the lakefront, ate lunch out and shopped for a new bookshelf. Not too exciting, but just perfect for us.

    Amanda,
Thank you for being in the club of “We’re not telling the baby’s name until it gets here!” I am 33 weeks pregnant, and we do have a name for our little miracle boy, but we haven’t told anyone and don’t plan on it until he’s here. So nice to hear of someone else doing that! I’m loving your mom’s posts from New England! Well, this should make you feel better. One day, a couple years, ago I was leaving Lifeway. I walked up to “my” van, opened the driver side door, and noticed a hat on the dash that wasn’t mine. Still clueless. I started to sit in the driver seat when I heard a voice from the back seat. “UH ma’am”… Yes, I was getting into the wrong van!!!! The two teenage boys were just as stunned as I was. I said oh, I’m sorry, closed the door and located my van asap… Upon backing out. I noticed the mother and maybe grandmother giggling at me as I sped off… So you are so not alone. Tina B.

Too funny! I also wanted to say that you are so right–the best thing about ministry is meeting so many great people. As Methodists, we have moved about every 4 years. I haven’t had much to laugh about lately but oh that made me really laugh Amanda!! I bet you flushed a few pretty shades of pink!! Speaking of pink….can’t wait til your sweet bundle of pink arrives. Treasure every moment!!

Oh by the way “Happy Birthday To You”….loved the way Melissa has always looked up to you and that picture, talk about two gorgeous girls!!! Go crazy on the birthday shopping spree with your mom when she gets back. Give her a hug for me and have her give you one back from me for your birthday.
