“It is Finished” – A Message that Might Be Fitting for Holy Week

Blessed Holy Week, fellow followers of Christ Jesus. We want so much to serve you as well as we know how on this most sacred week of our annual Christian calendar. As we reflected on how best to do that, we thought about this message that I had the privilege to give at Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia. My good friend, Louie Giglio, had asked me to speak on John 19 which records the crucifixion of Christ. Some of you have services to attend at your churches on Friday where you will gather at the Cross through the pages of Scripture and remember once more. This message is here for anyone who may not have that opportunity, who’d like to grab her Bible, turn to the most pivotal moment in human history, and set her mind afresh on what Jesus Christ accomplished on that hill that dark afternoon.

I am almost certain that you will also have a written post for Good Friday. We at Living Proof Ministries love and appreciate you so much and pray that Christ will reveal Himself astonishingly to you throughout this weekend and particularly on Sunday as we all celebrate the most beautiful words possible: “He is risen!”

With tremendous affection,

Beth

Thank you for showing up in the world to bring messages from our Creator that reach into the core of my being and propel me to love Him even deeper and into His work. Beth,
Thank you for a very inspiring e-mail. I am thankful that we have a very special week to be able to take a pause and think how much he sacrificed for us. It is wonderful to know that he had the power to go through for us.
My daughter and I took a silent prayer together to think of him. He was dead to forgive our sins today. It is such a blessing to have the privilege of having His forgiveness every moment.

    Jesus Is Risen,

    Julie Talley says:

What a fun way to extend my own time in Gods word this morning. I grabbed a 2nd cup of coffee and my bible. After listening and studying with you I looked up several “hyssop” verses as well as definitions. The first definition simply said, fragrant plant. I meditated and praised the Lord just mulling over this in my mind. I thought of all the O.T. sacrifices/offerings and times where it says it was a “pleasing aroma to the Lord” (most made by fire, and we could think even deeper here about how Jesus after His sacrifice, did battle and defeated hell, eternal death, FIRE!; are following me?) and how this the greatest of all sacrifices (offering of His only Son) that finished and accomplished all, must have truely pleased the Father and been ” a sweet/ pleasing fragrant aroma. Even though painful it had to please Him that His Son obeyed. The hyssop was no happenstance. God in His sovereignty selected the hyssop as another way to show the bigness of it all.

    Carolyn says:

Beth, thank you so much! I just listened to this, and God used it to prepare my heart for Good Friday services tonight and Easter Sunday. I’d been praying He’d make this more than the familiar story and work in my heart, and this is how He chose to do it. I found myself standing at the kitchen counter alone, watching, grabbing the dishcloth to wipe my nose and eyes as I cried listening to the hyssop put to Jesus’ mouth.
You didn’t say this explicitly, but I think you alluded to it – that the hyssop given to Him with the sour wine was like our sins He was accepting – we gave Him the worst, and He gave us the best, Himself, the Passover Lamb. And then His work was done, “it is finished!” Hallelujah! I’ve never seen that. Thank you for being God’s instrument to awaken this heart today.
